Last week I pick up over $800 worth of stuff I ordered from the US, from the post office. It clearly had the value printed on the paperwork attached to the package yet I didn't get dinged for customs. I decided not to question it... because you pay customs on 1000 usd and over! Sorry to be asking this again, but what is the maximum value you can spend without being legally caught out at customs? Just to make sure it doesn't happend again.

I just hope if they do open them that they put things back in a better state than I received my dresses yesterday :( The package was only half the size it had originally been, when I had a proper look and the dresses are now hanging in a steamy bathroom. and you wonder why they wanted your passport!!! Are you picking on me again ;)

Over 50% of my S&S stuff has no invoice. One was for a GoPro camera - I effectively had no proof of purchase. I once questioned it with S&S and they said they don't remove the invoices. Yeah, right..... This is the first time it's happened to me. I've been lucky and always received parcels unopened. Mind it's a good job they didn't add up the prices on the actual dresses ;)

And to cap it all when I opened the parcel, there was no invoice inside. Good job I don't need to return them.

I just think it's more because the working Mums in Dubai probably wouldn't have / need help if they still lived in their home countries. Majority of the Mums you mention, I feel are those who would do it no matter where they lived as it is just a way of life for them.

I would suggest the younger the better. Perhaps if you take him when you see the dentist and he sees that nothing nasty is going to happen he will probably be ok. A lot also depends on the dentist. You definitely need one who is good with kids. I did this with my two back in the UK and they were and still are fine.

Thanks, would you mind sharing the agengies you use? Unfortunately the agency I use, only operates in the Jumeirah Village Triangle area at the moment, but if you do a search on here for maid agencies, you'll find loads, along with comments about them all.

It must be so much easier to travel with little ones now! When mine were younger I had bags full of books, toys, etc. How I would have loved to be carrying so much less.

Just been on the airport website and it recommends you check with your airline. All it does say for definite is that Emirates are not moving!

A number of agencies stipulate a minimum of 4 hours a day, so you'd be fine with this. I have mine for 4 hours one and and 2 another. edited by Geordie expat on 30/04/2014

Yes, but I did it through the V**, put my UK address in first and then my SnS as delivery. Mind it was a couple of weeks ago. Maybe they've sussed something, but I can't imagine them turning away business.

Yes as long as you have a UK billing address to match your card, you can then ask for a different shipping address.

Funnily enough I tried to order from Debenhams for the first time the other day, and got the reply saying the order cancelled because of security errors...I then tried a UK registered card rather than UAE, but got the same thing...I was trying to use Shop and Ship, so maybe that is the issue...? Try doing it through a V**

My old collie dog once picked up DDs dummy from where she had left it on the floor, took it back to her and she immediately put it back in her mouth. I never batted an eyelid. As you say it helps their immunity. Helpful pouch He was. He also used to try and round both girls up if we went out anywhere and they ran off in opposite directions :)

It was the illegal working that made me take notice. I know the maid isn't going to be banned, but just imagine if someone else on here employs her without a reference, then lands a 50k fine. It does look as if they are clamping down as I have heard from a number of people that residents, especially in Emaar properties are being visited. Perhaps this is only the start.

Definitley haven't gained muscle ;) I'm blaming the visitors we've had recently as we've had to eat out a lot more than we ever would have done normally. Also because of this it's taken me longer to get back to exercising regularly. But hey I've got just over a week to get rid of it. I'm sure I'll manage.

no dinner and turn ac off at night...... i'm sorry to intrude but why turn the AC off what effect does it have?? Sauna .... sweat the weight off but you're only going to get rid of the water weight.. which will be gained back the moment you drink water or eat anything with water.. no? not only water weight - your body also uses energy to keep cool..... i see.. the reason i ask is because i saw on the doctors show that the sauna effect is a myth.. also best way to see if you have lost some fat is by seeing how your clothes fit and measurements.. i used to weigh myself A LOT.. now i know it's all a lie.. a lieeeeeee.. i still like saying i lost 23 kgs though :D.. more than telling people i lost so and so inches hehe.. Well done you :) I also do the clothes fitting thing every time I get dressed ;) Majority are feeling better now, but when I get on the scales it's the last 1.5 kg I keep seeing above my target weight :(

Hi I have had guests here recently and was having the same quandary. I found that the minimum cover charge in Atmosphere also applies to children and as other have said, you need to book early as the window tables get booked weeks in advance. Do afternoon tea instead and as long as you get there for half two, you should be guaranteed a window seat.

no dinner and turn ac off at night...... OK so I got in from physio, had a small dark chocolate bounty and only had the ac on for an hour when I went to bed and then it turned off. I've lost half a kg :)

Thanks I'll have a look at the website. All I have switched on is Contacts, Mail and WhatsApp, but nothing is happening with any of them. Tried a few times with WhatsApp and the messages just won't go through. I suppose I'll have to call Etisalat. When I have a spare couple of hours :(

My Wi Fi setting is turned on permanently so it will pick up on one when it can. Also the battery is draining much faster than it was. It reminds me of when I worked in the UK and my phone then was always searching for a signal, as it was c**p where we were.

I'm on an Etisalat contract and all of a sudden can't access anything apart from messages and phone calls. No internet, WhatsApp or anything unless I'm connected to Wi Fi. Never had this problem until Friday and yet they say it's all ok.

Sarahlou or any other SnS experts. Why would I get a request for my passport or EID copy as my parcel has been held in customs for duty and tax payment. It's only three dresses. Sorry I missed this. Agh you should of said I would of collected them in the UK and brought them back for you. Although saying that my suitcase out of Dubai was 22 and 31 coming in! The sales were on everywhere at home did you get us our pies? Hope so I'm starving :(
