No worries. I only decided at the weekend to buy them. Just wish I'd known about the customs duty and it may have been cheaper to buy them in two lots. Haven't heard how much it will be yet.

surely placing a ban should be something used to deal with [b'>serious criminal [/b'>negligence, not just because someone decides they want to change jobs before their contract was up, that seems very vengeful and petty. Is it legal to with hold a passport? I think you have grounds for instant dismissal, without a leaving bonus. Any sort of blackmail or deception on your part though is out of line. The lying on her part (family emergency) is really just her being uncomfortable at straight up quitting, she obviously feels she has the opportunity to get a better job, more money for less hours, that is only human. Why not just have a very frank conversation with her where you treat her as a human being? Explain how valuable she has been and your disappointment at being left significantly out of pocket (tell her exactly what it is costing you) and in the lurch and give her the option of going home or finishing her contract, maybe with a bonus to be given at the end as an incentive? working illegally ? Exactly. How would you feel kiwispiers if this maid wasn't banned and someone else, like you, employed her and then had the authorities on their doorstep with a 50k fine.

I've ordered a few things over the limit after getting caught for the duty the first time, i usually add a note to the order that it is a gift and to have the price removed. So far so good! Thanks for that advice. I'll certainly remember for next time :)

We went for afternoon tea the other week for our wedding anniversary. It was lovely. Only one thing though, the dress code!!! It certainly was not adhered to by some guests !!!

Had no problem with my UK credit card. I just asked if I could have the parcel delivered to a different address than the billing one and no issues. Mind I did go through my V** when I was ordering.

Sarahlou or any other SnS experts. Why would I get a request for my passport or EID copy as my parcel has been held in customs for duty and tax payment. It's only three dresses.

I would advise you to take her passport back from her (to prepare her cancellation documents etc) and then cancel her visa and use her April salary to pay for her ticket home, and then get her on the first flight out of here without any notice, like about 5 mins to change her clothes and throw her stuff in a case. BBB edited by CrashingWaves on 28/04/2014 Totally agree, because at the minute she knows she has you over a barrel as you need to find someone to replace her. Can you not take some leave while looking for a replacement?

You'll struggle to even find a 1-bed town house in JVT for the OPs budget. Will probably be luckier in the Circle.

We've got a 2-bed villa in JVT. With one AC on all day at 26 in the summer our bills are no more than 1500 - 1600, but that also includes watering a few plants most nights. Also with a one bed town house you won't have the heat coming through the glass that we have. <em>edited by Geordie expat on 28/04/2014</em>

I had the same problem! LL sent renewal notice that rent would increase according to calculator. Spoke to RERA, they informed my that LL has to state increase prior to 90 days from renewal date. RERA told me that calculator is amended every 4 months and will be due to change on 1st May, hence why my LL wouldn't give me exact rent increase amount. Unfortunately for him though, 90 days has lapsed so legally he cannot increase the rent. (according to RERA that is) I am hoping that we can get away with this too as our contract is due in less than a month and he's only just told us the amount now. We were told before the 90 days only that it would go up in line with RERA. <em>edited by Geordie expat on 28/04/2014</em>

We are located South of London. Royal Mail is our second option. Seems they are charging around 200 pounds for a years worth of redirecting outside UK and EU. At the end of the day, when balancing everything, its not that bad. Thanks ladies for your feedback. :) Shame, or I would have offered my daughter's services to help out. Don't forget if you shop and ship that they don't group parcels together and you'll be charged for every single one.

Hi Geordie expat! Thanks you for the feedback. Unfortunately we do not have any family in UK. All are scattered all around the world. We had a neighbor who was taking care of our mail and was sending over every couple of months. However he is moving house and we are left with finding a solution quickly. We will have to consider our options. ;) Silly question, but, where in the UK are you?

We use our shop and ship address occasionally to have mail sent to us, but mainly have a family member just check it and then scan and email what we need to see. My main concern was all the junk mail that we receive would have come through and there was no way I was going to pay for that ;)

Very insensitive. I think I would probably have planted him, boss or not. Unfortunately though, this is another one of those situations similar to the discussions on other threads, such as sending kids to boarding school and working vs SAHMs.

Try either of these. I'm sure if they don't have them in stock they'll be able to source one for you. Especially the first company. http://onestoppetshop.ae/dogs.html http://www.dubaipetfood.com/shop/dog-supplies-180s.html

They were wonderful with our 5, but for the life of me I can't remember who we used in the UK. All I know is that it was a husband and wife team based near Manchester Airport, who were also amazing. Especially since dates changed a number of times from the original.

I'm definitely not as bad as her, but would hate to think people were staring and thinking "what's she doing in a bikini at her age!!" I would look at you and think"Wow, what a confident woman... Good on her" Don't worry about what others think..... Thanks Lou101. May go and look for a suitable one this weekend for my hols :)

Once you've pushed them through, physically, so it recognises their chips, just leave them to get on with it, they'll soon learn. May be worth trying to keep the girl out of the way for a while though, so she doesn't frighten them coming back in.

That's what we had. Now all you have to do is make sure that when you set it up you push the two boys through a couple of times, so it recognises their chips and keep the girl out of the way till it's done. Mind it still won't stop her batting them on the way in ;)

If you want to stay near Mirdif, have you thought of trying Desert Palm Lime Spa. You also have access to the pool for the day. DH and I were there yesterday, for the day and it's like being out of Dubai for a few hours. Couldn't fault the staff at all, they were lovely.

I'm a member of Goodreads and yes it is just a site for reviews and recommendations. I have a Kindle and the app on my Note, so both DH and I can read whatever is going. Yes it's far too easy to click and buy on Amazon, especially since I don't even have to find the CC now, to pay for them :)

If you died at home and your dog was there what do you think would happen? To quote Stuart Lee, educated British stand up comedian, your dog would 'eat you'. Dogs are not part of the family, they are animals with animal instincts. As Stuart says, as far as your dog is concerned, you are meat, with a voice. Nothing makes me angrier than pet lovers. Sorry. So basically, according to her, we should be taking advises about the life of our beloved pet from a stand up comedian?? I hope she turns to someone else for major decisions of her life, like kids, education, marital issues etc. rather than turning to this idiot comedian...... Her whole post is just utter nonsense and the poster has no idea what she is talking about and missing in life by being a pet HATER! And what about dogs who have patiently stayed by the bodies of their owners, sometimes for days, waiting for someone to come along. In some cases the owners have even been saved this way.
