We just carry two passports (the new one and the cancelled one with the valid residence visa in it) until the visa expires and get the new visa out in the new passport. I think there is a way to get the visa transferred to the new passport but I don't know anything about it and I'm sure there are costs involved. There are costs involved, so much easier to carry two passports. DH has been doing this for a couple of years now.

Hi Ladies Can anyone suggest where i can buy a matress topper ? Thanks I bought mine from Home Centre in MOE around 600 They constantly have sale so you may get it cheaper So comfy you won't want to get out of bed I'm so slow today ;) I was just going to say we saw quite a few at Home Centre in Osais Centre on sale at the weekend. That's where we got ours from too :)

Geordie is exactly right. One of the risks of starting food early is allergies. Now I don't care particularly what you do to your child but ... Allergy Risk Tied to Early Solid Foods Exclusive Breastfeeding for Six Months Is Protective, Top Allergy Group Says July 28, 2006 -- New moms should breastfeed exclusively for six months to help protect their babies against developing food allergies later on, one of the nation's leading allergy and asthma groups says. Solid foods of all types should be avoided for the first six months, and certain items -- like cow's milk, eggs, fish, and nuts -- should not be introduced until even later, according to a consensus statement on infant feeding released this week by the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI). "It is important to understand that we are talking about exclusive breastfeeding, with no formula, soy or anything else," researcher Amal Assa'ad, MD, tells WebMD. "This appears to be important for protecting against allergies." The ACAAI committee came up with its recommendations afte Yes but I still disagree with this. If solids are what the baby wants and needs I would always go with what I felt was right.

Thanks, dolleymadison. As I said, there are many views on this and many research studies done in different ways on different populations. You won't find a definitive answer in the medical journals. Sorry - but that's the reality of research studies. They all have biases and limitations. I believe that parents need to make their own informed decision. My view is based on talking to my pediatrician, my own research and my friends' experiences. That was enough for me! Fine. You go right ahead and discount the experts based on your own biased beliefs. Don't understand what's your problem if she doesn't want follow what you have provided. My two both started at 5.5months. Didn't have any issues. No need to be rude,Dollymadison. Each to their own.....this forum is to share ADVICE.....and NOT about imposing your views... As most have indicated, each to their own, each child is different...different things work for all.....as for researches....always take them with a pinch of salt, as after few months there would be a NEW Research which contradicts the existing one! Exactly, research changes on a regular basis. I would love to know how many of these researchers actually try living with a hungry, crying baby long term. totally agree.. our grandparents survived.. our parents survived.. and we survived.. and back then nothing was safe.. seriously get a grip of yourself.. And I'm probably going to be shot for this, but I don't feel that there were ever the same amount of allergies and illnesses then as now.

Feeding a baby solid food to "get it through the night" is purely for your own convenience and quite selfish, actually. Yes and I've just amended it to say she was ready as she was desperate to get a hold of and suck on whatever I was cooking in the way of veg. If I hadn't given her solids at this stage my GP was beginning to worry about her and it was due to an excellent HV that I / we made the decision. If you've ever had to deal with a permanently crying baby at 4 months old, who has absolutely nothing wrong you would realise that beginning solids early was a blessing in my case.

Both my DDs were BF until about 9 months old. One was having pureed veg as well as being BF from the age of 4 - 5 months, purely to get her and me through the day and night. It got to the point where she was up wanting to be fed every hour/hour and a half and no one was getting any sleep. And yes she was ready as she was more than happy to suck on whatever I was cooking in the way of veg. Youngest was fine and only BF until around 9 months old when she decided she wanted/needed more. Different things for different kids. Both have grown up healthy and happy with no allergies or problems. My attitude and that of my Health Visitor was, go with how you and the baby feel. If he can find something, there's nothing to stop him doing said job for a couple of years, as long as the financial supprt is there, assuming he can't support himself. It will give him the opportunity to have a go and there's nothing stopping him going back into education later. It may be that he decides to start something from the bottom up, or go the opposite way and decide he wants to study something completely different and gain a career that way. Let him make his own mind up.

You have to go direct to reservations and see what their policy is, it differs between airlines. Also computer systems will not allow two seats in the same name. Some airlines are requesting obese passengers to book two seats (preferably next to each other!) lol Can you not look at another flight or [b'>go to first?[/b'> Only in Dubai. I bet everyone on this forum is flying only business or first :) I wish :)

You can check electricity costs on any of the UK websites, depending on which area you're planning to move to. They will let you see the different plans available. Petrol costs will depend on the type of car you buy and mileage you drive, but unlike here you will find that prices vary from garage to garage. <em>edited by Geordie expat on 31/03/2014</em>

well here's an update.... Yesterday she ignored the stuff hanging waiting to be ironed but instead ironed the dirty clothes in the laundry basket in front of the washing machine.... (mainly running clothes....) Surprisingly the agency has been asked to replace her. That is the best thing I've heard for ages. :) Now I can tell Mr GE why I spend the night before ours comes tidying stuff away :)

It will probably come down to the lifestyle you want to live over there. That might take a few months to figure out, having being gone so long! Depends. Do you want the busy noisy life in a city, a slightly more laid back life in a small town or total peace and quiet in a lovely Yorshire village, with a local pub, butcher, post office etc, but still in reach of the city? I know what I'd go for :)

Yes, exactly Izzy. At some point the extensions need to be removed and re-positioned but, until that point, they just grow like normal hair and so will need to be trimmed - especially as the ends can become very dry. Mine are due out this month and new ones going in! Cannot wait :-) More blue or are we having a change of colour ;)

I just find it full of tourists most of the year round. If you're seriously looking to live around there use Rightmove.co.uk and search for York and start at 15 miles around. On second thoughts I've just done that - nightmare. Have a look at a map and pick a town or village to start with. Not sure about south and east of York, but north and west has some lovely countryside. Wetherby, Collingham to the west Sutton in the Forest north and beyond that you're heading towards the North York Moors :) <em>edited by Geordie expat on 30/03/2014</em>

Anybody ever lived in the City of York, thoughts? Thanks Beautiful city. Lived in North Yorkshire for 4 years and often visited York and Harrogate! I would say the same. Beautiful city for a visit, not sure I would like to live there though. There are some amazing and very lovely smaller places nearby

I've been there a couple of times. It is lovely. They make it clear you can stay and use the facilities of the spa (the best I've seen anywhere) for as long as you like before or after your treatment. Thank you for this. Hammam here we come :) :)

All I can help with is the Visa question. Once your husband has sponsored you, you will need a letter from him saying that he allows you to work. No problem then, and often easier to find a job when you are on your husbands sponsorship as it will save any future employeer the cost of your visa, or you could also temp.
