I read that the couples Hammam was totally separate. If it was me alone I don't have a problem baring my flesh, may put the others off though :) That apart do you reckon we could spend a few hours there just relaxing though?

OK I must be missing something here. I don't see any thumbs, red green or otherwise. I don't see my ranking either! I have cleared all cache, restarted the browser and logged in again. Still nothing! Seems I cannot use emoticons either as there are also gone! Me too. I think I'll go and sulk :(

There is a Holland and Barrett here , one in Dubai mall, one on beach road near Village mall one in festival city and I think there is one in Mirdiff as well but not 100% on that one. If they don't have something from the UK store that you need they will bring it over for you as long as it is legal here. I have used them here, but it's the price that's the problem :(

weekend eta in less 7 hours... Am off hiking in Oman; anyone else up to anything fun ;) Hoping that it doesn't rain but that some of the wadis are rivers....... :D My first brunch is over 8 months! It is a quiet one with friends parents as I cannot handle the crazy ones. Clean the car as I can barely see out of the windows. Hope the rain keeps off for you Another quiet one for us. Hi everyone, Thanks so much for your comments again - hearing from other people who've been in the same boat as me is really reassuring - it can be done! Citizenette - Are there a number of typing centres in Dubai that I can go to? Thanks so much for your comments. I am currently looking for work - my only problem is that a lot of the jobs I've seen (I'm a marketing manager) are for an immediate start, when realistically I won't be able to fly to Dubai until the end of August/Middle of September. I've reached out to a number of people I know who have emigrated to Dubai/ have previously worked in the country, though, so I hope to be able to make a start on the job search immediately and have something in place (or close to being in place) by the time we start. As my husband is a teacher, too, I have a number of worries about us both being able to live off his income - so it's important that I find a job asap. If anyone could recommend some good recruitment consultants that I could reach out too, that'd be amazing too. [b'>Geordie - did you get your marriage certificate attested straight after the wedding? I'm worried about the turn-around time with that! In my situation it always helps to have UAE experience under your belt. Sorry I can't help with the friends situation as DH and I are both in our mid-50s. Just read the bit about the Visa. You can either be sponsored by your husband at first, which means you need his permission in writing for everything, but it makes it easier for you to get temp work. Did something very similar a couple of years ago. Having never been to Dubai and never even fancied a holiday here !! DH got offered a job out here (after looking for over a year back home), at the end of March. We got married mid April and he left me a week later :( I had four weeks to sort out what we wanted to bring with us, arrange for the dogs and cats to be brought out and then fly out myself mid May. Everything seemed so much more difficult when I was looking at things from thousands of miles away. As people have said, don't panic, it's nowhere near as bad as it seems. What I will suggest, though, is if you can get on your husbands sponsorship and I'm sure his work will help once you get here, it can be much easier to find work. You haven't said what type of work it is you want. I found that being sponsored meant I managed to do some temp work until I could find a permanent role. If you have any more questions, and I'm sure they'll come thick and fast, feel free :)

shopping in local supermarkets (not the expat ones where a jar of marmite costs 8 pounds!) I've just realised my 2 tiny turnips cost 5 pounds!! what's that all about???! They do taste great with me haggis though. :D Now that's a price I don't mind paying. Regularly :)

Thanks Ladies, Good idea, I will try two trial runs. I usually leave at 7.00 for the school drop off. I'll try from Al Khail to Umm Suquiem first. It's going over that bridge that scares me, from Al Khail. It's pretty high and I have a fear of heights. Just focus on the road ahead and don't look anywhere else. It's not that bad really.

I LOVE our laundry guy - I give him a black bag full of washed clothes and he delivers them back beautifully ironed 2 days later, nothing has ever gone missing (5 years been using him) and he has never ruined anything. So cheap too. He is one of my Life Savers. And no I am not giving it the EW curse by releasing his details. He's alll mine...mwahahahaha. :D So cruel :(

and what's the point of employing a maid if you then send out the ironing.... To be honest, as she only comes for a few hours twice a week, I'd rather have a clean house and worry about some of the ironing myself. I know I hate it and DH shirts go to the laundry for pressing, but why are they so inconsistent. And before anyone says anything, yes I have complained and they are positive it's not them. Now I need to find a new laundry.

do your wash then send to the laundry for ironing. That way it will be done properly and you dont have to whinge about it not getting done, or done properly. Laundry is cheap. So let not do a poll and say we did. I do send his work shirts to the laundry for pressing, but still haven't found one that does it right all the time. The latest company have been sending them back with dirty/ sandy marks on them and I know they were clean when they left the house as I always check.

was half done - very baddly and all folded to one inch square - making any previous attempts at ironig futile Does my head in. That why I do my own. A maid I used once burnt a shirt and dress and hid them! I just let the maid loose on DH polo shirts and do the rest myself. Easier and less stress than having to try and re iron anything

If you don't get acess let me know and I'll recommend you. There's no way you would get two rooms on the front terrace. One with a small balcony in front would be all. If you were thinking of extending on the ground floor than yes you'd get another upstairs room above. To be honest the front terraces are a waste of space, unless you want to sit out there in public view ;)

Jumeriah Park perhaps Jumeirah Park is all it can be out there I got lost round there looking for Jumeriah Islands :-) Very easy done. because the group is closed i cant view anything, only members of that group! aaaah :( so i called one of the construction companies that deal with Nakheel on upgrading JVT villas and they said to build 2 bed on the terrace and a guest room on g its roughly 700,000AED,. does that sound about right? Did they mean build two bedrooms on the front terrace?? If you can try and ask to be allowed to join. There is a whole lot of different things going on with extensions and various companies. There's also the money you have to pay Nakheel, did they take that into account. I would only ever consult with the children if they were young or nearly young adults. Both of mine were under seven when my first husband and I split. Yes it was difficult to explain what was happening to them, but for the first few years we always managed to stay civil at least in front of the girls. What happens later is up to the kids. The only and main issue I can see separating out here, is can you afford to stay here on your own, or would going home be the only option? That would definitely make things harder for the kids. Something a friends told me and it always stuck in my mind was, don't stay just for the kids you've got an awful long time ahead without them and if you're so unhappy now, it probably won't get any better.

Hopefully they may have some room for you once the agression is sorted out. Sadly they only day care until 1:30pm on a Saturday so we are looking elsewhere for daycare. I just cannot believe how hard this is: Maid goes to church on Saturday from 8am - 330/4pm. So need the dogs checked in at let out at lunch time. Homely Petz will only do either full time pet sitting and we have to get rid of the maid, or maid care where the maid has to be there so it's a no go. Urban Tails don't do summer doggie day care, besides which dog is aggressive. Positive Paws only do doggie day care until 130pm on a Saturday besides which dog is aggressive. Half the population of Dubai is away in August and we can't ask a friend to come to our villa every Saturday throughout the summer. Worst ever timing for having a baby. Sorry didn't realise it was a Saturday you needed. Where do you live? Arabian Ranches. Sorry can't be any help out there, but I was hoping we could have managed something for you.

A text off the police doesn't make you panic - yep, just got one! :'( but does make you swear!!! Or if one is driving behind you, you don't bat an eyelid. At home I used to be petrified You beat me to it. I was just about to say exactly the same thing. Unfortunately I can't access that from work to see, but if it is and you can search, there are a number of posts on about extensions along with numerous pictures, as you will be better goiung with the recommendations on there.
