Take heart - I must be ancient compared to all of you, I don't even have a twitter account. DD showed me hers and started one for me, but I wouldn't have a clue what to do with it. I very occasionally look at it and see what she's been up to ;)

I bought mine from Geant or C4 ( it was one of them) and it was 3 metres long. That was where I wanted to go, but no, DH said we needed a better quality one to get a better picture. Personally I can't see any difference from when we used the original one ;) edited by Geordie expat on 06/03/2014 I bought a new LED smart TV so the picture is amazing. :-) We've got a lovely new TV, but he still wanted a lovely new cable. Men ;) I have 3 all various lengths so you cannot just blame the gender ha It wasn't that, it was the fact that if I hadn't been there he would have bought the one that had a 'gold plated' price. It's not as if we watch that much via the lap top.

Teachers leaving mid year is a huge problem that I know many schools are facing. I just dont undersatnd how a teacher can leave her/his job in the middle of the year?? WHAT HAPPENED TO COMMITTMENT I WONDER!!! I think it unfortunately went out the window when the rent rises started kicking in :(

And guess what I'm doing tonight :) :) :) I'm even getting an early finish from work, all of half an hour ;) I'm going too GE! Can't say I'm a fan but I think he is very talented. Listening to him now, should be a great show. edited by Daza on 06/03/2014 DH and I have both been fans since the 70s, so hopefully he'll be as good as usual and play some older stuff :) And yes he is very very talented.

I was told that if you've been in the same place for at least two years, it's fair wear and tear, and as long as you haven't painted it a totally different colour it's up to the LL to smarten it up. All you need to do is fill in any holes you may have made in the walls. Mind I haven't seen this in writing though.

We had one perfect little girl, then moved countries twice so put things on hold for a couple of years. Then I got pregnant again but had a miscarriage and then couldn't get pregnant... She's now 5.5 and after much heartache when each month came round and I wasn't pregnant we sat down and talked and decided that actually, why were we trying? Our little "triangle" is perfect, our DD is happy, healthy and very independant and although she would love a baby, I think now, at her age, she would like it off and on but not when it interfered if you know what I mean and it would be a few years before they could play together properly and who knows if they will even get on!! Our story is similar to yours CM in that we never wanted ours to be a triangle - but sometimes life doesn't go according to plan! I particularly get frosty when someone says "do you [i'>just[/i'> have the one?" or "do you [i'>only[/i'> have one?" - I know there's not really any other way to ask but it kind of makes you feel like you've failed somehow! Or the constant relative questions - no news yet? when will you have another? Our little triangle works well, it's the way life panned out for us and the only thing that worries me is the future - when DH and I are not around any more. :( TB I ws an only child to elderly parents, but was lucky enough for them to live long enough to at least meet their grandchildren. What I feel though is that being an only child in no way spoiled things and as I said earlier, the friends I made before and during my early 20's are still very much my friends, which as I have mentioned and as have some others, siblings are not always around for you when you most need them.

I find it strange that Reeva felt the need to lock the door of the bathroom in the first place .... I still lock the bathroom door at home when I go, I guess that's more out of habit tho. There are a lot of things that do not add up. First thing I would do if I thought an intruder was in the house is wake up DH, or assume it was him in the bathroom and check. Even if it hadn't been her, he was still aiming to kill whoever he thought was inside - not like it was an act of self defense. Also I read the trajectory of the bullets doesn't even match with his story - he says he didn't have his prosthetic legs on, but yet the bullets were shot from a downward angle. The whole thing doesn't quite add up. edited by desertrose83 on 05/03/2014 I close the door but I wouldn't lock it and they asked him why he left the balcony doors open if he was worried about burglars. The more I read about this and the more I hear, I am now beginning to think that they have had a row and she went into the toilet to get out of his way. Yes, most of us can say and do nasty things when we're hurt and upset, but luckily it's only the monority who have access to guns. I would certainly hate to be the judge at this trial.

Just to add that due to circumstances beyond their control Mum was 40 when she had me and Dad 49 :) Sorry Geordie, wasn't insinuating at all that people shouldn't have children in their forties (a good friend had her first at 43), just that I personally could not cope! :D I'm already an old person with barely any energy at the best of times, haha, my friend on the other hand is very young with a TON of energy! If the body and mind are capable then age shouldn't be much of a consideration. Just neither of mine were up to the challenge...! :D No I certainly didn't take it that way. I was just saying that it can be easy to have children when you're older :)

Just to give you my story - I never EVER wanted children but DH did, so I said if we were going to take the plunge then I wanted 2 children as my best friend is my sister and I wanted the same relationship for my children. My Mum doesn't even talk to her brother! I'm also going to turn 42 tomorrow and I just feel I don't want to go back to nappies, bottles and sleepless nights.... Every family is different and although everyone can give you their experiences, in the end only you, your DH and time will tell what's right for your family. Happy 42nd for tomorrow Cheeky Monkey! And its a Thursday, I will be indulging in a glass of red wine for my cyber friend :( Thank you for sharing your story with me. I like how you described your family as 'the perfect triangle' that could be us too. Ha ha diaper changes at 42 hmmmm. I don't know what brought on the broodiness though. Oh well! Aw, thanks for the wishes Prettyperfect, I shall be indulging in a couple of glasses myself! I'm not actually in Dubai anymore so have to wait another day for the weekend, but what the heck, I'm lucky enough not to be working at the mo and it's school holidays here this week so don't even have to get up early (my DD also likes to sleep in, so that's another consideration, another one might not...! ;) ) :D Just to add that due to circumstances beyond their control Mum was 40 when she had me and Dad 49 :)

And on another similar note. Someone told me that there was an article in one of the papers saying that they have scrapped the 'having to give one of four reasons for eviction'. I was an only child and at the time felt the odd one out as most of my friends had at least one sibling. I do feel though that because of this I have some very strong friendships, which have been of my choosing and I have never felt lonely. On the other hand DH has a younger sister and although they were never close, they now have not seen or spoken to each other for over 7 years.

We've just done one for both of us via out local police force back in the UK. They needed to be paid GBP20 by cheque !!! and we had to ask our eldest to send off the forms we couriered to her along with a cheque. It took about two months to get a response and we're now waiting for the originals to come back to us by courier from DD. In hindsight it would have been easier to have it done here, but as we haven't been here two yeasr yet, we needed to get it from back in the UK

I dont want him to be guilty but alas i fear he may be,,,,,,, Agree with that. I just can't wrap my head around it tbh. Spent about an hour discussing it with DH lastnight, asking him if he thought there was an intruder in the house, wouldn't he wake me first? & why would you assume an intruder had gone into the bathroom and locked the door? I get that people react differently under stress, but just all seems a bit odd to me. Wasn't there also 2 doors between him and Reeva? The main bathroom door and one to the toilet cubicle. I think the only people who actually knew what went on are him and the other person is no longer alive to tell her side of the story. I too don't want to think he's guilty but I fear he is. Why would an intruder lock himself in the bathroom? And if it was your other half, don't you think he would check where you were first. I have a horrible feeling that it was a row gone terribly wrong.

Yes but if employer wanted to make life difficult he could say he had absconded etc. Very doubtful he has done that though. Probably stories ;) I would have thought this was very unlikely to happen, especially since the person concerned filed the original complaint and is still in Dubai. Probably the ex employer trying to frighten him.

The employer can cancel his visa, they could have forged his signature, reported him as absconding, etc. But it is likely not to have happened and the person should go back to MOL and ask for advice. Can they do that without having the actual passport, I thought it had to go with the cancellation form. I've heard of people couriering their passports back here for cancellation so they weren't banned.

Dear Lalalayla, The only reason that JVC is cheaper than Springs is because it is a new area and not quite established as yet! Once the facilities and shops have been put in place, the property prices are sure to soar - as they are all over Dubai! I live in the Springs and it only takes me just over 5 minutes to reach Regent International School. Friends of ours live in JVC, and it takes them under 10minutes - access to and from the area is not bad at all. I hope this helps! :) JVC will probably be similar to JVT by this time next year. We rented a 2 bed villa for AED110k almost two years ago, they're now asking nothing less than AED140K and in some cases up to AED175K. The place still isn't finished. No street signs, no water in the canals, parks falling apart and in a lot of cases the street lights haven't worked for over a couple of months. Oh and we still don't have a shop. But saying all that it's still not too bad just for the size of the stand alone villas :) Although I wouldn't be able to afford the current asking prices. <em>edited by Geordie expat on 04/03/2014</em>

Hi everyone, I usually wait until I go back home to Scotland to have my hair done as I have have one too many very expensive hair disasters in Dubai! However this is getting to be increasingly difficult as my hair is getting ridiculously grey! & needs coloured more often! I was reading on here about pastels and like the sound of it, can anybody who's been give me feedback and possibly recommend a stylist there? Nah - i only like Earl Grey.... but thanks... Relieves the symptoms of my artritus, so i can get out of bed and walk normally and not like a 90 year old. I agree with that definitely, but fortunately I don't need that - yet!!! Anyway I'll need all the caffine I can get for Thursday night :) And I agree with you about the Earl Grey.

Its actually not that bad - found a quite good decaf coffee in C4 and as long as i can get my twinnings earl grey i can survive.... and the [b'>benefits of going caffeine free are worth. [/b'> I do have a Caffeeine day once a month or so...... Benefits please and I may try it if they are worth it

And the same goes for most childrens early months clothes. They only get uesd for a few months. I remember buying my eldest DD some lovely dresses which she only got to wear once or twice. I then passed them on to various friends, who were very grateful and in turn one even came back to me 18 months later for my youngest DD. In all it hadn't been worn more than 15 - 20 times and was still in perfect condition when I passed it on again :)

We've used a company in the UK recently to transfer a lump sum and they got us a much better deal than any bank. Obviously the more you transfer the better, but even accounting for the amount we had to pay to transfer it was a much, much better rate than the bank. They have told us that if/when we use tham again we will get an ever better rate as a previous customer, so worth sticking with them.

Thank you for saying exactly what I was thinking. And the animals aren't always vaccinated against diseases. As kids we all used to eat dirt and I was constantly rolling around in the grass at the park, over the fields etc. I always remember seeking young boys peeing in the grids at the side of the road being held by Mum ( Usually being whisked out of a car at high speed before they wet themselves) Me too and I onced licked a snail as a dare :( Eeeeewww
