Just wait, Singa. You'll surprise yourself with the things you will do as your child gets older and/or your family gets bigger. i probably will but letting her urinate infront of people is something i don't think i will ever do.. if i absolutely must i'll probably go to a place where i know people won't sit or play.. Yes I agree we should teach our children how to behave in these circumstances, but for a start there will always be 'accidents' and as we've said you will never ba able to find totally clean grass for her to play on.

Last time we flew it was the usual 3 - 4 - 3 configuration in Economy. Service was fine and I can't compare with LHR, as it's years since I've flown from there, but we got through no probs, just walked straight through :)

It does have that box ticked indiscriminately when I log in. You will have to ensure that you log out fully and start again, but you'll always need to keep an eye on the little tick box.

I know you may have a preference for a villa but have you considered the Greens? 2 beds with maids/study are around your budget Great pools, shops close by, loads of kids and a real community feeling I lived in the Marina several years ago and prefer The Greens hands down These apartments don't accept pets, do they? Mine is full of pooches. They even have a pet community group Could be an idea for us perhaps, although we have two dogs and three cats, may be a tad too much ;)

JVT are asking silly prices for 2 bed villas. There are quite a lot of empty properties around now. We're coming up to our third year now and RERA has said we're due a 10% increase, which isn't too bad when you see what they're being advertised at. It's a lovely place to live if you want plenty of room both inside and outside, but no facilities apart from the grassed areas and tennis courts. We are due at least one, if not two shops soon though, although it's only 5 minutes drive to Spinneys's at Springs.

Then considering the weather here, the child will sit indoors most of the months anyway. I wouldn't agree with that Alemania, lots of the children around us are out all year round - the ones that are here over the summer spend all their time in pools and playing outside in late afternoon. We and a lot of our neighbours use our gardens all year round too :)

I'm also thinking of how nice it would be to live on a villa, but I don't drive, so getting out of a compound for every little **** will be an issue, besides if you have a garden, you'll need a gardener, so with two cars [b'>and a gardener [/b'>it would be at the end more expensive than an appartment. Then considering the weather here, the child will sit indoors most of the months anyway. Also why need a gardener. We do our own and only "borrow" one when we're away.

My eldest DD absolutely hated sports, to the extent that she would even try to get out of school on gym days. I only once tried to persuade her to take some sort of sport up and she was so distraught I never ever mentioned it again. She did play out plenty with friends though on bikes, in the garden etc. so I never really worried about her fitness. Now in her late 20s she is more than happy to do the occasional run, go to the gym and does lots of long distance walking :) <em>edited by Geordie expat on 26/02/2014</em>

JVC has no communal pools, but if you have a stand alone villa the garden is big enough for one. Getting onto the road to AD might be a tad of a long run, as you would have to go down the Al Khail to the Hessa St flyover and do a U-turn via that to get bak up towards the old Emirates Road. Hi Geordie, unfortunately as we are renting, I don't see us sinking a pool in anytime soon lol. Thank you for the feedback, its very disheartening to hear that they do not have any communal pools. My next option would be to swim at the gym bleh. Maybe Springs is a better alternative then even with the AD distance me thinks? Depending on which Springs you choose, there is a road from there up to the old Emirates Road, via JVT. Not sure if that would make any difference. PS We're renting too in JVT and no way would we put a pool in. Some have mind, but some have also installed the overground ones too.

Rafelisia, I'm looking at mid-career/senior level positions. I've got over 6 years of experience in my field. Sorry to say, but 6 years experience is generally not enough for a senior level position. Most of the senior level roles that I know of across a range of industries require closer to 10-15 years of professional experience. This might be a matter of managing/adjusting expectations. Exactly this, yes. And PS. I'll tell you what some (most?) employers are thinking, and that is that if you have a child or children, you have a husband as well. Apologies to the OP, but supporting your 'lifestyle' -- ie that of a single mum -- isn't part of their remit. They want to employ experienced people sure but if you are a woman, you're already behind the eight-ball, plus if you have sprogs, then they are going to assume that you have a husband picking up the slack. Call them old-fashioned, but this IS the UAE. I'm surprised that they even gave you a boost in pay after your divorce, but you can't expect more than that. [b'>We live in a country where you can still ask for young and pretty receptionists within a certain age range, [/b'>so expecting that a company will cover you pay-wise if you're not in a recognised sector of local society is like asking for the moon (with extra stars thrown in for free). Good luck. Sorry to be a downer. But to reiterate: six years is like ... kindy in the business world out here. I can totally agree with this, as someone who has 30+ years experience in the admin, reception and PA field, I honestly though getting a job here wouldn't be as hard as it was, especially since I have no kids or school runs to contend with. But no. It's taken me nearly two years, quite a bit of temping and one rubbish job to actually get something. Yes I was told that they wanted someone with my experience, but in the next breath I am too old for the position. Sorry, but experience and being young - just doesn't add up

What they should do is use an app, where you can choose to pay a certain amount that will give you a number of vouchers. Like having "entertainer credit". You pick the vouchers you want to use and then that goes off your entertainer credit worth. Let's say you pay for a package of 20 vouchers a 100aed. Might be more expensive but you get the ones you want. I'd be happpy with that as long as you could choose from whichever book you wanted to. Save trying to swap vouchers :)

No 2015 they can give you notice at any point however doing it for 1 year from end of contract. There is no law to say they have to give it within 90 days of a contract ending. I queried this with the RC Sorry about that :( It has answsered a few peoples questions though about when the notice can be given. Hey, you never know, the rents may have settled by then ;)

Not sure about the governmental vets clinic, but we use Blue Oasis at DIP for our 5. I would say that there are no vaccinations that should be skipped and yes try and get it all done at the same time. It's only two including the rabies and you will also need kennel cough if you ever plan to send him to daycare or boarding kennels, but there again we get ours done anyway, just in case.

The letter just stated that the rent would be increasing, but not by how much. I suspect he's waiting till nearer the time just in case the RERA calculator goes any higher than the current 10%. Also he has over 200 villas on our place and there are some people who werew due to renew at the beginning of the year and still haven't got the correct contracts !!!

I don't think Shop and Ship is allowed to ship makeup.. please someone correct me if i am wrong.. i hope i am wrong.. i've seen them in souq.com too Sarahlou is the expert on SnS ;) Although a colleague of mine has had shampoo sent via them from Boots in the UK without any problems

I think this is one situation where any method of communication before the 90 day period starts can be used. It certainly doesn't have to be by registered letter. I would have thought that he would send you your new contract with the new details on and then it's up to you whether you accept it or not. So if he has said on day 91 that he is putting your rent up by the amount the calculator states you've got to pay it. Our LL sent us a letter stating that the rent was increasing, but didn't say by how much and a sample contract of the one he expected us to sign. This was well before the 90 days started. We have since been back to him numerous times saying that we don't accept the contract and will only pay the increase stated by RERA. <em>edited by Geordie expat on 25/02/2014</em>

Am I the only one wanting to leave LOL? We're not exactly wanting to leave, it's just we wouldn't be here is it wasn't necessary. Much as we do like Dubai, we won't be sorry when we can go home. I'll probably get shouted at for saying this, but it isn't really a place for the over 50s. Geordie expat - just wondering why you say this about the over 50's Perhaps it's just that we feel that majority of the people we meet are young enough to be our kids and all they seem to do is want to party. Don't get me wrong we love to socialise, but not starting at 10pm at night. Also there don;t seem to be a lot of people our age out here, or perhaps we're just not looking in the right places. I also had a nightmare of a time finding work, and was even told at some interviews, yes you have the skills we need, but you're too old.

Pretty much the same as Sanddy Dog DH was made redundant in the UK. With age and the area we lived in very much against him, a chance linkedin connection mentioned the possibility of a job out here, and as you say 'the rest is history' Been here two years now and prior to that it was never on our radar, even as a holiday destination. <em>edited by Geordie expat on 24/02/2014</em>

OK so I'm going back nearly 30 years and I was in the UK, but my eldest DD was induced at 42 weeks. That happened first thing in the morning and she didn't arrive until around 30 hours later. Yes it was long and tiring, but I had an epidural and was allowed to do without a c-section as she wasn't at all stressed. What made it worse was when the paed checked her over he reckoned she was more like a 43 to 44 week baby. Please try and stick to what you want unless either of you are in any danger.
