I also agree, but do feel sorry for newbies out here who have no idea how bad the rental agents are. Also they can be under a lot of stress to sign immediately, of they stand to lose out.

I actually think it's really cheeky that the organisers aren't clarifying that it's NOT the original members of UB40 plays at the golf club. That is why I am glad I am away at the weekend and will see the other one at the IV in April You off galivanting again ;) It is my birthday and my friends are here from the UK pamper weekend :-) How lovely. Hope you have an amazing time and enjoy being a pampered pensioner ;)

I think it was very serious. TIve been told the standstill was due to helicopters needing to attend to an accident. :( TRAFFIC IS STARTING TO MOVING NOW..... edited by Diamante on 24/02/2014 I did wonder when I heard then as we left home.

We met with a jam coming out of JVT onto the Al Kahail, where it goes down the old Emirates Road. That was about quarter past 8. <em>edited by Geordie expat on 24/02/2014</em>

It's not advised to use fabric conditioner with towels or anything you want to have absorbency and breathability in (i.e. merino wool, sweat wicking sportswear etc.) These materials work by having gaps in them to absorb water/store cool/warm air. If you use fabric conditioner you lose these gaps and also the fibres become more slippy. The only way to get soft towels sadly seems to be to tumble them. I have found a part tumble then left to finish drying seems to also work. I also use dryer balls which seem to help. As for having fabric conditioner not distributing well in the machine, try using slightly less, cleaning the drawer in your machine and [b'>running a 90 degree wash with some sort of washing machine cleaner in the machine[/b'>. You can also do this with just a scoop of powder used for whites. It should be done at least every two to three months and more often depending on how much your machine is used.

Check out the 3-bed villas in Layan. They are enormous and bang on your budget. You rent from Dubai Properties, no private landlord (but Al Waha next door is private). A friend was asking me about Layan. How do you find out if any are available please?

You two are both quick off the mark today ;) Today???? We are always quick off the mark!!!!! True, it is only Sunday though!!!! Let's wait and see what happens by Thursday :) Geordie how was Santana? He was amazing, still the same hippy he's always been, just a lot more wrinkled. He was on stage bang on time too. No waiting around and he played non-stop. And before you ask, we both danced the night away till midnight :)

Hi Lou101 Just found my bill from Saturday. General examination AED215, Scaling and Polish AED450. With the policy we have I think I usually end up paying around AED100 myself and the rest is covered. Mind we do have to pay extra for this on the policy as a whole. Hope this helps. Yes it does thank you so much Geordie expat We are base in Al Barsha at present but will be moving to ranches end of May, so will look for one may be nearer there... Thanks again. Ours is based at Al Manzil opposite Dubai Mall. It's a good excuse for some time out after :)

With a lot of dental packages you have to pay extra to cover regular check ups, and even then it's not total cover. Choosing a dentist is one of the hardest things I've had to do out here as I have a real phobia (and if anyone who knows me laughs I will personally kill them ;) ) Yes we probably pay over the odds at Nicholas & Asp, but for me it's well worth it.

Jamie Cullum was on stage bang on time at 10.30 as advertised, but this is Dubai so can't take it for granted it will be the same tonight! Wrap up warm, it was freezing last night and barely enough bodies to provide any heat! Such a shame, he is such a great performer, must of wondered what happened when he came on stage to a half empty field. Enjoy! Thanks for this and the advice. It's definitely jeans and jumper weather. Hoefully there may be more tonight, but you never know as Santana's audience could be an older crowd.

On my third call to Ticketek I am told between 10pm and 10.30pm. So... we will go for 10pm on the main stage. If we miss anything there will be a lot of shrieking...... thanks for the input and for those going enjoy. Tomorrow night Rolling Stones, we will be crippled by Saturday morning. Glad you got through, I was still trying :( I did think the website would be right. Enjoy tomorrow too. We didn't bother as we wouldn't have managed two consecutive nights :( Anyway we've got Eric to look forward to next month :)

Well there's no way we could even be there for 6pm and in most other cases the main act has been the last one on. We're banking on getting there about 9pm. Did anyone on here go to see Jamie Cullum last night and if so what time did he start? edited by Geordie expat on 20/02/2014 Have a great time :-) Thanks. We'll probably be the two old fogies found asleep in the corner by 10pm ;) No snoring ha! Does he not come on at 10pm? ;-) Exactly ;)

It's also worth contacting some recruitment agencies out here, depending on what you're looking for. The ones I can recommend are, in order of preference ;) BACME, Miller Hay, Kershaw Leonard, Michael Page, Hays. There are also a fair number of others. Also keep an eye on the job section on here. You will have to be patient though, as it's taken me 2 years, a number of temp roles and one pretty rubbish role I thought would be better than it was, to find a permanent role. <em>edited by Geordie expat on 20/02/2014</em>

I've given up on these sales as they never go where I want to go :( and as you say Sarahlou, oooop North doesn't even exist. We've just managed to get a couple of free flights to Northern Cyprus using the miles collected on our Air Miles card :) Hi GE, would you mind sharing which airline? Cheers Sorry Always Sunshine. I should have explained myself better. We're going to Northern Cyprus, but flying into Larnaca. Much easier and quicker than having to spend an hour on the tarmac in Turkey before flying into Ercan.

Absolute nightmare situation. Have you managed to contact your new LL yet? Perhaps it's worth just a chat with the RC to see if you can get his details from them. Your old LL obviously doesn't want to know, now he's sold it, but I bet the new one will. We have the new Landlord's name and passport number, but that's it. He lives abroard. He has a representative here. We checked out his 'estate agents' from the details given on the agreemet and it's fake. It does't exist. edited by LaLaLayla on 20/02/2014 Sounds worrying to me.I honestly think you need to fall on the mercy of the RC now.

Are there any online stores that sell actual prints (not from my own photos)? I have seen a couple of prints I really like, but the stores have all been in UK or US. Can you shop and ship them? Are they heavy? Are shop and ship paying you commission? ;) If they aren't too heavy and the only ones OP can find why not? I don't get commission LOL ( I wish) :-) edited by sarahlou123 on 20/02/2014 No I agree. I'm a convert now and if they are what you want, why not go for it. We had a lovely print shipped across before Christmas, now all we need to do is get it framed. It was rolled in a tube, but arrived ok. I wouldn't have thought that canvas prints were that heavy. <em>edited by Geordie expat on 20/02/2014</em>

I can offer some advice regarding dogs. Our two go to daycare twice a week at Positive Paws as legally they should never be off leash in public, although you do quite often see people ignoring this. We live in a 2 bed villa in JVT and the gardens there are a great size for the dogs to run in. I can also recommend Mazz Ali at Golden Wave as a good rental agent, he specialises in JVT and JVC. I actually managed to deal with him from the UK. If you want to ask any more please just shout. edited by Geordie expat on 20/02/2014 <em>edited by Geordie expat on 20/02/2014</em>

Washing at 90 degrees seems a bit extreme especially for synthetics, I do dry in the sunlight though if possible. The newer products should do just as well at lower temps and the brigheners in products designed for whites continue to work as your clothes are drying.

Sorry can't recommend any hotels in Zurich we have always stayed with friends. For getting around however I can recommend train, it's a very relaxing way to travel and to take in the Swiss landscape. The Swiss rail systems are pretty efficient (Zurich also has a very good tram system). As another poster said look at the Swiss Pass and see if that will work out cheaper once your journey is planned. http://www.sbb.ch/en/home.html One other tip if you like dark chocolate be sure get some Sprüngli before you leave, according to DH they do the best dark chocolate truffles and very good plain bars. Sprüngli also do macarons which we haven't tried but are reportedly also very good. They are mainly in the German part of Switzerland (upsetting as most of my friends have now moved to Geneva). http://www.spruengli.ch/?lang=en RuthM did you know they have an outlet in Dubai. Dollybird, I assume by reading your posts that you will be leaving the property possibly before the sale. If the garden was put up at your cost, there is no reason why you cannot take the plants and flowers and irrigation to your new property. If the viewer ask if the garden will stay, tell the truth, if no questions are asked, it is not your problem!I certainly wouldn't accept any viewings at short notice by sms !!! taking your shoes off is common practice here I have noticed. I am sorry you had some bad experience. Please double check on this, as I have been told that somewhere in all these rental laws there is something that says gardens must be left. Although I have yet to see anyone do this and I am not sure how up to date most LLs are ;)

Hello again As I am being taken to the rent committee for a hearing may I ask what will happen if they arrange a date and I am not in Dubai?. I have a couple of holidays booked and hope they do not arrange hearings on those dates! Thanks Oh bu**er. I hope your LL is paying the charges? I advised him of the laws and said if he wishes to open a case against me then to go to the RC I am within my rights for no increase and 12 months notice therefore i will not sign anything and let the RC decide Good for you :) Is it worth perhaps contacting the RC yourself (without giving anything away) and asking what would happen if you were out of the country when your hearing date comes up. <em>edited by Geordie expat on 18/02/2014</em>

Yes you must use a fabric softener in each wash, I don't have a dryer and always hang my stuff outside to dry. Thanks so much for your reply! Is about a cap full of softener good enough per load? As with all washing detergents etc. follow the instructions on the packaging. If you must put softener in with towels, use very little as it ruins the absorbency. I always give mine a quick, short tumble dry them let them dry completely in the house. I never use fabric softener on towels.

Can you not just leave it until the contract is up for renewal? Although that may still mean the LL counts him as a new tennant and can ask whatever rent he wants to try and get. Will you not need it registered with Ejari to transfer your sponsorship though? <em>edited by Geordie expat on 17/02/2014</em>

I too think he is just talking. If you had wanted to leave (and there was no chance of that :) ) you would have had to notify him before the 90 days started. Let him go to the RC, I honestly don't think he's got a leg to stand on re an increase.

I just went to the Ejari website and it says this: Who can register with Ejari? Anyone who belongs to the following category can register for Ejari Accounts. 1. Landlords 2. Property management company and its employees 3. Landlord representative I am none of those so I don't think I can access the website to register the lease contract. Or am I missing something? I sent all my paperwork off and got the link to pay. I am a tenant not a LL? Click on this http://www.ejari.me/contact-us/ and it gives you all the paperwork to download and complete ( 2 parts) and all the bits you need to register. They all have to be attached separately and emailed and then they will check them and send you the details to pay. It is over AED500 and the typing shops that do them only charge around AED200 Think I'll save the AED300 and send DH to a typing centre :)

sarahlou123, you responded to an earlier thread of mine and said you were making your place available for viewings by the landlord. Was this written into your tenancy agreement? Just wondering how it compares with desertrose83's contract for 48 hours notice. Perhaps it is something I need to write into my tenancy agreement so that when his lease is up in July I can make the amendment and have him agree to it. Knowing my luck he can probably refuse to accept the amendment. Don't forget all amendments need to go to the tenant before the 90 days starts and yes he is perfectly within his rights to refuse to sign an amended contract.
