Try Lanvins (I think that's how you spell it) in Karama. They've got a good selection of bags. For yourself, I've got a Nine West bag I bought from the store out here, used every day and it's fab :)

How much did you all ship? I don't know if taking everything is a good idea? Should it just be the essentials? (Like sofas, beds etc) or just the sentimental stuff? Personally we didn't bring any furniture at all and I'm pleased we didn't. A number of our friends who did, have now disposed of it and bought new stuff out here. According to them their home stuff 'just didn't look right' out here. We only brought personal stuff.

That's the ones "Not your daughters jeans" is there anywhere else that sells them? I've never seen any apart from in Debenhams and that was last year. Haven't seen any at all this year. Mind last year they were just on one hanging rail in the middle of loads of different stuff, so you had to search the shop for them.

Whats the name of the jeans everybody loves from debenhams ? Was it "Not your daughters jeans" - that's what I read last time. Are they good? Yes they're brilliant, but I haven't even been able to find any full price ones there recently :( Has any one ever tried Miss Sixty jeans?

Like most other people I feel rescue dogs can be quite different to cats. They're just so grateful to have someone love them and look after them. We have a Cyprus Terrier (Heinz 57) and she's so loving and can't please us enough. Cats are a whole different ball game. Awww thank you thats very insightful. If thats the case I will definitely look into k9 friends rather than buying a puppy from a breeder. My dad had a cyprus terrior they are adorable. I wonder if they are ok around small children. Majority of the ones I've met have been. It just depends on how old they are when you get them. Ours was 2ish when we rescued her. She's still a bit scared around anyone, but has never shown any nasty traits and once realises no ones going to hurt her, she's fine.

Are you planning to drive yourself to Abu Dhabi whilst having contractions every 5 minutes? Is your doctor aware of this situation? I think she said her husband will drive her, but I'm just thinking how I would feel if I had to do this trip as a first time Mum and the traffic you could get stuck in. Also how will her husband feel seeing the pain his wife is in while he's trying to concentrate on the driving. Imagine if she has to leave at rush hour tomorrow morning!! Sorry but I would go sooner rather than later and think about staying in a local hotel.

Try Bishops Move. Sorry I haven't got their phone number to hand. What were they like and how reasonable we're their prices? I have a 3 bedroom and the quotes I'm getting for a 20ft container is about £4000. So I will definitely be looking to share a container and reduce what we are taking. We paid around £1700 - £2000 for quarter of a 40ft ISO container. To be honest I was looking for excellent service as well as good price and we have used them a number of times in the UK. Once again they didn't let us down, even at this end :)

I daresay the management will tell you anything - they don't want to lose your business !! how many other phone numbers does she also have ? and how could "the carer came in without the owner's knowledge" ??? Exactly! Where was the manager when she came in? I wouldn't trust these people.. They have 2 nurseries - she was probably at the other one and fired her this morning. Regardless, it's done now. At some point I have to trust someone with my baby - obviously the best thing is if she is with me all day, but that can't happen. I suppose other mums with maids have to trust them too. I'm happy for now but it has opened my eyes to these things that's for sure. Look, people can have long and happy relationships with household staff and you really shouldn't be put off having a maid because of the horror stories we sometimes hear. What about all the people with a great maid who never gives them a days trouble. There's loads of them its just they are hardly ever mentioned here. "Like" :) It's like everything in this world. The bad gets spread round very quickly and the good is never talked about.

Hi ladies, Just looking for some advice...My daughter has had a food intolerance test done and it turns out she needs to completely cut out gluten, dairy and eggs from her diet. She is only 6 and I really don't know where to start!! I wonder if you ladies would be able to give me some advice on sourcing food products and how to go about all of this....thanks x Without wanting to come across as being sarcastic about these test results - doesn't everyone who does them turn out to be allergic to at least the gluten and dairy. It just seems nowadays that if you're not Bipolar or have Polycystic Ovaries you're allergic to Gluten or Dairy. I really wouldn't eliminate things from a 6 year olds diet unless there really was a very good reason to. A friend of ours did something similar years ago when her son was little, as he'd been unwell with tummy problems and the tests came back as allergic to gluten, dairy and eggs. She immediately removed them all from his diet. He's now in his early 20's and has real problems with his diet. There is a lot of food he can't tolerate. Please do nothing until you've had proper testing done.

Just a thought, before I get shot down. But.... couldn't you try and find somewhere to recycle your paper, plastic and glass. That would save keeping some of it in the house. Sorry I can't help with the LL thing. edited by Geordie expat on 13/06/2013 Yes maybe we should it's always good to recycle and I was very into that back home :) but here we have yet to explore that and it doesn't solve this problem.Out of interest do you recycle? Yes we live in JVT and there are bins for paper, tins and glass in all the Springs shopping centre's. I know it wasn't any help with your problem, just thought it might reduce the rubbish in the house.

We went a few years ago and I can't remember the name of the tour guide we used. I think if you try toursbylocals.com for Rome, there's some good ideas on there. One thing I will say is, try and avoid June and July. It's an absolute nightmare, far too busy. If you want some ideas of what to see I'd be happy to help on that. edited by Geordie expat on 13/06/2013

:) Like It was just a general letter from our doctor stating my dh was fit and well to swim. I assume it's to try and stop people with health issues having problems in the water. We did find it weird though. so i have arthritis in my ankles - would i be able to use or would this be a no no....... I would say fine as dh has a bad back and damaged knee :) All the doc checked was his heart and blood pressure. In all seriousness I just wonder if they're trying to make sure no one goes there with a chronic condition and perhaps dies in the pool.

the only one I know of that can be used without the usual membership is on the Dubai Bypass Road. It's an Olympic size one that does not allow children below 18 I think it is. Prices are something like Dhs 15 per visit And you need a letter from your doctor to allow you to use it. Really? I've only ever been there right at the beginning and that wasn't a requirement then...what's it supposed to say on the letter? Cleopatra is a brilliant swimmer and can be let loose? :) Like It was just a general letter from our doctor stating my dh was fit and well to swim. Passion in the Gold & Diamond Park is also good... would'nt go anywhere else. They are straight infront of you as you walk in main door What are they like to buy rings from? Thanks I personally have only had things made and fixed there... the quality of workmanship is very good so assume the rings he sells are the same. He is always quite busy, so usually stands to be a good thing :-) Thanks for this. All I need to do now is a little persuasion :)

I was there a few years ago and stayed on the other side of the island at Kamari. Ok so the beach was black, but it was lovely and quiet, and there was plenty of places to eat out. Also the bus service across the island to Oia and Fira was no problem. If you're thinking of taking kids, I would suggest this area.

Does he mean registering the contract with Ejari, which costs around 190 - 200.? I think so, he was showing her something in Arabic and she does not understand it Is this down to the tenant or the LL to pay for this? Thank you I think it's down to the tenant to pay this, but I could be wrong. Also it's easy to do yourself once you have the documents. Thanks I will ask her to get clarification I thought it was down to LL Could well be, but at least if you do it yourself you'll pay the correct fee. Not what the LL asks for! True I think he is being a dobber as he cant raise the rent or chuck her out They all seem to be up to it now Yes even to the extent of trying to make a few hundred on something like this

Geordie Expat; tbh; most maids couldn't afford to go home at the drop of at hat anyway and most would rely / expect their sponsor to pay. True. Perhaps it was the way I read her post in that employees of her company, apart from management, couldn't keep their passports either. That's also one of the reasons, apart from lack of money, why I don't have a maid. I'd be too soft :)

Just a question KH. What would happen if you needed your passport urgently and the office was shut for the weekend? edited by Geordie expat on 30/05/2013 I have my passport. I would not accept a role that required me to give it up, but then I have the luxury of this choice; many others don't and rely on these jobs to support extended families and villages back home. If they are asked to hand over their passport to their employer as a condition of employment, they would do what they had to do. I was just responding to one of the poster's questions about why anyone would keep an employees passport, to say that it is 'standard business practice' for most expats in the region, and not just for maids. OK so you and I are lucky in that respect, but it still doesn't answer my question. How do the others manage in an emergency? Not being nasty about it, just curious.

This has been said before - What happens if you need your passport in an emergency and it's the weekend or worse still a long weekend?? I don't dispute people holding their maids passports as majority of the time there will be someone available to get hold of it in an emergency. As for company employees NO WAY. just saying it is the way it is. Not disputing the fact that some company's do this, but there's no chance I would ever hand my passport over. Me neither. . We get a copy of our labour card and keep the PP I believe the police do advise employers keep their maids PP though I agree with that, from what I've heard and read it's probably safest. At least in that situation though there would normally be someone around in an emergency to get hold of it. Just a question KH. What would happen if you needed your passport urgently and the office was shut for the weekend? edited by Geordie expat on 30/05/2013

My company don't pay for the family sponsorship, but they do help by doing the applications, all the running around and paying up front, then deducting it off their wages.
