Hi Sourskittleashnut, thanks for the reply! I am only 6 weeks but so far so good! This is my first, so everything is new to me. I just want a doctor who is pro natural birth as that is our wish, and was wondering if at 7 months, is looking for a new doctor the last thing you want to be doing?!? Sorry to hear about your experience. Trust your gut being the moral of the story I guess! It's good to hear City is good for delivery, do you know people who have delivered there? The only thing probably worth mentioning is City Hospital is 30 minutes drive away from me, with no traffic! Imagine a Thursday evening labour via SZR at around say 8pm

Hi ladies, I live in a small community that does not really practise laws until someone complains. There are dogs that bark from approx 4:30pm until 9:30pm randomly and sometimes aggresively it sounds. My baby is scared when she is falling asleep when the dogs bark loudly. I hear them inside my villa and now it is nice weather I want to be able to enjoy the outside in some relative peace. I paid a high rent to live in this community so I do feel I shall be entitled to some peace. Has anyone complainted to dubai municipality to get the issue resolved? Does dubai municiplaity govern these free hold communities ? I do know in the local areas they have full control to solve these issues as they are the governing body. Do you have any experience in the laws in regards to these issues, ie. Noise, disturbance. I have googled but I did not come up with any firm answers. Thank you. I do like dogs and have been the owner of dogs so dont even go in that direction. Your post is very relevant to myself and husband right now as we are going through the same thing. We are fed up to the point we are thinking of moving when our lease is up. Obviously this is not the right thing to do, as wherever we move to could be worse. As soon as the owner leaves her house, the dog barks. Weekday mornings, the weekends, every single day. I caught her one day and notified her of this, giving her the benefit of doubt and told her her dog sounds very distressed as it barks alot. She replied saying her dog has very bad anxiety issues and they were thinking of taking it to doggie day care. We had a couple of weeks of no barking (as I assume the dog was at the day care), but the barking resumed immediately after that again. Having just got off a 15 hour flight yesterday and being woken up with the barking again this morning has just been the icing on the cake. We are expecting our first baby next year too and the thought of having this barking then is unbearable. I don't know what other option I would have but to report this to the Municipality. Have you went down this route yet? Please comment and reply to let me know if you do Pinkdiamondz.

Hi, I am nearly 6 weeks pregnant and my gynecologist for years has been a lady at Mediclinic in Ibn Battuta, however she does not do deliveries, the City hospital is the only place that does. She explained I can see her until around the 7 month mark which she will then pass me onto a doctor in the City branch, but I don't know if I am liking that option much. Is it better to be with the OBGYN who will deliver your baby from the beginning to form a relationship with them and so you know you will be comfortable with them?? Has anyone been in this position before? What are peoples thoughts/preferences on this? Thank you!

Hi, Myself and my husband stopped in Atmosphere Kanafushi over Christmas and New Year last year for 11 nights, it is an all inclusive resort. The place itself was stunning, but the buffet food was really not up to scratch for us. We ended up eating in the a la carte restaurants for lunch and dinner for about 9 of the days. Which is ok, just not alot of variety when your staying at a place for 11 nights. As you are pregnant and your husband will not be drinking, I would probably suggest the all-inclusive may not be worth it. We stayed in a beach bungalow so can't answer on the water bungalows, other than to say we were advised by friends not to bother booking the water bungalows as the walk to and from them to get into the resort is lengthy and really takes it out of you ha  - might be something to think about if pregnant too. You can ring for a buggy but not sure on the waiting time for them... We went in late December and it was red red hot! So I think you will be fine for weather :) Our seaplane transfers were included (prob because we were paying premium for the Christmas period) but normally they aren't included. Take a look on booking.com and the ones you like, contact the hotel directly to get a price and compare. Sometimes the hotel may give you a small discount or throw in some complimentary water activities. We never book on booking.com without speaking directly to the hotel first. Hope this helps! Good luck! :)

I don't think I would be able to sleep at night if my child was driving on these roads at 18 never mind 16! Lowering the age limit here, where the standard of driving is shockingly bad to start with... nah not for me!

Hi ladies, I've recently moved to Dubai and looking to meet other ladies around 25-35 (kids / no kids / working / not working ) I enjoy going for a drink or lunch / shopping / beach / movies etc.. I did go to the coffee meet up but like I've read in other threads most of the ladies had groups that they stuck with and although everyone I met was lovely most of them had children that were my age, so we didn't really have too much in common. Are there any other meet up groups that I can go to that I meet people around my age group? Yeah there is a website called Meetups, which I am guilty of being a member of for about 2 years and yet to make it to an event on there  I am 30, work, married, no kids, from the UK and would be keen to meet, it is quite hard to arrange over here when you can't put up personal information! I keep saying I will make the Expat Woman evening event as I cant make the coffee mornings, maybe I will try the next one they hold! Hey Gev, Not sure how we can arrange to get in contact as you work and can't go to the coffee mornings and I won't be in Dubai for the next evening EW event either. BUT I would like to get in contact with you. Hmmm whats a womens meetup group you are in? Maybe I can join the same one and send you a message there? S. Hey! I am a member of a few groups on there, but if you join 'Crafting Female Friendships', and go to their most recent event which is tonight at Horizon Lounge in Habtoor, I have just put a comment in that event :) I am the one explaining I will make it to the next event! Look forward to hearing from you! :)

I don't know most of them personally, but in my profession it's important to widen my network, so on some way would like to give a good impression, without thinking I want to go out on a date.... I am sure a brief reply of 'Thank You' would suffice then...

What do you do when people sending you personal messages to congratulate on your new job? I find Linkedin quite creepy. So many men request a connection like they are swiping on Tinder. I will connect if I feel it is in my interest to, but when they message me random messages with no purpose I don't reply! I feel it will let them think I want a conversation with them when I definitely don't. (I assumed here that you don't know these people otherwise if you did it would be natural to reply).

We moved out of Remraam last August after living there for 1 and a half years (we were evicted by the landlady as she tried to increase our rent by 14,000AED and we refused)... [b'>Pro's[/b'>: - The pools and landscaping are beautiful - The rents/cost to buy are cheap [b'>Cons:[/b'> - Was too far out from everything - The finishings of the apartments were terrible; gaps in the window frames causing a cold breeze in winter not to mention noise of when people are using the communal BBQ stations. - The maintenance company are very very bad. Slow at responding to problems, never giving you the call back without you chasing the issue up, charge 50AED everytime they are called out to your property and extra to fix whatever the problem is - not to mention these people are incredibly scruffy looking, no uniforms etc and smell badly!! I had to refuse entry to one guy as the smell of him was disgusting! - I came home one day to find the kitchen cupboards had fallen off the walls and were "sitting" ontop of the kitchen benches. The maintenance company came out and somehow managed to cause further damage to the tiles and cracked the plastic casing that was placed at the edge of the tiles. That was never replaced as they never had a white plastic in stock, only cream. - Pools are closed quite frequently for one reason or another, some reasons were unknown but there was once occasion of a grown adult male pooing in the pool (which is baffling when there are toilets at the pool). We just had the most wicked landlady ever and that may have had an influence over our time at Remraam, but honestly we would not move back here. Good luck!

Hi, Is there a place you can buy meat in bulk from that is affordable? I don't fancy taking out a loan to go and buy in bulk from Spinneys! Thanks in advance! C4 do large packs of meat and are cheaper than Spinneys Thanks! I was hoping for maybe a market somewhere, I do however doubt this exists and especially without anybody knowing about it already... I heard a little rumour that there is a guy who sells meat from his home in JVT haha! Dont know how true this is!

We have just adopted a little dog and had no idea he was an incessant barker until our neighbour (who we are good friends with) let us know. Apparently an hour and half on day one of being left with our other dog who isnt a barker. To say we were mortified in an absolute understatement. We went to all our other neighbours and explained the situation and that we needed to know if they did hear them during the day could they let us know. We have one neighbour who is at home most of the time and he said he didnt hear them at all. We have been working really hard with the new addition to get him settled and calmed down, unfortunately his previous owners didnt train him, he was never walked (he is 3 now) and it appears he was beaten because he is petrified of men. As someone on the other side of the fence, I would be more than accepting to know the barking was going on and would do my best to address the situation as a neighbour. I totally understand there are people who don't know about the barking, so would never approach the situation with anything other than care and to let them know. Its nice to hear there are people that are welcoming of it, unfortunately ours wasn't. We have just moved in weeks ago and now there might be tension which I did not want at all. Awful to hear about the poor dog being beaten and treated like that!

It happens a lot where you're living sorry to say :( Some neighbours are great about it as they haven't realised, but some well.......... Trust us to move right next door to it! Well, we seem to have no luck whatsoever so not surprising! We seem to have got the neighbour in your 'but some well....' category! Told us he hadn't been barking for that long and walked inside and shut the door! I was in shock! Only tried to help... P.S - I am back on FB!!

I don't understand some parts of your post, are they stopping in a hotel and causing you to sleep on their living room hotel floor? Why are you sleeping on the living room floor? Its typical for alot of guests to forget that when they visit, we too are not on holiday with them. We work. We have jobs 5 days a week and its not possible for some people to entertain them every single night. Why not just remind them you both are working through the day and are tired some nights... they may be ok with having a night in.

Im moving apartments next month and wondered if anyone can give me any good companies that u have used before? I have heard some real horror stories about some companies and just don't kow where to start looking. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks DO NOT use Mr Move UAE - things will go missing and the Management are rude, cheeky and make slanderous comments against you if you threaten them with the police! Unfortunately I cant recommend a good one as they are the only ones we have used since being here. But in the midst of all the **** I am going through with them, there has been a British guy who I have spoke to about my experience and he has been great giving me advice! Andy at Reco Moving Consultants - 052723O514 - Great and professional! If you give him a call, he will talk you through everything. I will be using him next time. Good Luck!

It has a Cafe Bateel in, Carluccios, Carrefourre, amongst a few clothing shops... I may have put 2 and 2 together and made 5 ;) She works in Abu Dhabi and they have two dogs. Any the wiser as I don't want to put their names up here. Think I may go and try the new AR shops this weekend :) Haha hmmm I know a girl who has just recently got a job working in Abu Dhabi (few month ago - she used to work in Dubai) and has 2 dogs. How do you think we are friends? Have some details I have posted struck a chord?!

Its really hard to say whether I think the move would add much to your life outside of work, as that all depends on your husband's salary. The style of life after all depends on your pocket money once bills/rent are paid etc. I moved here with my husband in 2011 for his job, we had/still have no children, I was 25 when I moved here, his first salary was not great at all. But our thinking was, it will get us there and opportunities will arise from being there - which it has thankfully - but I could not find a legal job for 10 month. It was very hard for me as everywhere was asking for UAE experience but I obviously never had it. You will find UAE experience a must for the higher paid jobs. Point being, we could not save a penny for years with me not working for so long and on his salary. With you giving yourself that 2 year margin, you may very well not go home with savings (husband's salary dependent and of course your ease at finding a job) but you will definitely be able to have quality time before settling down like you ask, as there are things that you can do here that are an amazing experience! Also, I would say come and try Dubai now while you are child free as once you have children, as it may be alot harder financially (schooling fees alone) to have a quality life here. Come, try it out, you have nothing to lose!

I also just have to add that they replied to my complaint email in the most disgusting and shocking of manners. I have heard some horror stories in my time of customer complaints being treat with disrespect but these cowboys have stooped to a level I didn't even think any person/company that had any morals or integrity could... So, after it took them 2 and a half days to reply to me, after I threatened them with the police twice, they have fabricated a story so unbelievable to try and scare me NOT to go to the police! Apparently, I was "drinking all day throughout the day and move" and said "it is clear you were consuming large amounts of alcohol", then "we are stunned to discover you drove to JVT whilst under the influence"... Lies! Complete lies! They packed up all of my bottles of alcohol, what did I do, keep a bottle of wine by my side all day swigging it repeatedly? From 10:30 in the morning??! I have reported them to the police - no way did their defamatory comments scare me!!

Oh interesting! What district did you used to live in in JVT? I will know straight away once you say the district... Well, there is a canvas store in the new shopping centre in Arabian Ranches too. It looks quite good from what they have on their walls... but I am really hesitant to try anywhere without hearing from actual people that their canvases haven't faded in colour...

Well we got our deposit cheque back - minus 1k - which I thought was quite reasonable as the villa hadn't been repainted in three years. It would have cost us more than that to have it done ourselves. After taking some advice we threatened to take the agency to the Rent Committee, not the LL and bingo we had the cheque within 24 hours :) Fantastic news!!! When our LLady refuses us ours, maybe I will threaten the terrible agency with RERA too, as the problem is they do not communicate our issues/threats back to her. I think that was our problem too. They kept saying the LL was out of the country or unavailable to sign the cheque. After we had spoken to a friend, who's a lawyer, we went straight back to them and just said we were going to the Rent Committee the following day, as if by magic, one cheque :) They even banked it for us and it has now just cleared  Blimey! That was fast! ;) Well, you now know that they had your cheque all along and were just trying to pocket it, terrible! You know to steer clear of this agency in future! On another note, I might need a good lawyer for this hassle I am having with the moving company!! Terrible what they are putting us through!!

You should report the stolen items to the police and make it clear to the moving company that you're doing so. Sorry you went through this! Just done this yesterday! Went to the police, made the report, he called the company immediately after in front of us and told him to go to the station today. Police told me he is going to tell him to pay, if he refuses, it will go to court. I can not see the Court being happy with the company allowing it to get that far over "missing items" worth just under 3,000 AED. Its minor in the eyes of the law. Lets see what happens but I am not holding my breath!

Interesting to see the replies on this, we too are looking for a canvas print. We bought a groupon or cobone years ago and had 4 canvases done, they worked out about 100 aed each, so cheap, but we went back to Newcastle one August therefore the AC was completely off for nearly two weeks, when we returned we noticed they had faded so badly to the point they looked nothing like the original pictures. My husband thinks it is because they were cheap quality...

I used Phoenix last week, they were fine, 9 guys, 2 trucks all polite and helpful, better at packing than unpacking but they put up all the curtains and did a great job. I paid 2700 moving from 3 bed to 4 bed villa within the same area. They also arranged move insurance too and I paid 300dhs for that on top of the move fee. I would use them again. Wow! I am even more annoyed at my experience reading this! I moved on Friday and it was terrible from start to finish - I put on a new thread earlier on. The company I used told me no one will insure for a local move as it is just not worth it so I took out no insurance. I have been so so stupid. I feel a complete idiot. But pleased you had a good experience! I will keep this in mind for when I move in 20 years time - as I cant see it happening any time again soon!

I cant offer you advice on the price of a full body hair removal quote, but I go to Silkor on JB road for other areas doing. I have been getting my full bikini, stomach and underarms done and had a bit of a nightmare at the start. I had one girl that was so bad at laser, when I asked her to do tiny spots outside of their drawing line she would say no we can not - so unprofessional. She also recommended Electro for my stomach so I had 3 sessions of this with her (pure **** on earth that pain). I was really not at all happy with her so asked to move to a different girl, she was ok but then went on maternity leave after one session! I am finally settled with a 3rd girl called Christia - highly recommend her!! Who also advised I should never have had Electro on my stomach and should have had laser. After 4 sessions I have paid 3,600 AED upto now (only because I had 2 entertainer vouchers and got 2 free - its 1,800 per session normally), and paid 1,000 AED for 10 sessions of Electro which I have now converted to laser. But I will need at least another 4-5 sessions as my hair is light brown... and that will probably be close to 6,000 AED I think. So maybe on reflection... for 7 sessions of full body your quote is reasonable?!

I wont post the name at the minute, I want to wait on their reply to my email - but If I don't get what I want and what I feel I deserve I will absolutely name and shame them! The guy said they were regularly mentioned on Expat Woman (funny because I didn't see their name mentioned once when I searched through threads - tell tale sign, hindsight is marvellous) - but this one guy has been terrible with his "customer service" and his story has changed repeatedly trying to get his story in place so that they would only have to reimburse for as little as possible. His character has well and truly shone through since this, and I wouldn't put it past him to be searching this site and across social media for my scathing reports on them - which I will most definitely be doing if I don't have this resolved.

I was deadly serious about joining the FB page, you may even get bricks for free if someone is leaving Im just going to have to give into the peer pressure of my friends and get back on it I think! For the free bricks if nothing else!

If you want to lower that estimate try getting used bricks. And dont cement them in if its a rented property. I'd rather have some sort of hard surface than sand in the garden, too much dust gets in the house as it is. Good advice regarding the cement! I dont think we would cement them down... Where would I get used bricks from? Do people actually sell used bricks somewhere? This is my first property with a garden and is all quite new to me.

Very much sounds like a smoke screen. It wouldn't even surprise me if the LL is in Dubai and it is what they are just telling the agent! I think its time they met your husband!!! I really don't want it to come to that as I quite like living here now ;) Hahahahaha weeelll needs must GE!! My husband is quite a placid Geordie, it takes alot to get him going! But landlords, rent issues, and the terrible system for tenants revolving around leasing is one of the things that gets his goat!

I would go speak with RERA. I imagine a simple phone call from RERA to the landlord will be sufficient to scare them into issuing the check. I imagine it's a landlord who thinks that by making it difficult, you'll eventually give up and let the matter go. You really need to be proactive and stay on his case the whole time till you get the cheque back. From my experience of going to RERA about our landlady, they wont ring them and for most, it certainly wont scare them if they do. They know how to play the game. Its like a game of bluffing, until the tenant officially files a case and the LL receives notification of it, they will play the game and keep the money. In the case of my LL, she would not give two hoots if she received a call or notice to attend court for the case we filed... its a disgrace the way they behave!
