I am not personally affected by this but just want to express my support for the parents in their efforts to have the increase in the school fees approved by the KHDA rather than closure of ECPS. This affects the lives of the students, parents and staff hugely and I can really sympathize with all of them. Holding thumbs that this great school manages to stay open!

Just a suggestion as it could be a number of things, but if it doesn't clear up have her tested as this happened to a friend of mine and it turned out that her daughter had a fungal infection in her lungs and she needed very specific medication to treat it. I hope tou get bto the bottom of this and it clears up soon.

its actually quite common to tip nurses here, in our antenatal classes the head midwife actually suggested we would get better service if we did. having said that I didn't tip and my nurses will still lovely. I actually don't believe in tipping waitresses either or anyone who is getting paid to do a job. But I do find myself tipping in this part of the world where people earn so little and a small tip can mean a lot. Ks, it is outrageous that this Head midwife suggested this at the antenatal class!! I wish you could name and shame - they should all be ashamed and frankly, you should report this to the management of the hospital. She has no right to speak for her team, many of whom probably would be horrified.

As a nurse, it is a no-no. We take a vow to treat everybody equally and without prejudice. Patients do give cards / chocolates / flowers / other gifts because [i'>they choose[/i'> to show their appreciation for the care they received from and individual or team. Ethical nurses would never expect anything or change their care plan according to who 'tips' them or not. Sadly this is not the same for all cultures, in some, nurses are considered highly educated and superior and they do wield their power over their patients. In South Africa, I witnessed a situation where bed-ridden patients had to pay nurses to bring them a bedpan and if they couldn't and they messed the bed, they were slapped or verbally abused! So very sad, but this does go on as this noble profession is not a calling for all nurses.

Sorry to threadjack but can I ask why your doctor doesn't recommend City any more? I'm due to deliver there in a few weeks and it would be useful to know of any potential issues in advance. Thanks :). Bump for Nora.. It looks like something was lost in translation. It's not that NF's Dr doesn't recommend CH, they don't have rights to deliver there since resigning, so cannot offer it to their patients. edited by Gina on 27/11/2011

A lot of woman have babies at this age. As long as she goes for all the pregnancy check ups any concerns can be addressed asap. There are also a number of tests offered to pregnant women which she can have if she wants to.

Dr. Ekaterina at Infinity will be very supportive about this. At Medcare, Dr. Luthra will NOT help with this, she refused to do this for me and so I shifted to Dr Ekaterina who was at City back then.

I used Infinity Clinic for my youngest. There is a lovely lady called Helen, I think she is a qualified health visitor from the UK. She was so supportive and knew her stuff, I had an underweight baby and took her there regularly for checks and advice. She runs the well baby clinic there. If you would like to take LO to her, the no. is 04 3948994.

I get annoyed that they keep telling people to vote for their favourite contestant because people will vote for them despite their performance and not because of it. They should be telling them to vote for the best performance of the night IMHO. Interesting that they did not mention the no. of votes on the last show - I think that the numbers are down as it is a bit goody goody boring at the moment. I'm enjoying it but I do fast forward most of the show; only watch the contestants' performances and the judgements. Viva FF! edited by Gina on 09/04/2011

At 6 months, stage 2 formula is what to give. Babies should have formula or breast milk until 12 months of age. Thereafter, breast milk can continue as long as mum and baby wish but formula should stop as baby should be getting all nutrition from solids. Whole cows milk can be given as a drink to go with solids. Follow on formula beyond no. 2 is not necessary unless a paed prescribes them - just extra, unnecessary calories causing obesity in toddlers - we never had follow on and we are here to tell the tale!

You haven't been given any bad advice, but you are right, there is no need to give a bottle. Just feed for longer, say 30 - 40 mins on the first breast (to ensure lots of hindmilk), burp, then 10 - 20 mins or more if LO wants on the second breast. I would recommend feeding 3 hourly until birth weight is regained, even 2.5 hourly during the day. A good website is www.drjacknewman.com and look at the videos, especially on good sucking, compressions and a good latch. Good luck, it's tiring but worth it .:)

I had thrush and it hurts; sympathy to you! This was the treatment I was advised to use by a lactation consultant and it worked, I tell all my friends: Gentian violet to nipples 2 x a day for a max of 4 days + Canestin ointment to nipples after feeds for 14 days (10 - 14days but advised to ZAP it once and for all) + Nystatin syrup to baby's mouth 4x a day for 14 days (10 - 14days but advised to ZAP it once and for all) + Canestin to baby's nappy area [b'> only if [/b'>thrush has developed there. Together with: Frequent hand washing of all family member's and carers' hands, including baby's. (Baby is cuddled, etc. and sucks hands so fungus lives on anyone in contact with baby and on baby's hands. This is how it spreads and recurs so easily.) Wash all bath towels daily at 60 C to kill fungus on them - for the 14 days of treatment. Also bibs, etc that get baby's saliva on them. Of course, you should run this by your doctor, but it does work!
