Yes this is my dilemma, my husband is insistant they got to KG2 when i and the rest of the world dont think they're ready. They'll be the youngest in the class. their birth date makes it tricky. either the oldest in kg1 or the youngest in KG2. I have to try for KG2 because this is my husbands insistance. Men, grrrrr. He thinks that because he started KG1 at 3, and now has a PHD that it's ok for the girls to go the same way. but not everyone is built the same. I'll have a look at the american schools. Wish me luck :/

You could probably get them into Bradenton Prep, in Sports City, along with Jumeirah Baccalaureate and Collegiate American. Be aware that American curriculum schools tend to be 20-30k dirhams more than IB or British schools. For British schools, you might have luck with Regent or Star at the last minute. I think the school situation is much, much better than it used to be and you probably won't have much trouble finding them someplace to go. Thanks for that, I'll look into these schools tomorrow. feeling so discouraged!!

I spoke to Fiona and she blatantly told me she wasnt interested in helping me because I told her I was having trouble convincing my husband that the girls should really be going into KG1. They are turning 4 on the 9th of sept and have done 4 months of KG1 as a school in sharjah. What am I going to do? I'm feeling so upset, I don't know where to turn. Its been a very hard 12 months for me and I've neglected this, and now I feel my girls are going to pay for it. My husband doesnt seem worried, but he wants to force them into KG2, even if it means putting them in a low scoring school to achieve it. I'm so upset :(

why don't you just short-list the schools and check of any available places. other suggestion - try contacting Fiona, educational consultant, she might help you on finding a place. Sorry can't help you with her number, but you can find it if you do a search on EW Thanks, may give her a go

yay! Why didn't we think of the laundry pile?! The thing is, I DID look in the laundry pile (on the dressing table), but didn't look next to it!! My husband found it, he's laughing his head off as we were blaming the girls, he said of course it was you, as you always panic - he's right:cool:

My 11 month old has discovered that he can change the channels manually on the Du box by pressing the buttons! It's driving us nuts! Maybe that will do till you find th remote. Have you looked inside shoes? edited by starsouthern on 10/06/2012 my du box doesnt have any buttons to push - I dont think so anyway, will have another look!! yep looked inside my shoes

do you have small kids? If so where might they have stuffed it.... yeah two 3.5 year olds!! I have no idea where their little minds might feel it belongs!!! under a pillow on their bed?? - DHs carkeys were under a friend's little DD's pillow last summer and he was off to the airport and nearly missed his flight! yep stripped off their beds - not there !!

has the maid (be it FT or agency) maybe tidied it away somewhere? Is it hiding in plain sight? I lost my kitchen sieve a year or so back - and found it weeks later right under my nose in the utensils jar where my mum had put it when she'd been to stay (I had to walk in her shoes in her kitchen in my mind to think what she would have done with it). no, no maids been here for a week, and we lost it yesterday. im trying to go along with your line of thinking, but our place isnt that big, it's definately not in plain sight!!

let's try an easier route. have you really looked for it? Down side of couches? in the fridge? Freezer? yes, fridge, freezer, washing machine, oven, every drawer, cupboard, under the beds, moved all the couches, in my handbags, in the toy cupboard, I'm at a loss!!!!

i've always said we should have a remote for the remotes........ probably no help but in the UK i got a replacement off ebay.... im not sure how that would work with DU as it's a rental, when people finish with the service the box and remote get returned to the company, dont they? so is ours - when you send the box back you don't need to send the remote - tell them you lost it which is probably true in 90 % of cases lol The one i bought is brand new - still wrapped.. I'm not worried about when i send the box back I'm worried about being stuck on one channel for the rest of my life!! Haha! Call DU they will send you a replacement. I'm sure its a common thing! no!! they said in the shop they cant even sell me a replacement as they have no stock!!!

It sounds like you might be suffering from depression, I would go and see a Dr. It might help also to have Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. I have an excellent book called Feeling Good, the New Mood Therapy, By David D Burns. It really helped me, I read it about 12 years ago as I was feeling exactly as you are, especially with being concerned with what others were thinking about me and feeling insecure. I'm happy to lend it to you if you wish. But hopefully you'll look at having some councelling, it's not a shameful thing. I'm about to go for some myself as I'm having problems with depression, I'll get back to you about some good ones I've had recommended to me.

Thanks for the advice, I think the one I'm getting is that one you were talking about skykitty, where you can put a 3g sim in it and access the internet that way. I just wasn't sure about the speed doing it that way - would prefer not to have to open a wifi account or whatever it is you have to do with du with my router.

never used a tablet before, and never had wifi!! I have a wifi router here that someone left me, but how do I get it connected? Can I just plug it in and use it or do I have to ph Du? is there anything else I need to know as a newbie? i want to use it mainly for educational games for my toddlers.

just wanted to update you all of my sis in laws status. The MRI showed no abnormalities. I think he body was just in shock after the trauma of what she went through. She's feeling alot better now, is home and I have friends looking after her. She probably wont be able to fly for another couple of weeks, but she's feeling much better Thanks all for your wise words

Sorry to hear about her ordeal Ginnee. Rest assured the healthcare is very good in Australia, so they will be looking after her. Its common to have pins and needles and numbness after an epidural. I remember having this and feeling very concerned, but it subsided on its own without intervention. It does seem odd that its also her upper body in which she is experiencing it - to my knowledge it usually would be localized to the lower half of the body, but I cannot comment on how uncommon it would be in the upper body or what this would mean. Hopefully they perform the tests swiftly and get it sorted and put all of your mind's at ease. I think the reason it's more in her upper body is because she has a lower back injury from skiing 10 years ago, so they chose to do the block above that injury. Here's hoping it just subsides on it's own. they want to do an MRI but she's a bit claustriphobic, hoping it wont come to that.

Hi Ginee, I had a spinal block, episiotomy and forceps when i gave birth to DD. If you google spinal block and according to my doula, there is one less chemical in the spinal block compared to the epidural. I didn't have any problems afterwards and til now, touch wood, no pain on my spine. I'm sorry to hear about your SIL. Hope it will be over soon. Thanks shjbelle, she had both the epidural and the spinal block. I had only a spinal block for my cs birth 3 years ago with no after effects. I'm hoping it's more related to her anaemia than to the spinal block. waiting to hear news.

i like panadol night - also Adol PM is good and a bit cheaper. I find phenergan knocks me out and stays in my system for at least 16 hours - not a good feel the following day

No, I am sorry, I don't. The pins and needles could be from a trapped nerve that will resolve on it's own. I hope she recovers quickly though, what a worrying time for your family (((hugs))). Congratulations on your niece/nephew Yes, I thought as much, I think it will resolve on it's own, but better to be on the safe side. Thanks for the congrats, he is a lovely little boy from the pics we've seen.

They said she needs an MRI. She had an epidural which apparently didn't help her at all during the birth and ended up with a spinal block to help her with the forceps delivery (I think they ended up cuttin her to get him out). We're worried it's something to do with the spinal block. anyone been in this situationor know of anyone? So, so worried!!

Dr Mooza Kazim of Orthosports on beach road. =- he operated on my big toe last week and all good...... and doesn't even look i'm going to have a war mark...... hmmmm, yeah he was my first consult!!! My husband is insisting I get a second opinion before I go for the op. At the end of your pregnancy they check your cervix to see if you have dilated any and while they are "there" they can do the "sweep" which is basically using their fingers to sweep around the cervix and open to membranes. My Dr was going to do it for me but didn't as I was not remotely dilated so she said it would be a waste of time. Some people find it painful, I imagine you could take some panadol 30 min or so beforehand to make it a little less so. I would say though that if the baby is not yet in the right position, then their head won't push on the cervix, therefore the cervix won't dilate, therefore an induction might not work well. Is she actually past her due date or is just the size of the baby? I think a birth where the baby has been allowed to get into the right position to trigger labour is going to be easier and less painful regardless of size than one that has been induced early when the baby/body is not ready. I think the baby is head down, but she has not 'dropped' yet, by any means, I think it's purely the size of the baby they're worried about. Is there anything they can do to get him to move down further?

Not at all. As I said, it's your choice. I've been through a few agencies, and have found them pretty awful. One sent someone who cleaned my bath with one of my carving knives.... So have found someone who is reliable and i'm happy with them. At the end of the day, Jay walking is illegal and I do that every day too! (and chew gum on the metro but don't tell anyone!) yeah I know, it's an individual thing. The only problem really is if she has some sort of accident while in your home and if you feel obliged to take her to emergency, they would be asking q's. It's then quite out of your control as to whether you get caught. I'm a big jay walker and yes, I eat on the train too :)

Not a company. I had quite a few slips of paper put under my door in my building asking for part time work. As far as i'm aware the ladies work their normal jobs then clean in their free time. I know it's not legal, so it's your choice. What area are you in? I can ask them if they would like more work? ohhhh, thanks for that - but I don't think I'd like the implications of doing this illegally :)

I've been using a couple of ladies, and they come for as long as you want them. So far they have come for a minimum of two hours and have stayed for four hours, depending on how much ironing i've left out. for 25aed/hour. The lady who looks after me now is fantastic, so she comes when i'm at work. Its great to come home to a clean house and a big pile of laundry ironed and put away! what is the company and what is her name? I want someone regular too.

It's an internal where the Dr will try open up the cervix (I think that's what they do anyway!) It can be very uncomfortable, sometimes painful. It never worked for me but it brings on labour in others oh dear, doesn't sound good. My sister in law is very shy and not at all a good candidate for such things!! The baby is getting quite big now and they're worried about him getting tooo big. Is the clean and sweep the first course of action or can they do an inducement if it's deemed too traumatic for someone like my SIL?

From JLT - just get the metro to Union, change there for metro to Bus station (may have got the name of the bus station slightly wrong) and you come up out of the metro, cross the road and the bus station is there with an air conditioned bus waiting. I can assure you it's much better than waiting in the boiling sunshine at Ibn for a bus that doesn't turn up - been there, done that, got the sunburn.....,. thanks jillp, im going to take your advice :)

I used to get the bus from Ibn Battuta - I think the last one in the morning leaves about 10.30, however it sometimes it doesn't turn up so I started getting the metro to Al Ghusais bus station and getting the E1 bus. It tends to leave when it fills up - which is very regular - so you don't have to hang around in the heat like you do at Ibn B. HTH hmmm thats not very comforting, i think it'd be a hassle to get from jlt to al ghusais - just phoned them and they said there's a bus leaving at 10.20am - fingers crossed!
