what do you mean it is the law? would you be kind and point out where does it say in the law, and which law refers to days off, for staff employed in the private homes. Other then contract and immigration rules.

I'm not sure to what or whom are u referring to? This person was in the USA, not ME.I wasn't passing a judgment. Just observing how one thing in one country, is defined and governed by law differently, in the other country. Also It could be interesting for those who intend to take staff along with them, whilst visiting home countries. Surely copy of the passport is sufficient for the immigration? I mean, what's the point, if one decides to go away or do a runner, they do it anyways. Passport or not. edited by Goose on 12/07/2013

World apart... [i'>The 30-year-old woman was hired in Kenya in 2012 and her passport was taken from her on arrival in Saudi Arabia. She was forced to work excessive hours and was paid less than she was promised and not allowed to leave, authorities said.[/i'> http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/10/meshael-alayban-saudi-princess-human-trafficking_n_3576309.html ahem, contract dispute...which brings us back to this thread, and how same thing can be seen differently in different countries.

Fee, I wish u and the girls all the best of luck. It has got to be hard, to all the suddenly realize, what u have known all the time, somewhere in the back of your head, whilst giving just one go , just one more time, hoping, u are in this alone and there is no him in this story at all. Heartbreaking. I admire your calmness in the face of storm going on. I just can not shake off the feeling that he is doing this to make u give up, pack up and leave him. To let him go, as he has no b**** to say its over. U said he has done this twice before. Very cruel. Cowardly.

Sensationalism doesn't really help the cause. Risk with this virus lays in the fact there are only few strains that were known, now there are five or so showing up around the world in different locations. Newest strain one in the Middle East. It only has been 10 years since SARS infections and science community looking up at this virus. Health care professionals and scientist always worry when one virus starts to spread human to human contact. Which means it has unlocked a new barrier so to speak. Its one thing when it spreads from animal to human, completely another when the same virus goes human to human, they evolved. They have spent enough time in the host and community of hosts. And the job of tracking the ever changing genomes by epidemiologist is astounding. And that is what it seems to be happening in SA. It is completely new variant here in the ME. The problem with this virus , it not only attacks the upper respiratory system causing terrible pneumonia, it spreads now it appears, human to human. hope it makes sense. edited by Goose on 13/05/2013

So out of the 6000 people are they all investing like this? No. If you read on other forums there are a large number of small 'investors' who have put in their life savings of 2000-3000aed. But I'm sure the UAE top quality media have just highlighted an unrepresentative few like they so often do. Maybe if you have bought into what they are telling you.....I have a nice little investment you might be interested. Send me 5000aed and I'll tell you how to get rich quick..... I absolutely see your point. It's still greed. It is still believing u could make something out of very little or nothing. It is the very thing ppl who run these scams, count on. They count on ppl being greedy and ignorant. Same like one of the posters I went deliberately many moons back in Europe, to my friends house and afterwards her FIL was holding presentation at his place. Long story short, my questions saved whole lot of ppl money and I got threats from "managers". Didn't feel sorry one bit. I absolutely despise this kind of ppl. But responsibility lies with the ppl who invest money too, in any investment, if u are not ready to loose to investment do not invest.

There are also pockets of "no air" literally, which means there is nothing for the wings to hold onto and the plane will just fall until it hits air again. There are many situations that cannot be predicted and cannot be seen on radar and weather conditions can change drastically in moments. Airlines do not send their very expensive planes into bad weather deliberately. unless there are missing parts of Earths atmosphere we don't know about, and disregard for Newton laws, equilibrium, forces, scalars and vectors, velocity...etc...( aerodynamics), basic elementary or high school math, physics there is no such thing. "air pockets" are simply a myth/lie/made up stuff. t would take a whole lot of science to be refuted in order to prove falling trough sky in vacuum.

I think you may well find that most people who come from a rural rather than city backgrounds (at least my generation and before) have been driving around their local areas since they could reach the peddles and see over the steering wheel - illegal yes, dangerous maybe, but usual, absolutely. I do think more accidents occur involving licensed drivers in cities. it would be interesting to see some statistics on this. The problem arises when unlicensed drivers are driving in city traffic. You are trying to justify something that is simply inexcusable. It's not working. She's not trying to justify it. She is trying to explain the reality that it doesnt just happen here. And just to clarify - I hate these youngsters with a passion. Our family dog was killed by a 14 year old joy rider in front of our son. They were going for a walk and wham - our dog was thrown 30 yards down the street. He was on a lead and an arms length away from my son who then spent ten minutes at the side of the road with him trying to wake the dog up with water. It happened about 12 years ago and to this day he wont have another dog because he just couldnt go through the pain of losing one again. I sympathize with you...as of lately in our community we are having quad bike riders and golf cart riders going about at all ridiculous speeds on the paths and areas where little kids were playing, just last weekend neighbor across the street was telling of golf cart riders as they were speeding down the narrow pedestrian path, where loads of kids were playing, same with quad bike riders(mostly girls it seems)...numerous emails have been sent by many of my neighbours to the management to no effect so far. they are destroying the community property, lamps run over, lawns ripped(they speed and break, make u turns right around the corner of my house), and now there is damage on some of the tiles( soft cushioned tiles for running) being ripped out of the path...i guessit wil continue no matter what till there is fatality.

What I don't get is how we have a great nozzle head attached to our hose, you know, the spray gun kind- at least we used to- the gardeners refuse to use them and pull them off all of the time. We kept reattaching it and finally just gave up. Why won't they use it?? TBH I don't like to use them either, and really don't ...DH is constantly asking "why don't you use the nozzle?", I just plain don't like any of the settings on it, and like to use my finger to adjust the spray and pressure...if that makes any sense.

I do not think now is a good time to buy. Europe may be entering the double -dip recession in the next 6-12 months. Things are NOT good and the UAE and subsequently the real estate prices will be affected. Best to rent for another year and see what the market does. Interesting...why another recession on the horizon? it's pretty simple, consumption is low, taxes are high..ppl are not spending..and manufacturing is slowing down. with en mass goods sitting in storage..this crisis is going to be generational thing...it is not going anywhere any time soon.Bubbles will continue to burst.Everyone will be affected. we avoided biggest crisis since great depression...but in order to avert the consequences, governments are easing the effects...as much as humanly is possible...Look at the Cyprus....bank run is lurking all over EU.Media did not publicise what has happened in Romania last week or so...bank of Cyprus close the branches there..ppl were trying to get their money out as fast as they could... New report on Slovenia is out, not looking great...Germans debt to GDP ratio is like 80 %... edited by Goose on 11/04/2013

Anyway, rather than discussing whether it is right or wrong, you all should try to think of a solution for companies here to protect against absconding workers. I do have to admit, until I came to live here , never ever did I hear about absconding workers or surrendering ones passport. At least not at such high rate, and making into public. Coming from the country where seasonal work in other countries is a somewhat of a norm(mostly to western Europe and countries in the vicinity), and is a generally country of high emigration for the past century or so, I assume sooner or later one wold hear such stories...that is not to say they don't happen.U do hear of ppl trying to manipulate the young and naive into s*x slavery/trade, drugs...and stealing or taking ones passport and making them virtually imprisoned. Anyhow, when ppl ask for work here or have questions regarding living and working here, first thing I warn them about is to [b'>never [/b'> give up their passport, copy of an front page should suffice if the HR wants it so bad, or to keep it on the employee file. U can not stop ppl from leaving. It all has to do with the labour system here and legal framework surrounding it. I feel conversation could venture into areas which are forbidden to be discussed on this board.

Always felt, if not explained to the kids by the age of ten, they are pretty much being set up to hear stuff from other kids and not so credible sources, or even worse, wrong info. Beebers put it much nicer then me. I'd like to recommend AAP(American academy of pediatrics) I myself found lots of information there to help me explain to my kids what was going on correctly. http://www.aap.org/en-us/search/pages/results.aspx?k=puberty and this mag : http://www.healthychildren.org/English/tips-tools/Pages/HealthyChildren-E-Magazine.aspx?nfstatus=401&nftoken=00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000&nfstatusdescription=ERROR%3a+No+local+token and http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/***-education/CC00076 and http://www.webmd.com/***-relationships/guide/talking-to-your-kids-about-*** Or any books on child psychological development would be great to read for any parent to further understand what is going "up there". edited by Goose on 31/12/2012

Also, in the interest of saving time (and because I'm almost 8 months pregnant and cannot stay on my feet too long!!), is it okay to make the pies the night before do you think or should they ideally be made at the time and served hot? I'm also doing all the sides etc so would be nice if I can do some of the stuff before hand! No, I do not feel safe. Even after over 150 k kilometers, no amount of quiet roads around here can make me less cautious then I am.Defensive driving all the way. Here probably more then anywhere I have ever driven. The road situation has actually improved over the years, especially with the dawn of speed cameras and bigger fines, since we moved here, years ago.

I'm glad it wasn't worse for you and hope you're recovered now. Our beach is on a lagoon and I've taken photos of stingrays a metre across basking just a metre or so from the water's edge. second that...few days ago I shuffled trough the edge of the water, and stingray came out right under the sand..inches from the shore..luckily it went the opposite direction.. AGAIN let me stress that they ARE NOT AGGRESSIVE!!! PLEASE do not think they are out to attack you! Shuffle your feet across the sand and yes...keep a look out for them. Marina86, I hope you get some pain relief soon!! No, I don't think they are out there to get me :D , I was just amazed how close to the shore she was ..thats all..our lagoon is full of life...crabs, fish, rays, even turtle...further down from us is nature/protected area full of birds, flamingos..we just live smack middle of it all.. :)
