I have to admit I wanted the Kitchen Aid because it was pretty, it does most things, but I want 1 unit to do the lot, and with the Kitchen Aid, I would need a seperate blender again. I've looked at the Cuisineart, and though it's pretty fantastic, and does everything, it's ugly and this is a unit that will live on my bench. Currently looking at moulineux unit which has every function i need (plus some) but given it is consciderably cheaper than the other two options, I'm reluctant to purchase it if it's not going to be any good in the long run. has anyone any feed back please? Thanks I was waiting as well for my Kitchenaid for years, it has finally arrived to our family this summer...in beutiful red colour. and I tell you, I will never give up on it or regret the buy..it is just wonderful.I do have separate blender, glass one, I got few years back.Braun chopping/mixing set was purchased when kids were babies. Also got waffle maker from Kaid...and that's it. when we bought Kaid, they gave us the extra box of Kaid utensils worth 1000 Aed...and I ditched all the cheap stuff I have been collecting for years..it washes well in dishwasher, good quality and it feels so good in the hand. we also got similar set with waffle maker just in different colour. :) edited by Goose on 15/09/2011

It seems neither ECB, IMF or German bankers or government for that matter, didn't seem to mind borrowing money to the Greeks, even when they knew report card, so to speak.Year after year after year... are they seriously gonna tell that they didn't knew in past ten years, Greeks don't pay taxes per se.Don't believe it for the moment. It was all fine and dandy. and now all of the suddenly it's a problem, bad bad Greeks, don't pay taxes, spend to much...really, no one seemd to mind at the time, especially German bankers when they borrowed money to the Greek government, and built German economy on the interest...buuu buuu we want our money back. Really?? what you sow, and all that.It goes both ways in this case...greed got all of them. and If anyone thinks Greece is in debt crisis, keep your eyes and ears on Italy. edited by Goose on 13/09/2011

we found out what works in our case, first I help brush his teeth, then he has his own time to do it, all in front of the big mirror...even if that means mess, wet shirt etc...but no more drama I have to say... our dentist said, kids need to be monitored for long period of time(till almost 10 y old) to make sure they are brushing, flossing and doing it regularly.

Besides all the reason listed, and I believe money is up there, among most important reasons, the lack of(numbers didin't work out), or made enough and mission is done...fact that u will never become citizen or permanent resident is the biggest reason. Most other places offer some kind of legal opportunity to stay and not return back to the homeland. Not the case here.Hence, UAE being so transient. edited by Goose on 09/09/2011

why should i belive you? You don't have to believe me. But why should I believe you, or Princess_I, or Sue62, or anyone who tells me that there is very little crime here? Just because they haven't experienced any crime personally and they don't read about it in the local papers all the time doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Remember, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Or do you really think the courts and jails here are full up simply with bad credit cases? I did not claim anything, i merely came across this discussion. You said crime is worst here then in the UK(per capita), i asked for proof.U say there is no proof.Media is not reporting.Officials are not reporting. There is no discussion here, you were right. There are no facts to be discussed.Just hearsay. And what reliable proof can you provide that Dubai is safer than the UK? It works both ways you know! Im not from UK to begin with. I just want to know where do you all get all this information. and i have never claimd either.

U really want ppl to buy this "story"?U use that as argument? I'd say my argument is much more reasoned than yours, which appears to be "I don't read about violent crime in the papers here, so therefore there is no violent crime here". Do not put words in "my mouth".I have never claimed that.

I assumed Goose was referring to my comments about violent crime in Dubai, not about bird flu! If she thinks that something has to be covered in the media here in order to be true, though, then it's going to be pointless trying to talk about this. You do not have an answer and have to turn to the patronizing cynicism?! Ok, do you have any official numbers, other then using argument that media is not reporting about crime in Dubai, and that Dubai is more dangerous then UK, coming from the vague friends in the high places? U really want ppl to buy this "story"?U use that as argument?

I'm sure you can work out what I mean ;) U claim Dubai is more dangerous then UK. I want numbers. Simply as that. I ask u again, otherwise it will be hearsay, where do you get your information that you claim as fact here on the board?` why should i belive you?

I don't know about theft or other crimes but sexual crimes, especially against Indian and Filipino nationals are very, very high in Dubai. I personally know someone who is actively involved in an organization that helps victims of sexual attacks and they see in excess of 50 (male and female) people every single month. I do not wish to be an alarmist but their are many, many sexual predators roaming freely in Dubai. Please do not ever believe you are safe walking around alone ANYWHERE in this country, you are NOT. and again, while i understand what you are saying...numbers please..some links on this...where do you get this information? what is many many predators...? u can get maps in USA that will tell you where sexual offenders live, what they have been charged with, their name, photo, how long they spent in jail etc.I do not expect that here, but "many many predators" is very vague, and lots of ppl will not consider this kind of information seriously.

I'm sorry for you just as I'm sorry for Sue62's Dad. But just as your perception of crime here is wrong, so is Sue62's Dad's perception of crime in the UK, and in both cases that perception is fed by the media. Mugging happens here. Stabbing happens here. Murder and rape happen here. There are many, many people in jail here on murder and assault charges. The media simply doesn't report it anywhere near as freely as in the UK. In fact, if you were to compare the incidence of violent crime in Dubai with the incidence in the UK, given the huge difference in population size you'd probably have no choice but to conclude that per capita, Dubai is more dangerous! You take my point about bird flu, yes? The risk of bird flu is [b'>exactly the same now[/b'> as it was a few years ago when the media (including here in the UAE) was full of stories about how a bird flu epidemic was going to kill millions all over the planet. So why isn't everyone scared any more? Simply because the media got bored and stopped running bird flu stories. That's the only thing that's changed. Like I said - it's all about [i'>perception[/i'>, not reality. i can reason with this....but where do you get your info in order to claim above opinion? If media is not reporting? any links? edited by Goose on 18/08/2011

Just as a comparison, we are in a Cordoba (4/5 bed + Maids) internal size bigger than any of the Mazaya A types but no pool. Since Nov our DEWA bills have been anything from 180 upto this month 700. We have had the A/C on the last month. We have no grass and all plants are potted so just use the hose for watering. we are in RI sector, and bill was 800 AED for past few months, dirham more or less...it will probably be more next month, since we have ac on. btw, if u dont mind me asking did u manage to resolve the rental fee hike? Or should we all expect the same...did you here another house has been broken in to last night?

The UAE has NEVER offered free medical treatment for expats. It was though until recently, very heavily subsidised. An expat visiting a government clinic to see a GP paid 50 AED (it is now 150 AED). Al Wasl hospital charges 200 AED for an emergency paediatric consultation with no health card, and 150 AED with a health card. A fraction of the cost of a private hospital. How many times have we heard of residents or visitors being treated at Rashid Hospital free of charge? (I know when I broke my arm and had no insurance I paid 200 AED and that included numerous trips cast on/cast off/xrays etc, BRILLIANT care) And they don't receive anything back to pay for all of this. I would never have expected them to cover a long term chemotherapy treatment. 200 AED is exactly half of what i pay for private consultations. Not really fraction, but half.Still got good care.:) Use to pay 50 Euro for consultation fee in France to our private doc.

Philly most of us come from countries where cancer treatment is not free. If I were in the US, my insurance would cover a small small portion of it, then the rest would be out of pocket. The UAE has NEVER offered free medical treatment for expats. that is not enitrely true, our DD had an accident in RAk few months back...She was transported by ambulance to the goverment hospital, triage was done, checked by the surgen, and had surgery withinh few hours.Overnight stay in hospital and relesed afterwards. They didn't charged us a dime. I'm forever grateful to the doctors and nurses at the goverment hospital. They took such a great care of our DD. And level of medical care was as good as any in Dubai. Now, if i was in EU, USA or even in my own country as forigner u do not get off free for anything, my DH had emrgency years and years back in my home country and he got charged every little bit for the surgery and stay.Luckly company reimbursed all the expense. edited by Goose on 03/05/2011

Also keeping the floors clean helps, as washing the curtain's on regular bases...also anything with large amounts of fabric, sofas , armchairs, pillows, throws, carpets etc. It is unbelievable how much those things soak up the smells.Pleasant ones, and those less.... edited by Goose on 28/04/2011

In 2008 we went to RERA and the court . Our LL gave us 2 months notice to move, I was 8 months pregnant at the time.It was our first year in Dubai. I took advice from a kind lady here on the EW and fought our LL with leagl means and won.He had to pay court fees. His rent amount was reduced for the court fees amount. He lost bc of[b'> two months notice[/b'>. All landlords if wish not to renwe or negotiate, have to give 90 days notice. End off. Why they still put two months in the contracts is beyond me, and if taken to RERA, they will most likley loose. Our was greedy, as rents went whooping 150 000 AED more, in just one year. He knew we wont pay that much up, and we had non negotiable contract. We got to stay another year, as time to renew was in Nov. 2008, and court and all the dealings finished next year March(2009). Yes, he didin't show up at all at the first hearing . It all lies, and i dont belive for one minute LL's dont't know what they are doing or what the laws are regulating the rent and contrats. Some of them keep trying it on.

Hi Goose I don't if know if you know this but their is a RAKESS (BC) School opposite the RAKESS International School. The Primary school is good my two children went their. All the teachers are from the UK. You are right majority of the children are locals but I also know that some of the classes are segregated i.e for expat and local kids due to level of learning. The head Wesley Hughes at the BC Primary is great and approachable. We left RAK only for secondary schooling, otherwise its a good place to be. Let me know if I can help? Hi Worldgirl, thanks for posting, certnaly BC school is an option too.

Ahhh... Primary, I think, is ok. DS is doing well there but he has a great teacher. One problem the school has is that many kids cannot speak English, or only speak a little. The teachers are having to balance the needs of these kids whilst making sure that those who do speak good English aren't held back. I know this is an issue in most schools but a class here can have a higher than average ratio of children who don't speak English. Looking at after-school sports activities for years 3 & 4, currently on offer is Fun Fitness for Girls. Are you living in RAK? We might be relocating there, and to be honest school seems to be the only issue right now.I'm very apprehensive, as I can not tell if we will be going forward or backwards with education. What is fun fitness for girls? thanks for the response.

Are you talking about Secondary School? They have a new Principal who has just started (this week I think). Hopefully he will get the school back on the right track as it seems to have lost its way. As for the ratio, I don't know but boys definitely outnumber girls. The school is over 50% local, maybe this has a bearing. Is the girls school you mentioned the American Academy? I know one child there who is hoping to move to RAKESS after the summer. Despite being an 'American' school it seems to actually be very much more local. It's not my school of choice but it's *ok*. I'm hoping to be out of the UAE before it gets to a critical stage.I'm not sure if you're aware that there's no Middle Years Program at RAKESS? Pupils follow a modified British (English?) curriculum before going on to either IGCSE or IB Diploma. I'm not aware of accelerated courses. What do you mean by group sports for girls? As part of the curriculum or as extra-curricular activities? During school time, secondary school pupils are segregated for PE. Thanks for your long answer, we are having real difficult time deciding, should we leave school in Dubai for school in RAK.It seems there isn't enough info out there. I'm asking about primary school. My DD is year 3 right now. Well, there isn't any other choice right now there, so everyone is really stuck with Rakees IB. I meant as in organized EC sports for girls, ie. basketball, netball and the like. I can not find for the life of me how does the school fares academically....

On what grounds have the US, UK and France go in to Libya? As a UN mission. Like they needed or wanted UN permission. They only use UN banner when it suits them, and ignore it when it suits them too And not only did AL decided on "no fly zone", it also appears everyone waited for them first..So it looks like coordinated action of all nations.I have a feeling Gaddafi has no good intentions for his ppl, especially rebels. How can this action be looked upon so negatively, i don't now..I'm glad to see world is taking action and helping one nation. edited by Goose on 20/03/2011
