i belive Hep B is mandatory in Dubai and its given at birth...older one got combined vaccine HepAB.Little one just HepB at birth. Per the US schedule my kids get the Hep vaccines at the indicated ages. don't know US schedule...in Croatia year after my older one was born, Hep B became mandatory at birth....So when she started school here, I was asked by nurse to update her Hep B vaccine...and after talking to doc , she was vaccinated with combined vaccine...little one was born in Dubai and it was done at hospital.

@LivelyTrish. Yes, indeed. Did I read somewhere that polio was also coming back as an effect of people's decisions to stop vaccination of their children, or was it a bad dream? http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1059060,00.html http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/5996274/is_polio_back.html?cat=5 http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2010/11/polio-in-india-many-steps-up-and-a-long-one-back/ http://www.mg.co.za/article/2010-12-08-polio-comes-back-to-haunt-africa and so on...no u are not "dreaming"... <em>edited by Goose on 17/01/2011</em>

Thanks a lot ladies. Good to know that research was a fraud. So, has anyone given chicken pox vaccine at the same time with MMR or later? I wouldn't give another vaccine at teh same time - I think mmr is enough on it's own. You can vaccinate against chicken pox later if you want to....... We never gave ours the chickenpox vaccine - it's not one that is routinely offered in the UK - in fact I only heard about it when moving here. Both my kids have had chicken pox and breezed through it. edited by Clairehdp on 17/01/2011 Kids doc keeps telling me that the strain in Dubai is different and carries more complications.

Just vaccinate by dithering you are putting your child at more risk. And u are basing your doom and gloom on what exactly? Unvaccinated children are at more risk than vaccinated children of contracting childhood diseases and lowering herd immunity. load of rubbish. UK schools are actually seeing the re-emergence of Measles and Mumps amongst children because parents have decided to not vaccinate. No vaccine runs at 100% efficiency, so even some of the vaccinated kids are getting it too... all because some didn't. Mine are getting theirs at the appropriate times following the UK system (13 months, 3-4yrs annnnnd... can't remember). This is one of the ones I consider very important. Chicken pox, rota virus, etc... I don't. All over the States and EU...there is emergence of these diseases unfortunately. I did gave Rota to my youngest one, after terrible experience in the family, hospitalization etc.poor little thing.

there is a link to the article that proved that the scientist involved falsified information in his study yes, and he also had a direct financial interest in scaremongering about MMR because he had shares in a company making a single measles vaccine. And don't forget the invasive and painful tests he carried out on his tiny sample of children, which were condemned as unethical and unprofessional by the General Medical Council. The whole thing was just a huge crock of BS. bottom line is, he lied and cheated, falsified the research, he is even stripped of his right to practise medicine in UK...and probably caries blood on his hands.

It doesn't matter if your spouse is not American. You are.But both mother and father have to be present when u submit the paperwork. You have to prove you lived in the States(easiest is to show your school transcripts). If you ever been divorced you have to supply your divorce decree or decrees. If u never lived in the States, procedure is completely different. U will need baby's birth certificate.Translated from Arabic. With all the stamps from all the relevant ministries. There is a service at Al Baraha hospital(this is where the Arabic birth certificates are issued) which for a fee will do the legwork.Get all the stamps, and have all the English translations done(and as many copies u are willing to pay for, probably better to get couple of them anyways) Send you husband to the the initial visit(get Arabic BC, he will need hospital report of the birth, hospital will give u that when u leave the place) and make arrangements.I went and had quite traumatic experience...We didn't know I had to have permission from my husband to ask for BC. And after u get consular report of the birth abroad( that is birth certificate) it is a good thing to fill a form for social security card. Good luck

Cupping has in fact been around for many years and has been a common treatment in Traditional Chinese Medicine since the 18th century and is a non-invasive way of treating someone. It increases local blood supply to the muscles and skin and therefore makes a perfect partner for massage and chiropractic, in trained environments. Would suggest not knocking it until you have tried it. :) so does it clear blood or brings blood to the muscle...wich one is it...or it does both?

thanks workinggirl and Nuwerra maxindubai - cupping is an alternative therapy that can treat lots of conditions a bit like accupunture. It improves energy flow and clears bad blood. and how exactly does the blood get cleared?

Let me start by saying how very sorry I am to hear this...human stupidity indeed has no limits.People do such things and hurt others for the rest of thier lives..what a legacy to leave behind..they will die alone , bitter and angry . Rejection in these terms will hurt...and I'm not sure if it goes away, I guess one would say u learn how to deal with it...ultimately they are trying to hurt thier own children for the life choices they made, but really they end up hurting everyone... my own grandmother did something similar...and I am her own blood and flesh...unfortunately history goes back to the things I don't even know or care to acknowledge at this point....why and who and what... Last book she wrote she dedicated(on the first page of the book) to my younger sister with words saying "to my only granddaughter". Just when u think u can't get more surprised in life, life turns another page...

I really don't know how do anyone calculates what is the rental value these days in Dubai. Rental prices have crashed, same as the propety prices. This cap seems like some way of showing control perhaps?! I'm more then glad to see rentals go down further. <em>edited by Goose on 14/01/2011</em>

Putting this here incase any seasoned parents can help me. My 18 month old son has taken to removing his nappy when he has done a poo. Obviously as soon as I know he's done it - I change his nappy but twice when he was supposed to be having a sleep. He's had a fun fair painting with the contents of his nappy in his room. This is absolutely disgusting. I dream of having a maid (especially someone who's abused my kindness) so that I could get them to clean the mess, but I'm the maid in my house, so I obviously have to clean it myself. Last week was the first time! As disgusting as it was, I cleaned up - laughed it off and thought memories. Today it has happened again and I'm not well (literally been hit with flu in the last 12 hours!) husband is away for almost 10 days again! AND I feel like I'm about to snap! Any tips for preventing this? I'm going to start taping his nappy! But seriously anything that could help me? my kid is doing it too..i started toilet training..in fact two days ago i found him attempting to pee in the toilet...it was all over the floor but i was so happy...my little man...hoping for diaper free kid by the end of the year...:) and yesterday he wore his undies for a few hours...and after we put on the pull ups he took them off every time he peed...went on for about 4-5 times.. <em>edited by Goose on 13/01/2011</em>

Some good points raised but I think I will leave it for another six months or if she asks between then, I will tell her. I think children aren't children for long enough these days and whilst she believes in Santa and the tooth fairy etc I will enjoy her wonderful innocence for as long as possible. edited by Nobbles on 13/01/2011 IMHO you are fooling yourself(even that I can see why you would want to hang on to the "innocence"), u can't protect them forever...they depend on what they receive from thier own parents, especially at that age...if u have issues talking about it, mb she has issues asking u the Q.Just a thought..not trying to have a go.. u might be surprised how much she knows if u ask her openly about it...sometimes u have to be the one having to start conversation's.

Mark my words, 2011 is going to be the year of inflation - this time next year, prices are going to be much, much higher than they are now. There are two causes - one is oil prices continuing to hover around $90 dollars a barrel, and perhaps climbing to $100. All prices in the world factor in oil prices in one form or another, so high oil prices leads to high prices all around. Second, the way the US and European economies dealt with the global economic crisis - by loosening monetary policy and in some cases, printing money - rather than allowing for deflation will ultimately lead to *inflation* around the world. The big problem with that is that salaries for ordinary citizens will take a while to adjust to the higher global prices so the short and mid-term effect will be a lower quality of life and less buying ability for people like you and me. im thinking along the same lines...this whole crisis is far from over... and not to foregt two other housing markets...china and india..waiting to see baloon deflating there too.. <em>edited by Goose on 11/01/2011</em>

[b'>I don't mind the price going up - and agree that it was pretty cheap before (and still isn't that expensive in the grand scheme of things here), but to increase a price by 50% is a bit steep. Imagine if rent or petrol just went up by 50% overnight! In fact don't - it's not worth thinking about. ;) [/b'> Don't need to imagine, rents DID go up by 50% a few years ago and petrol has been increased by 30% on different occasions, over here they don't go by percentages, they think what's the maximum we can get, oh ok thats what we'll charge... agree with this...customer here gets the full tab, whatever someone thinks market will bear or can get away with...ppl ask me all the time what is the best thing to shop for while here...and i disappoint them every time...since there are very few things here that cost less then back home... <em>edited by Goose on 11/01/2011</em>

I think people become desperate around the holidays, even in Dubai. My blackberry was stolen from Ibn Battuta a little over a week ago. My husband got me a purse I can strap around myself now so that I can carry it and a toddler! So sorry to hear about your wallet. Hopefully the other ladies here will see this thread and be very careful. holidays are usually best times for ppl who steal...lots on your mind, lots shopping to do...not paying attention...kids with you since school is off...distractions ....very much "normal" high incidence around holiday times.IMHO

I did mentioned few days ago in a different thread...but food prices are rising...combined with huge grain loses last year...Florida being hit with frost and bad weather(fruit, juices, veg)... so did the price of sugar around the world(bad weather, not so great harvests)...therefore price of sweets, drinks et all is rising too...combined total effect will be pretty ugly. I'm afraid we are about to see food prices going up and up ...recent hike of soft drink has not much to do with shops in dubai trying to make more money...IMHO <em>edited by Goose on 11/01/2011</em>
