I hope your cat is home safely soon banana. I agree with others on the main board... - call the police - visit DM every other day (take photos and microchip/ID information with you) - contact all of the vets and Feline Friends, DARC etc with photos - offer the maid a reward for concrete information People have strong opinions on cats. Regardless of her opinion, this woman had no right to do this! Be sure every pet owner in the area knows exactly what she did! Stoopid woman...what a way to introduce yourself to the community.

But whats the connection between coffee and cellulite?? As mentioned below, caffeine *can* contribute to weight gain by increasing cortisol and insulin levels (speed up aging and increase fat storage). Since caffeine is a diuretic, it dehydrates the body which increases fluid retention in the fat cells...dehydrated skin makes existing cellulite more apparent. Caffeine impedes blood circulation...less efficient blood circulation to the skin = less healthy looking skin = more obvious cellulite Then of course there are those who reckon your cellulite will disappear if you rub the affected area with coffee grounds....

I wouldn't hesitate to take him out for a family holiday, what he learns with you will mean far more in the long run. How long is he going to stay? Sounds like you already have your opinion about all this though ;) just need some encouragement to stand up for your views - maybe compromise on half the stay? Any child should be fever free for at least 24 hours before you even consider sending them to school. How can he learn anyway when he is feeling miserable and just wants to cuddle with his mom? Totally agree with you Aryanwynn! Unless a child is doing major exams, there's no reason why they shouldn't have amazing experiences with their families. Young children in particular may be more upset by a missing parent than by missing a few days of school while the whole family is together. On sending a sick child to nursery or school, irresponsible at all levels! Good for you orchard. I hope your husband listens to you and sees common sense.

How long are you going to be away, imolinar? If it's only for a short time, I'd say your little one would be perfectly happy in something like a Maclaren umbrella folding stroller (like the Quest). They are a lightweight, true one-handed open & close, reclinable, safe, comfortable and robust little stroller. Ours has been on numerous flights either handed over at the gate or checked in and is still fully functional. When your baby is older, you'll get lots of use out of it as it's such a convenient stroller style to have. You may find you are told that you must check the Quinny in anyway. I think if the plane is particularly full, the staff do not allow bulkier buggies to the gate. Many, many times I handed the stroller over at the gate, usually promised that it would be given back at the gate during stop-overs...it never was. Not once, with any airline in any airport. In fact, I've never had it given back to me at the destination airport gate either. I've had to collect it from over-size baggage every time. If you have a lengthy stop anywhere, a soft structured carrier like an Ergo is worth its weight in gold. In fact, over the years I've often taken my little one in the Ergo rather than pushing a stroller...two hands free, baby sleeps soundly and handy pockets to carry all of the 'stuff' you need. http://store.ergobaby.com/ - the Ergo is available in Dubai too.

Oh...give DKC a call for an estimate on costs of export to Aus. They are always happy to help. Whatever their costs, add vaccinations and rabies tests etc before travel (vet quote?) plus a minimum of $55 on entry to Aus Quarantine and $39 per day for 30 days (or longer depending on when rabies titre test is done etc).

I forgot to say earlier that I have flown during the first trimester (and 2nd and 3rd trimesters) of all of my full term pregnancies...more than once during two of them. The two miscarriages I had happened while firmly on the ground. I agree with Anon...research suggests if a miscarriage is going to happen, it's going to happen no matter where you are at the time. My last one happened in a shopping centre. :( I'm not going to suggest people don't go shopping while pregnant. ;)

Hi Aryanwynn. :) I love seeing people really do their research before committing to a pet. :D Firstly...what type of terrier are you looking at? While I like to think the biggest part of a dog's temperament and behaviour are set in the way they are raised, there's also a pretty major genetic component in terriers. If you're thinking of a Jack Russell for example (my favourite :) ), I really think it would be very, very difficult to raise one successfully in an apartment. All of the other small terriers I can think of are long-haired (Aus silky etc) but all possibly far more suitable for apartment living. So...if it's a JRT, I'd wait until you settle elsewhere or move to a villa with a garden. ;) If your family really can't wait (and I get that too!) then your most ethical choice is to source one from a good, ethical breeder overseas. When we thought we were going to get a JRT (my hubby also very opinionated on the topic!) it took me months to find a breeder I liked the sound of, and then she put me through the hoops before even agreeing to put me on the waiting list for one of her dogs...LOVE that! Essentially, a good (ethical) breeder will have great reservations about selling to someone they have never met, and even greater reservations about sending a puppy overseas. If you find someone willing to ship a dog next month, they don't care about their pups and probably don't look after their animals well and probably don't really focus on breed stock genetics. PLEASE do not buy from any UAE pet shops!!!!!!! Or that HIDEOUS Europuppy!!!!! If you want to source a local young dog needing a good home, advertise everywhere! Dubizzle & let all the vets know etc. Of course, that's a great option (lucky dog to get you!) but then you're back to not knowing the dog's history or genetics. Good luck A. There's a lucky, lucky pup out there somewhere for you.

Have you had her to the Dr nip? A couple of days fever could be viral...going on longer than a week suggests a possible secondary infection. We're going through this with my youngest at the moment. 24 hrs on antibiotics and she's almost her usual, bouncy self. yes....she is on day 3 of the antibiotics...thats why I can't understand it. Her fever should have broken by now Hmmm,,,what are you giving her for the fever? Is she 'just' hot, or is she miserable too?

Bug? Hmmm... DD has been a champion sleeper since she was born. In the cot, awake, asleep in minutes, no fuss. Sleeps for hours and has been sleeping through the night since about 4 months. She's 5 months now. Last night she went to bed at 7 as normal, woke up at 8.30 and was awake screaming till 1.30am. Then awake again at 5. What's up with that? She felt a bit warm but nothing dramatic :\:. Poor poppet. Now, I'm pretty cautious with medicines, but we had a similar pattern with Charlotte when she was just a little younger than your wee one. A friend suggested a 'just in case' dose of Calpol before bed and she slept through the night! It could have been that she was over whatever was bugging her, it could have been the Calpol. I don't know, but it might be worth a shot? After all, they need their sleep so their little bodies can get better.

There are also some textile shops on the gold souq side if you want to start off there and treat her to a 1dh abra ride across the Creek Thats a great idea! We'll have a very active toddler with us though... would we get her stroller onboard? No-wouldn't try it-but you could catch the water taxi from Baniyas (sp) which is further towards Deira City Centre to the Textile souq for 4 dhms per person-you still get to cross the Creek in safe enclosed comfort rather than clutching the sides of an abra.! Much to my water-safe husband's horror, we took my toddler son and buggy across the creek on an abra. I had done it many times before so was quite relaxed about it. As my husband's first experience, he was looking for life jackets! People take little ones across all the time, but you need to move quickly and have very stable sea legs while getting on and off. ;) To be honest, I'm glad I had done the journey a few times on my own before venturing on with a child.

A healthy weight according to who though Freckly? All of those charts about height and weight etc are based on gross generalisations across a population and do not take into account our actual build or body type. According to the 'rules', I should be around 58kg at my height (5'6"). Some years ago I worked hard, got quite fit and down to 62kg. When I look back now at photos taken then, I looked positively skeletal! Ditch your scales Freckly and go by how you look in the mirror and feel in your clothes.

Hi there pilatesmama, congratulations on your pregnancy! I don't want to worry or scare you, but I just suffered a miscarriage DURING a flight, was only 5 hours, but started feeling weird and cramping on the flight, then bleeding. As soon as we landed, I had to go straight to hospital and miscarried there, was horrific. I know the risks are low and there is no "evidence" and maybe this is because I am trying to find reasons why this happened (I was a first timer too), but I wouldn't take the risk. I felt weird with the cabin pressure and really sick and fatigued on the plane. I was 6 weeks gone and am utterly devastated. I would hate anyone else to go through what happened to me (esp being in a foreign hospital for the D&C procedure), so I would stay safe and not fly. Just my advice, hope you're well and the pregnancy is OK. edited by The Dangerous Blonde on 08/04/2012 I'm so very sorry for your loss. Having recently had another miscarriage myself, I understand some of the pain you might be feeling. One thing I learnt after my first miscarriage is that we really need to accept that these things 'just happen' and that there's usually no rhyme or reason to it. I lost my first baby after a frightening home invasion and the major stress that followed in the next few days. I believe with all of my heart that the miscarriage was going to happen anyway (just as it did with my fifth pregnancy). At first, I beat myself up about not double checking window locks etc. Some good friends and a supportive doctor reminded me of the statistics and I accepted there was nothing I could have done to prevent that loss. Of course your miscarriage was traumatic. :( Please try not to blame the flight or your decision to fly. There is no evidence that flight in early pregnancy is dangerous. Don't beat yourself up over something that was going to happen no matter where you were that day...beating yourself up is just counter-productive in the long process of healing yourself. Take care.

The thought of driving to Cairns from Brisbane fills me with horror. It is a seriously long way and parts of the trip are ridiculously boring. I highly recommend flying. ... It is a LONG drive...minimum 20 hours on the road. More like 25-30 with meal and rest stops. It's a great drive if you have a week or so and can stop off along the way to do things. It's a long, long, boring highway though if just driving it to get from A to B. Good deals on domestic airfares can be had too. It might almost be possible to fly the family cheaper than petrol and car hire for the drive!

I also meant to say it's very important to do your homework on daschunds. I know very little about them, but I do know they are well-known as a breed with potentially dreadful health issues....back trouble especially. Finding the very best of breeders would give you a chance at getting a pup that will not have significant pain and huge vet bills in its future. Why not contact a breed-specific rescue group in your home country? They probably have a waiting list for pups but that would be the 'easier' ethical option of sourcing a puppy. Of course, good genetics not guaranteed.

Gosh...if losing her 'friends' simply because she's too good looking is what's actually happening, then I'd suggest she's just making friends with the wrong crowd in the first place. I don't think I'm being harsh on myself when I can honestly say that the vast majority of my friends are way more attractive than I am, and I never feel threatened by any of them. :D Of course, I can't help but wonder what her behaviour is really like. Even if I thought I was hotter than hot, I simply can't imagine myself approaching a newspaper about that level of hotness and its disadvantages! My best looking friends are wonderful people, and don't seem to be aware at all that they are incredibly attractive. As far as I know none of them have had bottles of bubbly sent to the table or cab fares paid for by complete strangers either. greenish...I've heard this before from you about europuppy and you've never managed to produce any evidence that they are puppy mills...I've visited one of the breeders in hungary and they most definitely weren't mills While I'm not 100% sure who you are (ie previous user name), all I ever say on the topic is that I believe there are 'degrees' of puppy mills. Sure, there are those that make the news because they keep far too many breeding dogs and pups in appalling conditions without adequate medical treatment, quality food etc. I also think anyone who breeds for the wrong reasons and will sell to the first buyer is running a 'puppy mill'. Some more gently call them a 'backyard breeder'; some will justify their existence saying that they 'love' their dogs and pups and provide well for them while in their care and they are giving the people what they want. In other words, they are breeding a particular breed because they have access to an entire male & female and there is a market for the pups. (ie, puppy mill...churn 'em out for the masses) If breeders like these hand pups over the Europuppy, that makes Europuppy an agent for the puppy mills. At any one time, Europuppy has many, many purebred dogs available to the first person with the cash. I have made enquiries numerous times about buying one of their pups. I have written enquiries that would stop any rescue centre from even considering me as a potential 'customer', yet europuppy has been happy to proceed as soon as we sort the payment. They do not give a hoot about who takes their dogs...that makes them unethical and I feel I MUST discourage anyone from supporting their business. Why did you buy from them? Because they had your chosen breed available and it was easy? That makes them unethical. Until people have to work for the right to own a dog, dogs will be treated by humans as disposable. I'd like to think that people who spend a huge amount of money on a dog will look after it for life. Sadly, the huge numbers of expensive, purebred dogs dumped at shelters internationally suggests another story. Like Chocs has said below, I'm also not a fan of breeding in general. I think dogs should be bred for two reasons only...to save a rare breed (and even then it's questionable) or to breed out bad/negative characteristics. Too many breeds have dreadful genetic flaws. Those flaws are the result of trying to achieve ridiculous kennel club standards or unethical breeders choosing poor breeding stock. officechick...apologies for keeping off your original topic. I always have the animals' best interests at heart. I hope you do find the puppy you're looking for. PLEASE don't buy locally...there are no good breeders (of any dog breed) that any of us have ever been able to find. Even if you find one, as I said before, it's illegal to buy an animal from a private breeder in the UAE. edited by Green-ish on 04/04/2012

Goldeelocks is right about local breeders. There are NO legal, ethical breeders of any breeds other than the local saluki's in the UAE. To buy from a private breeder in the UAE is illegal anyway. Pet store pups are almost definitely from international puppy mills. PLEASE do not buy from Europuppy...definition puppy mill agents!! If you have your heart set on a daschund, please source an ethical breeder overseas. An ethical breeder will make you work for the pup. If a breeder is happy to send the next available pup to you without putting you through the third degree, please don't buy from them and encourage their unethical business. Keep in mind you will not be able to import a pup until it is at least four months old. It may be best to source one in your home country and have family or friends happy to take it in and begin human socialisation while it is prepared for travel.

Hi special. That sounds like a pretty amazing trip! Have you been to Australia before? You're planning on covering a LOT of ground in that time. ;) Check local airlines and price flights Sydney-Gold Coast direct. If you don't want to stay in Brisbane, it can be much cheaper to fly to the GC. I agree with the others that five days on Fraser is a long time if you're not going for the whole bush camping experience. Definitely go with an organised tour. Driving on Fraser can be challenging 4WDing even for those experienced on the sand. Just getting to and from the resort off the ferry can be treacherous if you don't read the tides correctly. ;) Fraser is STUNNING, so don't miss out on it. Last time we went to Fraser (pre-children!) we bush-camped for ten days and it was heaven!! Amazing beach fishing to be had. :D If you drive GC to Hervey Bay (about 5 hrs) and spend a night as Chocs suggested, you could do a whale-watching tour. They start in August. I live on the Sunshine Coast and, gorgeous as it is, I'd go with your plan to stay somewhere on the Whitsundays. You MUST see Whitehaven Beach...hands down the most beautiful beach I have seen anywhere in the world. :) You can stay in Airlie Beach and do day trips (book them once you arrive and any of the bazillion booking agents) or pick an island and laze your days away. Day trips out on the reef are brilliant. Snorkling and hand-feeding the fish in crystal clear water...*sigh* Fraser and Whitsundays are two very different and beautiful experiences. Sydney will be cold...windy and cold, but lovely! edited by Green-ish on 02/04/2012

Looking at toyota as well yes, but I need airbags everywhere and in the landcruiser that only comes as [b'>top option I think, then that takes us up to around 200k[/b'> which is a tad much. We will check again, we looked at them all 2 yrs ago and got what I have as it beat even the volvo in safety several years running. I know I dont want a volvo for sure.... Want 7 seats and good AC, wasnt to keen on how the Pajero handles on the road and after my touraeg I think it will be a big down trade, but lets see.... They have them in red which would be nice, lol That is a lot of money for a car Purple...but as a wee comparison, you can't get a new [u'>base model[/u'> Landcruiser on road for under AED288K here now! 200K is still 'cheap' for a genuinely brilliant, safe, reliable vehicle with excellent UAE resale value. I'm no expert, but I think it could work...could you have a variety of toys available so your friend can take a couple away each time he visits and put out two new things each time? They love chasing those little balls with a bell in them, batting little cat-nip scented toys, those little balls you can put dry food in and some falls out as they play with it etc. You'd just need to be sure they are safe...no strings to get caught up in etc. Maybe grow a few pots of cat grass before you go away and your friend can put those out too for her to chew on. Do you have a climbing tree? Your cat will need to have somewhere to climb and scratch...might as well be a slightly expensive, sturdy cat tree rather than a very expensive lounge or curtain. ;) I'm sure it will be fine. Be sure your friend has your vet's contact info and access to money in case the vet is needed. edited by Green-ish on 31/03/2012

To be honest, it's not that hard to entertain them. The crew will give her a little pack with colouring pencils and a soft toy etc; if she's even vaguely interested in TV you can kill short spurts of time with the great in-flight entertainment system; take her for a few walks up the aisle so you can both stretch your legs; my kids love a scrap book, crayons and stickers and that keeps them going for hours; a new non-noisy toy and picture book are a good idea too. If you have an Android phone, there's a great app for toddlers called "Toddler Lock"...just pretty shapes, drawing and music and they can't accidentally get out of it and delete all of your photos. ;) Not sure if it's available for i-anything. My biggest tip is to be clear from the word go that she is to be sitting and strapped in at all times. Just like a car seat, she may fight it, but it makes life SO much easier (and safer) if she learns early how to travel on a plane. Meals for children are generally laden with over-processed, sugary rubbish so be sure to hide the little box when the meal comes and have your own healthy snacks on hand for after main course. I cannot stress enough...spare clothes and three times as many nappies as you think you'll need!!! I hope you won't need them, but take it from me, they'll get diarrhoea or the vomits when you are least prepared and that makes for a very unpleasant flight! ;)

Ours used to go missing in DSO...until I found them hidden in a park garden bed, lined up as a mattress for the gardeners on their afternoon break!! cheeky buggers :D Lol...I know! :D They also had one of my kids' old inflatable toys (pulled out of the bin!) rolled up as a pillow. Quite comfy in that garden bed really!
