I second the mussendam. You get to cross the border, plus it's a stunning area of Oman. The drive to Muscat is long and boring

Google solar pool chillers. It's a sort of fountain that helps chill the pool. I am sure you can buy them off amazon for around 700 AED and have them sent here directly. There was a post on here last year about them.

Think only the villas are available at the moment as the main hotel is still under refurbishment prior to reopening as Hilton. Lots of construction still going on at the moment. I believe the Waldorf Astoria and the Al Hamra Hilton will be opening soon

We are just in the process of providing driving lessons to our housekeeper and I am keen to ensure he is adequately covered for healthcare before he hits the UAE roads. We have had basic health cover with RSA in the past but the cover is pretty basic. Does anyone have decent health insurance cover for their domestic staff, if so, with which provider? Also, can anyone tell me exactly what cover you with the government health card? Thanks. G

Just pay on-line on the RTA site or through the RTA Office here. Fines from Dubai and all Emirtaes show in the same place. Just chosse the fine you want to pay, click and and pay and it will disappear from the records. Here speaks the voice of experience ....... edited by Grumpy on 03/12/2012

Take it to Mulberry in MOE and they will send it back to the factory in Somerset to be repaired by hand with original Mulberry parts. I have had a few zips repaired this way on vintage pieces and also on luggage that has been damaged by the airlines. Excellent service, reasonably priced and back within 10-14 days.

Nothing required. Our housekeeper goes home to Sri Lanka a couple of times a year. We don't need to do anything.

please advice i need to get a nany for my daughter in Dubai, any ideas how can i find one and what the price? ... thanks There are dozens of threads on the best ways to and not to find a maid. It's personal choice from options such as classified on this site, gulf news, personal recommendations, via an agency etc. Costs are roughly 6,000 dhs visa, 2,000 dhs deposit, 500dhs medical, 200 dhs UAE ID card, so a basic starting cost of around 9,000 dhs plus additional fees if you decide to use an agency for recruitment. You will then need to provide salary, accommodation or accommodation allowance/transportation, healthcare and annual flight home. The above fees are paid annually with the exception of the deposit which is a one off cost. edited by Grumpy on 19/11/2012

Am I the only one thinking there is something going on here with the Husband and the g a y friend? edited by Grumpy on 19/11/2012 edited by Grumpy on 19/11/2012

Moon By Mazoon. They are based in AUH, but deliver to Dubai. Great quality and they make to your own design, personalise by adding names etc. Google Moon by Mazoon. Think they also have a Facebook page. Highly recommend them. Great customer service.

Can't help you, but you need to be aware that DEWA bills can skyrocket without warning, and it's nearly always villas that are worst hit. That's why DH refuses to live in a villa, especially one with a pool. They can become a real liability for utility bills. Thats a rather sweeping generalisation......

I'm sorry but am I not the only one that would think an implant would not normally be covered by insurance? Most implants are cosmetic, thus not covered, except perhaps after an accident.

Captain America why keep flying with them if you spend so much money on business class or first if you've never had a good flight. I know I wouldn't fly again with any airline I that happened all the time. But in saying that I have flown with emirates to many destinations for 10 years and find they are the best out of all airlines I have flown with. Including their prices. Quite!!!

Why not employ a dog loving maid or house boy? That way your pooch has companionship during the day and no need to worry about last minute travel plans if the helper lives in.

There's another hospital right behind ASD but I don't think it's open yet... Maybe that will be better... That is the Saudi German Hospital behind ASD. We live up the street. They are open now. Disappointing to read the bad experiences though as we were hoping they were good as they are so close. I guess Suzie123 is referring to the Zuleka hospital, right behind ASD..... I would assume you would know this if you live up the street as you mentioned........!!!!

Bel Hasa Excellent service, always come on a Sun and Thurs and always at the same time. We recently had issues with the heater and they came and fixed straight away. Very happy with them. Edited to add: Never seen them use a hose to do anything with the pool, isn't that what the pump does? edited by Grumpy on 13/04/2012

Current housekeeper with us for 5 years and we have increased salary every year - we did 15% for a couple of years when inflation was at it highest, now we normally do around 6% and then round it up to the nearest 50 AED to make the salary a round figure.
