correct. Only certain countries you can check in on-line with RB. Dubai isn't one of them. You can reserve a seat in your booking and then check in at the airport

I may be wrong, but I think you will find it difficult to find a live out maid who could report for work in the ranches by 7am. You will need to provide a transport and accommodation allowance.

There are so many villas though in the 200k plus market, makes me wonder where these higher allowances are being paid. It's also becoming rarer for companies to provide housing allowances upfront in a lump sum. It's often now paid as part of monthly salary, which protects companies' cashflow. Really?

we take our dog to the beach at the end of fairmont residence on the palm... its not a beach beach but it has sand and the sea- he LOVES it. I second this, great area, we used it daily when we lived on the palm

There are deserted sandy places all over dubai, otherwise the desert. You can drive to Ajman, UAQ or RAK, no problem taking your dogs on the beach there.

Yes I do, however, can't help thinking if you are applying for a position that requires this experience, you should perhaps know how to put a lesson plan together. IMO of course.

I agree. Given up on repairs with miele. I just buy a new vacume from them every two years, it's cheaper. our housekeeper can just about keep them taped together for 2 years. The miele in our house in London is over ten years old and still going strong, am on my 3rd here in 5 years

Have your family bring from the UK. You cannot buy quality here, as they don't contain alcohol. Fortnum and Mason is the best, otherwise marks and Spencer luxury range. Just add extra cognac to serve. Yum

Go to HR Direct - visa services. Fill application and print contracts from attached link. Keep a note of the reference number Send maid for medical (details and documents listed in HR Direct) Once you you have the medical results, take maids passport, 3 photos, 3 copies of completed and signed contract, copy of DH passport/visa and maids medical result to employee service centre - visa services. Submit under the previously generated reference number, and voila, track on line and you will get visa back within 10 - 15 days. Maid will be added to dependents so you can book tickets etc. EK will complete all the typing etc, very easy and everything detailed under HR direct - visa services.

All venues in RAK serve alcohol as usual. If we are in town we always go up to our house there on dry nights along with half of Dubai as it is business as usual in the restaurants, bars and clubs. Even during Ramadan, they serve alcohol during the day in all the venues in Al Hamra, only the liquor stores close.

We pay AED 400 per month for pool cleaning. They come twice a week and do a good job. Pool always clean, and they have an emergency service for out of hours. Housekeeper and myself do the garden, as haven't come across any gardening companies that actually know what they are doing.

We have a weekend house in RAK and lived there for 6 weeks last year whilst we were between houses in Dubai. We were commuting the other way to you, however, we found it really hard and used to stay in an hotel 1 - 2 nights a week in Dubai to ease the commute. Lots of people do it though, many of our neighbours in RAK commute daily to Dubai, so it's personal choice

We use the auto-pay service for all our accounts, so no need to worry, just register your debit card and they deduct the amount due on the due date. We always seem to get a pile of bills every 3 - 4 months which is ridiculous.

Yes of course. Everyone does. You are letting a stranger into your house. You must keep some form of security. Eh, no they don't! I certainly don't and never would. I trust someone in my home, and more importantly to take care of my animals, so I figure I can trust them to look after their passport. It's personal choice, however as we all know, it is illegal to hold a passport, despite that fact that's it's a common occurrence here.

Waitrose etc have been put on hold idefinatly, due to the legal issues between IFA and Nakheel. The gym and pool will become members only, so even living on the GM you will have to pay membership. We love our place here, however, have decided to cut our losses and move out, we just cannot deal with no facilities

This will sound bizarre, but hey - Crete! It was many years ago and I was booked to go on a 21 day cruise with a friend. A couple of days before I had severe food poisoning and wasn't able to travel. When I felt better after a few days, I called AMEX concierge and asked them to get me on a flight and a hotel that evening. I have traveled the world, but something about that trip just sticks, I loved it x

It's really easy. Go on line under the home office site.. Call and make the appt for when you will be in the UK. Drop off documents and payment at appointment time, collect new passport on same day within four hours. I went back after two hours and it was ready. So easy and was around seventy pounds, including extra pages and fast track service.

We were going to have this done on one of our dogs a couple of years ago, through Dr. Renata at Modern Vets. The eye specialist flies in regularly from South Africa to work on the royal families animals. Unfortunately our old boy passed away before we could get the surgery done

We have just returned from our last walk of the evening (early morning) and Betty completed her first walk on her trainer lead, she was amazing and followed her brothers at all stages, all the way home. Ladies, raise a glass to Moo Moo, she saved an amazing princess that deserves a second chance xxx

Ok, in Dubai you pay a fee (around 6k) plus a 2k deposit which is refundable when the visa is cancelled. The fee in Sharjah is one year of the maid salary which has never been refundable.

Forget it. We moved into Golden Mile last year, and whilst the apartments are lovely, nothing is finished and all facilities, along with planned stores including waitrose are on-hold indefinitely. Whilst I hate moving, we are going. Personally, I think the beach clubs on the shoreline are tatty and not well managed either. The few shops are uselless with exception of milk and honey and the florist which are both nice and offer decent quality

The quick answer is no. Not allowed to transfer points to anyone else. If you look on the website and go to frequent questions, it will tell you. Good luck Since when? We have frequently done this and I don't see anything on the FAQ page that says you can't.

Been trying all day to get through to skywards just to ask a question Can you transfer your skywards miles to another person? Anyone know the answer? TIA Yes you can. Call the 'call centre' and ask to gift miles, just need the other persons skywards account number and the transfer is instant.

Hi Clair, It really difficult to determine or tell what exactly you are expecting, each department in Emirates and Danata have it's own benefits and this goes to the salary - sure-... they have the Grade system, which means grade 1 is less than 2, grade2 is less than 3 and so on... You said you are going to be in the English department ??? is it a teaching job? assuming so, if it is, then you will be grade 7, that entitle you for benefits, like free emirates clinic for you DH and children - not sure about how much you will be entitled for child(ren) tuition fees payed by the company, how much you will be entitled for the accommodation allowance: a) if you decided to take the money, you will take it every 6 months or b) if you got the company provided accommodation, which you don't pay DEWA at all, enjoying the free mind of watching the bill :D, in this case you need to provide how many ppl will be living with you ( you, DH,how many child whether inside uae or out of uae, house maid, mother or father) then as per this they will provide you with apartment .... initially as grade 7 you are entitled for 2 bedroom apartment, but if you have a big family, they will give you 3 or 4 bedroom apt) again I insist that every department have different entitlement for it's employee, and the entitlement for the grades still defer. So good luck and hope this post give you some hints about what to expect. You are quite correct in that the benefits are grade specific, however, a grade 7 is not enititled to use the Emirates clinic, and no tuition fees are paid for a corporate grade 7. Also, a grade 7 is only able to take a one bed apt with or without family. OP, you may want to find out which grade you are applying for as it could be 7 or 8, 8 has many more benefits, which increase into managerial grades 9. 10 and into VP, SVP etc
