Hello Hitch! I'm a nurse so I am a bit familiar with these. If for travel, you need a Hepatitis A (infection from food) and Hepatitis B (infection from blood and bodily fluids) vaccines. And then there's malaria shots for travel to Africa and other places with mosquitoes carrying the virus. Then for regular safety vaccine, get a pneumonia shot (it's good for 5 years) if you're late 40s and above to guard yourself from pneumonia. A HPV vaccine too if you're not middle-aged. That's it hope that helps!

Yes you can and it's legal. I wonder why they put that on the visa, though when everyone does it anyway. During my medical to renew my Emirates ID I went with the other wives from my husband's company and they're all sponsored by their husbands too. So no worries. My company also knows it, as long as there's a no objection certificate and for freezones they will issue a certificate of non-sponsorship.

There's one at Moroc Bar and Lounge at Movenpick Ibn Battuta Gate. There's another one at The Palace Downtown (beside Souk Al Bahar). It's on the second floor. I forgot the name of the place but the terrace is a great place to have drinks there. Outside, there's a fantastic view of the Burj Khalifa. Their sangria is also the best I've ever had so far. Another downtown option is also at Mint Leaf of London (DIFC). They have a ladies night there at The Lounge.

I don't think it's a nationality thing. More like an etiquette and hygiene thing. How can they do that. And agree with food waste. There was an article yesterday by one of the news agencies about how much food is wasted in Dubai alone daily. This must be one of the reasons!

You might also want to check out opportunities at Studio City (right across Arabian Ranches). Would be more convenient for you compared to Media City.

I bought one last week from Lakeland MOE. Has three different blades for different thickness', suckers to keep it on the work surface, etc. It's called a Spirali I think. Ooh, interesting! I was there last week and didn't see one. Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough. How much is it? I hope they still have it when I go back!

desertcart.ae sells spiralizers that are handheld. I'm not sure about these local online stores though. They might come unsturdy or the blades aren't sharp enough at all. Am on the lookout for these as well for some guilt-free "pasta". If any of you ladies have had experience ordering from here, do let me know! I want to get one asap.

I love this recipe that I got from Marie Claire Fast Food (Donna Hay), it's relatively quick, simple and tasty. Pasta with shredded chicken and fried basil 450g fresh pasta (or your normal dry pasta will do) 1 tablespoon olive oil 3 chicken breast fillets halved 2 tablespoons of olive oil extra 1/4 cup of fresh basil leaves 125g fetta, chopped Cracked black pepper I also add garlic and a little chilli to mine when I'm cooking the chicken. Cook the pasta until al dente While pasta is cooking, heat oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Cook the chicken for 2-3 minutes on each side or until cooked through. Remove, cool slightly and shred the chicken. Add the extra oil to the pan and heat. Add basil and cook for 2 minutes or until crisp. To serve, drain pasta and toss with the chicken, feta and pepper. Pour over the oil and dried basil and serve with lemon wedges. Yum! edited by Thunderbird on 07/05/2015 Sounds fantastic! Adding this to my to-try list! Ladies, the other night I made a quick dinner with my Crockpot and it only required three ingredients. It's cubed mushroom steak (it makes its own gravy!): You will need: Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup (one can would suffice but I like a lot of gravy so I added two) Cube Steak or Pot Roast French Onion Soup Mix (happened to have one packet in the pantry) 1. Throw your meat in the crockpot. 2. Dump half of the condensed cream of mushroom soup. 3. Sprinkle the onion soup mix evenly on top of the beef. 4. Dump the remaining cream of mushroom soup over the onion soup mix. Set on low for about 8 hours. Make mashed potatoes and it will go so well with the cubed steak's gravy.

I had a million cut up cucumbers and when I wanted a smoke, I munched on cucumbers - that helped me Ahh yes, they say you crave for something to nibble on once you quit smoking. Cucumbers are delicious and also practically zero calories! Also, good job on quitting!

Hello! Nope, unfortunately there is no way to expedite a passport renewal. The last option of an expiring passport is to get an extension. If the extension period is over then it's pretty much no travel for her then. It's also the obligation of the passport holder or in the nanny's case, for her employer to have checked the passport first before booking the nanny's ticket. Just a thought.

I grew up with maids in the house. Now that I am the queen of my own home I'm holding off one until I have a kid/kids. Don't particularly like the feeling of having to think about a stranger in the house. Also, my mother had a lot of maids come and go, some of which steal bits and pieces from our home. Would drive me crazy to worry about things like that all the time. Also, not all maids can cook or would pass the quality we set anyway unless one is a professional cook. Besides, I'm a bit of a control freak and picky when it comes to meals. Thanks for the suggestions, ladies! The other day I tried a cubed steak in mushroom sauce slow cooked with my new Crockpot. So ecstatic to come home without worrying about what to have for dinner. I'm newly married, still trying to work around a schedule that fits working fulltime and running a small household (it's just me and my husband) in an apartment. edited by gryffindornerd6 on 07/05/2015

Do you drive and hold a license from your country? If your country is one of those listed that has the privilege to convert to UAE license, I think it would be more convenient for you to get a license. Then rent a car on a monthly basis. That's just a suggestion though. I used to live out of Dubai and traveled about three hours on the road to get to work and go back home. The travel was exhausting especially after work and transportation was horrible, had to rely on a carlift who was ALWAYS late for pick up and going home. Finally found place in Dubai near work so now I've moved. Easiest solution is to work on my license as well. Good luck with your driver hunt!

I've been in that position before but by the time I was looking for my second job in the UAE (moved to another emirate from Abu Dhabi to Dubai), I was already the queen of patience. But that's because I was on husband's visa and time wasn't a hindrance. For those on a tourist visa, you must know that the other ladies are correct. It isn't as easy as before to find a job that quickly. And walk-ins don't work here (both in Abu Dhabi and Dubai) because they won't entertain you if you don't have an appointment. Companies will contact you if they are interested and that's when you can go see them. That being said, the first thing you have to do is to submit your CVs to as many companies as you can and wait patiently for callbacks. I also agree that maximizing the powers of LinkedIn job postings works wonders. It has for me and for other people I know. This is because it's free for companies to post vacancies on the site and get relevant candidates as opposed to making use of job sites that ask for a fee to advertise their job listings. Good luck!!

I work fulltime and usually don't have the energy or the time to make something complicated for dinner. Anyone have quick dinner suggestions? So far I've purchased a Crockpot to dump everything in and let it do the cooking. It has helped. But suggestions are still very much welcome. TIA!

Dear Gritt, However super experienced a midwife or a nurse is, only a doctor can DIAGNOSE. Midwives and nurses provide care and assistance. If you're worried you might be pregnant, the standard procedure is to get a pregnancy test. Negative or positive, when in doubt, see an OB. Stop exercising for a while as the first trimester (first four months) of a pregnancy is crucial and the risk of miscarrying is high. This is also the reason why doctors warn newly preggy mothers not to announce their pregnancy yet after the first four months to prevent heartache for the mother and the people told. Good luck!

I'm not sure about your lifestyle but for me, to survive a few weeks alone with just food and maybe cab fare to worry about... it would be sufficient to live off with maybe 3,000 AED a month minimum for food and other necessities. If I live in a fully furnished place then it should be easy to scrimp a little and focus on necessities. Then splurge and enjoy when your first paycheck comes in! ;)

Dark circles can also be effects of rubbing your eyes frequently. The vasodilation of blood vessels cause the darkening. I would avoid rubbing eyes to avoid this and yes, get enough sleep. For the puffiness, a tea bag over your eyes works and cucumber slices too.

I use Shop and Ship by Aramex. Pretty handy because I order my stuff from the U.S. and they give me a U.S. post box. That way the shipping is free or costs less compared to having a local one in Dubai.

Would avoid buying perfume online even from ones who claim that their business is all original and no counterfeit. A warehouse full of counterfeit perfume was raided recently in one of the Emirates. I'm pretty sure they just rebottle it or something. Once made a mistake of buying perfume (Agua de Gio by Emporio Armani) at Hamdan Centre in Abu Dhabi. Paid for an original one but it definitely was diluted. Fragrance wouldn't last for even an hour!

Contacts solution aren't hard to find. Optical shops everywhere in Abu Dhabi, especially in malls carry them. Although you might mean that they are pricier than how much they should be. I find contacts and solution expensive here in UAE in general, compared to other places I've gotten them from.

What helps me cope with homesickness when I first moved here was to really learn to adapt and explore new things/places. I tried training my mind to see that the world is my home and wherever I am that's where my heart and mind are going to be. Furthermore, I try to see the world as borderless. That way I am able to cope and eventually do away with the awful feeling of homesickness. Try staying in touch all the time too with family and friends if it helps. ;)

If it is a foot infection that doesn't heal, take him to an Endocrinologist. They are the "diabetes specialists". He'll make necessary referrals because a wound that does not heal is not just a skin problem. It has to do with his blood sugar, which is why there is slow healing. Good luck! Bring him to the doctor right away.

Laughing so loud like a looney here at work reading those Amazon reviews. Those are ridiculous! If it's true then why still have those bags lying around stores for sale? EEk! Good thing you did your research first. There are a lot of Haribo gummies hanging around supermarkets here. Needless to say, that Amazon link made my day. Unfortunate for those who suffered, though. Sounds awful!

I'd listen to your doctor and take your maintenance medicine for hypertension. Your BP level is too high and if it continues on and not lowered, it can damage your kidneys and worse, you are at risk of stroke. I've been a hypertensive since I was 18 years old (a lot skinnier back then but still BP shoots up). More than 10 years later I'm still on medication. I have problems with medicine compliancy though, as sometimes I neglect to take them regularly. All my doctors so far have warned me of stroke complications, other serious cardiovascular diseases, and kidney failure when time comes. Take care! Exercise will also help but sometimes when it's too high you will need medication. I tried running for months last year and it did help regulate my BP but when I stop it shoots right back up. Best to stay on medication. bye:
