I would recommend Dr. Sakib Nazir at Al Zahra Hospital. I've switched to two different cardiologists in the two years I've been living in Dubai but stayed with Dr. Nazir. He's very thorough and explains things well for the patient to understand. Hope you find what you're looking for. I find it difficult to find a doctor that I could stick to. Building that rapport and trust with medical professionals seem elusive these days especially when you're in a foreign country.

My husband's GPS thing accidentally fell and it broke. He brought it to Zoom or is it Xoom in Al Quoz. Still waiting for the quotation. I'm appalled by how these things break so easily and it's a Garmin too! =/ If the ladies are suggesting a pick up and drop off by the repair store, then all the better? Unless they will charge you for that.

Try Ductac. Last I checked on their website they have art classes like painting and pottery. They even have writing workshops. It's located at Mall of the Emirates.

Ordered a set of Real Techniques brushes before from a well-known Dubai-based online store. Lo and behold! I got the fake ones. Never trusting third-party online merchants again. Better to buy from stores!

Dear SevenSeconds, It actually depends on which industry you belong to. Some fields don't really mind even if you had a 10 year gap. But some industries would require continuous development of skills. I believe that if you'll just explain to them how competent you are, that you are a fast-learner and eager to learn new things... you will get through. Polish your CV first, yes. I think you can do that yourself, there are plenty of samples online to follow your format from. Good luck!

Try the Royal Shaheen Interactive experience. It's like a desert safari but the focus is more on wildlife in the desert. http://www.royalshaheen.ae/ I've seen celebrities do this type of safari and it seems awesome! A bit on the pricier side than a regular safari but it's worth it for a once in a lifetime experience, though.

Welcome to Abu Dhabi! You'll love it there because it's a smaller city than Dubai. Much more quiet and relaxed, plus easy to get from A to B. Taxis are way cheaper than Dubai too and if you drive, everything is just nearby.

Have you tried looking for job vacancies on LinkedIn? Many UAE companies hire from CVs submitted through LinkedIn. It's easily accessed, free and usually has good response rate from applicants as compared to job hunting sites. My HR friends and companies I have previously worked for in the UAE sometimes dislike the fact that the jobhunting sites offer their platforms that cost an arm and a leg. Thus, LinkedIn has become their saviour! That being said, look for job openings on LinkedIn. Polish your profile there and polish your CV. You are usually asked to attach your CV file and upload it upon application. I was contacted by my current employer on LinkedIn and have had several feedbacks from there. Trust me, LinkedIn is a UAE thing. Good luck! I hope everything will work well according to your favor.

I have been going there since it opened. I really like Nabiha. I have blondish hair with a medium cut and over the past few months I have received quite a few compliments about both the cut and color. I hope you have a positive experience! Hi Marsbar, thanks for your reply! Okay I'll book with them today and look for Nabiha. :) I figured to ask first before blindly going and pick out whoever. At least you liked your experience. I'm pretty picky with my hair. I'm Asian and black hair can be really difficult to color when you choose to go lighter (especially when I've dyed it black before). I have a medium cut too, intend to keep it this way because it's easier to maintain. Thanks again! EDIT: Unfortunately Nabiha is away this weekend. I was booked with Ellie. Let's see how it goes!

Enjoy your downtime while you can! I was a housewife too when my husband moved to three Emirates before settling in Dubai (hope this time for good!). I had to follow him around so I left my old job in Abu Dhabi and moved to Sharjah. I had a homebased job then for a year but it wasn't a regular job so there were downtimes. We lived there for a year because he worked at an oil company there. A year later we found ourselves packing for Dubai when we both got better jobs here. Here are my suggestions: 1. Find a hobby. - Whether it's scrapbooking, reading, writing, sowing and other fun things that can keep you preoccupied, now is the time you can do it! I've been through each and everyone of these hobbies and it was a fun time to have all that time without feeling guilty. 2. Learn a new language. - Perhaps learn Arabic? There are plenty of free and paid classes around town. Look online for some workshops and classes. You'll be surprised! 3. Learn how to cook or experiment new dishes. Now that I'm working I have no time at all experimenting on dishes and baking new treats. I always want to plop on the bed and just stay there and not move after work! 4. Read, read and read! I finished about 30 books in a few months time during my year off work. It was glorious! The list is endless. I know it's not easy to keep calm and not go crazy. We've all been there. Some of us are just wired to do something and we can't keep still. Just tell yourself that this is just a phase, it will pass and you'll soon be a busy bee. Because really, be careful what you wish for! You'll be busy in no time. ;) Enjoy!!

Agree with the other ladies. Buy a pail especially for the mum with the baby. I wash my delicate clothes by hand and in cool water by filling the tub halfway with water and leaving it there to cool. I need a pail too, the water is too hot even in the morning!

My 3 year old has had a fever of 39.5 & white spots on his throat since this afternoon. We took him straight to the Dr after school who said he had a viral infection so didn't give antibiotics just recommended Adol & rehydration sachets. I have given both and followed with ibuprofen, Vicks on his feet, lukewarm bath, light pjs and a cool room, his temp is stil 39. Does anyone have any suggestions please? I'm due to travel for work tomorrow ? TIA Hi! Here's what you need to know. NEVER LET A FEVER REACH BEYOND 38! 39.5-40 degrees is near convulsive state. You don't want that for kids! I trained as a nurse and here's what we do in hospitals: 1. Tepid Sponge Bath-- Every 15 minutes soak a bath towel and squeeze out excess water in a basin/bowl. Then wipe the forehead, nape, folds of elbow and knees and all the crevices where it is most hot in a child's body. Leave the towel on the forehead so the heat will be released from the body. Do this every 15 minutes and you'll notice the temperature will lower right away. 2. Even if the child is feeling cold and shivering, DO NOT WRAP IN THICK BLANKET OR SWEATERS. This will only trap in the heat and the temperature won't go down. Instead, dress in loose breathable clothing where heat can escape. 3. Check temperature every 30 minutes and make sure it doesn't climb! 4. If your child has chills, see a doctor right away. 5. If the child suffers from a convulsion, bring to emergency department ASAP. 6. Hydrate with lots and lots of water or juice. Feed with soup and some protein (like chicken noodle soup!). Good luck!!

I think that while it is part of her responsibility as a maid to tidy up as she goes, you need to also supervise her while doing so. My mother supervises her maids and trains them how to tidy up as she expects them to when they're new. And then inspects the quality of cleanliness regularly (daily) to see if her instructions have been followed. I think supervision is needed if you are not satisfied with the way she's organizing/cleaning your cupboards. But it is also partly your responsibility to supervise. Not everyone will meet your tidying standards.

I personally used Sana Movers and they were excellent. Found them through Movesouq because I didn't know where to start prior to the move. The Sana Movers team was very friendly, very polite and very efficient! My first move from one place to another was daunting at first but they took care of us and our things with utmost care. Best of all they packed up even the smallest things and the loose change they found they also packed it. Very trustworthy.

I have a Crockpot. I got it from Lakeland MoE. It's fantastic, turns to Warm mode automatically for two hours after cooking. Then it has an auto shut off after it has warmed for two hours. Makes it safe to leave when nobody's home to look at it.

Are you talking about Nitrate? It's a slim film-like medicine that you slip under your tongue for faster absorption prescribed for angina and heart attacks. It's not over-the-counter though so ask your doctor first. It opens up the blood vessels (vasodilation) for oxygenation of the body through blood.

These days a lot of educational materials are easily accessible thanks to the internet. Here are some tips: 1. Download some audio books. 2. Listen to podcasts, I'm sure there's "Learn English" somewhere there. 3. Watch a lot of tv to learn conversational English. That's how kids these days learn. 4. READ, READ and READ. Take notes of words that you don't understand. After reading, have a dictionary within reach so you can look up the words you listed down. Write the definition on paper and go through them several times carefully learning these words and the meaning. By reading, I don't only mean books but read absolutely everything you can put your hands on and bring you notebook (preferably a small one so you can bring anywhere). If you can, ask a friend or someone about words yo don't understand, it's also easier that way. Good luck!

I had my eyebrows done yesterday and the lady who did them had awful stinky hands. I almost gagged! From where I come from, the ladies usually wash their hands first and rub some sanitizier or rubbing alcohol before touching you. The smell was so awful I had to try breathing through my mouth!

I noticed how online stores have more sales than the actual shops in malls. For example, Kate Spade recently had a surprise 75% sale. It pays to sign up for their newsletters. They have exclusive sales only for those who signed up for the mailing lists. My sister got a Gucci bag on sale on the official website as well. I think they all do this.

Been to Singapore a couple of times. Something about that city keeps me going back. Love the place! I must say, I do love their way of living too and IT RAINS IN SINGAPORE! Lucky you! Good luck on your move. Just curious, is the cost of living the same as in Dubai? I have a Korean friend who married a local there and by what she has told me, it's pretty much the same rent and all. Except for cars, the government encourages public transport, which is why it is expensive get a car there.

Can't wait for the official Apple Store to open here. They have fantastic service centers and customer service representatives onsite and off. My hard drive crashed once and didn't know what to do. Brought it to the service center and the guy there troubleshooted in on the spot. I'd trust the accredited Apple guys. They know their stuff. I had a very old Macbook White years ago and it was already turning yellow-ish (it's plastic!). When my laptop came back to me when the hard drive was replaced they threw in a new front cover as well. My computer came back like it was brand new! Also, warn your daughter not to click or download anything that comes from a pop-up! It's always a malware.

Love the Paperwhite too! I used to have the Touch but I'm a voracious reader and it was a pain reading in the dark because I had to buy an external reading lamp. The Paperwhite is so versatile and doesn't hurt my eyes at all. Battery is also amazing. To convert files, I use Calibre, it's the best. For a broken Kindle, I agree with Amazon having impeccable customer service. I'm not a phone person so I tried their chat feature and it was very efficient. Agree with the post that every Kindle is unique and if it has WiFi they can pretty much check from where they are. That's what they did with mine. Good luck! I hope they do replace it with another one because from the previous model, I've had a friend who got one with a factory defect and it just died.

They are there, sorry can't give you the aisle positions, but they are there in Choits, C4, etc but not in the logical places you are looking in - frustrating I know, it's like hide and seek! Are you talking about the section where they put the dumpling wraps and pastry sheets? I think I saw these rice wrappers in a freezer section where they keep the puff pastry sheets, egg roll wraps, etc. Not sure though but it's worth the look. Also try that Asian supermarket along Sheikh Zayed Road, near Marina I think. Can't remember where I saw it as I was in the car and zoomed pass by it.
