I got my maid's sister an employment visa and then she flew to Bangkok. First time she was in Manila airport they were asking for invitation letter from Bangkok, and didn't let her fly. Later my husband arranged from some office in Bangkok a letter of invitation, then they let her fly to Bangkok. She is happy with us now. :)

Last month, Sama TV (Dubai local tv) was showing a lion on their candid camera program after breaking the fast. Lion was waking in to people's majlis while they r not expecting them. My understanding is that, many farm house here are keeping exotic animals like lion and cheetah as pets.

Thing is, the other day i was shifting my parrot into his new cage, and as he was climbing in he fell of his new perch and let out a nano-second squeal...three minutes later, my neighbour (four kids, two maids, one of the loudest in that wing), knocks on my door and says "could you please not let that squeal happen again, we're all trying to sleep before playtime). It was 4pm in the afternoon. An hour before their prolonged "squealing" sessions. I was gobsmacked. I didn't even have time to react. My parrot squealed INSIDE, and it was barely a second long. OMG... it is too much, you must call the management and complain about the children. Stop being nice to them. Take action.

are you writing an article? there is a maids section. I won't answer these questions as I feel it will open up one of those terrible fights, and before we all know it some will be attacked for 'exploitation' etc. BUT, there is a member on this board who got roped into slicing mangoes for her sick maid once, and boy, did she live to regret that move! I remember the mango slicing...hahahaha...... I dont remember ... can you retell ?[/quote I think the mango slice in this thread, if not, still it is an interesting thread. ( today not Thursday...but still it is a good read):) edited by halfmoon on 13/09/2011

My DH is househunting - whoever he calls, he keeps getting taken to the same villa in Mizhar, I think today was the 4th time he has been to the same one. Does anyone know anyone who is leaving a great villa in one of the above areas over the summer? Or have a great Real Estate contact for these areas? Looking for min 4 bed, outside Maids, private garden up to 170k. There is a 4 bedroom beautiful independent villa with garden is there is mirdif. It is direct from landlord, so you dont need to pay for the agency fees. You can contact 0504982743. HTH

Just an update - last I heard, Ma has booked her taxi, though not packed her bags yet, and will be getting on the plane tomorrow. Hopefully, she will arrive in one piece. She's doing the wheelchair thing with BA at both ends, so that should be all right. She says she's fine to walk, but even so, I have ordered a wheelchair from the local pharmacy, but will only have it on Saturday, Insha'Allah. Thinking back, I know I booked the ticket very quickly, before my mother could back out of it and may well have ticked the lowest fare box, not realizing it meant it wasn't flexible (just, doh, how simple can you get, ABC? :) ) Spoilt by flexible airmiles, that's me :) I reiterate a warning not to assume, but I'm sure I'm the only idiot stupid enough to have done this and nearly lost so much money.. I hope your mother arrived safely.

The other thing I have just done is taken DS to a educational kinestheisiologist.....it was really to help him with his pronunciation, anyway thought this lady was incredible......very insightful, and given us lots of "homework". Anyway also noticed on her business card that she is something to do with sensory integration..... My son too has problem in pronouncing certain words, what is educational kinestheisiologist? please share the contact detail of this therapist? Thank you so much

Hi ms champion, my son is not as ethers, but has had a language delay and associated behavioral issues, so I know how difficult schooling is in Dubai, if you have a child anywhere outside the "norm" and the "norm" being very narrow here. My first thought is that you need to get in touch with Fiona Coutts.... She is an education consultant, so helps families find schools for their kids. A big part of her business is relocations, but she has a special interest in children with special needs. She knows what schools do it well, and she knows the best way to approach those schools. It doesn't come cheap, but she will be your sons best advocate. Their are children on the autistic spectrum in schools in Dubai. In my son's class there is a boy who is autistic ( with a full time shadow) - he would not be consider aspergers, definitely autistic. If you search Fiona Coutts on here , her contact details should come up....I know she is going away in a couple of weeks.... With ABA -we did some work with a behavioral therapist from a center that does ABA...reach out in knowledge village . I have to say they have dealt with us with absolute integrity....and been very quick to reduce DS therapy , as and when he has been ready, really felt they weren't all about the cheque..... Also wanted to make a comment about BILD....contrary to what's written on here, they are not a school, they do provide educational services, but are not a registered school, had dealings with them, for a very short time, and have to say, didn't feel they had the integtrity we would expect.... Also the head therapist, I thought were good, but the junior therapist we took DS too for speech, I felt was woefully inexperienced and ineffectual. The other thing I have just done is taken DS to a educational kinestheisiologist.....it was really to help him with his pronunciation, anyway thought this lady was incredible......very insightful, and given us lots of "homework". Anyway also noticed on her business card that she is something to do with sensory integration..... I agree with your comment about BILD, I put my son there few years back and had very bad experience from them. They run the place like a school but it not registered under ministry of education.

Hi Just read a report on Autism in Dubai and was really shocked at the lack of facilites here .. app there is a centre in Al Diyafah Street Dubai Autism Center, off Al Satwa that houses 48 autistic children but there are 219 on the waiting list , they have a team of 63 staff, including 30 specialist educators and 12 therapists . They are also due to open a purpose bulit facility that will house 150 children. I have never met anyone with Autism but isnt there a shocking shortage of available facilities here in Dubai ? Yes, it is shocking but it is true, here not much support for autistic/special need children from the government.

In my opinion, MM is promoting them as a safe place for children to play and have parties, hence they shouldn't allow random people to have food in the same place which is secured for children. I have not been to MM so I do not know how they function there. My opinion is based on the information given by the OP.

i wasa big fan of microderma in the uk, not so much here as not everywhere has the really up to date equipment (diamond tipped wand thing). i've recently moved onto glycolic peels - amazing! completely sorted out my very dry temperamental skin. you literally glow afterwards. really quick, takes about ten mins, i go to a wonderful lady who has her own clinic. 300 dh per peel. i go once a month. you can wear make up immediately afterwards, you do need to stay out of the sun/use factor 100, but i do this on my face anwway. if you pop up your details i will happily send you her contacts.[/quo Can you please share the name and number of the clinic for me also...thank you. I need some advice from Mirdif residents, please :). Is it reasonably dog-friendly for a pair of large golden retrievers? Is there anywhere to walk them? Which bits aren't under the flight path? Which bits are nicest? Any input much appreciated. Hi, I live in Mirdif, 15 street near the pink mosque and it is good area... you can hear the plane sound if you are in the yard, but inside the house, your AC is on, then hardly u will notice it.. there is an empty villa there if you are interested, opposite to alyasiya saloon... it is good to have dogs coz it independent villa with a big space outside the villa... if you need details, i can mail you the person u need to contact.

Hi everyone, I also need to get into shape. I am not a very exercise person. Heard VLCC has some program now which they guarantee to take away 5 kilos in 45 days.. Has anyone tried that? any feedback will be appreciated. They didnt say how much it will cost, if it is too much then i cant afford. They said each person is different so their rates are different and only after the assessment they can say how much it will cost. Thank you and have a great day. A friend of mine is doing that, it cost her AED4,500. They assessed her nutritional needs, gave her an eating plan, they weigh and measure her every other day, gave her an exercise plan (I think) and they IRON HER TUMMY with a machine than they say helps to tighten it! But YES, it's never a one plan fits all HTH edited by forever 21 on 23/05/2011 Thank you.

I travel all the time with my son, who is autistic and very hyper. Here are few tips. 1- carry a card or document stating your child is autistic and show that to any counter so you don't need to wait in any ques. 2- take with you portable dvd and carry some of their favorite movies . ( i used to record his favorite tv program and take it with me) 3- depend on their interest, carry iphone or psp, game boy, that can keep them occupied. 4- if they like drawing ..take some sketch book and color pencils. 5- take their favorite food in different boxes, whenever they are crying, your can give them. 6-. buy some small new toys and hide it..give them only on desperate cases. Hope this tips helps and enjoy your holiday. Regards

Hi av1998, I am really happy to hear you found right place for your son. My son now attends Mirdif Private School with the help of Stepping Stones. Here he is having the facility to interact with other students in Mirdif Private school. Are you trying any treatment for your son other than therapy? If you like to answer, you can email me, you can write on [email protected]. Regards
