Hi ladies. Can you please share your recommendations - where to buy baby shower decorations, - a place that deliver inflated balloons, - good place for flower arrangements with delivery We also want to order canapés, finger food and a really Beautiful decorated cake. I'm more about the decoration of the cake, but I would prefer if the cake is very moist. Let me know your suggestions and recommendations. Thank you very much. - Baby shower decorations are available at Party Centre (two locations - Garhoud or Media City) - Blooms, Black Tulip, Worood, etc. all do beautiful floral arrangements - Inflated balloons would need to be picked up unless you were prepared to meet the minimum charges for orders or then pay a high delivery charge! - For canapes/finger food try Lime Tree Cafe or Shakespear or More Cafe catering... - For the cake, if you want really moist I would suggest going with Chocoa... as they are the one of the few places where i have seen that the fondant cakes are quite moist... normally fondant cakes aren't very moist as they need to be dense enough to hold the weight of the fondant... but Chocoa can be expensive... so if you're looking for slightly cheaper then try other bakeshops as well like Sugaholic or Sugalicious etc. and if you need any additional help with organising the party i'd be happy to answer ur questions... just pm on [email protected] edited by HorizonMum2 on 17/09/2014

why dont u pick a hotel that has a meeting room with a view? 20-30 people can easily be accommodated in such a place and still be within budget :) or if you prefer outdoor venues... most of the hotels do a rooftop pool venue that can be cordoned off (depending on the time of day you are considering for your event)... the Creek Sheraton, for example, has a lovely poolside area overlooking the creek that is lovely and under 120dhs per head!! or you could hire one of those yachts at the Marina area and do a dinner/dancing etc on board... not sure though what durations they cater to

we supplied our maid with a starter kit when she joined us: 2 bath towels 2 hand towels 2 face towels 6 pack of soap (we picked Dettol... as it was on offer) 1 shampoo (H&S... again was on offer) 2 pack deo (Nivea... was on offer) 1 large pack of sanitary napkins (Always brand) and then on a monthly basis we replenish the sanitary pads, deo, shampoo and soap... and on an annual basis the towels over and above this if she wants any specific brands or face/hand creams, hair removal equipment, oils, makeup, etc she just needs to use her own money to purchase these...

Have you tried the Maya brunch? We loved it. You get beach/pool access all day, food was fab and brought to the table and then later on in the evening it's a nice place for drinks. I can't remember how much it was though - sorry! we haven't but i'll get in touch with them now

I have mailed Media One to ask about reservation availability... thanks for the feedback on the clubs sarahlou :) hehehe Guiness2 - most of us won't be drinking but we would like to still party into the night :) we're debating between Cirque Le Soir and White but also open to other options... something a bunch of 30-somethings can have a fun night dancing! :)

sorry can't help with any names in qusais/mirdiff area... but i usually get my DDs long dresses for formal occasions stitched at Dreamgirl Tailors in Burdubai, Karama and/or Satwa... the fabrics are usually bought from Satwa or Burdubai... they have many books with design options and you just pick the style you like and they will advise you on what fabric will suit it and how much fabric you need... expect to pay around 120dhs for a dress (without lining) and extra if lining is required...

one idea would be to make your own decorations - if you go onto etsy they have loads of Peppa *** Printable Party Kits... https://www.etsy.com/listing/202033120/instant-download-printable-party-kit?ref=sr_gallery_31&ga_search_query=peppa+***+birthday&ga_ref=auto4&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery https://www.etsy.com/listing/152952161/peppa-***-birthday-party-set-diy?ref=sr_gallery_19&ga_search_query=peppa+***+birthday&ga_ref=auto4&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery All you need to do is download it and print onto card stock paper... and viola... u have ur own customised peppa party! :) For balloons, you can just stick to the theme colours of pink, etc coordinating with your printables... For the dress... why not get a high resolution peppa *** image screen printed onto a tshirt? and pair with a tutu skirt?

also have a look at this salon called Hair Highness Salon in Beach Park Plaza... just opposite Salon Ink... they have a pakistani hair stylist who does an excellent job with haircut/colour, etc... i've done mine there and it didn't cost me a bomb... but they only have one stylist though (as it's more of a salon and not just a hair only place) so they might require an appointment to be taken

absolutely crazy busy weekend at our end... it's the south indian festival of Onam (similar to a harvest festival)... so we've been busy cooking up a storm over the past few days... it's traditional to have at least 24 items on the menu called a 'sadya (feast)'... all vegetarian... and eaten on a leaf... looking forward to the food coma that the family will be in all weekend! :)

we have an apartment in GreenLakes S3 tower... right next to the metro station and our tenant has been very happy there... we haven't had the tenant raising any issues to our attention so perhaps that's a tower you could consider in your search... they are more expensive than some of the other towers in the JLT area though due to their size and fittings...

we used to stay on that strip too and the older buildings on that strip are bigger and cheaper than most of the newer ones... the tower we were staying in was called Skyline Residence (smack in between the Four Points Sheraton Hotel and Towers Rotana Hotel)... we were only paying 90K for a large spacious 3 bedroom plus maids room... they recently upped the rent to 130K (which is why we moved!)... but its a lovely building and very very very spacious with all amenities such as pool, squash court, party hall, etc. The property was managed by Jumeirah Real Estate so try giving them a call... welcome back (in advance!)

HorizonMum, I was looking for a post of yours yesterday re your sister. Someone posted here as they needed someoe to create a webs tie for them. I am not sure if your sister does that, but she could do this for some extra money until she finds something else. I do not recall the posters name who asked though so you'll have to go through the threads from yesterday. thank you sooooo much for remembering!! :) I have forwarded this to my sis... much appreciated!!

what's ur budget? what's the priority for the family? better ambience or better food? would you require alcohol at the venue? indian restaurants such as Gazebo, Options, etc. offer wonderful food but are not licensed and is more of a restaurant with little or no privacy... if you like more of an ambience then look at the more fine dining indian options such as - Asha's (Pyramids, Wafi) - Aangan (Dhow Palace Hotel) - Ashiana (Sheraton Dubai Creek) - Antique Bazaar (Four Points Sheraton Bur Dubai) - Iz (Grand Hyatt) - Indego by Vineet (Grosvenor House) - La Porte des Indes (the Address Dubai Mall - Amal (Armani Hotel)

hi... a cousin of mine is desperately looking for a 'work-from-home' type job in web application development... she's a fresh engineer with 1yr UAE experience... the company she's currently working for is suffering financial difficulties and will be closing down by the end of the year... she is currently on their visa and is starting to get desperate. she is 7months pregnant so can't really look at the option of starting afresh at a full time job... but they really need the money so she's looking for a solution where in she can be at home with the child while still be able to contribute to the family income... I've looked at options online but cant find anything that would be a 'work from home' solution for her... she's not looking for a very high remuneration and will be very happy with a monthly salary of 5K... she's more keen on the flexibility now than anything else... if anyone can think of anything remotely suitable pls message here... thanks... much appreciated... edited by HorizonMum2 on 03/08/2014

I normally don't pay my full time live-in maid when she babysits after hours... she's at home anyway... and we don't have a crazy big house and she gets lots of rest time during the day when the kids are at school... we pay her quite fairly so I don't see the need to pay her additional amount of money over and above this for babysitting... if you have to pay 500dhs every night for babysitting you might as well hire a professional nurse to take care of your child during that time! some of these maids I tell u!!! anyway... I'm not some mean and cruel 'madam' so I better make this clear before getting a barrage of thumbs down hits... I rarely ask her to work on her day off (Fridays) and she gets that off every week... but if and when I do its usually because it's my child's birthday or some major family event that she is anyway a part of... and on those occasions I pay her an extra amount... if it's a full day then AED 250... if it's half day then AED 100...

the offer via the pinkladydeals uses the Schwarzkopf rebonding products... haven't seen any Shiseido ones there so perhaps best to check with them... FairyDust where did you do yours and roughly how much did the rebonding cost?

hi there... I've had my previously coloured hair rebonded with Aliza at Beauty Plus Salon (via pinkladydeals)... she showed me pictures of what happens when you try to rebond coloured hair... the hair sort of frizzes and snaps... her advise was to apply a special protection cream which she applied to my coloured strands (my hair only had highlights and not full colour) and then proceeded with the rebonding... in spite of the protection cream the coloured strands were still dry after treatment but then some anti frizz serum would help calm them down... this is probably why she advised you to either use the additional protection mechanism (cost me an added 300dhs over and above the cost of the rebonding)... I would go with her advise... she is not really after your money... as I've visited her salon on five separate occasions and always seen them busy with clients... she does quite a number of rebonding and keratin treatments a week (from all the pictures she's shown me on her cell phone) so I'm pretty confident that she knows hair and the suitable treatments for it... my suggestion for you would be to do keratin straightening or botox - both of which smoothen out the hair and make it more manageable without having the poker straight look...

how about a pool pass or beach pass at one of the hotels? look at the more budget hotels that are by the beach... ajman kempinski ( for example)... that way you can still enjoy the outdoors and come indoors for meal times, etc.

sounds like ur maid is a Filipino and it's a well known fact that many of the Filipino women have separate love affairs here (in spite of having a husband and children back home)... and this is not just about maids! I have quite a number of Filipino women in my office in pretty much the same situation... they have 'boyfriends' here in spite of having a husband back home... they do treat these relationships as quite casual and their main reason for being here is to earn enough for their family to live comfortably back home... to be honest I would probably just mention it [u'>once[/u'> that dressing provocatively like this might attract some unwanted attention (especially as she might be travelling on public transport) ... hopefully she'll get the message... if she doesn't then just leave it at that... as long as it's not interfering with her work at home you should probably not push it any further than that
