hmmmm... I think it would depend on who was doing it and what the situation was... in our case, for example, my mum lives with us and has a fair share in disciplining my kids... so if she, as a family member, were to give one of my kids a slap on their bottom for being repeatedly naughty at something (and trust me they can get that criminal at least once a week) then I wouldn't be as upset as, say, for example, a neighbor slapping my child!! that would be unacceptable on all grounds irrespective of how close I was with the neighbor! every act can be justified... it all just depends on the situation... else not many criminal cases in court would have been won! edited by HorizonMum2 on 19/05/2014

not sure whether this is relevant or not but my DD's school has released the following notification: KHDA age regulations Added on 15 May 2014 Letters from the KHDA have recently been sent to all Dubai schools regarding new regulations about age limits of children at school. Please be aware that these new regulations will have no impact on Horizon as we are a British Curriculum School. All classes and children will remain as they are. If you have any concerns please contact school. Kind regards Horizon School Wait, so this isn't for British schools? not sure... all I was saying it that this is the notification parents of students in school and those expecting to start school this September were sent...

in our compound where we live there are loads of kids out from the 5pm-7pm slot all happily playing ball or cycling or walking their dogs... even this weekend we were out in the park from 5pm - 7pm on one day and at the beach at the same time the next day... full of people both locations and all happily enjoying themselves... of course you'd need plenty of water/juices to keep them hydrated... and if you're lucky enough to have access to some electricity a couple of misting fans should do the trick...

I think you could still get away with it... provided of course that you schedule it later on in the day (like 5pm-7pm)... you will still get sunshine without the crazy heat levels... try opting for a community park closest to your home...

Hi there! I bought a beautiful pajama set from Matalan yesterday (for a 3 years old, as well). They also had slippers, a heart-shaped bag and a beach bag. And cheap, as well. Good luck! that sounds PERFECT... I hope they have it in the lamcy branch which is right across from where I am at the moment!! :) that would save me the long drive to springs

I use another product for my girls... it's from Mustela and it's called Soothing Balm... its a bit more expensive that vicks... I think we pay around 40dhs for a tube... but it's amazinggg... helps soothe down even the worst cough and smells divine... plus its doesn't sting at all so can be also rubbed on the nose to help make breathing easier

any Aamir Khan movie is a real pleasure to watch... (Lagaan included... though it is a tad bit too long for me)... watch others like: - Taare Zameen Par - Ghajini - 3 idiots - Talaash - Dil Chahta Hain - Fanaa - Jo Jeeta Wohin Sikandar - Rang De Basanti - Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak All these are wonderful movies... but if you're specifically looking for romantic mushy type movies then any Yash Raj movie or Karan Johar movie should nail it... When looking to download just type in movie name followed by dvdrip ESub and it should give you exactly what you're looking for ... for example... I think you will first need to see where your partner will be working... although the interviews may be in the barsha location his place of work might necessarily not be in the same area... if you have a pet it would be best to live in a villa/townhouse as opposed to an apartment so as to give your furry companion enough area to run around... the newer schools are much easier to apply to than the older, more popular established ones... the newer schools are more often, than not, branches of these existing schools... try arranging for school tours of the newer Kings branch or one of the new GEMS schools in Al Khail... they are all a reasonable distance from Barsha... though if you're not driving you will need to factor in bus fees... try driving around some of the community based living areas (these are often best if you're new in Dubai as it would give you more opportunity to meet and socialize with others than an independent villa or an apartment style living would offer)... Greens (apartments), Motorcity (villas and apartments), Arabian Ranches (villas), Layan (villas) are all possible options... have a good look around... there are more posh established options but it all really revolves to your housing allowance...

Hmmm... I could possibly help with the setup at home if you like... basically what it would involve is the following... - full table setup with linens, silverware, flowers, etc. with a romantic theme in colour of your choice - outdoor music or live ambient music (such as harpist, etc.) - mood lighting / fairy lights etc strung around trees/gazebo, etc - hired butler/waiter service to serve the food - chef to do live cooking for two or then ordered in food but plated and served on your table - clean up service before and after event :)

You girls like to make things confusing lol A maid is contracted for 12 months and contract to work 11 months. If the maid gos on Vacation she gets paid as normal (once a month but obviously they like the salary early to take hom with them) If your maid stays here and works, then you have to pay them the extra month salary becuase they are working an extra month (ie 12 months working instead of 11 months) thanks for the clarification mumofmoo

If you have been paying your maid an annual bonus then you owe her 3 months salary for the extra month worked. huh?? because you have been only paying her monthly salary - she is entitled to paid leave; if she worked through her leave you should pay her double for that month. which is what I did with the 13th month salary... basically paying her leave salary for the month that she worked (when she should have technically been away)

I guess it depends on why the 13th month salary was paid by the OP. Was it an annual bonus or additional compensation for the maid working through her annual leave period? Since the flight allowance was paid in cash to compensate the maid for not taking her leave, I assumed that the 13th month's salary was an annual bonus. If that's the case, it's still payable of the maid decides to take her annual leave - but the flight allowance isn't, as it its used towards the flights home. I wouldn't expect any employer to force employees to forego bonus payments because they take their rightfully earned annual leave entitlement. But then again, I have come to understand that maids and nannies in Dubai are most often not treated like other humans. her 13th month salary was basically her leave salary... which she basically never went on... until now... so I just want to make sure that I'm not undercutting her... this is [u'>[b'>not[/b'>[/u'> a bonus... we give her extra money as a gift on birthdays (both hers and our kids) and also on religious festivals (her festivals)... but never as a bonus and she hasn't expected that either... we have however given her a salary increment each year... I guess I will need to talk to her and explain the whole 13th month salary was leave salary bit...

She has been paid the extra month as she has stayed here and prob worked her holiday, hence paying extra. If she is not here why should OP pay her for 13 months? exactly my thoughts... just so confused about this... and would really like to understand what I'm legally obliged to

I'm confused and I'm hoping someone can help clarify the situation with regards to the money I owe my maid... she has been with us for the past three years... and this is a summary of the money we have paid her so far... contract start date was May 7th 2011... she has been paid on the 7th of every month thereafter her monthly agreed salary on May 7th 2012, I paid her the monthly salary for April plus an extra month's salary plus compensation for her flight ticket home (as she chose not to take her holiday)... then june 7th 2012 I paid her the agreed monthly salary again... and continued to do so on May 7th 2013, I paid her the monthly salary for April plus an extra month's salary plus compensation for her flight ticket home (as she again chose not to take her holiday)... then june 7th 2013 I paid her the agreed monthly salary again... and continued to do so this year (next week)... I will need to pay her the monthly salary for April... but she has decided to take her annual leave this year (from june 7th to july 10th)... but I'm not sure how much to pay her next week... do I only pay her the April salary? or should I pay the 13th month salary? and what happens in June? do I pay her for her May services? as well as (in advance for her leave period?) so confusing!!! apologies for the rant... but I'm kinda clueless about it... and we never had to worry about this as she hasn't travelled out of the country so far and this is our first experience with a maid

Btw Homegrown is opening up a new branch .. Have u been to children's oasis or child's play? They r quite popular too. U cud also check jumeriah international nurseries, they have several nurseries and are cheaper than those mentioned. Horizon kids nursery guarantees u a space in their school. Let me know if u need more choices, I've been to so many. just wanted to add in here that Horizon Kids Nursery does not guarantee you a place at the school... only gives you preference for assessment...
