After all that fuss, not to respond to CT's email ... don't jump the gun DM... I had replied immediately to cat0trax but unfortunately my mail went into her iCloud account instead of in her regular inbox... that's why she thought I hadn't responded... all sorted now thankfully and she has decided to purchase the same... phew... glad that's one less thing to worry about this evening... and I can go with a much more genuine smile to the wedding I'm organizing this weekend! all's well that end's well! :)

for the short term try going in once a month for a Moroccan bath... the intense scrubbing tends to help loosen out the ingrown hair... ingrown hair is a very common side effect of waxing... if you're looking to get rid of it in the long term look at laser treatment (using ND Yag machine) that will be painless and will help get rid of ingrown hair permanently

as far as I know, giving perfume as party favours is an emirati tradition. I'm wondering if you could put up notices at obviously arabic beauty clinics/hairdressers. Some brides might see them and be interested. YOu might need an arabic friend to go with you though. Tricky one, I'd be very very very irate if I were in your position!! Thanks Ginnee... never thought of that as an option... will ask around at a couple of local salons and see if something materializes!

Who cares about upsetting them - they are a customer, you are a business. None of my suppliers cared about upsetting me in the run up to my wedding when: * The hairdresser stood me up twice for my trial and left me without anyone 3 days before the wedding * The hotel demanded an illegal 3,500dh payment because DH didn't have EID and they needed to prove that we were residents to waive the tourism fee * The hotel screwed up the cake and forgot to move the flower arch so we paid approx 150dh per minute to have a huge arch at our ceremony that they had promised to move to the dinner but never did * The hotel forgot to return my passport after checking in, and we left back from AUH to DXB and were 4hrs away from flying on our honeymoon when they called to tell me * The maid turned up 2hrs late so I had a screaming teething baby to deal with while I was trying to get ready OK this has turned into a rant, but you get the picture!! oh you poor thing!! wow... that sounds like quite a nightmare! well you see... from what you've said it doesn't sound like you had a planner taking care of things for you... in this case, I'm the planner, and it's my job to ensure that all those things you listed doesn't happen! in my line of business it's all about 'fighting fires' and not really starting them... so that's why I decided not to pressurize the client... I just hope I manage to sell these to someone who's looking for the exact same thing... either through this page or dubizzle... thanks again for all the advice ladies... and do spread the word... fingers and toes crossed...

I have posted on dubizzle... but didn't get any response so far... they changed their minds because when their parents came to town (just in time for the wedding), the parents said that they prefer giving dry fruits as the return gift as its more the traditional hindu thing to do as opposed to giving perfume... and they are pretty forceful so the couple is in a difficult situation as not wanting to upset their parents either...

HorizonMum, are you providing other wedding services for this client? If so perhaps a bit of a tough approach with them might do the trick. I know it's the week of their wedding but that doesn't excuse them leaving you significantly out of pocket. If the favours were part of a wedding 'package' perhaps some negotiations could take place, although I appreciate you don't want negative feedback from them publicly which could damage your reputation. Thanks for the advice Scribs... this was one of the first things I thought about... especially the day they told me and I was absolutely FUMING after putting the phone down... but then once I cooled down I knew that the LAST thing they needed at this stage was to get added pressure from the one person who is supposed to make their life easier! I've let it pass this time round... but for the future I will definitely ensure that any orders placed for extra items such as favors will be accompanied by a 50% payment (at least it will help cover part of the sourcing costs!)... the only saving grace of this was that I hadn't yet gone out and purchased the felt favor bags that these were to be placed in! phewww... now that would have been a nightmare!

I wish I could... but trust me I have never to date had any client who has made a similar request for favors as any previous client... everyone wants something new and different... and my challenge is finding someone who wants exactly 100 pcs... and wanting the exact same unisex scent! plus, if they want more there's no guarantee on being able to source the same type of bottle... arrrgghhhh I'm so furious with myself for not having taken full payment for this before ordering! well lesson learnt for next time.

ooopsss terribly sorry didn't see your post till now! if you're talking about the tall candy jars I'm not selling those (pretty pricey pieces from Pottery Barn)... but the smaller ones I am! You're welcome to come have a look. The items are all competitively priced at 10, 20 and 30dhs... they've only been used once at that event! I also have some cylindrical candle holders from IKEA (but these have a bit of wax stain on them that I haven't been patient enough to remove!

Thank you ladies! HorizonMum2 - what printers did you use as I have never used one in Dubai and is this expensive? I usually use mr. copy... it's not very expensive but you will need to be smart and ask them to print some items on card stock, others on regular paper etc... plus removing all the white spaces at home and enlarging the pics on your computer first can all help!

no it's not a big store... just those small kiosk types ones... they're spread over the mall... the ones that I purchased from was in the IB area... but they have more across the entire place... they have a variety of nut-based candy... in green, blue, aqua, white, pink... but they don't have the sugar and jelly based ones like in the regular candy stalls...

yes I went yesterday... the place was VERY busy and I had to wait 20 minutes into my appointment time before I was seen... but apart from that the experience was positive! they treated me (again pale to medium skin with dark hair) with the Gentle Yag machine and the whole treatment took 1.5 hrs (they did full leg and half arm)... didn't hurt... but it was mildly uncomfortable on some areas where the hair growth was thicker or when it was closer to a bone... The technician who worked on me was Shyla and she was assisted by a lovely lady called Rose. While Shyla was the one actually executing the treatment, Rose was simultaneously shaving or moisturizing/cooling the treated areas. My skin feels super smooth at the moment! Just hope it STAYS that way! All the best for your session today.

going there for my first session today... any feedback ladies from those who'd been to this particular centre before? sorry can't help with the centre, but I would highly recommend laser to IPL, tried both but laser seemed to work better on me. now I only have 1 maintenance session per year :) thanks for the feedback... was planning on getting laser anyway (that too the painless version!)... I think it's called ND YAG or something like that the place had a good offer on... you pay for 3 full leg sessions and get three half arm sessions free... but going there for my first session and could only find a couple of online reviews (all good) so just looking for some additional feedback from the lovely ladies on this forum

we recently went through this procedure so can give you a relatively accurate feedback... the al barsha notary is right beside the RTA in al barsha (besides the Gold & Diamond Park)... if going there by Metro you would just get off that the Gold & Diamond Park station and walk it up... They only open at 8am but a line usually forms from around 7:30am. We got there at 7:15am, put our bag in an imaginary line and waited beside the door with a good book and some takeaway coffee (they have a coffee shop right beside the notary entrance)! The entrance to the notary public is inside the RTA building... so as soon as you enter the main building, go towards your right and it's the first door through the glass doors behind the main reception desk. You will also need photocopies of your EmiratesID page so keep that ready As soon as you get in you will need to take a ticket (just tell them you want the will notarized)... then they will direct you to one cabin where the person behind the desk will check that you have all the necessary documents in order... then he will ask you to go back to the counter and get another ticket and this will be for the open desks in front of the waiting area... here your documents will be checked, stamped and entered onto the system (your lawyers would have already advised you that the notary public will keep one copy of your document for their records)... at this desk you will also need to pay for the services... better to have the correct change... once this is done you will need to go back to that first person you saw (who checked your documents) and he will sign this and keep the extra copy and then you're done! if you're one of the first ten people in line, you can be in and out of there before 9am!! so best to spend that extra 30 minutes waiting in line in the morning...

Hello ladies. I'm also looking for my baby boy's first bday cake, Wild Wild West theme. How much did the cakes you ordered cost you, just so I have an idea? My idea of the cake is one or two tiered with a cake topper, could be fondant or royal icing. Will look into the ones suggested below. Thanks! two tiered FONDANT cakes usually cost around 450dhs and feeds around 20-30 (depending on how big or small you cut slices) if you want to go for something cheaper, have a regular cake and then just use some characters or theming done in fondant (instead of the whole cake being covered in fondant)... in that case a 2kg cake should cost you more than 275...

I've trained with Amir Siddiqui and he's AWESOME! He's tough but an absolute professional... knows fitness like none other! And the best bit is that he doesn't recommend any sort of diets or fads... just old fashioned healthy eating and a good workout... He's expensive but worth every dirham... the other trainers at the gym he runs are quite good too and it's all done under his watchful care so highly recommended... I lost 11.2kgs and dropped two dress sizes while I went for a 3 month training session at the Symmetry Gym in Gold & Diamond Park... and unfortunately due to financial commitments I couldn't carry on but a whole year later I've hardly put on a few kilos... the training and weight loss you get there is truly permanent!

just goes to prove the age old saying - you give a finger and they'll take your whole arm! muchhhh better to set the ground rules right from day 1... our help at home was told right from the start that as long as she was under our sponsorship she would only get one day a week off (Fridays... unless we required her specifically on some Friday and then we would compensate her financially or give her a day off in lieu), no sleeping out at night... so, she could leave as early as she wants on Friday morning, but had to be back by 11pm on Friday night... I'm all for giving them time to relax but you always need to have your hands on the reign... I've just heard so many stories of maids who were given two days off a week actually going and working elsewhere in that time and eventually getting caught and sponsors being unfairly fined! So unless you've got 50K to throw around, I recommend keeping a much tighter watch on the people under your sponsorship! *got my coffee and sitting prepared for the avalanche of responses that will be thrown at me!*
