Thankyou! I'm happy to hear that as we are also Arab by origin but as we were born & raised in the UK our Arabic is not perfect but we want our kids to learn as much Arabic as possible. We can read & write to a certain level & we both speak the language in our respective dialects, my son also understands & speaks it as a second language. I think they didn't mention it as we have British passports, so they must have assumed we would go for the Arabic for non-Arabs...I will email them to let them know what we want. Thanks so much for that ☺️ Sounds like your background is similar to mine, in which case if I was you I would push for Arabic for Arabs. At GWPS they have different level groups within Arabic for Arabs, it's not that all children take the same because they recognise that there are children that move to Dubai as Arabs but don't speak Arabic, but have to take Arabic for Arabs so they try to accomodate. As long as you know the basics then you can help with the homework and might find that you learn some things yourself...or at least that's certainly the case with me as I speak our dialect of Arabic but struggle with reading and writing! I told them that we have British passports but I want my daughter to take Arabic for Arabs as we are originally Arabs and that was never an issue with the school. Worst case you always have the option to fall back on your British passports and ask for your children to be moved to Arabic for non-Arabs later in the year (I know people that have done this). If you have decided on GWPS, you'll find that the Arabic teachers are quite personable with the parents and will call to speak to you at any time on your child's progress which is reassuring as they tell you the areas where they may need particular focus. That's great. I've just emailed the registrar about it & hopefully we will be accepting their offer this week ? So happy that's out of the way! Can I just ask where do parents whose kids go to gwps or nearby schools live? We had a quick look and found that the area (jumeirah) is quite expensive! I know they have buses but, if we have to use it, I don't want my child in the bus for too long... If you're not insistent on villa living then apartments on the GWPS side of Shk Zayed road are not very expensive if you pick an older building... we used to stay in Jumeirah Skyline Residence and our rents were AED 110 for a 3 bedroom however if you want to go for villas then you will need to look for villas in satwa or al badaa for cheaper rents... but be warned the area is not the best for families as they have many of the older villas being used as shared accommodation among single women, bachelors, etc.

hi some options you can consider for indoor include: - www.dj-academy.ae/ in Al Quoz... they rent out their whole studio and its amazing for a dance party sorta feel - jamjar in Al Quoz... they also rent out their facility though the theme would need to be art based as you would need to purchase canvases from them - al serkal avenue... though this is not super cheap if you're open to having the event in a hotel lots of 3star hotels offer their facilities for as cheap as 80dhs per head... but that would include the food... for outdoor i wouldnt advise the same till at least October/November as it's just wayyyyy too hot if you need any further help with regards to the party pls feel free to pop me a line on horizonmum2@gmail.com

most halls are linked to hotels or restaurants and in the least you would need to order f&b from them in exchange for use of the hall... alternatively have a look at some of the clubs... such as India Club, Iranian Club, etc... they all have halls that they hire out (normally only to members... but they will probably make an exception for the right price)... India Club for example, have a lovely large hall called their Crystal Ballroom which can accommodate 150 people and their f&b charges start at AED 55 for a buffet I'm not sure how the rental system of school halls work... but worth asking some of the larger schools in your area...

to be honest it would need to be wherever is the quickest... that has a direct flight from dubai... would really appreciate the contact details of any agents you might have used as well thanks again Much as I love the North, I would suggest getting married in the South. Sorry I can't help with any agents though. Have you tried any of the big hotels around Larnaca? not yet... looking for any referrals... GE i know you're quite the Cyprus expert :-) any particular hotels or agents that you would recommend?

Was in patchi two days ago and all they showed me were the 40dhs and 60dhs ones. HorizonMum2: We are planning on doing the next one...... Did you sell a lot of stuff? Worth it? (as the fee is 270dhs!!) Any issues? How was it getting your stuff into the park? How far do you have to go from the car park? Do you need a trolley? Any other advice? - Yes you will end up selling a lot!! people (other stall holders) start buying even before the damn gates open to the general public... - Try and pack your items into suitcases or trolley bags instead of boxes... this will make transporting stuff from car park to your table inside muchhhh easier... else if you're struggling they do have men with trolleys available to transport your items for a nominal charge The whole day is a staged process... follow my steps below to organise yourself better... - get there by 5:30am and off load all your items from your car right in front of the gate area... one person needs to hold a place in the registration queue (which would already have a substantial number of people by that time)... the other person can then go park the car and rejoin later - the registration counter starts at 6am (although the queue builds up earlier)... you will need to bring a print out of your confirmed booking slip and any change if you need to purchase extra tickets... you are given two complimentary tickets with every table booking - once you have your tickets you can then enter through the gates... at this point only stall holders are allowed to enter... the general public is only allowed entry around 8am - try and choose a table under some tree shade (remember that the shade will change during the day!) - you can use some space in front of your table (around 1m) and 1/2m on either side of your table to display items... bring mats to lay items on the floor in front of your table and clothing rails to display clothes on the sides of your stand (if you're selling clothes) - other stall holders and some veteran flea market junkies will have gained entry either by taking a table or some other means and will start asking you to sell items to them... no idea what they do with these... they probably buy them from you at one price and sell at a higher price on their own tables... who knows!!?? anyway, if you dont want to sell at this time you can refuse and tell them ur still setting up so come back at 8am - at 8am though be prepared for all **** to break loose coz around 1000 people enter the park at that time ... mostly cab drivers, maids, gardeners, etc... and this lot stay till around 10am... after this the crowd is mostly families visiting the park, etc. - items that sell really well are mobiles, electronics, cameras, dvds, electronic games, laptops, etc... clothes both kids and adults, shoes, toys, etc... items that don't sell well are books and anything you're looking to get a decent price on! - make sure you have change... i always take with me a hip purse that will be on me the whole time (beware of pickpockets) and start the day with a float of 25dhs in 1dhs coins, 75dhs in 5dhs notes, 100dhs in 10dhs notes, 100dhs in 20dhs notes, 100dhs in 50dhs notes, 100dhs in 100dhs note - ideally you want to share the table with a friend... that way they have two people from their side and you have two people from your side and at any given point in time you have four pairs of eyes and hands on the stall (which is highly recommended!) let me know if you need any additional info! edited by HorizonMum2 on 13/04/2015

i just took part in the one in april at zabeel park... huge crowds, awesome day! not sure if they are having one in May or not... unfortunately they don't post it up till the last week of the previous month so you would need to wait for the week of 26th April to see if it's on or not... if it is then it will be on Saturday, 2nd May... in the past they have had indoor flea markets but that is usually for the hotter months - June/July/August...

Does anyone know where / if I can get some decorations and, more importantly, a chocolate egg, that's a step above what you get in Spinneys?? if you're okay with pre loved decorations i'm selling a whole bunch of them (was used at an Easter themed bday last year for my DD whose bday falls around that time)... I can send you pictures of what I have... mostly card cutouts of bunnies, eggs, rabbits... and a few large felt eggs mail me on horizonmum2@gmail.com if interested... we live in jumeirah 2

there's not much of a view but TresInd at Radisson Royal Hotel on Shk Zayed Rd do a great new take on traditional indian cuisine... all the cooking is based on molecular gastronomy (eg. using liquid nitrogen, etc.) so it really is quite a culinary delight... we tried them out at Taste of Dubai this year and were absolutely floored!

This is not meant a negative comment I'm genuinely interested to know... Are there grown up ladies here who are attending the 1D concert? I thought they were of a tween sensation. I know a few people who are taking 4 and 5 year olds to the concert... the mind boggles! Well at least mine does anyway... i don't really see anything wrong in that... not sure if you have kids or how old they are but these days the 4-5yr olds are already quite hooked onto music! my 3yr old already sings along to Katy Perry, 1D, Bieber, etc. all thanks to her older sister... this is a chance for the children to see / listen to the music LIVE and yes i know the show runs late (but heh they're on spring break!) my Dad took me for my first concert when i was really young ... and i turned out ok! ;-)
