Well I do hope they are going to refund the registration fee? It does sound very strange ! Gosh, which school is this (if its not confidential)?

Don't think there's any way to help out the young man - it is a pretty sad situation. But if this company is still trading without a license as you say, you could report that to the authorities (Economic Department maybe, or the police), so that at least they are taken care of/dealt with strictly?

If you don't mind stretching it to 5 hours, and going international, Barr A Jissah Resort in Muscat. Lovely lazy river !! Its divided into 3 hotels, Al Waha is the most economical option, but still very nice !

No I never did find any suitable maid through them. By the way, just to clarify things, they don't take anything from the maid's salary or have anything to do with how much we decide to pay the maid. That is discussed and decided between the client and the candidate. As I wrote already, in most cases Nannies Dubai would never even have met the candidate in person - they just get some nannies numbers off Dubizzle, call them up to see if they are still looking for a job, and then acquire and forward their CV's to us(the clients).

I recently registered with Nannies Dubai, and while my initial impression about them was quite good, I am now very disappointed with their services. They started sending me many candidates for interview immediately after I paid them the AED 3000 registration fee, and I was very impressed. But it soon became apparent that many(or maybe even all) of the candidates were just people that Nannies Dubai found through websites like Dubizzle (where the candidate posts an ad saying they're looking for a job) and Job Wanted classified listings, and then pass on their CV and contact details to me. The candidates were not even screened, as I had specifically requested that I want a nanny who has experience with very young babies, but I was shocked when some of them came for interview saying they had never looked after children(other than maybe their own) before. I was even sent an ACCOUNTANT once ! Many of the nannies never turned up for the interview, many aready had a job by the time I contacted them(which woud be immediately after I was given their detais from Nannies Dubai). I am quite sure that this 'database' of candidates that they talk of is non-existent. Some of the candidates who came for interview had not even heard of 'Nannies Dubai', they just assumed that I contacted them through their job posting on Dubizze. Sorry if I vented a litte bit too much - still desperately looking for a suitable nanny so very frustrated, especially about wasting AED 3000 !!!

Cappadocia Cave Resort was excellent !!! But be sure to book a room with A/C as I know that some of the basic rooms didnt have A/C, and depending on weather, that could be a major issue. Rooms very nice, but one one of the more expensive hotels in Cappadocia.

If you do decide to go to Turkey, try to fit in a visit to Cappadocia as well. Very unique locale, especially the 'fairy chimneys' .

Regarding car seats, the infantt car seats are definitely very convenient to move baby around without waking. And if you've got a car seat base, makes it even easier ! I would say to go for it if you don't mind spending on it. Strollers - I had a Quinny Buzz with my first child, but somehow never warmed up to it completely. Just a bit too bulky, and the hydraulics worked only for a couple of months. I've bought the Bugaboo Bee for my little boy, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE it. ! It is really easy to maneuver, very light, compact,a dream to fold and unfold, I could go on for a while! I would highly recommend it. Just FYI, I bought mine from a website in Netherlands that offers international shipping (and warranty), and the price including shipping worked out just a tad cheaper than buying it from Just Kidding. Plus they have stock available of mostly all colors/styles, so you can choose what you like rather than buying what may be available at local stores. The website is www.babycare.nl

Ive used a company called Plural Architecture and Design for some minor works at home but they do entire houses and other projects as well. I would highly recommend them !! I think their website is under construction(just looked), but if you call on their number, perhaps they can e-mail you their portfolio. Or let me try to find you the contact number.

I love tha Radiance Serum from La Mer. Think it really brightened up my complexion. However not a huge fan of the cream (Creme De La Mer), its a bit too thick if you ask me. The serum is great though

My 4.5 year old is in bed by 7pm on weekdays, sleeps for a full 12 hours and up by 7am. On weekends, she's up till 11(!!!) occasionally but still wake up by 8/9am. Little one(3.5 months) still too early to be on a schedule, but usually down for the night by 9pm.

Hello, I'm reasonably new to Dubai, and living in Dubai Marina. Does anyone know of any good yoga studios in the area, something that's not more than a 10-max 15 minute drive? And are there any specific Bikram Yoga studios around? Thanks for any responses.

I used NanniesDubai (www.nanniesdubai.com) to find a nanny (They have maids also). They take a fixed/non-refundable charge of AED 3000, and then send nannies to you for interview, till you find the right person. They're a pretty good service and will send you many options, only problem I had was they kept sending people who didnt have any experience in childcare(I had specified that I wanted someone who had at least 1-2 year experience looking after a baby), so wasted time with many such interviews. Then I just started talking to the candidate over the phone first to find out how experienced they are before inviting them for a face-to-face interview. A friend of mine used Al-Ahlya Manpower, but that cost a lot more(cant remember, I think definitely more than 7k). But she did get a great nanny(but could only interview over phone as they are mostly recruited from overseas).

Having just moved to Dubai myself, I can give you an approximate idea about rental rates where I live(apartment) and few other places we scoped out. A 3 B/R with a nice sea-view in JBR costs between AED 120,000 - AED 150,000 per year. JBR is in Dubai Marina, which is one of the nice parts of the city(so far for me anyway :) ). Palm Jumeirah rents around 10-15% higher, Jumeirah Lake Towers which is across from Dubai Marina is a little lower. My 4.5 year old goes to Wellington International School, annual fees is around AED 42,000. Looking for a nursery for my little one, the nicer ones cost between AED 25000 all the way up to AED 40,000 per year !!!! Hope that helped a little bit :) , but obviously rentals can be much higher or much lower depending on area, number of bedrooms, etc.
