Can anyone help? The Kodak shop in CC is boarded up - does anyone know where else I can get passport photographs taken?

They are fussy about the passport photos - best get them taken in Qatar. We know someone who bought them in the UK and all were rejected by the authorities in Qatar.

Hello I have just returned after a long summer break to find two 'insect' colonies in a bathroom and bedroom. One 'colony' contained 1000s of small, shiny egg cases adhered to the wall in approximately a 8 inch thin mounded column. The other, similar, but smaller adhered to the side of the bath. The individual cases were hard, black and shiny and each approximately 2mms long. I've searched google images, but am at a loss. Any ideas, anyone experienced anything similar here in Qatar. Needless to say I have removed, sprayed (but may not be effective) and cleaned.

I worked in Ely - lived and still own a house in March. The weather here is great - be prepared for traffic jams. Driving is an experience - but if you drove in Cambridge/London you will do fine! Housing expensive - hobbies can be expensive too - but fuel and food cheap. I never get my hair cut here - I have grown it long and wait till I go home - you will hear some horror stories and woes. Ensure you get good health insurance - preferably one including dental - as this can be expensive too. I hope I have not painted to bleak a picture.... half term holiday - and day time temp 27 degrees - lovely....

we done two things - we redirected our post via Royal Mail - this worked well. However, the direction was to family in the UK - who scanned and emailed important documents. The other thing we done was change our postal address for banks, credit cards etc to that family member. All our utility bills we changed to e-bill. However this was only for a short time as we rented our house out and the tenant was responsible for paying the utlities.

Hi - apply stating husband will be sponsored by his company and is waiting for his residency permit. (The residency permit takes several weeks for him, so yours and your sons will take longer and mean visa runs will have to taken). School places are at a premium - therefore, you may have to submit more than one application and pay the admin fees (hopefully you can claim this back from your husbands company). If currently in the UK - school reports are given for reception pupils - just speak to your school, and organise a copy or letter from the head teacher. Also it may be best that you email the Qatar schools and highlight in bold your son's age, and ask them to be specific about what they want in the report. Hope this helps - goodluck in your decision making. Job opportunities abroad do not happen that often - think carefully what you want.

Thanks for advice and numbers everyone - we had a very good day with Al Farden, very nice - but a little pricey, but excellent customer service. We will definitely go direct to the property owner/manager - we found this worked today.

Thank you for your replies. I understand the resentment of paying an agents fees, but many of the places we have been to will not show us round. They all say the compounds are full. Wether they are I cannot comment - I am not convinced every compound is full....However, I feel the gateman is told to do this..... I will try the contact numbers.thanks again

hello all - I cannot find the thread regarding real estate agent details. I have tried a couple of agents and they do not return calls (usual story). Can anyone provide the name/contact of a reliable 'estate agent' who will return calls and recommend some accommodation? In addition, what is a reasonable price for a 3/4 bedded villa Sf or ff? In anticipation - thanks

Goodluck KarenI - Sorry I do not know about the school - but it was one we were interested in, and at the time of our relocation were told not to apply until Jan 2013. Doha College and Compass are also highly recommended. I wish you luck with your move.

Look for British Trained / British Dental Board or registered with American Dental Board. If you google your 'old' dentist you should find their qualifications. Hope this helps...

Hi Are you relocating from the UK? It is likely the international school may not take your son at this stage in his schooling - he may have to repeat year 10. We have just relocated from Bahrain, and as we could not get the school of our choice we took the heart breaking decision to send our daughter to boarding school to finish her edcuation. Good luck with your move.

Can you recommend a daily newspaper/publication for finding property, or recommend a good estate agent? Many thanks

Thanks for your replies. I noticed only two main providers. Vodafones packages seem complicated. I will look into Qtel PAYG.
