I am really new to this but I went to Satwa last month and asked a taylor to copy a dress and he said it would take at least 6 weeks (it was only a simple cotton shift dress). So I did not go ahead with it. Can you tell me how long you waited to have your dresses made? Thanks so much.

I do this every day, twice a day. Its almost always 20 minutes. I go Al Khail road all the way up to Safa Park and then just go straight across the bridge over Shk Zayed Road and I am at the T junction of Union Coop/Safa Park.... that only takes 20 minutes, then to my sons nursery I have another 5 minutes or so as its in Jumeira 2. Its not such a problem to me as I like driving, and I am always doing something around that area in the mornings so I dont have to turn around and come straight back. Give it a try, you might be surprised how quick and easy it is on Al Khail Road.

http://www.blushandbloom.com/shop/index.php - this is where I bought my nappy bag (the Emily Storksak - its divine and I love it), they are more a maternity website, but the things they stock are really lovely. For baby things I have used BabySouk.com, they have some really sweet things there too. DubaiBabies is really good too with a wide range of products but I am not sure they have nappy bags. I love supporting local businesses (especially local businesses run by women) as long as the prices are not too marked up from what it sells for in the US - otherwise I shop and ship. I have found all the companies above have pricing very similar to what it would be elsewhere.

Try N-Dust... supposed to be very good. Read some good reviews on them. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ndust-Shoe-Repairs-Dubai/179933592029373 N-Dust are excellent!! I had a shoe emergency and they fixed my heel on the spot, I also saw they do delivery and pick - up. I would not hesitate to recommend them. Edited to add that they are located opposite Lulus and near MOE. edited by Ilovechoos on 23/06/2011

From my house in Saheel it took me 12 minutes yesterday to get to Media City! Its amazing now the flyover has opened up. There is one set of lights and a couple of round abouts and you are there! Check out AR its very close actually. JI mosquitoes - from what my friend who lives there tells me it can be an issue but Nakeel actively try and sort out the problem around the lake so its not too bad. The clubhouse has a lovely pool and a gym and a restaurant/bar - I have not been there but heard its nice. Only problem is that being a resident does not mean you are able to use the facilities, you have to join and its not very cheap to join the club (sorry I dont know how much). Good luck with your house hunting! edited by Ilovechoos on 17/06/2011

Head to the center court of MOE (ie the middle) and there are two shops. ZARA, go through the womens and mens sections and in the back you will find Zara Kids, they have everything you will need and a huge range, its good quality (not great) but a nice range of styles. I love Zara Kids, they have a website so you can check what you want to buy and prices in advance www.zara.com (go to the UAE part obviously and prices are in AED) Across from Zara is Massimo Dutti, in the back is their kids section. In my personal opinion its better quality and of course more expensive but the range is quite classic. It could be just what your looking for. Anyway both shops are worth a shot and you should find what your looking for. :)

I didn't say the post IS a wind-up, but some things thrown in the post such as 5 kids in the car. Getting a paper from a lawyer for parents to sign ?? The main question is genuine and I simply avoid it. Getting parents to sign a legal disclaimer each time - where does one draw the line? How about disclaimers for any possible accidents at home when the kids visit? Disclaimers for food allergies in parties... I can fit 5 kids in my car all with car seats as well as 2 adults... why is that something that would be a wind up?

[b'>[i'>[/i'>Well if the bags these ladies are talking about are as good as they say I find it fairy difficult to imagine being stopped at an EU border because of my handbag.[/i'>[/b'> You may not be stopped entering the EU, but you might and oh how shameful as well as illegal. I can spot a fake handbag from across a room and so can the customs staff at CDG. They are trained how to. I find anything where you have to scurry into back rooms and apartments to purchase an illegal item very unsavoury and my husband would be horrified to hear of me doing that no matter how much money it would save him. Be careful of yourselves in these places, its just not smart heading into apartments with strange men to buy illegal goods. I know Dubai is safe but its not worth it for a fake bag. edited by Ilovechoos on 25/05/2011

@Ilovechoos, did you find that "Wink" gave you VPL under clothes lol ? More importantly do you think it made a difference? Sorry Gilly3 I just saw this post. I dont know if it made a difference, for me it just made me feel a lot more confident and a lot less like I was still pregnant - you know when you have just delivered the baby and you still look 4 months pregnant. Well the wink erased that whilst I was wearing it. It also made me feel a bit more stable in my core and gave me support in those first weeks after birth when you feel week and fragile around your middle. I totally recommend them if you just want to make yourself look and feel slimmer. They are like a great pair of spanx. Yes I did have a VPL but generally wore it with floaty skirts and tighter tops, or maxi dresses so not problem. I think you can get ones without the VPL thing. Edited to add I was just looking through blush and blooms website and I saw these slips http://www.blushandbloom.com/shop/shapewear/shapewear-slips/ I have one of these and I will not be without it now and I have lost my baby weight but its a great sucker inner and smoother. I have the half slip. Its good! edited by Ilovechoos on 24/05/2011

Frenzy, on Umm Sequim street sell tissue paper in lots of gorgeous colours. I think they are 1Dhs a sheet but if you buy more you can get a small discount. Its next to Jotum paints sort of in the middle of Umm Sequim street, on the same side of the road as Marina just further down towards Shk Zayed road.

So I have bought a pack of the Tregor Organic Eggs, I have cracked 4 so far and all of them had two yolks. So that is really weird huh? I just cant think that this is a natural organic occurance. Do you think these chickens have had something chemically done to them? 4 eggs with 8 yolks is just freaky. I have 2 more eggs in the carton left to crack. Ughhh. Can these even be healthy to eat? Any chicken/egg experts out there?

I am no DG but I like my house to smell nice!! I prefer natural scents so here are some ideas to start you off: Fresh Basil plants in the kitchen smell great, that is what I have but Mint and Coriander is also nice. Buy a bag of Guavas from the supermarket and put them in a bowl in your kitchen, the scent is divine... way cheaper than a candle and so much nicer. Once they are starting to go a bit old and mushy you can smoothie them! Cut fresh flowers, lillies are really the only ones I buy because if you buy them as they come into the store you can generally get about 10 days out of them, maybe scent for 7 days. Gardenia plants, they are about 40Dhs at the garden Center and smell divine, especially in small places like a guest toilet. Lots of plants in your house does tend to freshen the air I think. I also rely heaps on one of those swishy air purifiers, I forgot what its called but you can buy them everywhere (spinneys, boots, etc). We use the peppermint oil in the morning and its so refreshing. At night I like candles!

I used Bridgeway for a move, they were required to store our things for 3 months then send them to us. Some of our furniture arrived mouldy and very damp, some of our crockery and glasses had been broken too. I also had problems with them on delivery. I would never recommend them. We used Alied Pickfords for the next move and they were exceptional. Sorry I dont know DASA. Good luck with your move!

My neighbour sits in his car in the morning drinking his coffee whilst the maid dusts the car off with a big feather duster and makes sure its perfectly polished and then he just drives off without a wave of thanks or anything. The first time I saw it my jaw hit the ground in shock, now I just give him a scathing look everytime I see him. Edited to add that I know where I would shove that feather duster!!! :) edited by Ilovechoos on 27/04/2011

Twisted Tory, Thanks so much for that contact I will call him. Its so disturbing, I keep seeing them on walks and got Boeker in as a preventative measure (big phobia of rats) and the guy that came said its a huge problem in Saheel, Mirador and Palmera. I think something needs to be done on a bigger scale, there is no point me doing everything I can to protect my house if they are just going to come back over the fence from my neighbours.

Its horrible but there are lots of rats in the ranches. Call Boeker, I have called them to take over all the pest control in my property and so far they have been excellent. They are not cheap, but they are totally worth it. Phone number is 04 331 1789 Dont bother with Dubai municipality, as AR is a Free Zone (or something like that) they wont help you and just told me to call Emaar. Good Luck, its so gross dealing with this type of thing.

I do really want to know why? Because my husband travels to some of the worlds most dangerous countries and I like knowing hes still alive. :)

Should point out that we don't have pets so the boxes were ok. Didn't like the idea of poison but unless you want to shoot them (!) there is no choice. We had rat poo all over the children's balconies upstairs, in their playhouse, all over the toys etc etc... I actually would not mind shooting them. :). Rats freak me out, I have spent the afternoon mentally dropping bombs on them. Will email Emaar, thanks for your advise!

Izzy99 Its on the top floor of GL, I think its level 2. The pork section is hidden at the back but you have to walk past all sort of gourmet delights to get there... a cheese room, sushi, caviar, falafel, salad bar, italian deli, juice bar, butcher, fish monger, arabic grill..... etc. I am obsessed with this place, and you can get the most amazing french yoghurts in their grocery area.

No I dont think its available in Dubai, I got it from Amazon and had it shipped directly to my shop and ship account in the UK. Its a really good monitor the sound quality is excellent. It also has loads of cool features like the torch on the parent unit (such a good idea for checking on your baby in a dark room) and a nightlight which you can adjust.
