hi couch potato, we discussed the white option but his enamel 'content' is so low that it is not an option for us unfortunately. you are right about him being used to work done. let me tell you - if i can ever recommend a pediatric dentist it'll be dr chantal kengo. she is amazing. with her DS is talkative, responds to her questions, shows her where he has an ouchy, opens wide without having to ask twice. she has a way with kids second to none. lovely lovely woman

thank you nobbles, that made me feel better. he saw a picture of richard kiel (jaws from 007 - remember him?) and was so impressed with the silver teeth! i read on another forum that one mum's boy told everyone his silver caps were robot teeth and he loved sticking magnets on them (safely, of course). so there are definitely a lighter side to it all. i am more concerned about it than anyone else. thank you for your kind post.

thanks ladies. apparently the porcelein caps are too hard on the opposing teeth which means they grind them down prematurely whereas the stainless steel caps are softer. we will do it of course because it will save DS's next set of teeth, it's just difficult. i've started to talk to DS about it and he was very interested to see pictures. we spent an entire afternoon looking at google pictures. he seems ok but i also know he doesnt 'really' get it yet. he will once they've been placed but at least by then we'll have had many talks on the subject. thanks again.

it's for myself. i summarize a textbook, then summarize my summaries and then do visual boards and and and ... and it all feels so long-winded. i have A LOT of work to get through in a semester and am falling behind because of all the extra summaries of summaries. just thought if i could speak to someone / go for help, it might help. there must be a shorter way!

Hi Ladies, Do you know if there is someone (or an organization) in Dubai that can help a student unleash certain learning styles? Help with methods of better summarising and exam preparation ... that kind of thing? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i thought one schoolbag that can take his lunch goodies. less things to lose or misplace and less things for him to carry. but then again, it's only into school and out of school that he will carry it (read: mum will carry it) because they stay in one class the whole day. stupid question: do they have any books to carry from home to school? ETA: but now a cooler makes perfect sense. so i have to rethink this whole thing. edited by ilovewine on 23/11/2014

yeah, they are quite strict about that. i have a friend who teaches and she explained to us how difficult it is to have a child in her class that is not toilet trained, so i sort of get it now. to give you an idea - DS is 2yrs 10mnths now, is fully toilet-trained and can pull down/up pants. that's about it. a t-shirt gets to his head and he'll walk around bumping into furniture because he cant get it back on or completely off :D if he doesnt master that by september 2015, he doesnt deserve a place in any school!

Hi Mummycurve1, our DS has also just been offered a place for Sept 2015 (FS1). We picked JPS - and are very happy to have a place - because my husband's children were in JPS a couple of years ago. The school has a really good reputation and we saw fantastic results with hubby's kids. DS is a January baby so he'll be a good age when he starts - no worry for us there. To be honest, if I knew getting a place for FS1 was going to be so easy, I would not have stressed so much. I think (and this is just my opinion for which, I am sure, I will be shot down & lynched) that you will definitely be able to find a place for her in FS2. As an example, I have 3 colleagues - 1 who was just being lazy and couldnt be bothered looking for school places LOL - and 2 who only recently arrived in Dubai - who have all found places - relatively easily - for FS2. Our company do not do debentures so they didnt have that advantage either. Good luck!

Amirah has done some pretty amazing work in UAQ with rescuing animals. The papers make her out to be some kind of hoarder, which is completely false. Other animal rescue centers and charities have come together to foster and/or board (for free) some of these dogs until she finds alternative premises. Please read SOS Emirates for Dogs (or Animals) - cant remember the exact name now! - to get the full and accurate story.

Firstly OP I am so sorry that happened to your DS, it's so upsetting and frustrating when they are hurt intentionally. Perhaps you can now reinforce ways he can stand up for himself that yourself and DH deem appropriate (I'm sure you already have) but maybe get him to do roll play with your DH so he builds more confidence when confronted by teasing/bullying. With a bleeding nose there wasn't much he could do but perhaps so he feels more equipt to deal with the jibes in future. Good luck :) Joyce you have a gorgeous accent :) Thank you!! We should all be proud of our own accents and celebrate that on such a tiny island, there is so much diversity with dialects and accents. Agree that this little lad should be encouraged to be proud of his lovely warm, friendly accent and try and ignore the ignorant little twits. :) as should everyone across the world (filipino, south african, aussies, kiwis etc). It is a part of who we are and where we are from. If it's not soft on your (generic) ear, then keep schtum and respect that person's heritage ... Perhaps your (generic) accent isnt so soft to them either.

apologies LT. :) I never knew people had such an issue with the trolley thing, but again, trolleys are gross anyway, you really wouldn't put things like fruit into them without them being in bags. I see your point but unfortunately it really is necessary and like many mums I do it frequently, when you have two tired kids and groceries that won't buy themselves, it is the best way to get the job done. The alternative is toddlers running riot up and down the aisles which is a pain for the other shoppers as well as for the mum. So I'll keep sticking my kids in the trolley, no apologies on that one. Maybe you could bring re-useable shopping bags to keep your foods cleaner, or put a couple of baskets inside the trolley if it really is of concern to you? Although if you consider everybody's hands touching the fruits and vegies before you buy them, and the packer's hands touching your plastic bags, and given that hands generally are much more germy than feet, then I think you will be sure to wash your goods anyway. I promise that I won't change a nappy on a restaurant table though ;) Although it is a pain when there is no changing table in the bathrooms. No way would I lay a 4 month old baby down on a public toilet floor, I can sympathise with the mother in that story. my son is in the trolley too. i only have 2 hands and if my son starts touching fresh fruit & veggies, walking through isles with glass bottles arms stretched out ... inside the trolley is the way to go. i see it in spinneys more often than not but i suspect many wont admit it after this thread LOL

we recently had a family shoot with barefoot dubai. they were fantastic, our photos are simply beautiful and we paid dhs.999 for as many as we they could take in an hour (i think we spend more time cos DS was enjoying playing in the desert!) there are no hidden costs and you can do your own prints if you prefer. we are very happy with their work. hth

My son is at Little Wonders in Al Manara. I was lucky to negotiate 6 months' maternity leave. My mum came out in month 7th and my in-laws for month 8. DS was 9 months when he started 8am to 3pm nursery. we pay Dhs.37k per year and it's money well spent. we love the nursery and my son loves his teachers (and teaching assistants). we went on vacation last month and he said he wanted to stay at home with his teacher LOL (very tempting! hehehe) good luck with whatever you decide. dont doubt your insticts, they kick in when you least expect it and you WILL as his/her mum make the (right) decision (that is right for you and your family).

for it. my DS loved it and the minute i took him out of his swaddle blanket, his arms and legs were flailing and he just couldnt sleep. i cant remember at which stage i took one arm out, then later another and then eventually stopped using it altogether. good luck with the rest of your pregnancy! Thank you! Not long to go - panicking about everything, including how I'm going to cope when I come back to Dubai, balancing work, no family etc! Arrrrrgh! :-) it's doable. my DS is 2.5yrs old now and we still dont have a maid/nanny (we both work full time, i'm studying party-time and DS goes to nursery). it takes some juggling but nothing to stress about. we will look into getting someone next year when he goes to school as i will definitely need someone at home with him in the afternoon then. enjoy the last stretch, it goes by quickly and then all the attention will be on the little one and no longer on you! :D

JA village is close to JAPS, the garden villas are a different development I think My friend looked at the old ones but there is a waiting list I believe Is that thread up to date as the one beds are so cheap at 42k ( less district cooling) I could afford a 2 bed there! edited by sarahlou123 on 07/08/2014 yeah, that's how i remember it. i wonder how much they are going for. i remember some of them being dilapidated! as an aside: are people still living in the desert springs villas? that place is horrible (especially if you're in the grand millenium hotel looking down onto it!)

dr saab performed my rhinoplasty in 2008 and i couldnt be happier. the results are fab and exactly what i wanted. i was in at 8am and home by 1pm. also woke up crying because i couldnt breathe through my nose (doh) and they had covered my eyes with a frozen surgical glove to help with the swelling so i couldnt see. i was panicking! i didnt have morphine. the most uncomfortable part of the op was having the nose plugs in for a week. but well worth it. i had it done at the emirates hospital opposite jumeirah beach park. good luck!
