Try the iranian hospital at the satwa end of al wasl road very good and medicine is all included,. I always go to the Iranian hospital for specialist care. I can't bother, having to wait for referrals from a GP.

Where did my reply on this disappear to?! I think it's harsh to accuse OP of being cheap because she asked for a reasonable priced doctor! I wouldn't go and see a doctor for myself if I was paying 350 odd for a consultation and then who knows how much extra for tests! Insurance makes a huge difference, and health care here is expensive. Exactly my point!

your Dr maybe? Or do they only treat Madams? The majority of expats here, have insurance. So we don't pay the ridiculous visit charges of 4 or 500dhs! There is no reason why she should have to pay that when she can take her to a hospital or government clinic and pay 50dhs! It costs 150 dirhams to see a GP at a government clinic - not much cheaper than going to many of the private hospitals here. edited by AnonDubai on 27/02/2012 Honestly if I didn't have insurance I wouldn't be paying the clinic fees. I will be going somewhere to get good card and a reasonable cost.

I think the word SHUT, int caps is a bit extreme. This is not the correct information, they are closing on time, just canceling extra curricular activities. Repton parents please your emails. Who, other than you, put SHUT in caps? I said thanks to xmasbaby for clarifying - what's the problem? Time I got glasses! Sorry about that. I just think that the word shut would create unneccessary panic. Now I wish I had said anything either. No problem - think this sand is getting on all our nerves to be honest! :) It is surely driving me up th wall. It's days like these I wish I lived in a flat.

so she is leaving you then? How does the total compare to what she was getting with you..that's the answer surely? No allowance as such given. We just give a total amount. Yeah she is leaving. She is giving her the same salary I was giving her, but she ate with us, had full access to all the fridge, freezers and pantry at home and I bought her her toiletries and gave her a phone card. My maid has taken on a new job and they have offered her 100dhs(!) a month for food and toiletries. I think it is ridiculously low! If you pay an allowance to your maid, could you kindly share what he norm is? Thank you.

One of the best Iranian restaurants in Dubai is Sharazad, Hyatt Regency. Bit of a hike for most but worth it if you like Iranian food. Shahrzad was fab in the 90s! Haven't been there lately.

I'm actually not impressed by it. On the same subject, I've noticed that some local women, and some other Arabs, wax off all their hair from their eyebrows and then get them painted. Can someone explain the purpose of this? Sorry if it's a dumb question... They get it tattooed. The purpose is to make the distance between the eyelids and the eyebrows bigger without surgery and also sometimes to completely change the hange. Usually making them super thin.

The look in the above photo is quite rare now. Mnd you being very traditional I kept my unibrow until I got engaged, and that was in 2001 in Vancouver!!! Lol;) My sister in law only plucked hers after she married my brother - now I know why! :-) UNMARRIED!!! iPad........ahhhhhh not unmarked!!! Lol hahaha;)

I have a question; I've seen a lot of women with the single eyebrow look, but purposely pencilled on or shaped that way (the middle is shaped pointing downwards slightly). I've always thought this was an Iranian thing, is that right? The majority of iranians have the gene for the unibrow. Girls usually pluck them mid teens. So a character in a novel is not allowed to "look bad"? Should all novels with negative portrayals of characters be banned in the nations from which those characters hail then? It's a story, written by someone who has obviously put in a lot of time and effort, and I for one am quite proud to see a book written by a resident of Dubai being published! Just as I'm proud of local bands, artists, designers etc. regardless of where they are from. It is nice to see people taking inspiration from the many cultures present here, in various art forms. I personally wish it hadn't been removed from shelves as it should be taken as it's meant; a fun and interesting novel, not an in-depth factual tome of the cultures of the UAE. That, however, is for the government to decide. I will be interested to see if it's published elsewhere... I didn't meant should be. I just meant its very unlike Arab governments to allow it.
