May he rest in peace. I used to watch him on tv for years and was lucky enough to compete on his show when he came to dubai in the early 90s:( and that's blockbusters!! :(( I still have one of his books.

I just read through this thread, and two things come to mind: 1. You don't know what you have until it's gone 2. Most human beings have an almost infinite capacity for taking things for granted So true PGtips, my mum died 25 days after my wedding and off course never saw my children. What I wouldn't give for her to be with my children or a second, no matter what she would have wanted to do.

what a sad thread - so much negativity.. congrats to the OP - having a baby really is an exciting time, not just for the parents-to-be but the whole family.. sorry, but so many selfish, ungrateful and thoughtless comments here.. i envy the OP - neither my own mother nor MIL got involved in my pregnancies or resulting babies. Our eldest has stayed with grandparents 3 times (and one of those was while i was in hospital having his brother) and our youngest never. I'd have loved for them to have spent more time with us after the births, or any time.. Please OP (and anyone else in the same position), try putting yourself in your mother's shoes - she's just thrilled and letting her bond properly with your baby will be the best thing you can do for both of them (IMHO). What a lovely post Sue.

This is fairly normal for a night out, I don't know where you came from to find this shocking. Oh PLEASE, where in the world is spending hundreds of thousands of dirhams "fairly normal"???!!! Well, I don't know about other places in the world, only UAE, but from doing my fathers and husbands accounts, I can say that this is not out of the ordinary. I don't know if this is something that I would say on a forum, never mind want to even know about it...... Smmmmmmmm! You of all people! I can't believe you fell for that!

BY the way it is a Lenovo and I rather not take it to them, cause I am sure it would cost half the price of the unit altogether, if not more.

My daughter loves to sing and dance. She is almost 8 and is always talking about how much she loves to perform on stage. I am looking for a centre that can give her vocal lessons and also teach dance. Ideally a place where they will work towards a yearly production. I have heard of a couple of places, but would like to hear of your experiences. Diverse Step by step Turning Point A centre in knowledge village (?) Thanks a million. edited by Irooni on 11/12/2011 edited by Irooni on 11/12/2011 edited by Irooni on 11/12/2011

I know exactly what you mean nb18, MIL still does that. She will speak highly of me when I am not there, but in my presence she is always better than me. A better cook, better mum, better wife, prettier, thinner, perfect in interior design, perfect in everything. It used to et up alive, now i just let it pass.... If she has any positives focus on that and turn a blind eye and deaf ear to the rest. I ASSURE you she WILL NOT change, but you can change your perception, not to make her happy but for your own peace of mind. Hugs xx edited by Irooni on 08/12/2011

We have been married almost 11 years now. I never saw my faher in law but we have a very close and tight relationship with my MIL. The other day I was talking to my sister about her, and said that I think we have a very normal and healthy relationship; cause although it may not be perfect it is very real! We have our moments of disagreement, the moments of mad competition of mentioning she loves hubby more than I do, the moments of her reorganising and redecorating my home, our long chats over tea in person and over hours of just living....on Skype...... Now it has gotten to a point that even if we have a very bad day, the very day she is leaving, less than 2 months later I want her to come back, cause I miss her:( I look at her like I look at my dad, he is not perfect, I don't agree with everything he says and does, but he is my father and I love him to bits.... I am very happy that I have reached a point where I can say the very same about her....I love her, no matter what... edited by Irooni on 08/12/2011

Lol Irooni :) This is the new big store that's right outside the metro station opposite the entrance to DCC... think it's about a year old, not the one round the corner from Abshar. My husbands family loooooooove this store. I did buy some cushion covers once and they definitely looked like ones I saw in Iran. Oh MamanAli Thanks:)) I have never been there, I will definitely go and have a look.

Twin Butterfly, I haven't been to Day to Day in a while, but they have all things Iranian in there (and the store opp DCC is new and bigger), so I thought they might. How about the Persian carpet shop in Dubai Mall in the Souk Al Bahar. I recall they had other things apart from carpets there. Alismum, i have never seen anything Iranian other than IRANIANS themselves (lol) in day to day! Where is this day to day? Oh yes, there are Iranian DVDs and CDs too! edited by Irooni on 05/12/2011

Antiques Museum might be a good place to look and it's closer to me. Have tried several of the Iranian/Arabic souvenir shops at MOE but nothing there - maybe Souk Al Bahar is worth a try. Failing that I am afraid I might have to drive to Sharjah ... dreading it already! Thanks Ladies! I would love to go with you, don't want to go alone!:))
