Thank you all for taking the time to write. It really means a lot to me. Trish thanks for your words of wisdom and Daza for giving me a perspective on what my daughter might be feeling. I might give in to this and buy her one in September. It's funny how I wish everyday I didn't have to wear one and she is so desperate for one! :)

Oh thank god one person thinks like me! I don't see the point at all. Forgive me for being graphical, but to me it's like wearing a pad before you ever get your period! MIL thinks I am crazy to be fighting this battle cause it is pointless and her wearing one will just make her happy and hurt no one!

1 Chicken. Hopefully without added water, salt and emulsifiers. Haven't found any in the supermarkets! 2 Tomatoe Sauce. Looking for something without a zillion additives, preservatives, colour, flavour enhancers, E numbers and ...... 3 Breakfast Cereal ( sugar and aspartame free) 4 Sausages. Something that is 100% guaranteed meat! 5 Is there a cooking oil that is better than canola? 6 Alternative for pancake syrup 7 Loaf of bread! One with just water, flour, yeast and salt! Will post this but will add to it later, hope it doesn't annoy anyone :) edited by Irooni on 23/06/2013

No, I didn't! But I have dozens of friends and cousins who have been to public and state schools in the UK. And this is not only my opinion, many, many others feel the same. This is what DESS is like, no one dares mutter a word or the parents will prosecute you. The poster did not ask for positive feedback from parents, who have children at the school! She asked for honest opinions about it and I gave mine. The majority of the children on our compound go to DESS and not everyone is as happy as you are. Just like any other parent who toured many schools, I did the same. And have a right to voice my opinion. Hope that is ok? :) edited by Irooni on 23/05/2013 edited by Irooni on 23/05/2013

I stand by what I have said and would compare DESS to a "good state school". And there is nothing wrong with that in my opinion. Repton, is a huge school. Believe me all of its parents are not on EW ;) I have had and still have my share of issues with it, but all in all, so far it has been good for my children. We have been there since it opened, in our 6th academic year now. I cannot comment on the senior school, I am only speaking for up to year 4.

By the way what is the marble arch ? Pretty sure she means Repton. In my opinion, I think DESS is as good as a state school in the UK. What do you mean as "good as a state school? " Irooni doesnt even have kids there so cant really comment. You will find the only people who have something negative to say are the ones who couldnt get their children into the school. Appletiser, just in response to your comment. My DD passed their assessment in Januray 2008 and was offered a place for september 2008, but I decided not to send her there. It was just not the right fit for us. Besides I didn't slag it off, did I? I just said it is as good as a good state school in the UK, which is far more than I can say for a dozen of the schools here. edited by Irooni on 23/05/2013

Thanks desertrose, thats reassuring :) Irooni this is the one I use when in London and I couldn't believe my luck the first time I turned up and saw how central I was to everything. I was 5 mins walk from Piccadilly Circus and 5 minutes walk from Theatre Land. China Town was at the end of the street. I could go out for a walk and 15 minutes later be going up the Mall and into St James park. I really cant praise it highly enough but then again I am a Premier Inn convert - I just plain refuse to pay London Hotel prices anymore because they are such a hit and miss afair. I use this hotel when I travel alone and when I'm travelling with my son. Its very safe and if you don't stay there, there is no getting in at night. The breakfast is good and buffet style and if you can order whatever eggs you like. You get wifi and there is a good selection of tv channels in the room. I stay at the Premier Inns up and down the country and have never been disappointed with my choice. http://www.premierinn.com/en/hotel/LONLEI/london-leicester-square Ive also rented a house in central London, it was an upstairs down stairs kind of house and that was really fun, there was everything we needed nearby and whilst it was great to give my grandchildren home cooked meals every night - I much preferred staying at the premier inn with them later on in the holiday. The Rain Forest Café is just round the corner and Hamleys is a short walk away as well. I used to love walking home at night when the Chinese restaurants were coming to life. Sounds great. I am planning on 3-4 weeks, so don't want to pay mad prices!

the premier inns are good and very safe as feefmick says. The county Hall one is right by the London Eye and the Leicester Square one is in a great location. some of the others in London are quite a way out. They do family rooms. http://www.premierinn.com There are also serviced apartments that are great - will try to remember the websites for those for you. another really cost effective accommodation option is the university accommodations that are not used in the summer months. There are also training facilities that are not busy in the summer months - I will see if I can find some links for you. Hope we can meet up if you are coming over to London! I will wait for your links Claire. We will definitely meet up, if my plans to come work out ;)

I give my children treats like crisps, chocolates, sweets and things only once a weekon thursday evenings. They hate me for it! I never have a supply at home. For the school morning snack, I give them fruits and veggies. I constantly have to hear things like "why can't I have a packet of crisps"! I don't think anyone can ever make children not like sugar and other rubbish of the sort. They will be addicted to it whether, you give it to them or not. At least that's been my experience so far :(

I used to do facials from 18 to 23 every month. Then I got married ;) I had one before my engagement ceremony and then the next one was 13 years later at a posh salon in dubai (gift). It was a 90 min facial and she was done in a about half an hour and asked if I wanted to use the rest of the time for a massage!!! She was so impressed with my skin and asked how often I do a facial and what my regimen is!!! She was expecting to hear facials every 2 weeks I bet and some strict routine at home. She couldn't beleive it when I said nothing! So. No I don't beleive in facials. I will be 35 next month ;)

Sim, your post goes to show how everyone is soooo different. I got a Samsung galaxy as a gift nad gave up omit instantly. Not even 5 hours of use. I hate it. No way I will ever get my head around it. It is soooo busy and so not user friendly to me! All my friends, my sister and hubby have an iPhone and although I have said I don't like them and would never buy one, I must say I love them compared to the Samsung![b'> I am very, very happy with my basic 100dh Nokia phone ;) I can text with my eyes closed. It does everything I need my phone to do, and then I have my iPad for everything else.[/b'> But I have my 2 sisters and best friends abroad and they hate me cause I don't have what's app ;) just been looking at th e different options and looks like I will buy the Nokia c3 01 ;) very old school with a bit of new :) Irooni, exactly the same with me. I have a cheapo phone now perfect for texting (what more does a girl need ;) ). and a laptop. My son has a blackberry that needs charging every few hours cos it is overloaded with apps. I only charge my phone up once a week. Isn't the Nokia 100AED the most popular phone now?, I read somewhere that it is, that folks are reverting back to bog standard gsms rather than these fancy phones with tonnes of apps that need charging every hour or so. edited by Alismum on 13/05/2013V Oh Alismum I am so glad, I found ONE more person like me in the world ;)
