Confusion, no need to be scared. egg retrieval is done under anesthetic general, well at Dr F's anyway. during the procedure of course you don't feel anything. After the procedure you might feel cramps, for some its worse for others it's okay. Its like really bad period pain. They do offer something for it, if they do take it go home & rest. It will pass quickly after few hours you will be fine. Best luck, I hope everything goes well for you.:)

AdviceSeeker , if you get any information let me know. I would like to know what the service charges are for the villa's. Is it a flat fee or by sq footage? Also am currently at Executive Towers, which is also by Dubai Properties, Empower does the AC, and they have a fixed charge for ac on top of the usage cost. I think its around 600 dirhams per quarter, our place was empty for months and we still had to pay regardless! When complained to empower they said it a Dubai Property thing and all Dubai properties developments incur this charge.

Aussie Girl I went to Dr F, and found him and his team great. I will also go to him again for my second one. The IVF package cost is 25,000 dirhams (that includes all the meds, scans, retrieval, transfer and few blood test after the transfer). Dr F success rate is very high. I also read from ff website that Dr P at the conceive is also very good. Perhaps you can visit that website, there are lot of ladies there who will help you (in particular Sharry). Conceive the cost is around 20, 000 dirhams, bear in mind he is based in Sharjah. Not sure about the one in Al Ain, don't have any experience or know anyone who has used that one. If you live Dubai I would recommend Dr F, is very good and also his clinic is based just of Al Wasl Road (past Emirates Bank and the big Life Pharmacy), so its convenient. Everyone in that clinic is very friendly and welcoming, always there to answer all your queries. If you don't mind the drive give Dr P a shot......everyone in FF say his very good too. Best of luck to all the ladies....wishing lots baby dust your way! :) edited by ivfuae on 26/05/2011

I never heard of a French test for 11+ or selection test. Usually its verbal reasoning, non verbal reasoning, English and Maths. You can buy these sample test papers from WH Smith or Amazon (just do search for 11 plus) Bonds, IPS, AFN, letts these are name of some of the publishers. I suggest your DD start practicing at least 1 years before she has the tests. Also find out from your chosen school or you can go to the Borough the school is located at website to find out what sort of test they do.....cause some schools do all four test others do 3 and some even 2. The test come in 2 formats multiple choice and standard (where you write in your answers). Tests are not very hard, but what makes them hard is time element.....you have something like 30 sec to answer question on multiple choice format tests. The key is speed and accuracy. Best of luck.

Novice , sorry I can't give any tips........but all I can say is that my son is also in the same boat! :( He is 14 months for months and months now, just like your son, he walks around, holding sofa, his fisher price walker toy, car anything he can get hold of. Just like you hubby and I thought any day now he will be walking independently.......NOTHING so far!!! :( On his last vaccination I did mention it to the doc, he says nothing to worry about....as he can actually walk(even if its holding on to something). I did notice though , I have friend who comes over for play date, her daughter is now 1 yrs (in the same boat, she has been walking aided since Feb), my son is more willing to try to walk when he is around her. I guess we just have to have patience and let our babies be. Some people have said that boys intend to be slow developers.......

Tinker bell, Hopefully you wont need to go to another Dr, I hope it works for you this time. Good things do happen when you least expect, so this time will be your time. I'll keep everything crossed for you. :) I would highly recommend Dr F. I will go to him again for my second one. His team are really nice and friendly, they are always there to help. Dr F also, always called back to answer my questions etc. The new clinic just off Al Wasl road is very nice, everything new.....lab etc, with latest tech. Looks like he spent a lot of money, when I had my treatment back in 2009, I had to go to Emirates Hospital in AD for egg retrieval & transfer, but now he has been given license to do ALL the procedures here in Dubai. Tinker bell, best luck. Keep us updated and share your good news with us! :)

nickym1d which doctor are you seeing, if u don't mind me asking? Wishing you all the best! I hope you get 3rd time lucky. :) I go often on ff, though lately its a bit quite! Tinker bell, are you doing FET, here in Dubai? I thought it was banned?? Well I was informed by Dr F. Though the success rate is low, again I read wonders in various forums.....so don't worry. Another patient of Dr F, (we became close friend) had FET last year, Dr called her to say what do with her frosties, (the new law came into place so they were unable to store them). They thought instead of wasting them might as well give it one last shot.....they were not expecting it to work, especially at thawing process only 1 embbie made it!They laughed.....and thought more money wasted for nothing!!! Well what you know they say survival of the fittest....and this one was the fittest........grew into a beautiful healthy baby (born Jan 2011). Never say never. Don't give up hope!

Barmy Army, don't give up hope, your time will come. I also had my son from treatment from Dr F and will be going to him again later on the year for my 2nd one. Like dubai27 3rd time worked for me. Dr F & his team are wonderful. I was just on fertility friends website earlier, lady there posted a wonderful message, she had 3 unsuccessful IVF with Dr P, after her latest BFN Dr P said to her no point spending anymore on IVF, it will not work for her and that she needs to look at donor egg, DEIVF is not available here in the UAE. In her cycle her and hubby gave it a shot! What you know she conceived naturally and is currently 5 weeks pregnant! How great is that hey? Don't give up, from reading various forums it seems anything can happen.....even when it all seems impossible. Wishing you all the best in your fertility journey ladies.

We needed our marriage & birth certificates. My husband also needed his university certificates......first they need to be attested by a public notary (to say that they r original & not fake documents). Birth & marriage certificates given by a UK registrar need not be attested. These documents then need to be sent to the Foreign Office to be legalized (it is based in Milton keynes) We used a solicitor firm in London to do ours, its a bit pricey, but I just didn't want to travel all the way to Milton Keynes. Soni & Co, I think they are based in Strand handled everything. You can google them to their details.

Anyway they took my details and never got back to me. :( Any particular agents? Which Mall?

Cleopatra, I really feel for my son and want some friends for him. He gets so excited in malls when he see''s other children. I feel if I don't do something I will be depriving him, also I am not working so I should make a better effort. But I really find it difficult to meet people here with children of similar age group. Look like this is the best place for that! :)

adaevans, you just have perceiver and keep on trying. I like you not had much luck. :( But my sister swears if you keep on trying it works, as her baby takes both a bottle and BF. At first like your baby, her baby just just screamed, cried etc, then, took it but gagged and eventually she got hang of it. Took several weeks, but she tried to give her baby the bottle couple times a day with small amount, like 1 oz, and also gave sterilised water when she couldn't be bothered to express. Don't use to much force, when the baby starts crying stop, and try another time. Also try to get hubby to give baby the bottle, apparently BF babies , when held by their mum only expect their feed from that special place! Anyway best of luck.

Claire K I use the those stage 2 containers from mothercare. They are easier to reuse, clean and stack up very well in the freezer. You can also buy similar ones in waitrose. Not sure about the ziplock, not used them. Beware don't make too much. My son loved things like vegetable lasagne and spaghetti, which I made in batch, recently two of his upper teeth came...now he doesn't like stuff. I put in his mouth he just spits it out! :( So much food got wasted. Oh well!

Poppy82, Hello.Again.Kitty is right you can give them these things, but read the ingredient list. My almost 11 months old son, recently has gone off baby foods and cereal. I started to give him cheerios for breakfast, but was shocked at level of sugar it contain, sugar, corn syrup, honey plus salt. So you really need to watch out! I go to the organic cafe in dubai mall, they have lots of variety stuff that suitable children of that age.

Hi dubai71, How are you doing? I hope all is well. I was thinking about you and was about to send a message out to you, to see how you were. Yep the 2 week wait is awful, but look there is nothing for it but to wait. I did hpt but they came out negative. Doc says hcg is really low at the beginning of pregnancy, and is not detectable in urine in most cases at 2 weeks. At that stage the only thing for it is blood test to be sure. I think my hcg level was less then 25 which is why hpt were negative. Then from 25, it is meant to multiply in every 72 hours I think, that is the key. So please don't give up hope, wait till Monday. It is okay to have rant, I think most of us were like that. This whole journey is like that. I do sincerely wish you have good news to share with us on Monday. Take care for now. A massive hug and kiss from me. All the best.

shaf , medela swing is one of the best in that market. It is really good, pumps really fast and doesn't make much noise. It is really easy use and to clean. I bought my one from UK, so I don't know where to get it from here. I paid about 80 pounds from Amazon. I did not have much luck with bottle feeding my one though. Health visitors advise was to establish BF first, then around 3 months to offer bottle few times a day, they would cry and spit it out at first, but to continue to offer, it worked for my sister, her baby is both BF and takes the bottle. Babies that use pacifier, take better to bottles. As for me my LO, he just chews the teats and tried the sippy cup with the same effect. :(

dubai71, it doesn't seem that low, I think I had about 6/7 eggs, but only 3 fertilised. I didn't require genetic, so can't advise on that. Sorry. Well doctors say you can carry on as normal after couple of hours of resting. They advise to keep out of the sun, swimming pools, not to do heavy lifting. I kinda lazed around quite bit, in the fertility friends website ladies advised plenty of bed rest, to drink lots of grape/pineapple juice, to eat Brazil nuts etc :). Did the whole lot, thought why not! One of Dr F patients recently had a baby, she had couple of frosties, (before the law changed last year). Only 1 thawed and they transferred that one and she got pregnant. What I mean say is that, it is not the quantity, but the quality that counts. Please don't stress too much, I wish you all the best for Saturday. I hope your successful this time, and hope you have a healthy baby by the end of the year!

salome, mate so WELL PUT. Thank you writing this. I can understand working parents hiring a nanny. I get funny looks for not having a nanny, your husband has fantastic salary why don't you get one, I keep getting. Also it must so hard for you to manage (I have a 9 months old), how do you do it? Plus if you went back to work, you can leave your son with a nanny for small fraction of your salary, is another one I get. Now born and raised in the UK, we are average middle class family, my mother raised 5 of us, cooked, cleaned the house, school runs, manage our education etc all on her OWN! The word nanny is the not the right word to use for the type of nannies I have seen here in the UAE. More like baby sitters/maids. If I could afford it I would hire a proper nanny, they are required to have a certain level of education also. In London my friend has an Macedonian young girl, who barely speaks English, nor can she read or write in English, and her children spend all the whole day with, I would like to know what they children can possibly learn from her?? Anyway some us were not lucky enough to conceive naturally, I could not bare to leave my son with a nanny, I just decided to spend less! I think raising your own children is more rewarding. oh I better stop typing, as I don't have nanny, my son is trying to eat box of tissues! :(

LG, just to add dubai71 is right. There is hardly any waiting time. Dr Fakih spends mornings in AD and evenings in at the Dubai centre usually. All the initial test and scans are done by him. If you decided to go with him for treatment, then the stim drugs, scans and blood test are done by other Sonographers /doctors. Towards the end of the stim period (before egg retrieval), the scans are done by him. and of course the major part egg retrieval and embryo transfer are always done by him. All the best.

dikane, Sorry to hear about your miscarriages. I just wanted to share something, my friend she also had many miscarriages, she was finally refer to a miscarriage specialist back in UK. He told her to back to see him when she next gets pregnant (early stages), he then prescribed baby aspirin and a drug called predinslone to take until she was over 3 months. Anyway it did the job for her. Her doctor basically told her most miscarriage (specially early stages) happens due to the quality of embryos. If the body feels the embryo will not grow into healthy baby it gets rejected. Secondly it could be due to immune factors, your immune systems attacks the healthy embryo thinking its a foreign. Baby aspirin helps thin out blood, so the flow is better and predinslone (used on organ transplant patients), to slow down your immune system for a short period until pregnancy establishes. Perhaps you can ask your OB/GYN about this. All the best. Oh sorry forgot to mention, before her cycle, doc gave her injection to clear up her uterus, though he himself said scans showed a healthy and normal uterus. edited by ivfuae on 23/01/2011 edited by ivfuae on 23/01/2011

Hi lovelygirl , I totally agree with u, IVF doctors are not charity nor voluntary doctors. They are all there to make money, here or any other country for that matter. Dr Fakih is little pricey compared to Dr P at Conceive for example (a close friend went to him and then got pregnant receiving treatment from Dr Fakih). She said Conceive charged 16.000AED but excluded medications, blood test and ultra sounds, where as Dr Fakih charges 25,000AED but that includes consultation, ultra sounds, blood test and most importantly stim drugs. My friend was not successful at Conceive, but says they are good clinic, price difference is very little and she switched as she did not want to drive to Sharjah. I guess it is cheaper to run a clinic in Sharjah then in Jumeriah 1. As for Dr Fakih carting people off to Lebanon, I understand that egg/sperm sharing is not permitted in the UAE, so he does take certain patients to USA or Lebanon. Surely he can't take them unless they want to go themselves. He is not that good! :) He did used to take patients to Abu Dhabi, where he also has in clinic at the Emirates Hospital, for egg retrieval and embryo transfer. He will be opening a new centre (next month I think feb 2011) on Al Wasl Road, as he now fully licensed to IVF here in Dubai. I would recommend Dr Fakih also, I did not want to drive to Sharjah, for the small price difference. The government one here in Dubai was so hard to get hold off, no one picking up the phone, short opening hours, then finally went there in person to be told that they are not taking on any new patients. Anyway went Fakih on some ones recommendation. The BEST decision I ever made. I am holding the dearest person I have in this world as I type this. I have my son, and I would drive to AD thousands times for him, its a very small inconvenience Best of luck everyone on your IVF journey and wish you all the best. edited by ivfuae on 23/01/2011

I don't think the amount is important. Lots people give clothes, I had my baby in London, I was going every other day to Next, Mothercare, Debehams etc to exchange clothes or try to get a refund. Because you end up with loads of 0-3 months size, and there only so much of it a child can wear, not only that they grow up so fast most of the stuff remains unworn. My friend gave my son a bath towel and travel changing mat, both not expensive but every useful. I will be using the changing mat for a quite long time. Best of luck with present hunting.

Hi, The cost is around 16-25000 AED. I had my treatment at www.fakihivf.com (Dr Fakih), it was 25000AED, that includes, blood test, stimulation drugs, scans etc. Just to note you can freeze eggs, sperms but NOT embryo's anywhere in the UAE.

hi MDM Mom, Don't give up. I had my son 2nd time around. The first time, I responded well had (10 eggs of good quality) from that we got 7 embryo's, (BFN). Second time Dr Fakih changed the stimulation drugs, and I had low response only like 5 eggs, with only 3 embryos. The doctors said new drugs produced less eggs, but it was better quality eggs. Anyway it seemed to work as I know have a little boy. One of my cycle buddies she responds very well, she had like 20 eggs. She got pregnant but lost the baby at 5 months. She tired with her frozen embryo's at the thawing process only 1 made it, so they transferred that ONE. Last night she gave birth to baby girl. What I m trying to say is, some times it is not the quantity. All you need is ONE good embryo, good doctor and lots of luck. Both of us went to Dr Fakih in Jumeriah Beach Rd, he has clinics here in Dubai and also Abu Dhabi. He has very high success rate. I am going to him again when my little one gets little older. I know it is very expensive, but I thinks it is worth it. All the best.
