Our daughter lived here since she was 10 years old and when she went back to uni in the UK was classed as an "International Student" and is still being classed as such while doing her post grad. Hope this helps?

Thanks for the replies ladies and am really looking forward to seeing him tonight now. One more question, is there an interval as my husband probably won't be able to get there for the start but was hoping to join us for the second half - would this be possible? Thanks again

Thanks Sarahlou123 for your reply. Does that mean that people staying in the Palm Tree Court can't access the JA Hotel side either or does it work just one way? I assume you are allowed access to the restaurants in the evenings though? edited by Jac on 19/02/2014

Hi Ladies, Friends of ours went down to the Jebel Ali Beach Resort and were surprised that the resort has been split and loads of fences erected. Does anyone know what the initiative is behind this? TIA

As far as I could see this Valet Parking was set up by the Miracle Garden themselves as I noticed a small booth on the side of the road as I drove out. We parked in the car park opposite Gate 2 and there was a local man stopping the traffic so you could cross the road so safe enough. The entrance came in where the beautiful peacocks are so no less of an entrance than Gate 1. I just think it is a rip off to charge to park my car when they haven't even touched it!

I have had my 2 sets of in-laws visiting over the last few weeks and both wanted to see the Dubai Miracle Garden. The first time we visited on a Tuesday morning and there was practically nobody there and had a lovely time. I took the second set of in-laws yesterday and was directed to a different car park and having parked my car was approached and told that there was a AED 30 charge for Valet Parking. I had not valet parked as had parked the car myself but when I told the attendant this he was adamant that I had to pay the AED 30 valet parking fee. Needless to say I got back in the car and drove round the corner and parked in the other car park. I know it was only AED 30 but this sort of thing really irks me and so many people were paying this AED 30 fee as I assume they didn't know that it was a scam.

Not sure where you are living but if it is an Emaar development Emrill will come out and do the repair. I had the 2 fly screens on my balcony doors done and they charged me AED 150 and did it there and then.

Hi Sarahlou No it is down by Choitrams on the corner by the lake. Just to be boarded up but is now just a flat area of sand so I'm sure the people for the Mosque will make use of it on Friday's. Jackie

Thanks Cornish Pixie for your reply but not really what I wanted to hear. The dust generated by Balfour Beatty leaving was bad enough let alone if they start building there. Thanks again Jackie

Hi Sam7 I generally go to the Amara Spa at the Park Hyatt as the best in Dubai but don't know if they accept Entertainer vouchers but do tend do summer offers. Have also been to the spa at Desert Palm which was a lovely treatment but the pool area is not so nice. I'm sure you will have a great time.

We made the mistake of shipping everything over with us and then changed it all within about 6 - 12 months! Most villas and apartments have built in wardrobes in the Master Bedroom but may not have them in the smallest room. We used Allied Pickfords and they will negotiate on price and the service was excellent with not a single breakage. Good luck with the move!

I have been having ongoing problems with my A/C for some time and have had the system re-gassed which used to work for maybe 3 months and then stop working again. Can anyone recommend a service centre/garage who will give some sort of guarantee if I take the car in the have the A/C repaired? TIA

Hi Kateh I have sent you an email about our boat as we are looking to sell it as don't use it since the kids left home. It is an older boat but still great fun and if you didn't want to spend a fortune could work for you? Good luck and I am sure you will love having a boat again Jackie

You could always order from JBH and then at least you wouldn't have to cook. If you give some more details, how many people, including kids, I am sure someone will be able to come back with a suggestion. Good luck!

My mother-in-law was looking to buy one for Christmas but I lent her mine while she was staying with us for 3 weeks and she has now said she doesn't want one? She said she never felt comfortable holding the Kindle for some reason so has gone back to books. Having said that I love my Kindle and can't possibly be without it.

My daughter volunteered for a month in Nepal in the summer and worked at the Happy Home Orphanage. She had a great time and really felt like she made a difference. Not sure 1 week would be long enough though?? If you search on here the orphanage was recommended by another EW member so should come up. Good luck whatever you decide to do. Jac

Hi, I think it depends where you live as I am in the Greens and got Emrill to come and repair mine and they charged AED 100 for each door. Satwa also have a shop that do them for much less but to be honest was happy to pay a bit more to save me having to take them up to Satwa. If you do a search for Fly Screen I am sure you will find the other threads.

Hi, I made my husband go and have his feet sorted out and he hated it. He said it felt very seedy and wasn't comfortable at all but then he is a bit nervous about strangers touching his body so maybe just him? That said they did a brilliant job on his feet! Depends on what sort of man he is to be honest and each person will feel differently.

I had Paul from Space 3 (http://www.space3.ae/) do my kitchen and he did a brilliant job. Turned up when he said he would and the workmen were really polite and cleaned up after themselves each night so can't recommend them enough. They also do bathroom re-fits and I am getting him to do some work for me in the New Year.

We bought some really nice towels and had them embroidered with the name of the boat. I would be careful what you buy as they will probably have most of the things they "need" - keep the receipt maybe? Am sure they will love having a boat and seeing a different side of Dubai.

Would definitely have to be Amara Spa at the Park Hyatt. Beautiful swimming pool, lovely lunch menu and then a perfect relaxing massage. Not the cheapest spa in Dubai but for a full day of pampering worth every penny. I usually have a therapist called Tini but have had many different ones and they are all brilliant. Enjoy wherever you decide to go. Jackie

We have had no major maintenance issues just the standard things that happen with general wear and tear. Maintenance costs cover window cleaning (think it is about 6 times a year), gardening and pool/gym maintenance. We are in Phase 1 (adjacent to the golf course and next to Emaar Business Park) so the apartments are slightly larger than the later blocks and as The Dangerous Blonde said be selective as there are a few to choose from and the ones in the lower street numbers tend to be slightly bigger. Has a lovely community feeling about the place and although the mosque can be a bit loud at times I love the Greens and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Also great for DH to commute to AD.

We bought an apartment in the Greens 6 years ago and still live in it and love it. Maintenance issues are sorted out quickly, security team are friendly and lifeguards are pretty standard. Sorry I can't help you with the question about re-sale, maintenance charges are high but now payable in 4 cheques so not as bad as they used to be. DEWA is paid by DH so don't know the exact amount but he has never complained so guess it can't be too much?! Make sure that the property is empty as when we bought ours it had a tenant and it took us forever to get them to move out and ended up having to go to the rent committee in the end. Any other questions just ask Jackie

We stayed at the Al Hamrah Fort a few weeks back and that was nice. I don't know if the Banyan Tree are still doing their offer but they were doing 2 nights for the price of 1 and it is a beautiful resort in RAK. Only 1hr 20 minute drive but seemed a long way from Dubai. Enjoy it whatever you decide.

The Dangerous Blond - thanks for the reassurance about the resort as it does look nice. I had heard about the sightseeing flights and it is on my "to do list". Thanks for the replies. We are staying at the Gokarna Forest Resort - any ideas what it is like as it looks nice on their website? I had guessed it was going to be humid and also it is monsoon season so a waterproof is already on the list. Our daughter is there at the moment as a volunteer in an orphanage so it is a surprise visit for her. She loves it there and am sure she will want to visit again soon.

My daughter is 19 and currently at Uni in the UK but is returning to Dubai on Thursday and then off to Kathmandu to volunteer in a children's orphanage. Is that the sort of thing you mean or are you looking for younger children?
