I’d still like to know a list of schools that are actually going to open this September and whether any are going to be non-profit. Non-profit....??? other than St Mary's I really dont think anyone of them know what non-profit means.

Hello Ladies :) Good Day! I need your advise if any of you have undergone any ayurvedic treatment or massage for the knee and if it has worked out for you or anyone you may know. My mum who has visited us has developed a gap in the knee and experiences pain if she stands for a long time or walks for more than half hour. Please write in your views or suggest any other treatment that can help her get relief. Looking forward to hearing from you. I totally recommend it. My Mum had the same. My colleague gave us a ctc in Sharjah and the gentleman was able to help her. I would say go for it.

Hi All! My husband had a three-month assignment in Dubai, when he got there last week they told him it might be six mths and asked him if he'd consider relocating the family for the assignment duration. I have a few immediate questions, and maybe you ladies will know what questions I should be asking that I'm not yet :) 1) I hear everywhere that it's required to rent for 12 months in Dubai, yet there seem to be a lot of short-term flat rentals for various areas on Dubizzle - are these shady or not on the level? I checked into the serviced corporate apartments, but 6K USD seems awfully high for monthly rent - I definitely liked the rates I saw on Dubizzle better. 2) what should be my primary concerns about bringing a four-month-old and an 18-month-old ? Would it be difficult to get medical care and/or immunizations for them on schedule ? 3) can anyone ballpark a comfortable grocery budget for family of four that includes eating out 2-3 times a week? I am most likely to stick to the European grocery stores except for fresh fruit and vegetables. 4) we have lived in both London and Hong Kong - is the public transportation via train/tram/tube/metro comparable in Dubai - or is it more bus and taxi based? Or -car? I don't think you will be able to get residency visas for a six month contract. Visas are expensive and take time to organise so I'd be surprised if the company would be willing to do it for non-employees. By the way, is your husband on a visa at all? Is your husband in company provided accommodation? He must be if it's a reputable firm. Just ask them to extend the accommodation for his entire stay and if they want the family to be with him, it's reasonable for them to provide you with a two bedroom hotel apartment. Just make sure the accommodation has a properly kitted out kitchen as many of them don't even have ovens to go with the stove, or microwaves, or sufficient cooking supplies. Without a visa you won't have health care. So you need to check out how this would work. I wouldn't risk living in Dubai with a baby and toddler without proper health care. Will you be covered by an international provider from your home country? If you're coming from an approved country you can easily rent cars. Dubai isn't like HK or London with wonderful mass transit available. There's the metro and the buses but most people drive if they can afford to do it. If you're coming to Dubai during the winter months, it's a wonderful place to be as long as you're aware of the limitations. And yes, it's quite expensive but it can be done more cheaply if you're careful. But you must get the accommodation and health care situation sorted out with the company before making the move here. Actually, companies can get what is called a mission visa which is valid for 3 months and can be extended up-to six months. This visa is for companies that have contract staff coming it to do specific short term projects.

Every country has its laws and customs that are to be respected. What is strange for you or me may be the norm for someone else. Some of the laws listed below are also in effect in the west e.g: Unmarried couple who live together and “lewdly associate” with one another may face up to a year in prison - west Virgina Milan requires that citizens must smile at all times, or face a fine In Florida, it is illegal to pass wind in a public place after 6pm on Thursdays In England, it is illegal to die in the Houses of Parliament In Oklahoma, it is against the law to have a sleeping donkey in your bathtub after 7pm Great if your donkey is awake and just enjoying a bit of relaxation time. Not so good if it has snoozed off in a lava of bubbles. In Canada, by law, one out of every five songs on the radio must be sung by a Canadian Great for Justin Bieber fans, not so great for the sane. Part of the CRTC (Canadian Radio and Television Commission) that for both types of programming there has to be at least a fifth by Canadian performers. It is forbidden to be fat in Japan In the country that brought us sumo wrestling In Brazil it is rude to use the a-ok sign by touching your thumb and pointer finger together. and the list goes on......

Thank you so much for your replies. It is indeed something to think about. sourskittleashnut, you are right quitting my job is not an option right now. wickedangel_78 I can see how the costs will add up. After doing some calculation even K12 would then be a bit of a burden. I feel Like I am stuck between a rock and the sea. I cant even send the girls home as there is no one thee to take care of them. I cant really go back without a job.... I am trying for more reasonable schools but chances of getting in are slim (too many students) and the possibility of compromising the quality of their education. Even though they were in one of the better schools of Sharjah the standard is questionable. When we first came here my girls were already way ahead of their class.

Most banks will negotiate with defaulters. Her husband can contact them and tell them he has a job now and would be willing to take over her debt in return for a lift on her travel ban. He will need to give them proof of employment and relationship. If he has a lumpsum all the better as then he can negotiate a 20-40% discount on the principle. Otherwise he will have to pay a monthly amount on the principle and interest etc. But get this all in writing as banks/collection agencies can be sharks

I used to work for a European company in Dubai. They have the usual policy of 45 days plus you could take your 25 working days annual off. But then it also depends on your boss. I had an amazing one that sanctioned a year off without pay. Then when I was to come back he gave me another 6 months half day. edited by janatks on 21/04/2015

It all depends on the employer. I got an amazing job with an airline but two weeks before I was ment to join I found out I was pregnant. I told them and they said it did not matter. However the day before I was to join I got a letter saying that the position had been cut so they no longer required me. On the other hand it was a blessing as I then got an offer from a diplomatic mission offering me a part time position (which I actually preferred) and they paid all my bills despite me only being there for three months.....so it all depends and what life has in store for you. Be honest and the best will come out of it.

Buy a steamer. its the best and easiest as you have a baby. Steam the seams of your mattress. Move your bed and also steam the wall as they tend to lay their eggs on the wall behind yr bed. Wash your bedclothes in very hot water. Any cloths you may have worn to bed need the same treatment. Then I suggest you also steam any soft area you may have gone to from the bed. They also dont like clorex .... We had a horrible time getting rid of them a few years ago but it worked. Good Luck!

I just received a job applicant for a maids position that we have. The girls sent her cv in English that I have to say is very good. what bewildered and saddened me was that she is a graduate from a one of the better (church run) colleges of Karachi - Pakistan. She apparently works in the household of the VP of a well known bank....as a maid. I cant seem to wrap my head around this. I know jobs are hard to come by but for a smart, well spoken girl (in a country where the literacy race is dismal) to not find a job....or even for the VP to not help her better her life is .....sad. I cant hire her as my boss has changed his mind.... is there anyone out there who could help her?

For something different, DD went to the Music Hall at Zabeel Saray and had a great night. What sort of budget do I have to look at for the Music hall. My mum is having her 60th wedding anniversary and even though my father is no more I always take her out on this day. I have heard a lot about the Music hall and can see her having a blast. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. "Surely we belong to Allah and to Him shall we return" My heartfelt condolences to our Jordanian brothers and sisters. The Quran says “… whoso kills a soul, unless it be for murder or for wreaking corruption in the land, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind; and he who saves a life, it shall be as if he had given life to all mankind.” The ISIS is beyond crazy! First they kill and burn 125 school children and teachers and now this. I am speechless.

Not exactly the same situation but from the perpective of an offspring. My father was a Muslim and my mother is a Christian. Though both of them were not very strict my mother was less so. HOwever when the kids came along they wondered and decided it was best for the child to choose. We were all taught both religions. we celebrated both hoildays, fasted, etc etc. Ultimately as we grew older we chose what we thought was best for us. In our family we have all levels of religious people from non believers to priests to true muslims. We are very opened minded a tolarant because of this. Religion is a very personal thing. yes the family teaches it to you but ultimately it is you who has to wrap your head around it. it is you who stands before God. I think the two of you need to discuss this issue and come to a amicable conclusion.

My daughters went to School of Creative Science. It actually is not bad. The academics is ok, though it could be better. Emphasis is more on the Quran and islamic studies. Girls and boys are separated from grade 4. Extra curricular activities are more geared towards them learning life sciences like sewing, cooking etc. Sports is not a priority though they do have swimming classes from grade 5. But I took them out because of my elder daughter being bullied. I am not a hijabi, we dont speak arabic and are from a European background. The children and the teachers gave her hard time because of this and me. I was always very uncomfortable going to school as I would get dirty looks. I really really wanted my daughter to be taught about her religion so she may grow to love it. I never had the opportunity and so wanted to give this to her. But sadly, the girls would not talk to her or play with her because of me....so it all depends.
