Ok coming from a mosquito infested country I can say the following: -She should sleep with a fan (they cant fly/land on her being flung/blown all over the place) -Mospel helps (available at a pharmacy) -If bitten rub with the inside of a banana. -OD on Vit B complex apparently they hate the smell your body emmits - Mosquito coils help if sitting outside -Mosquito mats (electronic thingy) helps. -Spray the room with mosquito spray (available at supermarkets from Bayer etc) she intends to sleep in and close for half an hour. When she goes back in she needs to slip in to avoid an open invitation. Hope this helps.....

For 6 years old there is a rainbow unit in Sharjah Wanderers club. It is part of the British Guides in Foreign Countries (BGIFC). Rainbows offer activities for little girls age 5-7 every Monday 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. There is a fee of 200 AED per semester. Prerequisite is only to be within the age group and belong to a common wealth country. As the units meetings are held in the Wanderers club there is also a western wear dress code. To find out more you can go through http://rainbows.girlguiding.org.uk/ if you are interested you need to register your daughter online on this https://www.girlguiding.org.uk/default.aspx?page=6263 page. One of the unit leaders will then contact you with further details. p.s. activities under BGIFC are also available for girls 7-10 (Brownies) and 10- 14 (Girls Guides) at the wanderers club every wednesday 4:30 to 6 :00 pm edited by janatks on 16/04/2014

I had a similar problem a few years back. It really got to me so I asked the lady out for coffee and asked her out right if I had offended her. It turned out she felt left out and thought I was usurping her position. We talked about it and it sorted itself out. We never became best friends but we were able to work together.

True, but unfortunately, [b'>racisim is rampant in these parts. Can also be found on EW[/b'> and the OP also displays a certain discrimination when she expects better prices and special treatment because she goes to "satwa: and not to the Mall. Even more reason not to stoop to it yourself. I haggle in some places but not others. It's not discrimination, it's horses for courses. I am not stooping to it...just made an observation. I guess one gets so used to hearing it from one side that one is taken aback when the issue is raised from the other end.

Actually racial discrimination is only part of the post. read the one about the curtain shop. No race issues there......and on another note. I find it funny how indignant a "white" person gets when on the recieving end of racisim..... Really janatks? Why do you find that funny? Surely any normal person has the right to feel indignant at being on the receiving end of racism, no matter what colour they are. True, but unfortunately, racisim is rampant in these parts. Can also be found on EW and the OP also displays a certain discrimination when she expects better prices and special treatment because she goes to "satwa: and not to the Mall.

This is being done through the organisation - Resettling the Indus- They are on facebook but I dont have access so cant put up the link (am at the office right now :) ). So if you are interested to feed a few starving people, I would be happy to take the bags from you. email me on janatks66 at gmail dot com . I'll also send you the link then as I can only access gmail from home...again an office thing.

With the cost of living, govt charges, sponsor payments etc they have to struggle to earn even a single dirham. The whole economy issue has put them in a position where they need to survive. I dont think it is a nationality issue its just a survival one.

Good news ladies. I chatted with my dr and he is happy to monitor you. As long as you can source the NDT/ Amour or T3. He cannot provide it. Chocobella and stylex1 I will make contact with you. If anyone else wants his details please leave your email. He is a GP but a true convert now to this way of thinking as he has been on this journey with me and has literally seen me get my life back. There is so much evidence now that T4 alone is useless. As I said before it is not a Stand alone treatment, you have to monitor all the other stuff too. You won't get better overnight either The first step is to heal your gut with lots probiotics and if necessary going off gluten and dairy to give it a break. Build your iron up. Even higher than normally suggested. T3 will not work with low iron, check zinc, magnesium and most importantly heal your adrenals. Take an adaptogen like licorice root . I use something called adrenastim and adrenacalm. You can buy it online. I won't be around that much in next week or two as my daughters wedding is on 25 but leave a message and I will help anyone I can. I feel fantastic(this horrible flu ) aside. I have come from nearly dead literally I would love to see your Dr and talk to him about possibilities. my email is janatks66 at gmail dot com Thank you so much for doing this for all of us

I had similar issues in School. I joined in 6th grade and everyone already knew each other. Besides I was also diffrent (coming from a mixed mariage) anyway, my Mum got involved in a lot of ladies clubs etc and used to arrange play dates with the kids around the neighbourhood. My best friend is from such a play date. We went everywhere, did everything together so much so that people thought we were sisters. I would not have it any other way. The girls in school got used to me and I them but we never really became close. Now after all these years FB is bringing them back in my life but my play date buddies have been with me through thick and thin....anyway, this is a thought and may help.

I just bought a bag of dress up cloths from a lady leaving dubai. It has loads of stuff for girls. Fairy, princess, monsters, witches, capes, haram pants, belly dancing stuff, dutch girl, thai girls etc etc.....my kids love playing with them (age group 5-10). I am happy to lend items out...though we do live in Sharjah and so would expect it to be picked up.

My company is closing their branch in Dubai. They just told us...3 days after I signed a new contarct for a bigger apartment and made the payment :( .....Boss said he will assist where he can for a job. Most of the other colleagues have already found a position in the other offices in the region..ok they have been longer with the company. I have only been with it for 2 years. What happens when one is made redundant? ....with no end date (they dont know yet when it will close) We only expect it to close in May as that is when the tenancy of the office ends....am confused, and its just sinking in.

This seems quite common here. We have neighbours with two girls 11 and 8 and a boy of 5. They all go to afternoon school i.e. 3-9. They sleep at 5ish in the morning and the children are seen at all hours of the day roaming around the area. Granted the supermarket is in the same building but honestly I would not send my girls shopping all alone.....and they are not the only kids out and about at midnight. They think I am an Ogre for putting my girls to sleep ay 7.30

Then decided to up my hours so they agreed to a 80% contract with housing, free flights and everything.....but all good things come to end :( ...they are closing down and so have to look for a job again....

I also had to go back to work so I kind of weaned my DD off the bottle i.e BF her before I left for work and then my Mum fed her the bottle during the day. If she did not take the bottle she was fed with a spoon. When I came back she was BF again. This worked out pretty well. Infact she got so used to the bottle after a while she did not want me anymore :( It may a take a few days for your DS to settle down and know this is his best bet so you really need support and be strong. If you are going cold turkey try and stay strong, giving in does not help at all. If possible take a few days off and leave your DS with your Mum or his father. It worked for me but then my other DD was already 1.

Hi, I just started something new (for me) it is called e-fit which is part of http://firstsaltroom.com/ I am a total convert. What they do is they hook you up to a machine that sends electric pulses through your main muscles so making the muscles work harder. You do a session of 20 minutes but once you are done its like you have done an intensive workout for 90 minutes. After a few sessions I already see a big difference and I am not hurting my joints etc. It is supposed to be brilliant also for people who are unable to do any exercises, with disabilities, obese and unable to move, kids, old people etc. You do this with a personal trainer......its a bit pricey but I got my vouchers from Yalabanana so was do-able. This is something new to me. But is it safe?? I think it is. It is monitored by the personal trainer. I am usually pretty scared of these things but am loving it. I am finished in 20 minutes flat. Two classes a week and getting stronger everyday. I guess the best thing would be to go there and have a talk with the trainer. Electric pulses sounds scary. edited by janatks on 27/02/2014

Ladies, Thank you for all your support about my DD and the issue I had with her previous school. I am happy to report I changed her school to a UK curriculum one and in the 4 months that she has been there she has started to read and write short sentences. Counting to 100 and adding! I was knocked over when I went to her school for a PTA meeting and I saw her work hanging there. From 0 to this in such a short time!! and the other school said she was not ready and had to stay in Kindergarten another year!!!!!

My Boss gave me a watch to sell for him. Its a ladies watch and the brand on the box says Christian Or Jewellery and Diamonds. He did not say how much it cost or anything. Either he won it at some event (reason why I cannot call the company) or.......So, after googleing the brand all I got was that it is Swiss technology made in Lebanon....Its squiggly and has a diamante (Real ones????) frame.....so the question is has anyone heard of this brand and what price range would they sell at.

I have always worked but its understood that the household is run by DH. I have full access to his account/cards etc. I used my own money for luxuries when we are both working and I use his account when I take a break . At your sons age you dont have to worry. Kids can pick up 5-6 languages in one go and not be fazed. Infact this is the best time to teach them languages. I grew up with English, Urdu, German, Sindhi and Bengali with a smattering of Italian, french and spanish. Though I have forgotten Bengali and did not get much better with the latin languages its been a blessing. I also love seeing peoples eyes pop when I speak a language they are not expecting me to. Believe me it will look great on his college application ;)

It's funny I was thinking about this earlier this week, how it's good to share the love. Someone gave me their ticket stub this week which was nice. Today I brought in homemade caramel shortbread for my colleagues, tipped the Aramex shop and ship man and bought my colleagues lunch and coffee. This weekend my friend and I are cooking for labourers. I think it really makes a difference to add a bit of kindness to the world :) Hello, just wanted to ask where will you be cooking? Is this a private affair or can anyone volunteer. I am not a great cook but would love to help.

Lovebop, most schools teach Arabic in Kindergarten or at least the basics. I am not sure but I think childrens garden are bi-lingual in other languages i.e. French and/or German. If you really want your child to learn a language properly/completely the best way is total immersion. Put her into an Arabic speaking school. At KG she would be forced to learn the language while she learns Englis/Urdu at home. It can only help. A friend of mine who spoke only English and German at home was put into an Urdu medium school until grade 2. She can now knock you down with her vocabulary....we speak English, Urdu and German at home I put my daughter into the German school for Pre-school and K1 (in Sharjah) and have recently moved her to KG2 in an English school. She can hold intelligent conversations and has a totally cute German accent. I am not sure about the Agha Khan school but from what I heard they have a low teacher/student ratio which is good but on the other hand they are pretty new.... edited by janatks on 29/01/2014
