Do you send your kids on camp Lolacat? If you can afford it do they go? or do you not send them on principle and they miss out? Just interested to know. I personally don't know of any children in Dubai from an International School going on an Ecoventrue camp at the age of 7. Maybe the local schools do ( I don't Know) but all others I believe are year 4 or mostly 5 onwards. I have a 7 year old and believe me she would love to go if she had the chance. My kids do many varied after school activities but this does not include staying over night away from parents with their peers which is what school camps offer. They would not be "school camps" if they were not held within term time. As for cost, yes they may be pricey ( I have 3 kids so yes I know) my eldest has been on Ecoventure 3 x and my middle one will be going in a few weeks time. Unfortunately thats the cost here so not much you can do about it! Love it or leave it! My older ones have done camps in Europe and school specialist academic away (field trips), which were excellent and great value for money, factoring what they learnt and what they did. Europe/US/Canada has some amazing summer camps for kids and extremely reasonable re price for what you get. Children mix with children they have never met and get to learn lots of new skills as well as getting immersed in a new language. For example last year one of mine attended a camp for 150 euros for the week!! On principle in answer to your question as i see them as far too expensive. A tent in the garden and some friends over for younger children is just as much fun and zero cost. And yes some schools offer from year 3 which is 7 to 8 years. Not to get off the topic lolacat...but where did your LO to camp in EU. I would love my DD's to go and for that price I could actually afford it :)

Yes, mine does. Its unusual as my husband is Pakistani ..but was brought up in the States. Fridays is his day in the Kitchen. He also washes and vacums. He actually quite enjoys it. Oh yes, and he tidy's up the family room before going to bed every night. :) The cleaning of the pet cages is also his baby. edited by janatks on 28/01/2014

Having had adult chickenpox last year along with my three daughters 3,5,9 I would definitely advocate getting it when you are a child. They had no fever just the rash and were bouncing all over the place while I was in a living ****. Chickenpox vaccine is not a mandatory vaccination and therefore it is not actively offered by the doctors. If you want it you need to ask for it (a lot of people dont know or dont bother asking). A lot of Dr.'s also advise against too many vaccines for children as with every bit of chemical you put in their body you are also taking something away from them. When I was younger I used to hear about chickenpox play dates i.e. parents used to send their kids for playdates with kids with chickenpox so they could get it over with....anyway, my two bits.

Khaadi has some nice ones in their Khaadi Khaas section and totally appropriate for wedding guests. They have a sale on so go quickly. You can also find some nice outfits on Al Wasl road at a place called Ensemble. They are a Multi-label fashion boutique in Dubai catering to mostly Pakistani expats. Prices are reasonable as they are practically the same as in Pakistan. Alternately you could wear a Sari if you dont wont to speand too much on an outfit you may not wear again. You can then get the sari converted into a lovely western outfit later.

Im more inclined to think there's been some confusion and its mascara streaks on the towels. I'm inclined to agree... Nope! the lady admitted to the crime :P Nope :) I'm sorry but I'm still not swallowing it :D But that aside it was really bad form for any ref to have been made to the guest concerning any marks left on laundry be it bedding or towels. Especially considering they were almost strangers. I just think its one of those things where discretion and a mature attitude helps. It doesn't mean however that that you can't be flabbergasted about things at the very least but I think thats as far as I would go with it. I was talking to the maid in the kitchen and the lady walked in. We were discussing how to get rid of the streaks and she was the one who told us what they were. So, no I was not being a rude, it was by chance that I found out.

I have done it and one of the girls I was with didnt even notice! Just looked like I was holding my daughter. Obviously wasnt flashing my breast around but there is a subtl way of feeding and I would never cover my daughter up when feeding, I think it is a dreadful thing to do Obviously it was not very subtle or no one would have noticed. Besides as AnonDubai says there are more than enough feeding rooms around why put yourself and others in an awkward position.

the easiest thing to do is download a printable party kit for your theme of choice via etsy.com here are a few links for you to look at... I do this all the time so if you want me to organize this for you I can... just pop me a mail on horizonmum2 at gmail dot com I tried these and they were fantastic! My kids were over the moon and now I will always work with these links....so much fun. Thank you so much!

Have tried an oil wash? I tried it a few weeks ago and now swear by it. Essentially the oil-cleansing method involves washing your face with, well, you guessed it: oil. when our skin is stripped of its natural oils, it produces more oil to compensate. For those with oily skin, this means more breakouts, blackheads, and clogged pores, aggravated skin. Here’s a basic chemistry lesson: like dissolves like. Hence, oil dissolves oil. The oil-cleansing method is using oil to naturally dissolve the dirty oils on our skin without stripping it or using harsh chemicals. Genius, right? http://www.crunchybetty.com/nitty-gritty-on-the-oil-cleansing-method

I dont think so. I think they need to inform you in advance. AND if I am not mistaken the price increase can only be done with the consent of the ruling body e.g. Ministery of Education (though I dont know if they come under that) and they can only do this at the start of the semester.....you will have to check up on this.

I agree with Lolacat. You need get your routine sorted out. At 5 months your baby should have been sleeping most of the night. You will have to give up your late night outings for the good of your child and yourself. Try and keep your daughter up during the day for longer so that her nap times shift (this is going to be a slow process). Let her learn to self sooth. Feed her enough during the day so she does not need a feed too often at night. If you are breast feeding her you need to make sure she has her whole feed. Tickle her feet, pull gently at her ear, wiggle your food supply anything to wake her to get her sucking again. The thumb rule is to give her around 15-20 minutes of each side. If you are bottle feeding well then that makes it easier. At 5 months you can already start with a rice based cereal (Do not use wheat based until 6 months) Please check with your Doctor to make sure, mine advised me to go ahead with 5 months as she felt my DD needed it. Feed her before you put her down for the night so her tummy is full. This way she will sleep longer. In the day take advantage of her naps. Go out with her sleeping in the pram or invite a friend over for tea and a chat. I used to get this lady to come in once a week to pamper me. Man/pedi's, facials etc.

Try applying castor oil on the affected area. It is an excellent anti bacterial. My skin was getting really bad with blemishes, pimples, freckels etc and then I stumbled across oil cleansing and what a diffrence it has made it my skin. It is conditioned, clean, soft and a lot of my brown spots have faded. See http://www.fortheloveoffoodblog.com/the-oil-cleansing-method/ for details. Pure almond oil for under the eyes is the best specially at your age when you dont want to stress your skin with chemicals. That can all come later when you are older.

If I was you I would return her to the agency. She is taking you for a ride and is loving the fact that you are bowing down to her every demand....even to the point of asking you for cooked food at 4.30...LOL I would not do that for my husband. If he cant eat at the designated times then he has to get his own. I personally have had phillipino maids and they all have a chip on their shoulder. I now have an Ethiopian one and am in love with ther. She is clean, efficient, responsible with my children and speaks well. Never asks for anything and despite her not being able to cook she makes basic Ethiopian fare that we actually also enjoy. She is so helpful and hardworking I enjoy treating her like one of my daughters and do things for her.

I agree with Mrsb. if she is gaining weight as she is supposed too and does not have any health issues that means she is getting what she needs. Children of that age have an in built health monitor. However, if you still feel she needs to try different things then try cheesy scrambled eggs. Just blend the eggs with shredded cheese, milk, salt and pepper. What I also used to do with DD (who drank anything in a bottle but hated anything else at that age) was boil mild vegetable like white pumpkin with milk and honey. When cooked through I blend it to make a milkshake. She would happily drink this thinking its a milk shake. Or...make up stories about the food. My kids LOVE brocolli because I told them they were baby trees and we were giants etc etc.

Hello, we took our daughters out of their school because of massive bullying issues and have been looking for a school. Since the schools we applied to have still not come back to us I may have to look at home schooling until then. I already started them on Time4learning. They were recommended on the UAE home schooling site. May I ask which home schooling system did you opt for? Does one have to notify KHDA/MOE about this? I would really appreciate your feedback as I am completely at a loss. I followed the British and Irish Curriculum with my 2. We didn't have to inform the KHDA that we were taking the children out of school but now that we're (hopefully) going back in Jan I've had to write a letter to them explaining why we took them out etc. This info was on the DUNEHA website. Regarding K12, while many people are obviously very happy with it, for us the fact that its an American system and demanded so may hours work a day meant it wouldn't work . Homeschooling in Dubai is not illegal but it's not regulated either. That makes it a bit of a grey area I suppose. Will update further when we hopefully get the all clear from the KHDA. Sorry your children had bullying to deal with....horrific for you all Im sure :( edited by darlingboys on 16/12/2013 edited by darlingboys on 16/12/2013 Thank you for the info. I called K-12 but they only offered me a whole years curriculum. I wanted just a semester at the most till my girls get into a school. With both of us working is hard to supervise. Thank you for your kind words, my 10 year old was very upset and it had a trikle down affect on my other two. Now they seem a little more relaxed. Hope the schooling can be sorted soon.

How do you all get your kids to sit down and do all the work? I've to push mine to do their homework sometimes and have had great plans for some revision in the holidays with special rewards etc but it's often such a struggle I've given up! We just started so they are still excited about it. They love the interactive classes so I am hoping they will stay focused. But yes, it is tough specially since I work and am monitoring them from the office. You could maybe register with Time4Learning.com for after school help. I think it is pretty good. Khan's academy is excellent for higher classes (My DD's are in grades 2 and 5)

You are right, Ramadan should not be the only time one gives charity. We should all do it all year around if we can. People need and appreciate it at any time. These people do some pretty good/interesting stuff http://www.volunteerinuae.com/ as as the www.adoptacamp.com people. There used to a Karama Kitchen which from what I understood closed down because of the municipality regulations. You could also go to a indian/pakistani restaurant and arrange for them to make food packets which you can drive to camps and handout or handout at construction sites. Just to keep you updated. There may not be homeless people here in the conventional sence but there are many many families who lost their jobs. Or families who have been here for the past few decades but since their breadwinner died or sponsors abandoned them they have not been able to go home. Without a visa they are unable to get jobs and live hand to mouth. some of these families have never been to their home country and would not know what to do if they were deported....its a sad sad situation. You dont need to do anything big. Even a kind word or a smile to some would be like a gift.

Yes, I think so. Depends on what you are selling and what you intend to get back. Anything over 100 AEd will be hard to get rid off so suggest you use Dubizzle for that. Clothes and shoes is easy. Trinkets and kitchen stuff go pretty quickly too. Keep your prices reasonable and be prepared for some haggling.

I changed my DD's school this year. They hate the new school and so do I . We had problems with bullying etc so have taken them out. Was not a problem in so far that they will stay until end of term (another few days).Unfortunately, I dont have another school that will take them. Besides the costs are crazy high and now that my husband has been made redundant again I cant afford it. So am looking at home schooling. I work full time so this is going to be a hugh challenge.

KenzaB, I am so sorry to hear about this. I too have been through something similar though my husband is the love of my life and we have an amazing marriage so that helps a lot.... First of all you learn to be strong. Remember God does not give you any trial that you cannot handel. Please tell us what your qualifications are maybe someone can help. Then you need to move your cheese.... For your self make a list of your strengths. Right now you need to generate funds. So go online and check all short term/part time/possible employment etc. no matter what it is. You are in marketing right? well you can offer these services as well. There are loads of crafting and xmas fairs right now how are you with cooking/baking/crafts what about teaching? If you are well educated and have your own visa a lot of schools are looking for teaching assistants and temps. Tutoring? One of the best and most important things for you professionally would be networking. (My husband got his job at one of those). Try internations, ameinfo (if they still those), the different business councils.....let me know if u want to talk ....good luck Infact a lot of business councils assist job seekers as well. Go on their websites. edited by janatks on 05/12/2013
