Francesca, Try the consulate and business council websites. They usually have jobs listed there. Or try all the good headhunter. They are always looking for Sales/Administration/Reception. Departer.com have some assistant jobs available. Check dubizzle.com for rooms. Getting a place short term could get pricey....anyway, good luck :o)

Unless the children are badly behaved or very bad examples for your children, why not let them play together but you would need to teach him not to walk into your home uninvited as this he may not learn in his own home. A little bit of kindness and friendship will go along way and will never be forgotten. It takes a village/ society to raise people in a community not just one owns parents ( something in modern life we appear to forget at times) . Good luck what ever you decide. edited by McB on 26/01/2013 A BIG like

I am half Pakistani and half European. I grew up in Pakistan and had ultra conservative parents (Dad a Sindhi Wadera). The trick it get them to let me wear what I wanted was to wear fusion cloths. Jeans with a longer top (now a days some really cute stuff is available) No revealing necklines, sleeveless or crotch showing cloths. These are available in western cloths too. Some very smart. I would also take a leaf of the Egyptian/Syrian Women fashion books. They wear western cloths but keep themselves covered so that no one can object at the same time looking pretty ooh la la. I love the way they tie their head scarfs. You need to take baby steps to evolve into what you want to be. You parents are old school and an overnight change terrifies them. Have patience with them. Try out new things without abusing their sensibilities and soon you will see they will come around....and I also agree with AmyAus82, try and show them that you have truely grown up and that they can trust you not to shame them.

White vinegar is a cheap, and arguably, better alternative to cleaning products. A capful in your bucket makes the floors look way better than floor cleaner and is also good for getting rid of lime scale on taps/sinks etc. also good for mirrors! Make your own cleaner - Orange peels, vinegar in a quart jar, let sit for 10 days or so...strain out the liquid and use as an all-purpose cleaner. Easy, cheap, natural, smells good!

Every child is different and are ready at different times. My first born took her time. We got her used to the potty by take her with us to the loo so she could "do it" with us. Or (I know it sounds dumb but....) we realised she woudl go to the potty while watching her favourite tv programme so we would put her on the potty then. After a while if she wanted to go to the loo (and oblige us) she would ask for "kaka-tv". Our second child just could not stand having her nappy soiled or be so close to her potty so she walked up to the adult toilet and "asked" to be put on it.............so, chill, 2.3 is still very young. She will let you know when she is ready. The idea of a child seat is a good option

When we are late or my DD makes a fuss about eating I make her a banana/honey and raw egg milkshake. She enjoys her milk (gets her nutrients) and loves drinking from a straw...quick and easy.

We were in Zabeel Park recently. They have a fab bbq place very close to a play area and toilets. Entry is from gate 3. Turn left and then left again. Walk along the path till you get to the play area. It has a nice grill with a table and benches. There are about 8 or ten such canopied niches there. its a hugh park so loads of space and hardly any over crowding ....

Thanks ladies, you are right honesty is the best. I have already spoken to her about periods in general when she was about 8 because she asked but I think I will buy her a book that may help as well.

My old neighbour in Sharjah's 15 year old son is now a father of a bouncing baby girl from a 40 year old Filipina maid! She would creep into his room when the family was asleep (he had two other siblings sleeping in the same room.... I nearly fell of my chair when I went to see them after a few days and the Mum told me....the maid fled to back home but .....the horror.

Hi, I just saw on volunteerinDubai.com pages that they have a bi-weekly volunteer programme with Helping Hands a home for abandoned children with special needs. They need assistance with house keeping. Timings are 7-10. Have a look :http://www.volunteerindubai.com/event/974-helping-hands-senses-residential-care-home-16th-may . Otherwise, I read in a magazine recently that there is this lady in Karama who cooks for the under priviledged in the area and offers them a meal without prejudice. With so many out of work people this is a welcome relief for them. Another lady in JLT cooks for the cleaners of her building and surrounding buildings ( I am not sure but I think it is once in a while but cud be regularly). With these boys living in cramped conditions getting to eat only what their canteen dishes out (not very wholesome or tasty) they are grateful for a home cooked meal. I thought this was an amazing concept.

Another option that you can look into is the gastric sleeving. Sleeve gastrectomy is a surgical weight-loss procedure in which the stomach is reduced to about 25% of its original size, by surgical removal of a large portion of the stomach, following the major curve. The open edges are then attached together (often with surgical staples) to form a sleeve or tube with a banana shape. The procedure permanently reduces the size of the stomach. The procedure is performed laparoscopically. Three of my friends tried it and have succesfully lost a lot of weight and are very happy. Most of their weight related illnesses have also disappeared. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) requires a body mass index (BMI) greater than 40. This is the equivalent of being about 100 pounds overweight for men and 80 pounds overweight for women. People with BMIs between 35 and 39 may also be candidates for weight loss surgery if they have obesity-related illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol. Your friend will need to get a through check up....I am not sure if they do it here in Dubai ( I am sure they do) but my friends went to Pakistan where it cost a fraction of the price.

My three little ones go to an amazing Dr. in Marina. Her name is Dr. Shireen and sits at the Marina Habtoor executive towers in the Emirates Clinic and she also sits at the Emirates Hospital, beach road. I am not sure when and which location she is available at during the week but I usually go to her on saturday afternoon to the Beach road branch. My kids love her, she is gentle, and makes the kids feel totally comfortable....even when they get a shot so they dont mind too much. edited by janatks on 17/12/2012

I am not emirati or even half emirati but I am half European and Half Asian. This half/half issue can be found even in in the East. When I was a kid it was very "in" to be a half/half and all the other children wanted to be my friend. Then things changed and being pure bred was more and more important. Yes, we were great for a good time and to be seen with but God forbid one of the boys wanted to marry one of us. and if one of us had a job!!!! ....it was.. she must be a bad, because her mother is a foreigner. Because of this more than anything my Mother was extremely strict. No boy friends, no going out alone, nothing without parental supervision ....yet I was "bad". I hardly had any proposals that were worth it. Only from dirty old men who wanted a second wife.....well... that is all blah blah. If a child is taught well and given a self worth it will not matter because there is always someone out there for them. I have been married now for 10 years with three cute little girls and I am still heavenly in love with this pure bred who recognised my worth. BTW I have not seen the documentary but am going to make sure I watch it....Thank you

Try Brain O Brain. They teach children a skill development programme, where they nurture the children’s brain to develop some of the foundation skills for learning such as Memory, Visualisation, Concentration, Listening Skills, Learning Ability, Creativity, Self Confidence, Speed & Accuracy, etc....most of all Self Empowerment. They teach the child the use of the Abacus which is like a brain gym. Amazing results.....supplementary activites offered are chess classes. Have a look...http://www.brainobrain.ae/ My daughter goes there and I am amazed at her thought process and skill that she has developed. Also great for ADHD kids

Hi, Once you get to Satwa you will have to take a right (one way) keeping to the left keep driving as if you are going around a massive round about. (or just go straight down coming from Ridges hotel. Coventry is in an alleyway (between two buildings). The shop on right (when facing the alley) is called Suroor (Cloth shop). This is diagonally across from the government clinic which is on the left of the road. Just before the traffic light. Hope this helps :o)
