Just to say that I drove past the house loube mentioned - it is on Petunia Lane not far from me. It has a sign saying 'RENTED', through Square Feet. Empty though and has been for a while, so maybe worth giving a call in case their situation has changed. That one would be very close to nip round for a coffee, Sweety beety!!!!

Still keeping my eyes open for anything up here, Sweetybeety! I was speaking to an agent last week who said the GC bungalows are in demand and he has more buyers than sellers at the moment. Dont give up - like Monnie, we had lots of headaches before finally agreeing the purchase of ours. We nearly gave up and rented for another year, but so pleased now that we made the move, as we love it here. edited by JayBee on 03/06/2012 edited by JayBee on 03/06/2012

We also saw Nita Maru at the Wills Specialists. She was fantastic and explained everything, including the need to appoint a temporary guardian for children here in Dubai in the event of both parents dying - also the need to be registered with the British Embassy here. (Did feel a bit daft not knowing this, but we were never told!) We have wills in UK but my understanding is that they wouldnt be recognised here. Our visit to Nita was quite an eye opener!!!

Sweetybeety, will keep my eyes open, but in the meantime, can recommend Allsopp & Allsopp Estate Agents. A guy called Darren deals with all rentals and sales in the Green Community and was very knowledgeable, reliable - and patient!

I just read this entire thread and I am so sorry to see that you have lost your Father. Having lost my own dear Dad in similar circumstances 3 years ago, I can imagine how you must be feeling - like your world is upside down. I just wanted to send my condolences to you and your family at this very sad time. edited by JayBee on 15/05/2012

We have recently bought one of the bungalows in Green Community West and really like it here. My kids are older, but we love the open space for them to play and explore in safety. The size of the rooms are really good, especially when you compare to what ypu get in other areas (and we spent months exploring all options!) Apparantly the local school and nursery is good, although our children go to DBS. The roads are getting better all the time, so access seems set to improve in the future. It does seem that the prices are going up here as people are starting consider this area as another option as it's not as far away as they thought! Totally agree with loube - it's a lovely place to live!

Thank you for all the information, Ladies!! Very useful. I had heard that Banyan Tree is lovely, but hadn't realised it was desert as well as beach!! Also had food reports of Qasr al Sarab (saw some amazing photos recently) but the only concern was the journey, as we are taking the kids with us (images of "are we there yet?" spring to mind!) Likewise with the Anatara, one I hadnt heard of but will definitley investigate further. Good idea about having a drive over to Bab al Shams, simpleasabc - might do that before making the booking!

Hi Ladies, my 'In Laws' are coming over and I would really like them to experience the desert. As they are not in the best of health and in their late 70's, the dune bashing is perhaps not a good idea!! I am thinking nice hotel, photos in the sand dunes at sunset, some nice Arabic food etc. I have been told about Bab al Shams, but have had mixed reviews from friends who have visited. Would be grateful if any opinions if you have done something similar or any other suggestions. Thank you!! edited by JayBee on 27/03/2012
