Couldn't you start the business while you are living here and then move back when it starts to take off...

If you live in Dubai I would go down behind the gold and diamond park in barsha, there are lots of tyre workshops with lots of old tyres there !

You need to apply for the emirates ID card first. Once the application process has been done, then will then do the paperwork for the residence visa. All you get is a receipt for the ID card, and the card will eventually be posted to you, maybe weeks or months later. Keep the receipt to use in its place. The typing for the residence visa is done straight after the ID card Application. Hope that makes sense.

Medcare does provide most of those items, but they will charge you for everything that they give you. I would suggest that you tell her to pack everything she might need as she then has the size and brand of everything that she wants.

You can only have a driving license in the emirate where your residency visa was issued, so if you lost it you would have to go back to Abu Dhabi to get it reissued even if you now live in Dubai.

I am pretty sure that you are not allowed to just help yourself to the sand from the desert or the beach. I would go with ELC, its what we used. I'm sure ace will sell sand, but probably more the building type.

I know the feeling. I am already looking at a 20% increase this year in rent, on top of the 10% last year. It is only going to get worse.

The whole of Dubai is expensive. I'm sure having the golf course as part of it makes it even more expensive. It used to be the most expensive golf course in Dubai.... not sure if it still is.

You can always ask the school to keep your child with 3-4 of her best friends if they shuffle the classes around.

Not sure if it's still the case, but be careful if you are taking a rental car over the crossing. They have asked for confirmation from the rental agency that you have their permission to enter Khasab. It has nothing to do with the car insurance. It was many years ago.

It is a big company with a good reputation, but when we looked at their insurance it was very expensive compared to the type without investment in it. I can't remember the technical name for it. We ended up going with Friends Provident, with no investment and much cheaper !. I can put the amount saved to my huge rent increase due. An adviser we have used for years arranged it for us.

Don't you just look forward to a holiday being announced and trying to find out if you get it off and which days the schools will be closed. Then trying to work out if it is a dry day or not.

I would be very surprised if you find an insurance company willing to provide cover for the operation. You will still have to sign a declaration that the information you have provided on the application form is correct. You could end up with no medical cover if they find out you already new about the condtion. Could you not get put on your husbands medical insurance , as most companies do not underwrite individuals for PEC's.

Barclays, Lloyds are HSBC always seem to be a popular choice. There was a thread on here yesterday with recommendations for financial advisers, drop them a line. Sorry I don't know anything about DIFC and the banking rules.

Just to look at it from another angle. You could just email back and let her know that you are probably looking to renew in May 2014, without quoting your contract. She seems to of asked in a nice way, so I wouldn't want to cause any waves. It could just be the new owner wondering if they have to find a new tenant. The law is on your side so you don't have to worry about being evicted.

I don't know about the best.... but we used a quinny buzz. It was great the way it folded flat and the kids loved it. It can also be used with a baby seat and flat bed cot. The only minus point was it was a little bit heavy to put back in the car, but only a small point,

Ours were in rear facing seats for the first three years (in the rear), as I thought it was illegal to be in the front under 10 years old.

I'll second Axa, I went directly to them. Their office is over by Wafi City. They do our home insurance. You can list high value items on top of the basic policy. Didn't really shop around with other companies, but have been happy with them.

Did you think about using a sandwich bag, as the kids find it very easy to open. FS1 will only have a snack in the morning (mine finished at 12pm and came home for lunch), so a whole sandwich might be too much.

Hi, I don't know that company, I had mine done in MOE, and it cost almost 3000 dhs that seems pretty cheap. I would be careful about the quality of the tint they put on.
