Thanks for letting me know. That is a bit rubbish. My husband was upgraded from Gatwick to Dubai last summer when he had gold membership so I was hoping it was a bit of a regular thing when you reach platinum. How disappointing! I am Platinum and do not expect an upgrade - I pay for it if required - how disappointing? Goodness gracious - what has the world become when you're not upgraded for free......

Meet up at a coffee morning via EW I can't imagine a coffee morning would be very suitable if you were working. Does EW ever do weekend or evening meet ups? The mods are not that accommodating I believe. Given email addresses are 'banned' also.... edited by JEAHH45 on 05/04/2015

What kind of people we share this world with :-s Smartee - a very close relative of mine died in the World Trade Centre so of course, we think and pray for those and their families in the air crash yesterday.

Please please look for a dentist that will refer you to be put under general anaesthesia. The only dentist I allowed a gas and air extraction plus root canal is on holiday but his colleague had to remove the root canal tooth - 2 hours later and still had not removed the roots which had snapped in the jaw. Butchery personified. 24 hours later 2 x daily pain killing injection plus 9 stitches in one area. Never ever ever again will is use a dentist here. Petrified me. Just seen ESM Dental Clinic in Al Barsha offer 1-1 GA. Maybe check them out (although states do check if they do) edited by JEAHH45 on 16/03/2015 edited by JEAHH45 on 16/03/2015

Driving along the Corniche in the right lane which mergers into one due to roadworks and a woman literally comes so close to my left side to push in my car sensors went to red. She was unable to move forward due to the barrier however, at the next set of traffic lights, her car cut straight in front of me, parked at a side angle (while the lights went green) and proceeded to scream that this is her Emirate and she had right of way. WTH? Indicated she would call the police before driving off..... Unbelievable some drivers here. You should have let her call the police. Against a local I would stand a chance me thinks. What happens if she does call the police and what should I do?

Sorry might not answer your question exactly, but I go low-cost to save money. So would not go for business class. As far as I know you have baggage allowance, meals and a better seat. Yes it's defintely more space and food is served, you don't need to pay Extra. Yes that's what I mean, you don't have to pay extra as you would in economy. Sounds good but still don't get why people want to fly business class on a low cost carrier. If I'm going flydubai I want to slum it properly :P If I'm going flydubai I want to slum it properly :P Your not Moonflower are you Maroosh?

Ah! I thought Zuma brunch was closed for good, so this is great news - it's my favorite. Toko isn't bad, especially if you're sitting outside it's quite nice. The stuffed courgette flowers are yum yum yum. I've considered trying Okku's brunch, but I get the feeling it's a bit more of a party atmosphere. Has anyone tried it? I'd be interested to hear what it's really like - dinner is usually fine. The promo emails I get from them about brunch just seem a bit cheesy. If you're up for the journey, Zuma Abu Dhabi still has their brunch on. I booked for Okku - eighties themed (sad but I love the 80s) and for the Japanese. Will let you know how good (or bad) it is! Thanks for the tip!

Hello !, Any idea if they have opened up the immigration process for sponsoring a Nepali maid in Dubai ? I am looking for one and getting mixed information about it . Also , if anyone has any contacts of a Nepali maid already in UAE , would be great too ! The attached was from September last year however, not sure if the decision has been reversed. http://www.thenational.ae/uae/government/nepali-ban-on-housemaids-coming-to-uae-to-continue

Ah ok. I am ok as I am flying out again next week before I expire! So would be ok :) I guess JEAHH will have to keep us posted :) Morning. I ended up actually doing the Hatta run in the end via mini-bus and had the best time! Great fellow passengers and albeit a 10 hour round trip (traffic, slight hold up at Oman border control) it was well worth the day out.

I suspect you would need to sponsor a full time driver or hire a reputable and licensed company on a monthly basis (which would be exceptionally expensive).

The airport immigration office so probably closest then. It's open 24 hours however their typing office is a little more expensive than other typists. Not sure what the cost of renewing is. I got confused when they changed the prices of everything last year. Many thanks. A trip will confirm everything :-)

Honestly, am I 'happy' no. But life goes on regardless. I have my own religion as atheist and do not absolutely one iota in a celestial being however, believe as a person, I am relatively somewhat content in my life as others around the world are in abject poverty and I have so much more materialistically than them. Just so happy to help others out when possible. I see and read from others regarding thousands and thousands of Dirhams in many different contexts but sometimes, we have to realistically think of those who have absolutely nothing or who are on the breadline supporting their families.

Can anyone offer any assistance with a stray kitten please? I have no idea how old it is, it seems to be in ok health although skinny and dirty. Some workers said they had seen in hanging around alone, it was wandering on the road and I couldn't just leave it to be run over :( I'm in Arabian Ranches and it's currently corralled in my garden. I can't keep it or have it in the house due to allergies. I've emailed Bin Kitty collective but is there anyone who lives locally who can help? I'll feed it but I don't know whether I should keep it corralled in or let it out in the garden, at a total loss, any advice appreciated! Off to get some cat food now :cat: Is this the small black and white kitten just posted on BKC?

TIA for any feedback regarding flying business class with Egypt Air... We are doing our dutiful visit to England to see friends/family and then would like to fly to Sharm el Sheikh for a week of R&R before returning to Dubai. Due to several back operations and recent neck/shoulder surgery too, I am unable to fly economy for long haul (I know how dreadfully elitist that sounds but am seriously in pain!). Therefore, direct flights from UK to Sharm are out as only economy (Monarch, Easyjet). This means we will have to fly from London to Cairo one way, then do an internal flight. British Airways are hugely expensive. So, any info on this route with Egypt Air would be appreciated! Thanks! Hi Amelton I flew Egypt Air from London to Cairo three years ago (I too had a spinal operation a few months prior). Being perfectly honest, they are OK but do not expect BA or Emirates (only saying Emirates) business class on their flights. Similar to Gulf Air..... edited by JEAHH45 on 02/03/2015

Really depends on budget as the prices vary a lot and Feb is peak season price wise. Baros is a very good resort close to Male. A bit further afield you have Kandolhu that only has 30 villas on the island. For adults only then Komandoo (highly recommend) and Maafushivaru are the only 2 (over 18s). Can recommend Constance Moofushi for a really nice mid-priced resort that is all inclusive. All the resorts I've mentioned are renowned for good snorkelling, except Moofushi which is just ok. If house reef is important, the best are the Park Hyatt, Robinson Club and Mirihi. Kandolhu isn't far behind with Athuruga too. Sorry to bump up thread but I absolutely, with unequivocable doubt, second Baros (pre Tsunami wipeout and rebuild). We had one of the water bungalows for 3 weeks and cannot tell others enough that it is the best holiday I have ever had.

JeanH could you go to the apartment with a small gift - cookies or a ball for the children? Introduce yourself and offer some friendship. You may be in a better position to assess if this is just hectic, chaotic family life with a busy stressed parent or a genuine risk to children. You are obviously a caring person with the interests of those children at heart. I have just literally had dates, chocolates, juices delivered as spoken with the children over the opposite balconies and they like sweets (I did ask if allowed). However, now apartment in darkness and may have gone out. Will keep all updated.

Can anyone verify that foreign children here have to go to school? Anon - so many I believe are homeschooled here, for one, due to the expensive fees. The children claim to be from R@@sia but hearing them consistently speak Arabic. It would not be in my best interests to report I fear.

Dear Curious Firstly, it is not a good idea to NOT pay them a small nominal amount each month whilst you still continue to reside here. If you indeed to reside here, any possible chance of obtaining future employment may be jeopardized by a reference etc from this company. Paying them nothing or ignoring, may place you in trouble. There are others who are more qualified than I to advise perhaps but speak to your previous employer rationally (even if they are not) to come up with a workable plan. I am wondering, if you do not have another position to go to, expecting to live here? If you are married, then you should pay them back to avoid confrontation as it is illegal to owe money.
