I would never ever recommend JIM WILL FIX IT. We had very bad experiences with them. 1) We've contracted them for the whole maintenance of an AC before we moved to a new villa. It seems like they didn't do anything, because in the next two weeks all ACs in our villa were broken. 2) We had a sewerage emergency. JIM WILL FIX IT came after we begged them, they saw our problem and everything they've told us was wrong. We've been told that we should lift our floor so they could do the cleaning. And that was wrong! The problem was in another place and was not related to the kitchen floor. Anyway they couldn't do anything. Or just didn't want to work! Probably they have toooo muuuuch costumers! They also have done some small repairs for us and we had to re-repair everything with another company. And they charge a lot! Very bad service! ABSOLUTELY (in 50ft capital letters) could not agree more. First time I used them, a UK guy helped me - from there he became obnoxious to the point I refused to talk to him any further. Staff rude generally and work ethics non existent.

If I can interject here.....I know exactly what you are going through... In essence, our two girls aged 13 and 15 now spent four years in Dubai and when hubby was offered another role in a nearer GCC country, we decided to move there and move the girls back to UK for their education. I tried living back in UK from July to November last year and could not settle. My parents look after our two girls (have virtually been brought up by them) so it has been an excellent decision and the girls are doing far better, both education and personal wise, back in UK.

it's not up to me what is banned on board, but Ecigarettes are, and the flight crew should be enforcing this not allowing it under a blanket. It is the heating element in these devices which are risky, they are banned for a reason. This is also why they are prohibited from being put in the hold, along with many other items for example camera batteries, laptop batteries etc. http://www.ctvnews.ca/health/un-agency-bans-e-cigarettes-from-checked-baggage-on-airline-flights-1.2423669 Oh dear - noted that I have been told off! Moves onto better things....

?? I think you've just put me off this airline with this sentence. ECigarettes are probhibited goods in the hold and are not allowed to be smoked or charged on board. What would you do if you set off a smoke alarm? Made In Sheffield, the Travellers' prayer is said pre take off on board Etihad and Air Arabia as well. Possibly also Qatar? Mine is smokeless and the FIRST time I used it. So, no, it would not set off an alarm. Do you not think that lighters and matches should be prohibited items also? I have never, in 35 years of flying, ever had a lighter (or matches on the odd occasion) removed from my hand luggage. Gee!

I love having FB but I do still love my privacy. I have personal reasons for having my security set the way that it is- sorry you think that it is pointless for me to have. Everyone has their own comfort levels with the way they use social media. I was trying to be helpful with my post not looking to be slammed for the way that I choose to use FB. Absolutely the best airline in my opinion. Have flown with them 8 times. Wonderful, pleasant, smiling and attentive staff (unlike the UK airline) and they allow you to bring your own booze on board and drink it to your hearts content. Never a delay and would recommend above Emirates. Wish I'd had known that. I had visions of sneaking my duty free into the loo for a crafty drink or three  I sat opposite the stewardess on take off and landing and gave us her blessing for a tipple on both (and sneakily knew I had my eciggie - although exceptionally discreet under a travel blanket).

check out volunteer in uae. they do all sorts of volunteer work all over UAE. check their website to get an idea. www.volunteerinuae.com I would recoomend not. They use to be good few years ago. Has anything changed ? A few years ago, we were at a house with animals and most of the helpers called in were virtually thrown out. Took over and ordered everyone around. The worst, was a screaming match in the Middle of a street with a leading animal charity trying to save two animals in horrible conditions.

topic, these people have absolutely nothing to do with the UK's inability to face up to its responsibilities to their injured armed forces. we could argue all night about who or what is to blame, but these people are NOT leaving everything they have to come to Europe to leech of the public purse, they are fleeing for their lives. As they say in the oilfield............when your a@@se is on fire...........you jump. The UK is at breaking point. The UK, like any other country has a responsibility towards its own citizens - not some 20k freeloaders who, it is well known, are heading for UK shores for the benefits. Having my car peed upon and screamed at by a non European demanding I take him and his family to UK wanting benefits (having to go by ferry instead of Eurostar because these people are blocking the route) and with two young children in the car is not at all compassionate but dangerous.

Okay, so I don't have insurance (yet!) and I will be paying out of pocket. BUT I'm desperate! Doxycycline helped me for a while but when I stress (as I have been doing lately) my pimples flare up again. They're all around my cheek/chin/lowerjaw. So ugly and painful. Has anyone been to a dermatologist who has prescribed them roaccutane? How much was the cost of consultation/blood tests? I know it has major side effects, but I'm so over it, i'm ready to try it. From a former major sufferer, I can sympathise greatly - BUT Roaccutane is an incredibly powerful drug and will only be issued to those with a great need AND it may not work - yes, it has helped millions of people but yet, it has failed millions. It also is very expensive for a minimum course of round 6 months (not forgetting the mandatory liver function tests as the drug affects the liver). I was only on Roaccutane for a short while and you must be prepared that the acne will get worse before it gets better. Stress is one of main causes of acne. Try reducing the stress and you will see a huge difference. Additionally, try other 'cyclins' or indeed, see a good dermatologist who can give you other options - it will be money well spent. I do not want to worry you but you need to be made aware of this drug. Good luck and ask me any questions if you wish.

Good day! I am 3 months pregnant now and me and my boyfriend are planning to get married in Dubai. Only the problem is we need to take medical exam in order to get married in the court. If they will find out that Im pregnant already, what might be the consequences? Thank you If you take the medical, it would no doubt have severe consequences. Anyone on this board should know that getting pregnant, prior to marriage, is illegal in the UAE. Your best bet is to go to abroad (ie Cyprus) and get married.

Seriously, is there nothing else better to do? Certain cultures do not wash their hands, I have had maids spray entire bathrooms whilst cleaning and flood the bathroom, there are posters mostly in bathrooms that ask that you wash hands - what type of 'poster' do you think can be produced can be more effective? The list goes on - not just in UAE and other countries!!!

Just because Sharjah is dry does not mean you cannot get a permit. We did, for two years running, by the Sharjah police. We lived and worked in Sharjah. There are two licensed clubs in Shatjah for alcohol consumption also. Over the four years we lived there, runs from Ajman (hole in the wall) or RAK never was an issue - including private taxis taking me home. I refused to buy, with my license, from Dubai due to the 30 per cent tax added.

If your husband was the primary account holder of loans/credit cards, then you were/are not liable for his debt. Banks will normally only file a case if the amount is worth pursuing. However, it would be prudent to check with Dubai immigration if you still have your residency card number and they will advise you. I would personally not go to the police as any possibility of knowing you will come back, should it be an issue, may prove detriment.

Hi ladies Out of more frustration for wanting to come back to UAE, I'm writing yet another post. What are the chances for an expat (my husband) to get re hired in UAE. He has already worked in dubai for 4 yrs. Now is working in UK in a very good organisation and is in the early middle of his career. His experience in HR and recruitment is just above 4 yrs now. His cv is very attractive for the job roles that get advertised in UAE but due to not residing in that region at the moment he is not getting any interviews. Anyone who belongs to professional world in UAE, please comment and help us direct in the right direction. Impatient to come back ASAP! Thanks Hi Shzee Unfortunately, the area of HR is extremely popular and many individuals (fully qualified also as no doubt your husband) and residing in Dubai are also seeking new opportunities. The job market is flooded with applicants. However having said that, it is best to network ie Linkedin and to register with reputable agencies (perhaps via Gulftalent etc) to get your husbands CV across. Good luck.

Again why is it your business? Why do you need to ask? She was probably thinking the same. I'd be telling you to mind your own business. I did NOT ask about anybody else!! I simply said "she (referring to my own daughter!) needs to have a ticket?" You would basically defend anybody that isn't me, regardless of what they did, isn't that right, based on every reply you've ever given in response to anything I've written. Useless argument here. Cherpie; don't waste your energy, some people here get offended or defensive far too easily when it comes to local custom and religion. Or can turn anything into those arguments. I crossed that place off my list for outings this summer, based on your experience. Who'll said Silverset. Some women on here are beyond thought. Cherpie - hope you and your child find somewhere more enjoyable.

The staff was so rude to me, as if I didnt "belong" there... Let people dressed a certain way have a free kid above the age limit, when I asked why mine was being charged was told very nastily, peering down at me, that's the rules"here" as if it is another planet. Why pay to get treated like that, if my kid didn't want to go I would have walked out, rather go to Dubai mall in any case. There's no people, the place hasn't been updated in years so since they increase price is there any justification? I don't know, and I'm not trying to slander anybody, not naming names come and find me but help us all if their 18 layers of makeup falls off into the fish! Sorry but Cherpie is right. Three words springs to mind about the aquarium (I lived opposite for three years - rude staff and boring.

Everything is cheaper in the US. And better quality. What a ridiculous statement. The quality is defined by an independent certifying institute. So make sure you get a diamond with certificate. As emlsnre suggest look online for an idea of price. Many online retail sellers of diamonds and easy to compare as a result of the certificates. I wasn't referring solely to diamonds. If you read, "everything is cheaper in the US." Don't be rude, OD. edited by dolleymadison on 04/03/2014 Actually, not 'everything' is cheaper in US than here. Hi ladies, I know this has been discussed before but looking for any new imput, Derm put me on this after suffering from acne since 14, I'm now 35 & nothing else ( antibiotics/ Dianette ) seems to be working anymore, I'm 3 weeks in and having a major breakout! Worse than anything I ve had before! So pharmacist recommended taking erythromycin alongside to calm it down, otherwise just having the usual expected dryness & im sorry to say drop in libido ? However I ve spent the last few days researching the drug online and now I am totally freaked out by some of the horror stories I'm hearing! Particularly that some peoples side effects are permanent & can even worsen after treatment! Due to the nature of one of my side effects in particular ? I'm especially worried about this! Does anyone have any experience with using Acutane that could help make up my mind wither it's worth continuing with this? Any advice would be great as I'm literally up all night on line scaring the **** out of myself! Huge thanks in advance x Hi Scottishbambi. Firstly, I feel your pain and anguish after being on Roaccutane (brand name in UK) many years ago. I stopped taking it due to depression all sides effects after 2 months. You will obviously be aware that it is the strongest hospital prescribed drug to treat acne and the side effects can be very severe indeed. Dependent on the level of dosage and severity, it can take up to one year on the drug to show positive results as well as usually, never returning. Please may I suggest, as an interim, speaking to a qualified dermatologist here such as Deborah at Euromed (not sure if she is still there) or http://www.veincureclinic.com/en/page/11/Acne. Lasering for me absolutely annihilated all my severe acne with no drugs whatsoever. The treatment I used was Spectra. Given the severe side affects (plus the expensive of Accutane and monthly liver checks), please do look into this. In the meantime, if you need to cover up with makeup - I more than recommend the Dermablend range - brilliant and does not irritate your skin. Please let me know if you want more info. Sending hugs and most of all, keep positive :-) There is a cure!!! Xxx

Hello everyone, I'm new here, planning to move to Dubai from Ireland with my little family. And that's what my question is about. My partner and I have been together for number of years, we have a little girl ... but we are not married. Do we need to get those rings on before we move over? I know's it's illegal for unmarried couples to live together but is it possible? Sorry if the question seems a bit naive but if I have to plan the wedding as well as the big move .... well it's goning to be a very busy time for me ? Thanks in advance for any information. Yes get married, your hubby has no excuse not to put a ring on it ☺ It's possible to live together without being married, but not legal. With a child it would be complicated not being married, especially if you are adding to your broad. If you plan on having any more children - you will not be allowed to deliver in the UAE without a marriage certificate. As mentioned, if your partner is working - he will not be able to sponsor you or your child(ren). It is not worth the risk! Quick registry office wedding is suffice I would think....

Of course an 8 year old is not an adult. A child doing chores, you see a maid in the making, I see a confident capable adult in the making. A child of 8 doing those kind of chores? Well, that's your opinion not mine.

My daughter is 8 almost 9 and we have a chore list and certain expectations that she has to comply with before she gets her pocket money, the chores mainly consist of making her bed, hanging out the washing, clearing the table and polishing the lounge, if she doesn't do it there is a deduction from her allowance. In regards to expectations, as I work I expect her to have had a shower by the time that I get home, her homework prepared for me to do with her, she has to be polite and considerate to the driver and nanny, go to bed on time and so on. This works for me but may not suit all, some of her friends are getting in excess of 1000aed A maid in the making - poor child..... .....or a capable adult confidently able to look after herself and her home. Parents who send their children out in to the world without even a basic understanding of looking after themselves and their home are doing them a huge dis-service. An 8 year old is NOT an adult.

To be honest it was probably the way you posted your question as it made my blood boil too. It sounded as if your child/children were just waiting to go back to the UK once they were 18 and start claiming benefits!! Having spent the last two years in the UK trying to find work and struggling to get some help from them, even though I had worked non stop for 30 years, this sort of thing really gets to me. Good morning everyone, My name is Anca and I have moved to Bahrain since exactly 5 days....so i am a newly around....looking for precious help/advice and meeting new people. We are currently looking for flats in the areas of Seef, Reef Island and we were told to try Amwaj Islands....how is traffic in the mornings, my hubby is working in the Seef Area.... And now the fun questions start: anyone can recommend already tried and with good experience beauty salons? I am looking for beauty services such as waxing, laser and cosmetic treatments, anything? Anyone? No idea if i can post here local numbers or emails so i do not at this point, but if anyone is interested to meet up lets schedule a day and a place and i am happy to join for morning coffees or afternoon teas :D Bests to everyone in the meantime :) Hi Anca, Welcome to Bahrain. Firstly, there are plenty of places to rent in or around Seef. Reef Island is virtually opposite however, I hear that the single road leaving the island can be a little nightmare early mornings - however, I could be wrong in what I hear. Without a doubt with regard to a beauty salon is Dessange. Enjoy your stay here!

Thanks for letting me know. That is a bit rubbish. My husband was upgraded from Gatwick to Dubai last summer when he had gold membership so I was hoping it was a bit of a regular thing when you reach platinum. How disappointing! I am Platinum and do not expect an upgrade - I pay for it if required - how disappointing? Goodness gracious - what has the world become when you're not upgraded for free...... I'm with you, I also pay for business class when I want it, and agree it is a little silly to expect upgrades no matter what level Skywards membership someone has. I think that Emirates flights used to be overbooked more often before they added more routes and flights per day to certain destinations. Which is why in recent years past more people got upgraded; it was a function of an overbooked flight. My gripe is that it never used to be so difficult to upgrade, and I don't recall that it cost so many miles to do so. My company doesn't always fly me business (not saying "oh poor me!" just saying). However they always purchase the economy fare that allows us to upgrade with our own miles or own money if we wish. This last trip I took, the upgrade cost was much higher than normal, and they couldn't do it in advance, I could only inquire once checked in to see if it was viable. Maybe it is always like this for certain flights? I just don't recall it ever being like this. If the area is an upgrade with miles however, I have heard so many instances (one of which a woman screaming at check in for a refused upgrade for free because of beng a gold member beggars belief). Jumeirah Jane springs so much to mind. You want an upgrade - pay for it!!! Do these people believe that airlines exist for their free benefit? <em>edited by JEAHH45 on 05/04/2015</em>

I, thankfully, have left the UAE for another close GCC country. Rented a villa, via an agent that manages the property, and could not wish honestly for better service, FAR cheaper rent, fully furnished to a high standard....and monthly payments - - the list goes on.
