Try Boecker. We live in an old villa with an enormous garden with lots of trees around and they are the only ones who managed to stop the constant stream of wood ants coming into the house.

As a follow up to my previous post, when we asked for the security cheque back so we could destroy it, we were told that once the release letter is issued the cheque is automatically destroyed. We have now asked for written confirmation of that.

With 3 teenagers in the houseI know all abouto this. In the end I went in and decluttered with each in turn and now anything found on the floor that shouldn't be there gets put into a special bin and left there. It's amazing how even the thought of my daughter's favourite tops being in the same bin as her brother's smelly football socks has made her focus rather more. Wish the same could be said for the 2 boys, they tend just to dig things out and wear them again!

I could write a book on this bank's customer service. However we cleared a car loan recently with the same bank and got the clearance certificate no problem within 2 days and no charge I am aware of, but I suppose as your loan cleared a long time back it may take them longer to process. To get the clearance my husband had to go in person to the branch and sign to close the loan account. I actually think it should close automatically once there is a nil balance and the release letter should be generated as a result not something you have to request. One thing I am now going to pursue is return of the cheque it was necessary to sign for the whole amount of the loan.... as it was undated, and if you wrote one you might like to consider this. Makes me uneasy to think there is an undated, signed cheque for a large amount lurking somewhere out there...

Cut a slice off the bottom to improve water uptake and then it must sit in water as it needs minimum of a litre a day. Do not use hairspray to stop needles dropping as you will turn tree into a giant fire hazard. Suggest you Google this as there are lots of sites with good advice.

Hi. We have had ours ages and it is bliss, so comfortable and seems to ease out any minor aches and back pains. I don't think it gets softer through use though. Suggest you take yours back if you are not happy and go elsewhere for another. It will however cost a lot more than a normal mattress you just have to accept that.

Have the same issue with my 17 year old, and notice that his younger brother is going the same way. Think in the end having pointed out the issues with back problems, leave him to sort it himself. The school might give you/him feedback - or you could give them feedback probably only to find that half his classmates do the same.... You could also in a quiet moment point out that you will not be buying the next bag when the straps break or the zips burst like I did. I no longer sweat the small stuff with our teenagers - there are too many other major issues to deal with - I just try to keep the lines of communication open so I might have some idea what's going on in their lives, tell them I love them regardless of the mindless things they do, we laugh and cry together - and I try to impart good advice only once and if it's ignored move on. Life's too short!!!

Agree that children of all ages need boundaries and parents who will spend time just listening to them In our house, one young adult living at home (21), two teenagers and 11 year old, we have progressed to Rules of the House that we expect everyone to follow as best they can. The first three are: 1. Children are not adults. They have no authority over their parents. That means children have some choices and some freedom but only those that parents give them. Parents have a responsibility to raise their children the best they know how. 2. Children have a legal right to adequate food, shelter, education, health care, clothing and protection from abuse. Parents are not required to give their children anything else including money. 3. Children follow directions and requests made by parents. Parents may discuss the matter and explain their reasons, but parents are not required to explain or justify their decisions. There are more.... we are not control freaks, and anyone who wants to change a rule can say so and we will all discuss it, but we decided some time back that everyone needed to know where they stand and what the limits are... it works for us.

If you do need a police report, fairly painless to get one for this type of thing. Had to do it recently when my daughter backed into a concrete pillar in my car. This was in Dubai Mall and police have an office there so really easy but otherwise a quick trip to a police station should do it. The form we got was not pink but white - assume because no other party involved. Do look around for quotations though - we had variations from AED2500 down to AED600 - all from garages in Al Quoz and make sure you bargain with them!!

Agree totally on the school fees - we have 4 children, 3 still at secondary school, 1 at college and expenditure is beyond belief BUT my son is a slow learner and needs extra help. The school does support him fantastically, as do we at home (welll I think so!) but for GCSEs where a reasonable grade is important for later life, he needs more structured help. I feel better results will be achieved by using the services of someone outside the family. So what other solution is there? (Sorry I could not contact anyone yesterday, business commitments prevented me, but will be in touch over the weekend.)

Many thanks ladies for your recommendations. Interesting so far she has had quotes from 4 places and prices, for the same work, ranged from AED2700 down to AED1600. Just shows it pays to shop around and then may be strike a balance between the cheapest and the most reliable.

Three of our children went to Desert Palms on the Hatta Road to learn how to ride. The horses are well looked after and healthy and the instructors good and safety conscious. They did not start however until they were about 8/9 years old.

My daughter is taking art for A level and I seem to spend every weekend buying art supplies. There is an art supply shop in the Beach Centre on the Jumeirah Beach Road. Also, in the small shopping mall next to where Magrudy's there is another shop called Kazim. Magrudy's also sell some art supplies upstairs next to the cards and school uniform section.

We have adopted several times whilst living in the Middle East. We always were supported by the Adoption Support Group here in Dubai which is made up of people who have adopted and those who want to find out more about it. Nothing like talking to people who've done it to find out how. They have a contact at [email protected] and both Synergy or Raymond Hamden's clinic should be able to give you a telephone number for the Coordinator. They don't usually meet in July and August though as most families are away.

I applied for renewal of our IDs (6 of them) about 3 weeks ago. Got 3 SMSs this week. 2 IDs were at Jum PO and 1 is at Al Quoz 4 PO. The guy in Jum checked and the other 3 are not ready. He said he has known cases where they need to be collected from Sharjah!! I thought that as I applied for a family batch, all with the same name, same address, etc they would all stay together..... wrong! And make sure you take your receipts with you

Yellow fever vaccination available only from Govt clinic in Al Mankhool - it's quite easy to find. With regard to Malarone, managed to get these thru pharmacy at ParknShop. They are brilliant and if they don't have something, they will ring round in an attempt to find it. They will even deliver to the house. Hope this is not considered marketing or advertising!!!

Over the years we have had them with desks underneath for all our children. On the whole they have been very popular. I don't personally like the rungs on the ladder as although they have a non-slip edge, they are very narrow and kids in a hurry could slip through them. My teenage son recently took possession of the older style wooden 140 cm bed a few months back and the rungs on the ladder are flat, more comfortable to climb and safer. The biggest challenge is putting on the bottom sheet but of course as they get older you can get the kids to do it themselves. Certainly not safe for a child under the age of 6/7. I have one of these beds, practically brand new, but with no mattress, looking for a home if you want it.

Sorry I only just saw this post. I have been here almost continuously since 1984 and remember camels eating out of the bins near Eat and Drink on the Al Wasl Road, a turtle laying eggs one night on the beach down in Jumeirah 1, a dhub on the SZR that a policeman rescued and took to safety in his car boot and owls in the trees near where the Metropolitan Hotel complex is, oh and gazelle just up the road on the way to Jebel Ali.

Suggest you keep trying with Emriates - there has to be a way around this as it often happens. For Qatar Airlines, when I bought a ticket for our maid when her father died, I booked on line and just went to the agent and showed the e-ticket and credit card. They gave me a stamped form that she then showed when she checked in.

We went in Nov 2009 for 6 days with 3 of our children, youngest 10 years. We had a couple of days near Nakuru about 2 hours drive from Nairobi, mainly to see white rhino. We then flew down to Masai Mara (45 minutes from Nairobi) and spent 4 days at Governor's Camp which is tented but with bathrooms. Superb service with early morning cups of tea to wake you up brought to the tent. Food was great and safaris wonderful. Little bit scary at night as there is no perimeter fence and animals come right up to tent. We had hippos outside one night and lions another, but there are plenty of guards around to escort you to and from tents. We can't wait to go again. Think twice about the hot air balloon safari though. If you've never done it, it's memorable but otherwise it's an expensive and not very effective way to see game animals.

Brilliant. Last seen at the Nelson Mandela concert at Wembley Stadium in 1989 and he improves with age. So good to hear an artist who actuallys sounds better live than on an album and is not scared to jam in the presence of a large audience. He obviously loves his music and wants to share his enthusiasm with everyone.

Thanks for all your responses. Good to hear there are those who declutter regularly and rigorously and those who never let it build in the first place. On Qatar Airlines, because I booked for someone else on line and used a credit card that had to be shown at time of check in, there was a facility whereby I took the credit card to the QA office and obtained a form stating they had seen CC that was handed in at check in so I did not have to be present; otherwise I was told I would be allowed in to the check in area to show my CC even though I was not flying. Wow that sounds complicated - hope it makes sense.....

There is a very active Adoption Support Group here in Dubai that you would find very helpful. It is for people who want to adopt or who already have. Dr Philips and his wife in Synergy Clinic should be able to put you in contact with them. If not I will. We have 4 adopted children, oldest 20, youngest 11, but no biological children. There are however families here who have both and I am sure some of them would be willing to discuss their experiences with you.
