Hi I'm so sorry!! Not many people seem to be on Expatwoman anymore unfortunately. I would suggest you go and see your neighbour and apologise! Other than that go onto the Facebook group called 'You know you've been in Dubai too long' and hopefully you'll get some good advice! Hope everything works out! What a terrible worry!!

Oh my goodness... that is so hard!!! Arriving in Dubai is overwhelming at any stage of your life and being in a hotel alone with your baby is even harder. There are so many wonderful people in Dubai in the same situation, different situations... we all struggle at the beginning!! Please stay positive... you will find friends who have babies that you can meet up with. It just takes time... Be strong no matter how lonely you are, it will get better, I promise!!!

Hi, it's okay to get a dog sitter.... but your big boy can't be locked up in a villa for 3 weeks, being visited once a day! The kennels are all full! Homely Petz will come once or twice a day to feed your dog and spend a short amount of time with him and take him for a walk. If he was a little dog it would sort of be okay... but not really! Imagine him sitting there all day on his own with no company? I would not leave my little doggies alone for 3 weeks with a visit once a day! Hopefully you can find someone at short notice to look after your doggie?

I would suggest you get DKC or any other reputable pet clearing company to get your pet cleared. We arrived 5 years ago and (after months of vaccinations and health checks) our 3 little Shitzhu's arrived from Australia after being in their crates for 40 hours via Malaysia, they arrived at 3am in the morning in this intense heat. They would not release them to us because we didn't have an E Dirham card for AED600 and we could not get one until the post office opened. Which post office? The vet would not let us see them. There was no water left in their crates and they were in a terrible mess! I was extremely angry after all the money we had paid to make sure they got here safely!! We had just arrived ourselves and our clearance agents in Australia had not told us about this. After sitting at Cargo Village in their crates for 9 more hours and us running around since 3am, now quite hysterical by this stage, we eventually got them cleared! It was horrendous and my only bad experience after being in Dubai for 5 years! Don't do it yourself! edited by Jetset on 11/06/2014 <em>edited by Jetset on 11/06/2014</em>

Uptown.. no idea?? Been here 5 years and I go to Sheer Beauty, Suzanne on 71 St. Her phone number is 0505796954. My hair is blonde and short and she gets the highlights perfect and the cut is just right! I had my hair done their today.. she is always recommended on this sight. Hair cut and highlights Aed300.. salon is very small but she is very good!!

I can highly recommend Glamour in Mirdif. They are located down 71 St, first right after Uptown and their contact number is 042363237. I have been going there for years and I have my nails, pedicures, waxing and anything else you need done there. They have recently added a hair salon. I can highly recommend them for all your needs. The ladies are all lovely and very professional. Please call them... I am sure you will be happy!!

Hi, you can buy Frontline from Al Safa Vets. My dog is itchy due to allergies and is on Hypoallergenic as well. It flares up regularly with hot itchy spots and his skin gets very pink and smelly! Bath him in Malaseb once a week which you can buy at the vets. Hope you manage to get your doggies problem sorted.

Oh my goodness! Just reading this thread... understanding fully about destroyed curtains!! A stray cat delivered her 5 kittens on our door step last June so of course we saved them all and brought them inside out of the summer heat with mommy cat. Our maid was left in charge of them while I went home for a few weeks and as the kittens grew they used our bedroom curtains to climb up! Those curtains were not cheap either! They obviously had a wonderful time! I got home and the curtains and sheers were shredded completely! Now remember the maid is living at home and looking after the villa while we are away. I could not believe my eyes when I arrived home off the plane!! I laughed in hysterics at these 2 meter high shredded curtains, ripped from top to bottom!! In the meanwhile my husband had been travelling but at the villa at certain times in between as well!!! "Oh madam look what the kittens have done?" I was totally flabbergasted at the sight and the maid!! Lift them up... tie them in a ball so the kittens can not reach them!!! "OH you never told me to Madam!"... Well hello, I have never had 5 kittens in my house plus mommy for the entire summer. So just know that our maids don't think like we do! I had to throw those curtains away... well the maid took them, and still doesn't understand what all the fuss was about! We can't blame them because we just don't think the same way... and I still have my maid but she sure won't let that happen again!!!! And all 5 kitties went to wonderful homes and we still have mommy cat with us!! After being an expat for 30 years don't expect your maid to think like you do, coz they don't and never will!!!

It's easy... I always buy some before I travel and it's never been a problem! It's fine so don't worry! Easier than buying over the counter in Australia!! They make you feel really awful!!! Hello.... it's over the counter so be quiet and don't ask questions....

The vets called today and said they had recieved Tia's ashes back! More tears... really so sad. Our house in Surabaya was furnished and our landlord provided everything and we had a beautiful home, but like I said that was a long time ago. Your company should provide you with a car and driver! Everyone's company did and I wouldn't even consider going unless that is part of the contract. Just start with the company package and see what is provided and go from there. It's not hard... all in black and white and not an easy posting so you should be compensated for basics. Utilities should be paid and depending on your allowance your villa/apartment will depend on the cost your company gives you... if it's not a big package don't think about it!!!!

Hi, we lived in the 2nd largest city in Indonesia, Surabaya, for 5 years when our sons where 5 and 7! It does not have the gridlock of the terrible traffic in Jakarta but we loved every minute of our lives there! Yes it was a fairly long time ago, but the Indonesian people are so gentle and you will be able to afford lots of househelp if you have a villa. We had drivers, security guards and home help. Everyone did as it is encouraged to help the large population! We loved Indonesia... our boys loved their school, had so many friends, so all positive other than the traffic and pollution. There is a huge expat community in Jakarta and life was really good! Our boys are 25 and 27 now and they still talk about how happy our lives were living there.. so look at it and make sure you get decent company accomodation with security, and you will definitely need a driver for your husband to get to work and then spend the day with you and your children till pick up time for your husband. Yes everyone has to be paid for everything, but if you are an experienced expat where culture shock won't be a problem, give it a go! Your company has to be really good and compensate your for living there though, so make sure everything is covered before you even consider moving there with your two little ones. Life was great there and I still have so many friends who are still there, and have been back on postings several times. Anyone who goes to Bali carrying drugs is totally mad!! Look at the Bali 9 and Shapelle Corby! You will always get caught even though Bali is rife with drugs and available everywhere!! We lived in Indonesia for 5 years and went to Bali so often.... I would not go back there for a holiday now! Carrying drugs into Bali is a death sentence and everyone knows that......

Sadly, I had a difficult discussion with my one close friend in London where she said she didn't want any "of my drama in her life and I need to relax my expectations of marriage and friendship". I was very upset by the cold tone of our chat and regret sharing any of my personal story with her. We have been friends for more than 20 years! Eish. Well... they aren't worth worrying about then! Good friends listen and we listen to them too.... it works both ways!!! One hand is all that is needed to count the precious people in our life/lives! With that many we will be okay. Happy New Year!!! And.. yes it is so difficult going back to our old lives!! Hubby's take it so differently.. it will take time, but it will be okay!!!!
