If any one bought a used car, where did you see the listing? Still trying to gather where to post the for sale ad. Thanks all

Search for other posts.. I've copied this from before- I lived in tower B for one year and moved out near the end of last year. I couldn't stand the daily (literally, and 6am alarms became normal) fire alarms being 20+ floors up. I can't tell you how many times I had to walk up and down those stairs either going to or coming home from work. Safety should be considered.. I decided I was done when I had the windows open in the summer time (very humid evening) and the heat sensor alarm in the apartment went off. No one downstairs knew about it or came to check and when I called to tell them, I asked what would have happened if it was a fire. The receptionist replied- we would find out about it when you call to tell us. Wow! Other than that, living there is pretty nice. It is certainly convenient to have the mall and Carrefour right there downstairs. The view I had was amazing. I found it a bit shocking when out in the early mornings on the weekends or in the lobby late at night. You'll see hookers coming in and out with men as they rent flats there for these things.. As far as maintenance, it is ok but just expect someone to pop up at your door without notice and without any tools. Also odors from apartments travel from one unit to another so just hope that you don't live near a smoker like I did.

Many of the American universities within QF post part time positions. Keep checking their websites (not QF job postings, but the actual university's) edited by joos on 04/04/2014

In a mall, but really the best place is on the top floor of City Center, in the big gift shop. All kinds of Arabic souvenirs and cheap. I can't think of the name, but it's on the opposite end from where the movie theater is.

Maybe you could try the British Dental Centre in Salam Tower on the Corniche (44117755). I've had complex work done there by Dr al Ansari and I've also seen his senior partner, sorry I forget his name, but the senior gent is an oral surgeon. They will refer you to their Salwa Rd branch where the oral surgeon is. The difference in building quality between the two branches is crazy.. I don't like the Salwa Rd one.. def needs to be updated in comparison! That is why I'm putting off getting mine pulled. I just don't want to go there..

You are on the highway with Landmark on your right hand side (Al Markhiya St). Go under the Doha Expy, straight, pass Ezdan Mall (on your right) until the next light. At the light, take a right onto Al Ittihad St. There will be a line of shops along the street. Don't go to the first line, but the second which is a bit down the road. Google maps has it at the corner of Al Ittihad St and Al Oyoun St. The shop that we used is in there. edited by joos on 23/09/2013

Khaled 33128012 He works beside Zig Zag where you mentioned. Not much English so I would just text something like "# of jet skis, date, time, available?" He may end up calling you back with someone else who speaks English. On a Friday it's 300 per hour per jet ski or 350 for a "super" jet ski Remember the bridge that takes you there is now closed. You can only access the jet ski area by driving up past the golf club. Btw you can bargain with him. Weekends are tougher though. edited by joos on 18/09/2013

Doesn't really affect us.. the only time you'll notice it is in the movie theaters where they cut out *** scenes. It seems like the kissing scenes are being left in the movies now, but it probably depends, like everything else here. You'll get random sites blocked, but as long as you know how to VPN you'll be fine. Not a big deal.

Look at it as a challenge. I used to let these things bother me, but I have somehow become a more patient and understanding person since moving here. They are to be expected (always), so don't act surprised.. Give yourself plenty of time to complete tasks and never wait until the last minute, because something will come up for sure :) Also, never take the answers they give you as the final one. As ten people and take the average answer to get the most accurate one hehe. To be honest the picture with glasses is ridiculous, and I would have not accepted her answer. It kind of becomes a game where you have to convince them that there are other options or ways of going about things. They will always tell you "no" but you have to convince them otherwise.

In addition to the points below, I just want to clarify that it is possible to get a multi-exit permit (renewed yearly by company- ask them if they would give this multiple permit and decide). I do not work under my husband's sponsorship and can leave at any time without any paperwork to be done.

Sasha, I'm a community college instructor, so in the academic world although maybe not quite as academic as yourself... what do you teach? If you want to hook up let me know. I'm not over there yet but will be soon. Yes I will let you know. I should be there in a couple of weeks. Do you teach adults? What are the students like compared to western countries? Going back to the media, does anyone here know if there's censorship of movies and news on satellite TV? You will notice a lack of skills in information literacy and really no knowledge of plagiarization. Cheating is also more common place, even during exams. Students here work together a lot as opposed to the 'west' where students tend to be more independent and do their own work without as much collaboration outside of the classroom.

My biggest surprise was not having as much culture shock as I thought I would have. It is 2 years here for me, and when I leave for long times, I am happy to come home. By the way, I live in a compound of Qatar U profs, Y Village, and it is awesome! I highly recommend it. Good luck I don't know where I'll be staying. I'm not even sure if they'll put me in a compound with singles or families or if the compounds are mixed. I know the student accommodation is segregated but I don't know about staff. The HR are not very forthcoming in their communications. Are you a Qatar U prof too, or how did you come to live there? Is it a mixed families/singles compound? Do they have good security? By the way my students will be females only. In some ways I guess this is a good thing. But I wonder if these girls aren't going to be a lot of work for university education given they'd probably be very sheltered from the world. Anyone here have any experience with adult females students? Thanks for bearing with me: forewarned is forearmed... Don't worry.. You will be very surprised in finding out how "sheltered" they are :) Pleasantly surprised, that is. The great thing about Qatar is having the stereotypes in your mind challenged! You will learn a lot from them and have a blast.

Each guest checking in to a hotel has to hand over their passport for the staff to take a copy. There would definitely be questions asked if the surnames of the adults were not the same. Women in the Muslim world don't take their husband's name..

I'm switching from Elite and going to try Ahwa. Was not too thrilled with Elite's service as they didn't come at the time agreed upon week after week, so it was difficult to communicate what I needed from the cleaner. Any experience with Ahwa? They are also cheaper at first session 35/hr and 30/hr thereafter.

Has anyone found a good drop off/pick up service? I am using El Rayes now near EC at the Lulu Express and they are super cheap: 38 Riyals for.. two sheets, four pillow cases, one duvet cover, two large towels! Unfortunately they don't deliver (yet, he said).. Edit- I guess I am looking for pick up/drop off.. a place that picks up and delivers when it's done. What is the extra charge, generally? Thanks! edited by joos on 17/04/2013

Please, can someone enlighten me: My whole life i knew that irrespective what you do to shelter yourself during or after an earthquake, there is ONE thing you do NOT do: you do not use the stairs! Stairs are the most frail part in a building. How is this whole evacuating 'thing' in the high rise happening? (of course , here in Doha!) . Is there a knowledgeable and trustworthy (!!??) person deciding and supervising it? Or is it left on everybody's own decision. I heard reports of people being 'evacuated 'from office buildings, that entered car parks to get to their cars...and security guards did not oppose?! No disrespect, but are you new here?! :) It is a shameful situation, safety & emergency in Doha..

I use Elite cleaning service but have just canceled them after two months. There is a new issue every time, from scratched windows to foot prints all over the balcony. Just not worth the hassle anymore!
