I need to contact them as well as emails have been unsuccessful. They have a service where they sponsor tourist visas to the UAE as long as you have a visa to the US/Europe (one of the conditions)- which we have. So, we purchased the ticket as we were instructed to do, only to find out after that they do not provide this service to our nationality. That was mentioned nowhere in their terms & conditions or policy, and now we are out the ticket price. Has anyone had luck showing up in person to their (main) office?

It would be a real treat if you took them to the al sadd area. There is a salon called Hilton and they have the reputation amongst the Arab women of doing the best henna in Doha. It is sort of behind Royal Plaza. ُThere are two kinds of henna: Gulf (khaleeji) and Indian (hindi). Ask for the khaleeji. You'll need to spend at least 1.5 hrs there and the cost depends on what you get done, but for hands you're looking at 50-150 and hands & feet 200 QAR+

I've just had a massage at Royal Thai Lady Spa on Al Waab and they are fantastic. Prices generally range from 130-200 QAR for an hour for different types of massages. There is a men's Thai massage place next door, so that might be worth trying out.

From the Pearl to EC it takes me exactly 25 minutes every morning, leaving at 7:30 am to make it inside gate 3. Then it's 5 min to park and walk to my office :) Leaving at 7:00 is a different story though- tons of traffic. 7:30 drive is breezy.

Well Qataris aren't the only ones who speak Arabic. Far from it. Indian, Filipino and Ethiopian maids.. a lot of people speak Arabic, and there is a range of ability. You can specify what kind of Arabic you want when looking for a maid. Most likely they would have worked for Arabic speaking families before, and I'm sure you could ask her to speak Arabic with your children. You could even specify what kind of Arabic you want them to be able to speak (Egyptian, Gulf, etc..) but then again you would never really know how well they knew it :) Good luck!

I just arranged for Elite to come today for the first day. They didn't have a problem doing three hours once a week. They charge a monthly rate, so if there are five weeks instead of four in a month (like this month), you save :)

Yes, of course it depends. Thankfully the doctor I mentioned has a general doctor that he referred me to (after treatment) and I went there and got a "referral letter" from him.

You can make an appt directly (and then apply for a reimbursement through your insurance company). I used this doctor for a pinched nerve in my back that sent pain down my arm and didn't allow me to sit. He fixed me in about three sessions and I was very satisfied. Dr. Cyrus Nassery at the American Chiropractic Center close by Landmark (do a search for his website)

Dear Ladies, About the interesting point that Mustard added about being careful choosing the tower to live in Porto Arabia, I have some questions: - Based in your experience, which are the best towers to live? Nice apartments, terrace, kitchen and maintenance. - I've seen some apartments to rent in tower 30, that seems to be newer and very nice (in the photos, of course). Do you know this tower? - Is Sabban Towers a very crowded area, I mean the swimming pool, kids zone and common areas? I like that towers, but always have the idea that they are 3 towers sharing only a pool... - And a curiosity... the pools have sea water or normal one? Thanks for your help as usual and have a nice day! Kind regards from Madrid. I have been living in tower 30 since October when it opened and would recommend it 100%. It is quiet, still not many people around so the facilities are not crowded at all. There is a big company renting many of the apartments and they keep the tower management on their toes. The great thing about it is the beach is a five minute walk away! The pool has regular water and is heated. edited by joos on 17/01/2013

Kelbucko, Oxford Learning Center, a tutoring center, is hiring. You don't need any specific certifications to work there. I would try to contact them! They have two locations: one by Landmark and one by the airport. Good pay and nice people :)

I checked out an apartment there a few months back. The first thing I noticed was just how far of a drive it was. It would probably take 10-15 minutes just to get there after entering the Pearl. Add that to your already 35-45 minute commute and it adds up. There are a few towers open, I think two at the moment. They are nice from the lobby and pool view, however the quality of the apartments inside that I saw were not up to the standard of the Porto Arabia building where I live. The trim was made of that white metal/plastic that you find on many windows in Doha and I found that very off-putting. I didn't like the layout of the apartment either. I live in a brand new Porto Arabia building and am 100% satisfied with everything about it. 5 min walk to the beach, maintenance, etc all great. (#30) Medina Centrale is not open and I don't see it opening anytime soon really. Maybe by the end of summer? If you think about all the empty shops in Porto Arabia, I have no idea how they will fill up all of MC. It is a pretty big outdoor shopping area. They recently put up an opening soon sign for Spinneys there. I ride my bike through now and then and most of the shops are still bare concrete inside. Hope this helps!

For chiropractors, there is Dr. Cyrus Nassery at the American Chiropractic Center right by Landmark. Hope my insurance covers it all.. 2000 for the first visit and 1500 for follow up. He is American from California, used to have a clinic there I saw this doctor three times in the past week and can highly recommend him. Will definitely fix you up! edited by joos on 31/12/2012 edited by joos on 06/01/2013

Try Aramex. I believe they ship directly from Doha to Dubai to Shanghai, so getting to that point should take about five days I would think.

After searching a bit online, it looks like they are available at QPost's main office. Try calling rather than running over there to be sure. *Edit* Actually, call three times, talk to three different people, and then you might almost be sure :) edited by joos on 05/12/2012

Have a look at the towers first. The Qanat Quartiers may seem nice but the other apartments are more spacious (especially balcony space!) with better views generally.

I lived there for a year and liked it. It's super convenient having the Carrefour downstairs and several restaurants. The only negative point is the multiple, daily fire alarms.

Saw two flats there. Nice but compact compared to apartments in the Pearl. Even if I liked the size, there is NO ONE living there! It was like a ghost town. You go out on the balcony and the nextdoor neighbor's balcony was only 3-4 feet away on both sides.. To crowded for me. I'd imagine IF it ever fills up, it would be a noisy place.

It's super easy! Just have the person lay on their side, cut a hole in a paper plate and put the ear candle through it to catch anything that may fall. Cut the burnt part of the candle every so often while it's burning. I'm sure there is a youtube video for this, and I *think* I may have seen ear candles at a pharmacy in Lagoona mall but I could be wrong! Best of luck

Some of the criteria include not spending more than 35 days in the US in any calendar year. According to the company that does my taxes here, this only applies to your first year in Qatar. After that, you can go in and out of the US as you like and the number of days doesn't matter. By the way you can break residency (no paperwork involved, just tell the person doing your taxes that you broke residency) to avoid paying state and local taxes. I only pay federal tax throughout the year and get all of that refunded when the time comes. I also pay SS and medicare but that does not get refunded. edited by joos on 03/09/2012

I work in EC as well and we got this in an email: 'In the interest of fairness and in consideration to those observing the Ramadan fast, the work day for all staff is expected to be six hours. However, the University is open and must be able to conduct its business during normal work hours. To ensure that a department is able to continue its operations throughout the entire work day, department heads may need to ask staff to work flexible six hour periods and/or work normal eight (or more) hour days depending on operational demands.'

There are lots of opportunities for tutoring here- one is at Oxford Learning Center and you make your own hours. Without a bachelor's degree I believe they pay 60 or 70 QR/hour but maybe more in your case since you have other qualifications. They are really looking for people to work during the summer! Morning and afternoon hours. Hope this helps. 4481-8434 if you are interested edited by joos on 30/06/2012
