Hi, we get mobbed by kids on Halloween and I have run short on candy the last few years although I thought I was well stocked! Can anyone recommend a place to buy candy in bulk that will not break the bank. Thanks

A different perspective, as an employer I find it very difficult to recruit in Dubai. I find a lot of potential employees come for interviews totally unprepared and can not even answer basic questions about their experience, they are either lacking in confidence or far too confident and make demands as to working hours, pre booked holidays etc. It is almost as though they do not want a job! The last few employees I have hired have come through recommendations rather than from recruitment agencies, so I would suggest that networking is key to find a position here. Also polish your CV to perfection, make it meaningful and relevant and absolutely not a single spelling mistake.

Hi JuleLC, I had the same problem as you did and wasted time and money in looking for an alternative to PB. I went to Carrefour, Intercoil and a few places in Karama all with no success, the problem is the height of the mattress it is impossible to get anything but a foam mattress which will fit in the trundle. I ended up getting a custom foam mattress from the intercoil factory in Al Quoz which cost around 350dhs, the problem was it was incredibly uncomfortable so after a few guests with aching backs and necks, I ended up going back to PB to get a proper mattress and although expensive it is lovely to sleep on!

He is only 7 so that is why I was thinking of a cheaper version, it could very well be stood on, dropped in the swimming pool or similar! Apart from the expensive Apple, Samsung, BB models I am not sure what is considered a reliable brand in the cheaper ranges, any idea?

My son who is 7 has done e-sports camp the last few weeks and loved it, in my opinion it is very well organized and supervised. There appears to be a lot of physical activity, swimming, football, games as well as craft,he came home quite exhausted most days, which is a good thing!

If you buy the baby Panadol (for under 5) it tastes like calpol, the one for 5+ is a terrible cherry flavour which most kids hate and promptly spit out!

SM-French Enough said then :D Personally in that case, I wouldn't bother..if she had been Emirati I might have thought about it as we know we are not all equal here! Totally agree with the above! As already advised, try not to take it personally the whole assessment process is totally flawed In my opinion and usually has very little to do with a child's ability or how the assessment went as the majority of schools have quotas in place for nationality, english as a second language, male female ratios etc etc Did they advise you are on a waiting list? If so they change very quickly once places are offered, I hate to admit but a couple of years ago my DS was offered a place in two schools and I accepted them initially as I waited for my preferred school to come through, once it did I cancelled the others. Unfortunately this is what the jostling for places forces you to do in Dubai! edited by Josephinie on 24/02/2013

I have had Botox with three different doctors, a rundown of my experiences over the years: Dr Ahmed at Crescent - good job, quick, easy to get appt, cost AED1700 Dr Al Shunnar - lovely lady, had to wait for ages, very rushed, good job but hurt more than usual, cost AED1580 Prof Hoshy - very nice man, gave advice on other skin issues also, did not hurt at all, cost AED1550 My personal reccomendation would definitely be Prof Hoshy, the only downside is that he is based in the US and only visits every few months edited by Josephinie on 12/02/2013

I have not stayed at the Hard Rock but have visited a number of times, personally I would not stay in Kuta at all it is the busiest, dirtiest, seediest part of the island but some people enjoy the action and nightlife it has to offer. The bar and the bands make for a good night out at the Hard Rock and the pool is huge, rooms pretty basic but fine. Perhaps Look at staying in Legian or Seminyak. Where is the villa on the beach as there are not too many that are directly in the beach in Bali.

Honestly, I'm not sure what everyone expects, everything to be totally free...? It's up to the restaurants/attractions whether they participate (I'm pretty sure they pay for inclusion, but may be wrong) and then they lose money with the redemptions... You only need to use a few vouchers to make much more than your money back, one brunch alone in fact more than covers the cost of the book, let alone desert safaris, theme parks etc...I'm betting pretty much everyone will buy it again next time...! :D Well said Mrs Mozz, check it out... if you don't like don't buy!

Hi Tallyscot, Perhaps it might be a good idea to take your son to a reputable peadiatrician who could then refer you to the most appropriate specialist, Dr Khan at cooper clinic is excellent as is Dr Ahmed at Kids First / City Hospital. All the best

Agreed, there does seem to be a number of restaurants that have opted not to be part of the Entertainer this year, however it is hardly the Entertainer's fault if establishments choose not to be a part of it. It pays to have a good browse through online to see if your favourites are in there before purchasing. Personally I opted for the fine dining only this year, as I thought the main book was pretty average, but like a number of the inclusions in the fine dining such as The Ivy, Rivington Grill.

We went through the process almost two years ago, from memory you apply online and make an appointment at VFS the visa processing centre which is in Bank Street Bur Dubai (not the consulate) you submit all the forms, documentation and fee to them. It took almost two weeks to obtain the certificate which you then require to apply for the passport, which is actually at the consulate in Burjuman offices, you need an appointment for that also and that takes a further 7 - 14 days. Unfortunately the whole process is all a bit time consuming and inconvenient IMHO but no other choice ;)

I don't think either of the owners were there it was midweek, Tuesday from memory so may be a day off for them. I am happy to pay 700- 800dhs for foils, cut and blow dry but honestly just under 900 without a trim, add a trim in and I would have been looking at 1100+ and i get my hair done every 5 weeks so I can not really justify...and of course my husband thinks I pay around 400 :\:

Must have been a bad day then, i found the girl washing my hair to be quite surly and I would have been at the basin for a total of about 4 minutes for a rough pull off of the foils and routine wash and condition whilst she chatted to her colleague in tagalog. As I said the color was fine and I was not at all unhappy with the stylist but when paying top of the range prices I don't think it is wrong to expect all aspects of the service to be above average, which quite frankly was not my experience at all.

For a special occasion you can not beat Refelts, it is really amazing, IMHO Rhodes twenty 10 is average, Rhodes Mezzanine is much better. I am really into Hakksan lately, the food is fabulous.

The stylists at Salon Ink are quite good, although it is incredibly expensive, almost 900dhs for a full head of foils for shoulder length hair and blowdry, glad I didn't have a haircut as well! TBH I felt a bit ripped off they certainly don't offer any added extras or niceties for this price, not even a decent hair wash or quick head massage when washing your hair and they don't use Kerastase products. The end result was fine but I won't go back at that price.

I love the holier than thou attitude of some...."my kids only ever eat home cooked, non processed, organic, pasture raised, free range blah blah blah". I don't know what would ever happen to them if they so much as glanced at a happy meal.

Love Jamie's Italian, especially good for a casual lunch or dinner, food is of really good quality and service is efficient and pleasant. Personally I don't think the prices are high at all, around 80 -90 Dhs for a main course of lovely prawn linguine made with handmade pasta, much better value than the expensive and highly processed garbage served up at those awful American chains that are popping up all over the place!!

[b'>simpleasabc replied : I thought those were battery farmed, which I can't say I'm too keen on.. [/b'> I don't think you can fairly assume that any produce that is not labelled 'free range' is battery farmed, labelling is becoming far too spurious these days and unless there is a fully regulated farmimg process I wouldn't trust half the organic or free range fresh produce available here. All I know is that the British chicken sold in Spinneys tastes far superior to the regular chicken offerings in supermarkets here and IMHO it is worth the extra money. i just checked the packaging and it says 'farm assured' whatever that means!

Spinney's are now stocking fresh British chicken, a bit more expensive around 35dhs for 3 chicken breasts and a full chicken 1.8 kg is about 70dhs, much tastier than the regular stuff they sell. Agree about the chippy in Park and shop, both the fish and the chips are really good, best in Dubai IMHO and the guy who runs it is really friendly also.

From the Gulf news last week: [i'>Ramadan is expected to begin on July 21 this year, reported the UAE's state news agency WAM. The Islamic Crescent Observation Project said they expect the Islamic holy month to start two days after the sighting of the crescent moon, anticipated on the night of July 19. In May, a UAE astronomer also forecast the month to start on July 21, saying that Eid Al Fitr will fall on August 19. Ibrahim Al Jarwan, astronomy researcher and supervisor of Sharjah Planetarium, said at the time that the birth of the crescent moon will be on Thursday, July 19, at 8.24am (UAE time), and the sunset will be at 5.09pm, while the moon will set two minutes after sunset. "The crescent moon of Shawwal 1433 will born on Friday August 17 at 5.54pm local time, and the sunset will be at 6.49pm same day," he added in comments published by WAM.

Sorry for your dilemma Go Girl. One of my favorite sayings is "you can only be responsible for your own behaviour" you can't control the way others act or feel. She is an elderly lady and possibly does not have much longer on this earth so my advice would be to go along with her for a bit longer but really limit your contact, take her cigarettes and make a few brief visits but do your own thing. Best wishes

Anyone who thinks EK are not up to scratch should check out the apalling service, grumpy crew and crappy aircraft on US carriers such as United and Delta. Ek is a dream compared to them. Another massive reason for Emirates loyalty is Skywards, IMO the best program I have seen from any airline.

In reply to OP, when calculating the fare a number of factors are taken into account such as load, aircraft and revenue, flights for same destinations on the same dates can therefore vary wildly. Least popular timings ie: 02.00am are often the cheapest as people would choose friendlier timings, A380 to LHR is usually the most expensive option in my experience. Gatwick is often significantly cheaper is that works for you.

Unfortunately at the end of the day, her credit rating in the UAE will always be affected as she has defaulted on a loan, she would be mad to even think of applying for any sort of credit as this issue will always reappear. In relation to the bank chasing their interest, they are probably just trying it on as she is obviously now in a better position to pay back more of what she originally owed regardless of the court decision. As mushypeas suggested she needs to lie low and keep any dealings with banks to a minimum.

I have also searched high and low for a trundle mattress, a lot of places will make to size like C4 but the difficulty is the height. The only place that would make one at the correct dimensions is Intercoil but only in foam it was about 400dhs, problem is that was absolutely the most uncomfortable thing, you might as well sleep on the tiles! So I succumbed and bought the Pottery Barn kids one, it is so comfy.

Unfortunately long waits for US visas are par for the course, especially for some nationalities which they do extra security screening for. I have never managed to actually speak to a person at the US consulate over the phone, it seems they go out of their way to avoid phone contact. would be very interested to know if anyone has found a way to speed up the process, in my dealings with them over many years I have had zero success, resulting in many cancelled business trips for our company.

Definitely Kitchen Aid,especially if you have room for it on your counter top. I love mine and it looks brilliant. Although I do have lots of the attachments which have never come out of their box, so I probably wouldn't reccommend getting those unless you are a major cook or baker. It seems that all the top cefs useKitchenAid as it is featured on every cooking programme, never seen a Kenwood...maybe it's just super marketing.

Was recently in Australia and totally shocked of how expensive EVERYTHING is, groceries, petrol, car parking, eating out etc, even a bottle of Mt Franklin still water was $3.50 at a gas station! Depends on your circumstances but personally I would not consider anything under $120,000 per annum plus super. Do not forget to factor in the enormous taxation, you would most likely be looking at 48c in the dollar. Are you being offered an expat package?

Visited Aquaventure recently and as the kids were playing in the childrens area, sirens started to go off and the lifeguards were blowing their whistles ordering everyone off the slides and out of the area, I was beginning to think there was a bomb scare and then we noticed it...a big poo floating in the water! The lifeguards scooped it out, sprinkled in some sort of powder and closed it down for about 20 minutes. The thought of going back in to the area was too much for us so we headed off to one of the other pools. Grosses me out to think of how often public pools must be pooped and peed in!:\:

Hi JulesLC, I was at Pottery Barn Kids on the weekend and spoke to the manager about the bulbs as I am looking for a replacement too, she said they are planning on bringing them in from the US in the future as they know it is an issue. You can get a 7 watt at ACE that fits in but be careful if you do get this one as it does get hot, I wouldn't leave it on for too long..
