NewbieD, we are at the same school. Agree that masterchef doesnt provide best quality, but there were certain dishes my children enjoyed so we chose those on an ad hoc basis, as a nice break from our packed lunch optins. However most of the time at least one of them did not have time to eat all of it, let alone half! So personally am not convinced they will have time to eat 3 courses, and nor do I necessarily want to commit to every day, i liked the option of selecting!

Totally having the same thoughts. Been here since 2002, both dh and i work, but with mortgage and school fees, and the constant daily battle dubai life now seems to be, we would love to escape. But where to is the big Q!

Hi. Actually they are affected by different monsoons, with phiket being wet in august and koh samui being dryer (its high season there). I have been to both in august. - phuket was def wetter with some days mainly rainy, but it was warm and it certainly didnt affect my holiday too much. We were in koh samui last year and it was perfect - rain every day in terms of short very strong downpours, but the rest of the time gorgeous. Depends what you want to do really!

Hi, i have just had word from Kings' that these changes do not impact them, for local schools only. Their admissions policy remains unchanged with full KHDA approval. This would back up the position of Horizon mentioned earlier in the thread

Is this just for new admissins or does it affect existing years? Ie will they want to reshuffle all around?

Not sure about pizza, but the sweet connection has a good selection of gluten free stuff. I have found some excellent bread though - its part baked, sold in spinneys and dubai herbal centre. Brand is shar (sp?!) yellow packaging. They do all sorts of loaves/rolls, you just finish them off in the oven. Was impressed!

It's out of their hands really, the initial calendar was approved. KHDA have come back asking for changes to an already approved calendar. Not a lot they can do! I would not move any flights, just write to the head explaining the reason for any absence.

Hi, yes police and emaar have both been involved. Emaar keep saying they are increasing security, yet this keeps happening!

Unfortunately another house was broken into last night in saheel 1, backing on to the same small park i mentioned in my previous post (nr st 1). Again, family was upstairs sleeping and intruders forced open the family room door. I cannot believe that this is still happening. Emaar said they had stepped up patrols. Clearly not in the night when its needed! I have written again to emaar with some suggestions. I would like to see cctv, some sort of proper monitoring of who goes in and out, proper residents ids (this would also help the problem of non AR residents using our facilities as well). Does anyone know amyone in the press that could do a feature on this? I'm sure some negative press might get them moving!

We are on saheel st near st 1 and the house opposite us that backs on to a small park was broken into at noght. I spoke with emaar security who said they think it was an inside job ie maid or gardener related. I'm not convinced. I think we all need to make a bit of noise on this, write to [email protected]. Personally i think the security is pretty poor, anyone can drive in. I wonder if when they finish fixing the fence properly that will help, but i think we are sufffering as we are the most accessible community. It makes me very nervous to be honest. We are fixing additional locks, and DH plans on installing security lights as well.

Thanks ladies. Yes at the time they were ok with this, but warned us the rules would be changing. Hsbc is who are current mortgage is with, and am sick of paying their rates, especially as they offer new mortgages at much more competitive rates! Despite asking and writing to them, no luck. So looking at other options but not many banks can get their head around this one! Grrrr

Hi, yes he is full time with us, we sponsor him but he lives out. He has his own car but uses ours for the school runs. Drivers are anything from 3500, depending on nationality it seems. So we use him for all sorts of odd jobs for example, then also for events where we dont want to rely on taxis - llike eric tomorrow night!!

Hi, we went in august. Avoid the east coast at that time of year. Make sure your hotel heats their pool!! Its lovely weather for doing things, but gets cool from about 3.30/4. Perfect escape from here tho!! (We also went with 2 young boys who spent their days zooking around on their bikes!!!)

Hi, the only real solution we found was to hire a driver. My 2 finish at different times except thursday, so with a driver we can manage that. Also he can take them to after school activities or play dates with our helper if needed. Mine are also in the same year group as you and i also work full time. There are also odd mornings that either DH or i can't do drop off due to work commitments so he is available then too. Plus you can then use him for odd jobs, washing cars etc....

Nightmare!! All last min as well! I work in difc and will be out for meetings - dont think i will be able to get back in at 2! And thurs, seems like its the 611 and hessa st, gulf news i dont think is correct. Best map seems to be in emirates 24/7. Ludicrous the whole thing, especially if schools have to close

Hi, it's pretty straightforward - a supervised play session where you can stay in the room as well (although if your LO is happy you can step out). There are plenty of different activities set up and the assessors will just mingle around to interact with the children. All the teachers are lovely and really try to make the children feel at ease. Good luck Ps i think we know each other (difc!) so feel free to give me a shout offline if you want more info!!

The russian - i am in exactly the same position! I posted a similar thread on this yesterday. I also spoke to our HR, was told we have to follow central bank rules. Its so frustrating as does not apply to us - we are in DIFC amd the stock market is closed on sunday anyway!! And kids are home from school obviously....

Hi - for the second time now, we are missing out on a public holiday. I work for a UAE bank (though not in a branch) and the company follows Central Bank guidelines. So for the second time, everyone in a branch will benefit from the public hol declared for Sat, and all the rest of the employees will not get a holiday at all. Is there anything we can do about it? We are a DIFC subsidiary as well. Ministry of labour? The last time this happened, i heard the central bank actually gave itself the sunday off anyway! Grrrr. Am so fed up, esp as kids will be off school and they spend enough time with the maid anyway!

Snow white was excellent i thought. Agree that DUCTAC ticketing is a real pain, but i also agree with the no under 3 policy - these shows are not appropriate for under 3s!!! My 5yr old was scared at one point, so i dont think it's a bad policy. You are better off waiting for the right time to see these things

The central bank declared sat and sunday as closed, so in theory all banks should be open today. DIFC is different as it is a government entity. Some compa ies in the DIFC follow their holidays, including international banks. Uae banks with subsidiaries in the DIFC will be open today.
