How about Sri Lanka combined with a few days in the Maldives at the end for R&R? One thing I would say now that I have 2 small ones is make the most of it, holidays will be a little different once you have a baby!!! For our pre No1 baby hols we went to the Seychelles, and for pre No 2, Sri Lanka (with No1, so not quite as relaxing!!!) Enjoy and good luck with all of it!

FullyMine, I hope your DS and you are feeling much better. Poor you, not a great start to nursery life, the first time they get really sick is the worst, but you will learn to read the signs and the symptoms as time goes on, so you can deal with it quickly. Does Dr Rita have a mobile? We see Dr Khan at Cooper Health Clinic, he is always contactable on his mobile which is such a help, as invariably these things come up on a Friday night!! Good luck, and hope you are fighting fit again

I bought the Baby Jogger City Mini Double - both forward facing, very easy to fold and fits in all doorways....didnt use it for that long as elder DS prefers to walk, but for a short time it was invaluable, particularly when travelling!

Sydney - my 2 Ds go to Blossom Village - there are 2 branches of Blossom, the original one opp Star school, and the newer one called Blossom Village nr Spinneys in Umm Suqueim. very flexible hours, good food, interesting programme, follows the British system..... Bralarke - can I ask where you're based please? Once our elder DS starts school, we will face a challenge as i work full time...thanks

Daisydog - my DSs are at blossom village, its the newer larger branch. as twokids said, make sure you are happy with the baby facilities but also with the older classes as well, they grow up very fast! BV is a big villa, lovely outdoor areas, food provided, dark sleep room, french and arabic, and most importantly for working mums, flexibility in hours and all year programmes DS1 was at Hummingbird in between having DS2 as I work in DIFC - I thought it was great for babies ie non walkers, but found it to be more and more limiting as he grew older (also would have needed a second mortgage to send 2 there!!!!) good luck - there was another thread on this sort of thing recently posted by FullyMine, think it is now in the schools section...

i believe that one of the things you have to consider is that you will then need to pay your maid the min UK wage, which is a lot more than the min salary requirement here! also i think the uk authorities only let you bring a maid who has been with you a certain time, and also who is over a certain age. I don t know the full details, but some friends werent able to take their maid with them as she was deemed to be too young!

TwoKids - the original Blossom is the one SQ has her LO in, opp Star, and Blossom village is the newer one near Spinneys in Umm suq. Both are good, same owner and management, approach etc....just a matter of personal pref re location and set up i guess....also i think the original blossom is pretty full up in terms of places... let us know what you think!!

DS1 will be going up to pre school also as he only turns 3 in sep, so misses official school this year...how old is your DD? hope you like it, and good luck with the job search!! i've just been through it all - started working again at the beginning of june!!

I got mine done at 14, i wanted them done sooner but my mother said i had to wait until i was old enough to properly take care of them as well...i was so happy once i got them done! i would wait if i were you, your DD will have plenty of time in her life for all that!!

Hi again fully mine - we speak English and Arabic at home, and Blossom village offer French and Arabic lessons as part of the curric - DS came home the other day singing Frere Jacques word perfect!! i was so impressed.... you havent mentioned that you are going to look at blossom - have you already looked and not liked? i have gone through exactly the same process as you, and in the end Blossom ticked most boxes. Your DS would be in the same class as my DS2, the teacher there is a lovely English girl called Emma, the kids love her and she has them all super organised which is pretty impressive for that age group! She is very responsive to your routine as well and will do her best to try to stick to it. BTW i also had DS1 at Hummingbird, good facility for babies but not for when they get older IMHO, all indoors and only outdoor exposure is walks around the DIFC! no food provided either. re L&P, there was definitely a lot of commotion at the time, who knows... anyway good luck, hope you make the right decision!

Our 2 DS go to Blossom village, nr Spinneys in Umm Suq. We're in AR, so its a bit of a detour (I work in DIFC) but personally find it much better than the one Suzy duzy mentioned - they did one term there and whilst they were happy, they have no children that stay all day, and no food provided. I also looked at Kelly C nursery and found the sleeping arrangements awful ie they can just have a nap on some cushions!! BV have a proper sleep room (my youngest DS is nearly 15 mths, still sleeps am and lunch) and they provide a full menu, which they both seem to eat with gusto, older DS who is nearly 3 tells me he loves the food. Lovely big villa, outside play, and a decent No of children that do full days/full year (its a balance i feel - you dont want too many or too many activities for the pm, or they'll end up overstimulated, but equally you dont want them to be all alone!) IT's British Early Years curriculum, and they have options from 7.30am - 6pm. At the moment they are in Summer camp mode as are all the nurseries, but all the main staff are there - talk to Debbie or Nadia. Good luck, as a working mum i know what a tough decision all this is....

Thank you ladies. I explained to him very clearly what would happen ie gate would close last night as i was putting him to bed and miraculously he stayed asleep till 6am this morning! Lots of praise today, and fingers crossed it lasts.... BTW, he does have a gro clock, set to turn to sunshine at 6am, completely understands the concept, just doesnt follow it!

KT - be careful, there was an earlier thread re ergos and this chinese lady, it seems they are fake and the strap may not hold as it should. For the OP, baby bjorns are great, but the ergo will last you much longer, have had both and now love the ergo as they are bigger. Babysouk sells them as does a shop in ibn apparently, you can also order from their website

Hey claire08! Its not full time, they finish at 12.30 i think, when i looked round i think they had a 3 and 5 morning option its part of the raffles group so the raffles schools, not sure if that would guarantee your dd a place in one of their schools or not.... Hope all well :)

Belen, i just wanted to wish you luck, what a tough time you must have had, and i hope that your DS continues to go from strength to strength. Emirates home nursing has a good reputation, and lemondrops i'm sure will help you as she always has very supportive things to say. There are a number of ladies on here who have also had similar experiences who i'm sure will also help, wish you all the best for your son's return home!

I went to see louise at colour me beautiful, great session and has made life a lot easier! I had it done in my early 20s before starting work, and just had it redone now that i'm 40 and back to work after 2 kids. Highly recommend it as it just focuses your mind as to what to buy, and what suits you. She has a page on FB, check it out....

Def second the Ergo, DH and i both have one (i have orig, he has performance) and its great - can easily switch between our 1 yr old and nearly 3 yr old without having to alter the settings at all. Great investment, use it especially when travelling at the airport etc....

Dont stay in colombo itself as its a fair journey to the airport what with the traffic etc, try red dot tours, they have lots of options. Enjoy

Tonix - i had about 2 hours sleep between this ds and the younger one, and have work tomorrow and a nasty cold, so def a bit short on patience, i am only taking offence to people like yourself who dont actually add anything to the conversation! All the other points of view are all great points to consider and help me to work out the best strategy that will suit my DS, what works for one doesnt necessarily work for others. If i could delete this thread i would now, i just dont see why people have to post if they're not actually helping with the original question!

Livelytrish - another helpful poster! Actually if you knew anything about it, room on a broom is a well known and much enjoyed children's book, and this was a musical performance of the story at the theatre. DS loves the story and i never imagined this reaction. Mareike, thanks for the good ideas

Wow, that's so helpful BM, I'm overwhelmed! Now i know why people don't bother with this board anymore! I must remember to say something equally helpful next time you have a problem! To him dragons are very real, and at his age i'm not sure he understands the concept of real and make believe.... Green-ish - thanks for your suggestion, that might help. He was literally white and pasty with fear last night, very upsetting to see, and even at lunch today when he went for his nap he was scared.... going to be a good day at work tomorrow if we have a repeat of last night!

I think it is, but i think she can also go to al badaa'e clinic which is the one nr the shangri la hotel and wellington - she will need to go early as they only accept till 11 - its a much nicer clinic than satwa! Although now satwa is only accepting females, families and urgent cases, so that should improve....

Hi snugs, thanks again for your help. Yes the quoted babysitting rates are a bit high!!! Trying to negociate on a villa but not getting particularly far with it, i think they seem to be fairly busy, or they want to see nearer the time if they get bookigns - we only need a small villa as its just us, dh and i plus our 2 small DSs.... On another note, did you find that you felt secure in a villa setting? The one we are looking at doesnt have security...is it an issue over there? Thanks again!

Piggle/ashes, this is exactly what we want to do as well, buiild over the garage. I was told by emaar no as there is to be no living accomodation less that 2 or 5 mts from the road (sorry forget whether it was 2 or 5), would love to hear if anyone has any luck as this is a perfect ensuite 4th bedroom for a 3 bed saheel!
