We took our iMac to ProSource when we were having issues with it. They are an Apple authorized service provider. They're located on just off SZR, on the slip road very near to Safestway.

Lady Lavender, just to clarify, it's the 3 bedroom & 4 bedroom villas that will be coming available soon. They were leased and the company will not be renewing the leases. As far as I know, it's villas only.

Layan is a great community, apart from the excessive number of speed bumps on their access road and the fact that there is only one access in & out from 611 into both Layan & Al Waha. There is a small Choithrams, a nail/hair salon, a gym, and a cafe (part of Choithrams). There will be many empty villas in Layan as a company is moving all of their employees to another compound in the next few months.

Hi Ally72, The school search can be quite daunting, especially when you haven't had a chance to see them yet. Do you know what area of Dubai you'll be living in yet? That could potentially play a big role in what school. They do have buses here, but because the drivers we've seen don't seem to be nearly as cautious as what we'd like, we will not put our children on a school bus here. So, location is definitely something to really think about if you will be doing the school run yourself. Our daughter has been at Bradenton Prep for the last 2 years and we are very happy with the school. All of her teachers have been amazing, especially her grade 3 teacher, he has probably been the best teacher she's ever had. The school to us is very welcoming and seemingly well-run and most importantly, our daughter is very happy there and enjoys going to school. There is a sewage treatment plant very close by and although we are not happy about it, we have only had a whiff of the smell a few times over the last 2 years and we are there twice a day. I know a previous poster mentioned the playground areas. There are separate buildings for the KG1 & KG2, and they have their own dedicated playground. I would recommend putting a list together of the schools you're interested in and scheduling tours at each. You will get a strong feeling from just doing that. Good luck!

Not sure about the timing or parking as we always end up spending longer than we plan to here. We usually park the car nearer home and use the Metro. We get off at Al Ghubaiba (or whatever it may be called now) and walk along towards Bastakia. Then depending on the time of day either wander round Bastikia and have something to eat, or cross on the Abra, do the Souqs and then come back and eat. I can totally recommend this place to while away your lunch time though. The food and drinks are fab. http://xvahotel.com/cafe/index.html edited by Geordie expat on 24/03/2015 This is great, thank you so much Geordie!! :)

Hi ladies, I have friends coming to town and I'd like to take them to the Bastakia area of Dubai, a trip on the creek and through the Gold and Spice Souqs. Do you think this is something that could be done in about 4 hours? I haven't been down there in years myself and would love some idea on where would be a good place to park, or what order I can find things? Also, if you have any recommendations for a more traditional place to eat, that would be wonderful.

I'm wondering if anyone has any information on whether or not children with disabilities have legal rights as far as not being excluded in school activities? And that schools need to make reasonable modifications & accommodations for those students to have an opportunity to perform at a level of their peers? It would be similar to having a 504 plan in the US. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Hi ladies, I have heard that GEMS Royal Dubai has a wonderful food policy, which is very accommodating to children who have health concerns. I would love to get a copy of their policy. I've looked online at their school handbook but couldn't find anything on it. If anyone who has children there would be so kind to send it to me, I would be very grateful. My email address is kaba underscore dubai at hotmail dot com Without going into too much detail, I have a child with health concerns who will be attending another GEMS school, one which has no such policy in place at the moment. Thank you so much in advance!

As far as INSANITY, there are a few ladies on the forum doing this if I am not mistaken. You could search "insanity" in recent threads. Several of my friends have done this program. Results varied. Why? My friends that were committed got great results. The ones that skipped days or ate junk did not get good results. Those same people also claimed it "didn't work." No, they didn't do the work! Why don't you just dive in and give it your best? Unless you have some health conditions that prohibit you, nothing bad could come from doing it. Well said Beebers! You really have to commit to the program and watch what you eat, keep track, hold yourself accountable and count calories! I used a calorie counting app on my phone, it kept track of my calories, my weight, what I was eating and how much I was exercising. I had great results doing Insanity, but have a friend who put in the work but did not keep close track of what she was eating, and she only lost 5lbs.

I've used the little shop that JHM suggested. It's in the same little mall as the big Tim Horton's on Beach road. I had them embroider a case for my child's Epi-pens. Being that the case was small and had a zipper and velcro I would have thought it would be fairly difficult but they did a great job on both sides and it only cost me 15 dhs (13 characters) and was ready in 20 mins.

Congratulations prideofmoon! I absolutely loved the white mesh baby born carrier I had. It was so simple (once you did it a few times) and I always felt that baby DS was secure. I tried a few of the wrap-type carriers and just wasn't comfortable with them. I guess it's all about your individual preference. :) I would try a few different brands and styles on and see what suits you best.

Hi All, I'm kind of getting the impression I need to visit the schools when we arrive. My eldest is only 6 so I figure if she misses a few days of school whilst we make a decision it's not going to prevent her becoming a Doctor (or similar) if that's what she wishes!! I'll draw up a short list and visit when we arrive I think. I've heard parking/driving for schools runs are a nightmare and as we currently walk to school this will be a big consideration for us so thanks for the advice Kaba - it would bother me too!# I've seen photos of the Villas and they are extremely close but I've also heard renting can be hard work in terms of landlords and expensive so my husband isn't keen at all. Everything is hard from afar however I haven't got time to visit before we move, unfortunately. Can't face bringing the kids alone and no one will want them all for a few days either. Guess we'll just jump in when we arrive and get on with it! Ha ha. If I can give you any advice it would be to stick with company housing, once you opt out there is NO WAY of ever getting back in.Had friends who opted out and always regretted their decision. Mumto3darlings, you have a great attitude and I think it's fantastic that you're waiting until you get here to tour the schools. You'll have such a better feeling for all of them when you step foot on campus. I completely agree with Nomad. We have also had friends who opted out of company housing, there is no way back in and they have moved almost every year due to rent increases and regretted it.

Hi, just to add my 2 cents about your options. I would be careful about choosing GEMS Wellington DSO. I'm not exactly sure of the distance from the Meydan villas but families in my community are only about a 20 min drive from there, yet because of how large the school is and how few parking spaces there are, everyone leaves nearly an hour before school starts just to find a parking space. I have heard pickup is the same nightmare. I'm sure some people aren't too bothered by that situation but I would not be one of them.

There are a few places in Dragonmart you can buy them as well. A couple are on the main aisle and they have different sizes of collapsible cones. We put them out when our kids are outside, they are great to get the neighborhood speeders to slow down. ;)

Hi, I haven't seen Sun Butter but the big Spinney's in Motor City as Wow Butter. It's the same concept as an alternative to peanut butter except that's made entirely from soy. I tried it the first time the other day and was really impressed, it tastes just like peanut butter to me. It's on the back wall in Spinney's where close to the pork section. Otherwise, you could try calling the Organic Cafe to see if it's something they carry. HTH

Sorry, I don't have any suggestions for you but I will advise you to steer clear of the Motor City area. I'd rather not name the salon because of my awful experience but I will say the makeup was supposed to be for a formal event and I ended up looking like a drag queen, even after bringing in multiple photos of what kind of look I was going for (nothing crazy, just a fairly conservative smokey eye). It was so awful I had to scrub it off my face before I could even face speaking to the manager.

Dr Mahmoud Baghat is probably the best ENT Dr in Dubai - often recommended by peadiatricians. I *think* he operates at Belhoul hospital and his clinic - medical international specialist center - is on Al Wasl road. I would also recommend Dr. Baghat. He operated on my DD when she was 5yrs old. Wonderful doctor and excellent with children.

Not to scare you but I had an awful experience at City Hospital 3 years ago. I had an emergency C-section and had to beg the nurse to give me something for the pain. She was annoyed with me and finally gave me one injection of morphine in my leg about 2 hours after my LO's birth. It was the only narcotic pain relief I received. It was the worst experience I've ever had as far as feeling helpless and in so much pain. We are not having anymore children but if we were I would go to my home country for the birth after that.

Hello Kaba, thank you so much for your advise I will check her as soon as possible I didn't get what you meant with your experience at city hospital, does dr.Rosalie give birth also there? Hi Zeki, Yes, she delivers at City Hospital. I'm not sure if that's the only hospital she delivers at though. You see her for all of your check ups in her clinic (a stones throw from the hospital) and when it comes time for delivery, she will meet you at City. She is paid separately from City as well.
