Hi mnadir, I had my baby at City Hospital and it was such a bad experience I would NEVER go there again. The labor floor nurses were great, as was my doctor who has an office elsewhere but delivers there. The pain management was the reason I will never go back. Absolutely miserable experience, including how I never felt like I was getting all the information about my baby. Good luck to you and I hope wherever you go, you have a great experience.

Hello! Need to get a social security number for my newborn, so I can then get a US passport for him. Anyone been through this process and know what to do? You can do all the applications at the consulate. But you don't need to get a SSN in order to get a passport? In fact, it is the other way around. [u'>First you apply for the passport - which is a fairly straight forward process and then you can apply for the SSN[/u'>. This is correct, you will see on their website that what you need to apply for the SSN is: Application for SS card Parents passports & copies [u'>Childs passport and one copy[/u'> Original Report of Birth Abroad or Birth Certificate & a copy So you do need the passport first but you are not required to apply for a SSN. It's your choice. We just did this last week, it's very easy. The Consulate is wonderful, we had three different things to do and were still done and on our way in 10 mins. Good luck! edited by Kaba on 13/11/2012

Hi Tara, Visit the US Consulates website, it's very helpful. Remember to always make sure you have all the documents required before traveling to the Consultate, and you must have made an appointment using their online system or they will not allow you in. Any other other recommendations for good landscaping companies? I contacted both companies below, one was very quick to respond but the quote was nearly double our budget and the other company seems unorganized as they still haven't come up with a quote after 3 weeks. Really wanted to get going on something ASAP but don't want to make the same mistake we did the first time around. Thanks for anymore suggestions you can provide. edited by Kaba on 12/11/2012

I use a simple solution of diluted white vinegar and spray and clean my counter tops with it... keeps all the bugs away.... in my garden i use a diluted dishwashing liquid and spray the entire garden and door entrances to our house.... doing this for the last 2 years now and no ant or any other pest complaints... These are safe methods if you have kids or pets in the home. How much do you dilute the white vinegar ecochic? We have had these tiny brown/sand colored ants for months but I am absolutely petrified to call a pest control agency in fear that they don't really know what they're doing. Thanks

Our family loves Pedipeds. The only place I know to get them here are Pitter Patter at Dubai Mall (they will properly measure your childs feet) Our daughter grew up in these shoes (now 6, she's still wearing them). She had wide feet when she was little and these were one of the few brands that fit her. Our youngest also also gone through a few pairs now as well. You can checkout the manufacturers website for more details: www.pediped.com edited by Kaba on 06/11/2012

Hi Samie, Yes, I use this twice a day on my DS. We moisturize in the morning and just before bed, although when he was younger I was doing it more often. Lipobase may not work for everyone. I know that I've tried other lotions that people have sworn worked for their children, but Lipobase is what worked the best for us. I still use the hydrocortisone (Cutivate) for any flare up areas and then use the Lipobase for the rest of his body. Between that, the fragrant free detergent, and the baths (which I explained on your other thread), his excema has completely cleared up. Good luck to you, I hope you find something that works.

A friend of mine bought a metal one in Dragonmart last year. It's the A frame with two swings. I'm not sure where exactly or the cost though.

Hi Samie, here's what I do for our youngest (1yr old) who used to have severe excema. Washing his clothes, sheets, and blankets in detergent that has no frangance added. We use Purex Baby (white bottle with a pink cap). To get flare ups under control we do use Hydrocortisone cream. His pediatrician said using this when he has flare ups is necessary (I was reluctant at first as well). When I bathe him I do not put anything in the bath with him. On occasion we buy Aveeno Oatmeal Bath from the US and add it but it's not available here so we use it sparingly. I've also heard that just regular oatmeal will do the trick but I haven't had to try that yet. The bath is lukewarm and the only thing I use on him is baby shampoo and only for his hair. The last 5 minutes of the bath I pour in Bortelli Olive Oil. The doctor explained that the bath will open up his pores and adding the olive oil at the end will seal the moisture in his skin. As soon as he is out of the bath, we pat dry and use Lipobase all over his body. If he has any rough patches or flare ups we use the hydrocortisone cream on those areas first. We moisturize his skin every day in the morning and just before bedtime. Since getting his advice from his pediatrician, his excema has completely cleared up, only having flare-ups now and again. It's amazing, because when he first developed it at 4 months, it was so awful and red that it looked like he had gotten a terrible sunburn. Good luck!

They should have thrown her in jail for endangering the lives of those little girls. Disgusting behavior. That was never going to happen. Of course not. They will throw someone in jail for showing their middle finger but when it comes to lives being endangered on the roads not much is done. It's really sad.

You shouldn't have a problem from here. Are you stopping somewhere in the middle? I stopped in heathrow with baby jars with no issues either. As long as you have solids, you will be fine. I also had meds with me, just make sure theyre under 3 oz/100 ml each. Thanks for the info! No stopover, we're going direct. I wasn't sure about the baby food, if it's considered a liquid and also wasn't sure about the cooler pack since I would think that would be considered a liquid too?

Hi ladies, we're leaving soon (our first flight with our youngest) to the USA! Security is much tighter on flights to the US and I'm wondering if I'm going to have any problem taking the following for our DS (who also has food allergies so very important we can bring our own food for him): - Organix Glass jars of baby food - Ella's Kitchen baby food - Cooler bag & ice pack for cooked food (going to bring our own cooked beef, chicken, & veggies) - Baby & Infant Panadol Do you think I need a note from his pediatrician just stating what food allergies he has, in case I have an issue with security? Has anyone traveled to the USA lately with the above type items? TIA edited by Kaba on 14/09/2012

Hi, I know of two places although I don't know if they're available Fridays, sorry. The first one will bring a battery to you and install it: 050 341 7014. I don't know the name, just have listed in my phone as battery replacement. We've used them a few times and although the communication is sometimes a challenge, they've always brought a battery same day, usually within 2 hours of the call. The other one I have is Dial-A-Battery. I've seen their van around but never used them. Their number is 800247365. Good luck!

I'd also recommend Dr. Max Spicer at the Vet Hospital. We take our pets there for anything major or unknown. We tried the Polo Club Vet a couple of different times and not only did they give me the wrong information a major issue with my dogs (twice) but I felt the last vet I saw was more interested in talking about himself than really looking at my dog.

Agree with Appletiser, if you're unsure get a second opinion. My DD had her tonsils and adenoids removed over the summer after many repeating episodes of Tonsilitis. It made such a huge difference in her sleep immediately. I don't think I realized just how much she was snoring until she stopped. My older child was the same way. No regrets for either surgery, instead I'm so glad I had it done & that it was done when they were both young. I had mine (tonsils & adenoids) out at 20 and the recovery was a lot longer. Good luck with your decision.

Ok I might get flamed for saying this, but why so often here are people from western cultures told they should appreciate and accept and adhere to other cultures, but not vice versa? For e.g. if a man spits paan near my shoes and I should just smile and say "hey ho he's from a different culture". But why doesn't he have to respect my culture and not spit in the first place? Sorry that's really garbled, don't really know how to word it. What I mean is I don't see why those of us who were taught good manners should accept bad manners as cultural; why shouldn't the bad mannered people accept my culture and learn to say thanks? edited by GirlAnachronism on 27/08/2012 *like* I have to add what happened to my DD yesterday at Mini Monsters. A boy pushed my DD off a piece of equipment and when she got back on he spit in her face. She's five. The arrogance & rudeness is worse than I've experienced anywhere else. edited by Kaba on 27/08/2012

Please check with your Pediatrician before using anything. I looked up Thuja 6c on Web MD and it can be very dangerous. Just because it's natural doesn't mean it's safe. http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-1117-THUJA.aspx?activeIngredientId=1117&activeIngredientName=THUJA

Hi flydiver, can't really help with either of your questions (we have the dark wood TT) but just thought I'd share how we use it in our house. Our DS is 11 months and still in his Chicco high chair. I could move him to the Tripp Trapp but I don't know if I'd feel as though he were as secure at this point. Edited to add that we do not have the baby set, presumably that would help. We bought ours second hand and our 5yr old DD is using the TT at the dining room table until our DS is a little bit older. Our DD loves 'her' chair, it's a lot easier for her to move it by herself as our dining chairs are on the heavier side. She also sits at the perfect height at the table. Good luck with your decision! edited by Kaba on 22/08/2012

Thanks so much ladies! Is there a store in Dubai that sells the Angelcare monitor, or is it only available over the internet? Hi Tara, I've heard that BumbleBee in Dubai Mall has the AngelCare Monitor. I would also try calling Just Kidding as they may carry it as well. We bought ours from babyandme.net, poor customer service but it was delivered to us about a week after ordering it (they didn't answer the phone and never returned a call). I love the monitor and am so glad we have it. In my villa though, the reception isn't very good. LO's room is just around the corner upstairs and I have to either have the handheld unit on entryway table (next to the stairs), or on the stairs themselves. To answer the other question,I don't believe it can be used without the sensor pad but do a search online just to be sure. Even though my LO is 11 months it's still a nice piece of mind for me. And even with reception issues I'm still glad I bought this monitor. I'm actively seeking care for them for part of Sept & Oct. In return I'm willing to care for any size dogs as long as they are good with children and other pets.
